Ch. 3

1,230 years later

“Riku! Damnit Riku are you up already?” came a loud screeching voice followed by the light click of high heels. “If you’re late again and I get a call from the principle you are dead! You hear me? DEAD”

Lying on his bed Riku groaned and rolled over snuggling into his blankets ignoring the waking world as long as he could. He had, had a weird dream last night, a dream about a fairy prince, a war and blood… so much blood.

“RIKU!”

“I’m up already you fucking hag!” Riku yelled before he rolled over and got out of bed grumbling as he made his way to his closet grabbing the first t shirt and pants that he could reach. He had picked a pair of black faded jeans with a tear in the knee, and a yellow black strapped tank top that was tight and showed off his well muscled chest and arms off. Slipping on a pair of black gloves Riku walked out of his room slamming the door.

As he walked down the stairs his cousin stood at the foot glaring up at him with her hands on her hips. “You better not get in trouble today. You’re really close to getting expelled Riku, please just for my own sanity go to school, behave and DON’T get in trouble. Please Riku” she finished her eyes pleading.

Riku looked at her his eyes half opened and his hair sticking up looking as if he were half asleep – which he was – . “I know already, now shut up and go already so I can eat my Cocoa Puffs in peace” he snapped as he slouched down the steps and dragged himself into the kitchen.

As he pulled out the bowl and milk for his cereal he heard his cousin let out a growling sigh before stomping out of her house. He grinned at his brown box with the bird on it when the screech of tires resounded around the house.

Sitting at the table Riku ate looking around the large house his eyes half mast and lazily staring at one object only to move onto another. “17 about to turn 18 in two days and she still treats me like I’m that stupid 6 year old orphan”

Scooping another spoonful into his mouth he sighed getting up, grabbing his backpack and a thin coat he kicked the front door open and jogged down his porch steps his breath making steam in the cold winter morning. He made his way down the street wrapping his thin coat around him trying to keep warm, he really needed to get a new coat but his cousin wouldn’t let him. Even though she seemed to care about him she always would use his social security money on something other then his own welfare. Grumbling about the cold Riku looked around and turned walking into the city park deciding to take a short cut.

As he walked down the familiar path he looked around at the trees covered in silver snow admiring how they glittered in the sunlight. However when he got to the center of the park one tree specifically caught his attention, it was his favorite tree in the whole park for a reason he couldn’t figure out. It was the tallest one in the whole city, but that’s not what made it so unusual. The whole tree was silver, a beautiful silver that made the tree the most unique in the whole world. Since Riku had moved to the city he had always found himself attracted to that one tree, something about it drew him to it.

Deciding to take a little detour Riku moved off of the path and walked to the tree smiling up at it. As his eyes traveled over it he looked at the one thing that he could never for the life of him figure out its purpose. A small door stood at the base of the tree, it had no knob and Riku could never get it to open no matter what he did. He at first had thought that someone had carved the door into the bark but that thought was forgotten when he had banged it and heard a hollow noise.

When he came to the door he lightly ran his fingers over the smooth wood the slight feeling of melancholy coming over him. Sighing slightly he sat down at the base and looked up admiring the cloudy sky letting the somewhat morbid looking day calm him.

Reaching into his jacket pocket Riku pulled out a small razor and held it in his fingers. His eyes were half lidded as he gazed at the sharp edge and lightly ran his thumb over it wincing a bit as it drew blood. He stared fascinated at the deep crimson blood that began to gather before he wiped the blood off on the tree and stuck his finger into his mouth sucking on it. The sleeve of his jacket was pulled back revealing his pale wrists, both of which had twin scars running down his arm reaching almost to his elbow. He had been so close then, so close to ending it all.

He hated his life with a passion. He had nothing worth living for, he had no family who loved him, no lover to warm his heart and bed, and he had nothing. Every time he tried to end it was as though something would always stop him, something would save him so he would go on living his miserable life.

Shaking his head Riku got up deciding to listen to his cousin for once and go to school. Shivering as another gust of cold wind blew he picked himself up and began the walk to hell…also known as school.

As Riku walked away he never saw the door of the silver tree glow.

He didn’t see the large flower that began to grow in front of it with an eerie blue light surrounding it.

Nor did he hear the soft voice whisper into the air “Our destinies are intertwined…no matter what…”

Riku growled the whole way home. Today had been one of the worst days of his entire life. Even though he had shown up on time and everything to class his teacher still picked on him provoking him to get mad. Riku had snapped at him once, just for him to back off, and the teacher tossed him out of class on claims that he had shown “aggressive” behavior and was seen as a disturbance to the other children’s learning experience. That was only the beginning; once he got into the principles office the old balding man didn’t even give him a chance to explain himself. Instead he presented Riku with a suspension slip with a smug look on his old face.

“Stupid school and it’s fucked up system” Riku growled once more, he wasn’t even going to try to go home. His cousin would beat his ass until he was black and blue.

Nope, today was defiantly not his day. To buy some time Riku walked off into the park heading strait to his tree. Growling louder Riku practically threw himself onto the ground and tore his backpack off. He rummaged through the bag until his hand closed over a pack of cigarettes, fingers trembling a bit he pulled one of the slim sticks out and placed it in-between his lips. Grabbing his lighter he flicked it until a flame sparked, cupping his hand over it a bit he lit his cigarette puffing it a bit before he inhaled deeply.

Riku turned his gaze to the setting sun feeling a sudden sense of melancholy wash over him. He had been wandering around all day and it was getting late but he didn’t ever want to have to go back home. Of all things that Riku hated the most, he hated that he felt so worthless; to him his life was like speck of dust on an old dresser. It’s annoying and you just brush it away forgetting about it and never remembering it again. Why? Because it was a blemish on the beautiful wood, it was a nuisance that you didn’t need and could careless if it vanished.

“C’mon beautiful why don’t you play with us for a little bit.”

“Ya we promise we’ll take it easy on you.”

Riku glanced up his ears twitching a bit as he head the men talking. He scoffed a bit and flicked the ash off of his cigarette. People were always getting hurt in the park, especially once the sun set. It was like the darkness drew them out or something. Sighing a bit he decided to just get up and leave before he somehow got dragged into it.

“Please let me go! I don’t want to play with you, let me go!”

This time Riku stopped midway as he stood. That voice had sounded so familiar, he felt the sudden urge to go and help that voice. Shaking his head Riku picked up his things and began walking off. “I’m not going to get into shit that isn’t my problem.” He grumbled.

“Aww the little girly boy doesn’t want to play, mwaha look at his out fit, isn’t it a little early for Halloween kid?”

“Hey looks like he has a little fight in him”

“Ha, ha look at him, he fights like a woman!”

“What! …I don’t fight like a woman!”

Once more Riku stopped the feeling getting stronger, almost over whelming. “You can never hurt me…you fight like a woman”

“Stupid Riku…I do not fight like a woman”

“I only meant you punched like one…I’m sorry”

Riku blinked and shook his head. Giving in to the nagging feeling in his stomach he turned on his heel and walked back over to the tree and peered over to the other side

/ Might as well go my good deed of the night / the silver haired boy thought to himself. He took in the scene and rolled his eyes.

The guys were just two kids from his school that he used to dance circles around when they challenged him to a fight. They had someone pinned to the back of the tree, who ever it was looked a bit on the petite side and they had the oddest outfit Riku had ever seen. He couldn’t really tell if it was a guy or a girl but based off of the voice he had heard he assumed it was a boy.

Riku sighed before he stepped away from his hiding spot and approached the other two. “You I never thought you two would be so desperate as to pick up a little boy to get some” Their captive looked over at Riku and he saw the blue eyes widen almost as if he were surprised. Riku cast him an odd look before he shrugged and looked at the two he was about to fuck up.

The first guy looked over and snarled. He had blonde hair that grew to his shoulders and was very unkempt, his liquid brown eyes glared daggers at the silver haired boy. “What the fuck do you want!”

The second guy also looked over, his light green eyes narrowing, his brushed a lock of carrot red hair from his face “Don’t tell me you’ve taken to becoming a night time hero…”

The silver haired boy grumbled to himself before he calmly took off his jacket tossing it to the floor. The two other guys snickered but Riku ignored him, he cracked his neck and knuckles before he gazed at them his look very cold “I’m not in the best of moods today so I’ll just kick your asses now and call it a night”

Again the other two simply laughed but before they could blink Riku was on them. He threw a punch at the blonde smashing his head into the tree. Their captive squeaked a bit and moved out of the way hiding on the other side of the tree. When he ran Riku distinctly heard the tinkling of bells, he didn’t have time to look over before a fist came into his vision.

Dodging easily Riku delivered a round house to the red head hitting him right on the side. He head a slight cracking and smirked the carrot haired boy fell to his knees gasping for air. He looked up at the blonde who was now coming at him with a large stick; a few nails were sticking out of it all rusting and old.

Scoffing Riku dropped and rolled before he looked around for something to use. He spotted a child’s wooden sword and picked it up, keeping his sea green eyes on his opponent he struck out hitting him right on the fingers causing the other to drop the weapon and fall down as well next to his friend clutching his hands.

“Get the fuck out of here before I decided to finish you off.” Riku snapped at them twirling his sword menacingly.

Shooting him dirty looks the both of them shakily rose to their feet. The blonde glared at him and spat “this isn’t over Riku, you better watch your back next time you go outside” With that they both turned and walked off a stream of curses flowing from both bloodied mouths.

“Stupid fuckers” Riku mumbled before he turned around and picked up his thin jacket putting it on. He shivered a bit as a gust of wind blew harshly. Grumbling the teen reached up and wiped his nose with his sleeve before he turned back to get his things and leave. His eyes scanned around for the kid he had pretty much saved, he spotted him huddled behind the tree peaking out shyly to him. “Hey you going to come out or are you going to hide behind that tree all night?”

The most bluest of blue eyes locked with his and blinked very slowly, the boy came out from behind the tree albeit timidly. Riku’s eyebrows shot up into his hair line, no wonder the kid had been cornered. He was dressed in a skimpy little loin cloth that showed of his supple legs and he wore no shirt to reveal a tooth necklace with a few other charms hanging off of him including anklets and bracelets with little bells, he had the strangest markings on his face along with a few eyebrow rings and quite a bit of earrings. But what really got Riku were the wings, they reminded him of a butterflies. His eyes roved over the other teen’s body studying the smooth slightly bronzed skin, a head of chocolate locks that hung in his eyes and just brushed his shoulders, plump lips, and long thick lashes framing the haunting eyes…eyes that he felt like he had seen before. He shook his head as an overwhelming sense of déjà vu washed over him. Clearing his throat Riku offered the small boy a smile

“Hey, you ok there?” Riku asked softly, inwardly he cringed at how nice he sounded.

The other boy blinked a bit and tilted his head, his eyebrows furrowed together before he reached out a hand to Riku. He walked over to the silver haired boy his hand still out stretched. Riku simply watched him his grip on the sword tightening, but the boy did nothing more then just touch Riku’s cheek. The silver haired teen shivered before he backed away a bit. The other boy smiled at Riku his eyes lighting up. “Riku…you’re back…it’s really you…”

Riku’s eye brow arched up and the look of confusion crossed his features “…do I know you or something?”

The brunette blinked and looked confused “Riku…don’t you remember me? It’s Sora…”

Blinking slightly Riku shook his head “…umm…I’m sorry but I don’t think I know you…believe me I would remember someone like you” Riku said a little nervously as he leaned over grabbing his bag , he looked up at the brunette and felt a stab of guilt at the sight of the totally crestfallen look that had settled over the others features. “Hey don’t get upset…”

Sora looked up at Riku a frown beginning to form “…what…what is the date?” he asked timidly

Riku glanced at his watch “January 28th”

“Umm what year though?” he asked shuffling his foot.

This time Riku gave the other teen an odd look “2005, why do you ask?”

Sora gasped softly before he looked at Riku “2005! I’ve been asleep for….oh my gods! How can this be?” The boy began to pace around a bit and it was then that Riku noticed that the wings on the boys back were somehow melded into his skin…if Riku didn’t know any better he would say…that they were real.

“Look if your having problems or what ever just go to one of the after school clubs and ask to see a councilor , hell go see your school counselor” Riku said shrugging , he looked up at the sky that was darkening more and more “Listen , Sora is it? I got to get home before I get in more trouble then I’ am already”

With that Riku turned around and began to walk off leaving the strange boy to his own thoughts. However Riku didn’t get far before a hand wrapped around his wrist, the silver haired teen grumbled and turned around “What?”

“Please don’t leave me...” Sora said softly “I don’t know what happened , if anything I should be dead right now…but…you’re back…please you can’t leave me…” he finished his voice pleading.

Riku frowned “What are you talking about? I don’t even know you, how the hell do you know about me?” Riku asked his voice sharp and cold. He didn’t like stalkers, and as cute…-Riku shook his head- as interesting as the boy seemed he wasn’t about to allow an acception. “Just go home or what ever ok?”

“But I don’t have a home “ came a quiet reply. The boy let Riku’s wrist go and turned away. Riku watched him pushing away the guilt he felt , he was about to turn back himself and leave but the other boy did something that left Riku’s jaw hitting the ground. Sora lightly fluttered his wings before he flew up slowly into the tree , he flew higher and higher until he was on the highest branch.

Riku’s eyes were wide as saucers his mouth gaping open. ‘ he flew…he fucking flew!’

