3: Dreams of an Abdication

He sat in the moonlight on the edge
of the building. This morning, on this spot, what felt like a lifetime ago, he
had watched a flaming comet fall to earth. For the
first time in a long time he had felt alive again� Now the emptiness had once
again descended on Silver�s soul.
I
could just fly away, he thought morosely. Step off the roof and keep going until my energy ran out. I�d never
have to see her again. Every time he thought of her, those three awful
words echoed in his mind�
Who
are you?
It was no use. Even the thought of
leaving brought him no comfort. Fate had played one last wicked prank on
Silver, and the sheer injustice of it all would haunt him no matter where he went.
Maybe I should just�
�Silver�?�
A soft voice behind him, and the
lingering heat of flames. He didn�t want to see her, didn�t want to talk to her.
For all intents and purposes, she was a stranger.
�Silver, I wanted to say� I�m
sorry. I�m so sorry that I�m not the Blaze that you knew��
He answered in a monotone. �It
doesn�t matter.�
A hand gently touched his shoulder.
�It does matter. This other Blaze was
your friend. You cared about her, and I�m just a reminder of what you�ve lost.
I know how much it must hurt��
Silver shut his eyes tight, pulling
away from her touch. �How could you know?! You don�t know what we went through,
how much we suffered! I didn�t just care about her, dammit!
I ��

�� You loved her.�
A lead weight seemed to fall into
Silver�s stomach. She knew. As if it
weren�t humiliating enough� Silver felt hot tears of shame welling up in his
eyes. Dammit, don�t cry, idiot! That�s all you need, is
for her to see you cry�

�� But when she spoke, her voice
was gentle and understanding. �I know I can never understand all that she was
to you, Silver. But maybe�� She paused, and there was a rustle of fabric. �Maybe
I can try��

�� Silver glanced up and turned
around, and his heart leapt. She stood there naked in the moonlight, her mantle
pooled around her feet, all sleek curves and womanly perfection. Blaze flushed
deeply and raised a delicate hand to the ring that bound her ponytail, casting
it aside and letting her hair fall around her like a lilac curtain. She smiled
at him, and Silver felt that he could have melted on the spot�
His mind had chosen the opportunity
to go blank again. This can�t be
happening. This has to be a dream. It has to be� And, completely unbidden,
another thought: No one could possibly be
this beautiful. Stammering, his mouth tried to form words� �Buh-Blaze� Wh-what are you doing?!�
Stupid, stupid, STUPID! he admonished himself.
But she merely chuckled and stepped
forward, wrapping her arms around the flustered hedgehog. �Oh, Silver� You�re
so na�ve��
That was when Silver surrendered.
Suddenly, it didn�t matter if this was �his� Blaze or not. It didn�t matter if
she didn�t remember him. All that mattered was that Blaze was here, offering
this wonderful gift� Silver would remember this moment for the rest of his
days, the way the moonlight glittered in her golden eyes as he leaned forward
to kiss her. And suddenly, incredibly, he felt the flames inside her, no longer
a wild and destructive force but a fire of passion and longing� Those flames
entered into him, guiding him as his lips met hers, telling him what to do.
Blaze gave a quiet, happy moan as
Silver�s hand ran through her fur, slipping down past her waist to touch her
most intimate spot. Her few lingering doubts dissipated into the night air;
Sonic and the Sol Emeralds and all the rest didn�t matter now. A warmth
completely different from that of her flames was spreading through her body,
growing in intensity as Silver�s finger slipped inside her. Only then did she
break the kiss, pressing herself tightly to him and urging him to go on.
Silver had never felt anything so soft. He could feel her squirming as he
probed her inner depths, and for a few brief seconds he was afraid he was
hurting her� but when she began to kiss his neck and shoulders, he knew it was
all right. The hedgehog could feel himself growing larger, and any remaining
concern about whether Blaze wanted this was erased when he felt her delicate
fingers wrap around him, stroking his flesh so gently�
After a few moments, the two looked
at each other in mutual understanding, and Blaze smiled dreamily as Silver laid
her down and positioned himself at her entrance. Gripping her hands tightly
with his own, he slowly pushed into her, and the catgirl
let out a great shuddering gasp. There was pain, yes, but it was drowned by utter
bliss as they joined together.
Silver felt her quivering, and he
reached down to gently grasp her breast as he kissed her once again. The
rumbling sound that he heard as he did so made him smile inwardly; he had never
heard Blaze purr before. No longer afraid of hurting her, he pushed deeper
inside her sex, eliciting another gasp from his lover.
�Aaaah�!� Blaze cried out so loudly that she knew someone might hear, but
she didn�t care. This was all she wanted now, to feel Silver within her. Her
fingers ruffled through his mane of white hair as he kept pushing, edging her
towards her first climax. She never imagined she could feel pleasure like this,
and as the two lovers came together, she realized that she never wanted anyone
else as much as she did Silver.
Waves of pleasure washed over them
both, as they felt the indescribable joy of two lovers reaching the pinnacle of
ecstasy together. They lay there for a while in each others� arms, unable to
speak. For the first time, neither one knew or cared what the future would
bring; all that mattered was this perfect moment of now. It felt like years passed on that rooftop before Silver
finally whispered to her.
�Thank you for saving me, Blaze��
The catgirl
smiled and whispered in return. �No, Silver. We saved each other��

�� Nothing else needed to be
said. Together Blaze and Silver slept, awaiting the
moment when they would reunite in dreams�
