Riku woke up with a start, cold sweat running down his body. His sea green eyes were wide as he recalled the horrible dream. Riku shook his head, trying to clear the sleep and the images that were lingering. He looked up at the sky roof that was above his bed. The sun was bright and the birds were chirping merrily, unaware that that day was the three year anniversary of Sora’s death and his 26th birthday. His sorrow-filled eyes looked at the calendar that Axel got him.
Three years. Three years of peace. Three years of torture. Three years of silence. Well almost silence. Of course Axel had to keep coming in and checking on him every month and that damned red-head was so annoying that he sometimes felt like bashing his head in.Riku had decided that since he couldn’t be with Sora he would become a recluse so he wouldn’t have to deal with the pain, and so far it had been working out well for him. Apart from the occasional delusion from being alone for to long, but, in some sick part of his mind he loved it when he thought he saw Sora.Today was the day exactly that he had last seen Sora alive and the day he had seen him die. He felt a pang in his heart as he recalled his dream and looked away from the calendar.Currently Riku was living in a run-down version of a mansion. It was part of his surprise for Sora. He had made Sora a beach house on the small island they used to play at, Destiny Island. The island was never inhabited, instead it served as a play place for the children of the Island’s of Fate where Riku and Sora grew up.Sora, Kairi and him used to play there all the time and day dream up big adventures for themselves. He knew Sora had loved it and he wanted him to be able to enjoy it whenever he wanted. He had had parties with their friends planned, long walks on the beach, nights filled with their cries, no one to call the cops because they being to loud. Now Riku would never admit to these wants, no one really knew how mushy he was, at least he didn’t think they knew, but now he had no chance to live out these secret dreams of his. A noise sounded from downstairs and Riku climbed out of his mangled bed and out into the hall way. In three years most of the front had fallen prey to decay and there was barely a front wall left. Ivy was growing on it as well. It was amazing what three years could do to a once magnificent building. Axel was walking through the entrance hall, kicking some weeds away from him, grumbling about stupid plants.“Marluxia would fucking love this place.”Riku watched as a frustrated Axel walked up the broken stairs, apparently not noticing his friend at the top. He mumbled to himself the whole way up.“Jeez, can’t even keep it up so that his friend can get in, lazy ass bum. Should just burn the fucking shit-hole down, maybe that’ll get some sense into him.”Riku raised an eyebrow. It wasn’t the first time his friend had made his thoughts vocal on his house, but he was surprised that he thought he was important enough to warrant him keeping his house up.When Axel reached the top he finally noticed Riku and put on a fake grin, hoping beyond hope that Riku hadn’t heard his quiet ranting. He looked his friend up and down. He was shirtless, deciding that he wanted to only wear his sweat pants. He was thin, but his muscles were defined, and even though he had lived on an island for three years he still had his creamy, pale skin. He looked healthy, yet something screamed that he was in endless suffering. The whole three years Axel had been visiting him Riku had expressed only three emotions; indifference, pain, or, not very often, slight amusement. Every other emotion he tried to convey always looked distorted and ended up looking like a different kind of suffering.“Yo Ri, you look as great as ever.”Riku scoffed at him and went back into the bedroom. He had about three pairs of clothes and most of them were loose-fitting. He grabbed a shirt and slipped it on. He then walked over to the bathroom that, amazingly enough, was working perfectly fine. He looked at himself in the mirror. His hair was slightly disheveled since he had woken up a few minutes ago. He combed it, wanting to look his best for when he went to see his beloved again. Then he washed his face and brushed his teeth. Axel was kind enough to bring him things he needed from the main island once every month and since Riku didn’t need a lot of groceries there wasn’t that much to get.Axel tapped his foot as he waited for Riku. He wasn’t having the best day and he was impatient. That morning his Superior, Riku’s dad, had told him he had to take Riku to him after he was done visiting the grave. He knew Riku didn’t want to see his dad at all and Axel didn’t blame him. He hadn’t shown up to the funeral, he only ever thought about business, and he was gay with his second-in-command Saïx. Shit, Riku’s going to fucking kill me. He thought as Riku walked out of his room. He looked over at Axel who had an irritated look on his face. He wondered what was bugging the red head since he didn’t usually break free of his care-free look.“What’s wrong?”Riku questioned. Axel realized he was letting his annoyance at his all-powerful Superior show. He grinned and laughed.“You, that’s what. Your so slow, come on we haven’t got all day princess.”Riku nodded and walked down the stairs with him, leading the way to the beach’s dock where Axel had parked his boat. He grabbed a few of the native flowers that Sora loved and a Paopu fruit to put on Sora’s grave. After they boarded Riku disappeared in to the lower cabin to change into his black suit. Axel and him had agreed that he should at least wear his suit to the grave, so every year Axel would bring him the suit and Riku would put it on during the boat ride. The ride to the main island was short and Riku had just finished putting the suit on when they pulled up. Riku ran a hand through his silver hair and sighed. He could feel that pain coming up into his heart, eating away at it. He took a look at the island that was his safe haven. It had kept his heart safe from the pain, kept him safe from turning to his darkness. The feelings of regret, guilt and sorrow were still eating away at him, but when he was on the island it was slower. He was afraid of losing himself and the only one who could truly stop that was Sora.Axel had already made it into his black mafia car and he honked the horn at Riku. After Riku got in they sped off to where Sora had been laid to rest. It was a very beautiful graveyard all things considered and Sora had one of the nicest plots in the place. Riku got out of the car and so did Axel. They both walked over to the grave with the large tombstone. Axel had gotten his own set of flowers earlier from a local flower shop. A bunch of flowers that Marluxia had suggested, but Axel hadn’t really cared to much about the selection.Wreaths of flowers and various offerings lay about the grave. It almost looked like its own personal flower shop with all the varieties. Riku stood back as Axel laid his flowers down, muttering something that Riku couldn’t hear.“Dumb ass, you’re the only one who can make him happy and you go and die. Now I have to deal with him. I hope you’re watching from up there because he’s suffering ‘cause of you.”After that Axel walked off, leaving Riku alone with the grave. He leaned against his car and pulled out a cigarette and lit it with his favorite lighter. Riku stared at the flowers. He smiled sadly and set his flowers on to the grave.“Looks like you’re really loved, Sora.”Tears welled up in Riku’s eyes. He pulled out a switch blade that he used on the island and cut the Paopu fruit in half. It had been a tradition for Riku and Sora to share a Paopu fruit every New Year’s, but since he was dead Riku had moved it to that day. He set one half of the Paopu fruit on the grave and proceeded in eating the other half. After he was done he leaned over and kissed the grave, laying his head on the cool stone.“I miss you.”He whispered, a tear falling down his face. He then stood up straight and walked over to the car. Axel looked up, surprised Riku wasn’t spending more time there. Last year he was there for almost three hours.“You okay man?”Riku nodded and got in the car. Axel sighed and tossed his cigarette on the ground, stamping it out with his foot. After he got in the car he looked over at Riku. His silver hair fell across his face, hiding himself from the other man. Memories of his brunette floated through his mind, the good’s, the bad’s and the wonderful. Riku was to young to have to be a widow, but he knew death wasn’t something that considered those things. Though the people who killed Sora did. Some bitch punk named Seifer and his two lackey’s were the ones who attacked Riku and Sora. They were after Roxas, but apparently Sora resembled him. He wondered what this Roxas person did to warrant these guys wanting to kill him. Sadly enough he probably would never know. Riku hadn’t gone to the initial trial, he couldn’t deal with it, so Aerith went for him and spoke in his place. It had been enough for them to get life, but nothing like what Riku wanted. He wanted the death penalty, but he assumed it was his own fault for not going. A year ago Axel had told Riku about the leader, Seifer and the one who had raped Sora, was trying to get parole. Riku had insisted he attend. At the time Riku hadn’t gotten a hair cut in almost two years and it was almost to his ass. Axel thought it was hot, but Riku wanted a haircut before he stood before a judge. Riku had testified and he tried to push the death penalty, but it was no good. Riku couldn’t stop blaming himself for the lack of justice that Sora had been served. If he hadn’t wussed out this Seifer character and his friends would probably be dead now. As Riku reminisced Axel kept glancing at him. He hoped he didn’t notice where they were headed, but it had been awhile since Riku had been at the Organization building. When Axel pulled up to the white sky-scraper, Riku looked up in confusion.