Blue eyes gazed out at the still rising moon, the soft silver light causing his skin to glow an almost unearthly pale tone. His opal wings upon his back shimmered a beautiful bluish silver as they twitched here and there. Sora glanced over at Riku who had still not left “Didn’t you say you were leaving?”

The silver haired boy snapped out of his daze and struggled to keep his face stoic , he scuffed his shoe a bit “hey , how’d you do that?” he asked his voice a bit uncertain.

The young prince twisted around and looked down his brows furrowing together “Do what?”

“…fly…” Riku muttered the word sounding stupid and ignorant.

“I’m a fairy…and most fairies can fly…” Sora said slowly, he looked at the odd gaze Riku gave him and recognized it immediately. It was the look that Riku had given Sora so many years ago when they had met for the first time, back in the days when Riku was a warrior and Sora a bratty prince whose greatest worry had been avoiding getting grounded. “You really don’t remember me” he whispered softly. Once more Sora flapped his wings and slowly fluttered down towards Riku.

Riku stared up at Sora in awe, the boy, or fairy boy he should say, was so beautiful. The light of the moon shined behind him with the added backdrop of the glittering stars caused the fairy boy to look almost like an angel, a glorious angel of mercy.

Feet hovering over the ground Sora gazed into Riku’s eyes feeling his heart melt when the gorgeous aquamarine locked onto his eyes as well. A light smile tugged at Sora’s lips as an idea sprung into his head. “Since you don’t remember me….how about I make a deal with you then…”

Riku tried to tear his eyes from the others but he couldn’t , they were so…so deep , like liquid pools of azure. Swallowing and licking his lips a bit Riku spoke “…What sort of deal?”

“You helped me with those guys….so I want to repay you…” the still hovering boy answered. He flicked a lock of chocolate out of his eyes causing a few of the bells on his body to tinkle.

“You don’t have to let me fuck you or something I’m not into that sort of thing” Riku said finally tearing his eyes away and looking to the side as if he had seen something.

Sora’s eyebrows furrowed and a look of utter confusion settling over his features. “Fuck you?” he asked uncertainly.

“Oh you have got to be shitting me” Riku scoffed giving Sora a skeptical look “You know dancing in the sheets…” Riku paused when the other kept staring at him like he was an alien. “you know…sleeping together…having sex”

Sora’s eyes grew wide before a blush spread over his cheeks “oh! No , I don’t want to…not with you…I mean….you are nice….and I want…but” Sora stuttered his face flustered.

“Hey calm down there…” Riku said his voice laced with hidden amusement , he chuckled a bit “well since I know that’s not what you want….what is your deal?”

Twisting his hands nervously the brunette gathered his wits and tried to will his mind to get out of the gutter. After a moment he spoke again his voice sounding a bit more timid “…I was thinking that I could stay with you...and be a sort of servant until I feel that I have paid the debt that I owe you….”

Silver eyebrows shot up “a servant?” he asked before he shook his head “hey listen , I know your really glad that I helped you out n’ all but you don’t have to be my servant , I mean I really don’t have a lot…”

“But I’m no ordinary servant….I can do more then any other human servant can...” Sora said looking up a bit at Riku “Please…I don’t have anywhere else to go and I won’t be a bother…”

Riku shook his head “I’m sorry…I just can’t …I can take you to the local shelter here and you can find a way to manage there…I can’t take anyone in…not with the way I live” he said before he reached out and pulled Sora’s arm until the other teen’s feet touched the ground. Once more a gust of icy cold air blew by causing Riku to let the other go, the silver haired teen shivered and wrapped his thin coat around him. “Fucking cold…”

Sora watched as Riku shiver before with out thinking he reached out touching Riku’s chest, muttering a few words softly his hands began to glow a beautiful cerulean. Aqua eyes stared back huge as saucers as his thin coat grew thicker and warmer , the inside was covered in a soft downy fur and the outside looked good as new. Pulling his hands away Sora smiled and looked at Riku. “Please….just for a while…”

The silver haired teen could only blink stupidly as he tried to comprehend what had happened. Slowly his ran his hands over his new coat feeling the warm , soft material. He looked up at Sora before he sighed heavily “I….I can’t just leave you out here anyways….so…you can come along with me…but only for a week and then you have to go alright?” he said before he grabbed his things muttering.

A bright smile lighted Sora’s face as he watched Riku , he could hear something that sounded strangely like ‘ he really is a fucking fairy’ and ‘what the hell is he thinking walking around in a skimpy outfit like that.’ and ‘I’ve fucking lost my damn mind…or I’m dreaming..’