“Where are we?”Axel laughed and opened the car door. “I have to go get something before I drop you off so wait here, ’kay bud?”Riku nodded, his eyes narrowed in suspicion. Axel smirked and ran into the building. He wasn’t going to drag Riku in there without help. He knew the silver-haired man would waste his ass if he tried. So Axel ran up to where Saïx’s room to enlist the bluenette’s help.As Riku waited in the car, he glanced out the window. There wasn’t a whole lot to see, some people were walking along, there were some shops that he had no interest in and a dog was tied up to a fire hydrant. He sighed and leaned back in the chair, wondering how long it took Axel to get whatever the hell it was he needed.Riku glanced out the window again and his eyes almost fell out. Across the street, walking nonchalantly, was what looked like Sora. The butt was the same, back was the same, he couldn’t tell anything else since what he believed to be Sora had his back turned and a hood up. Riku could feel his heart racing and his mind tried to reason with him that it was just another illusion, but he hadn’t had any while he was wide awake.Riku threw the car door open, not evening bothering to shut the door and raced across the street, barely missing an oncoming car. He looked around, searching for his love and saw his cute little ass walk around a corner. He raced after him, pushing others around him, trying to make away faster way to Sora. “Wait!”He yelled, trying to get his attention, but Sora kept walking. He turned another corner into an alleyway. Riku was a second behind him and when he turned the corner, nothing. Riku stood still, his heart shattering and his mind, though against the whole idea in the first place, reeling. He knew it was Sora, he knew it, but there was nothing. Riku felt that crushing pain intensify and he could feel his vision blur. The pain was to much, this was the worst time for him to have delusions. Riku felt his already weak heart start to snap and white spots met his gaze. Riku fell to his knees, clutching his heart. A startled voice met his ears and he tried to look at the source, but couldn’t make out who it was. He felt someone shake him and this body went numb. A few words broke through that he could barely make sense of.“Where are you hurt?”Riku somehow managed to grab the person’s hand and place it against his heart.“My heart, it hurts.”He whispered before letting the darkness take over, then there was nothing. No pain, no feelings, no nothing and he was at peace for the first time in three years. That day Roxas had been told by his father to go out and get some groceries. They were low on milk and eggs and stuff and Cloud had to work so Roxas had to go and get the stuff. He sighed and pulled on his hoodie, not really feeling like moving around that day. He grabbed some money and headed out. On his way down Bacchan, an old neighbor of his, stopped him. She needed some stuff for her shop and wanted him to get it for her and bring them over later, back door as usual. He obliged and she slipped him some cash along with some extra.
Roxas couldn’t say no to the old lady, she was just so nice and would always pay him kindly too. The trip wasn’t so awful. He brought his I-pod along and listened to some new music he had downloaded. He decided to put his hoodie up since his ears were getting cold, it was the middle of winter. He got the stuff he needed and Bacchan’s stuff too, before he headed on back. What made that day different though was Roxas decided to take a short cut. He wanted to watch a show that was coming on soon and he was going to miss the beginning if he didn’t hurry. The reason he didn’t like going that way though was because of the big, scary-looking building. He didn’t like the sheer white of it and it just plain creeped him out.As he walked by Roxas stuck his tongue out. He then quickened his pace, not wanting to incur the imaginary wrath of that thing. As he rounded the corner his favorite song came on and he turned it up. Maintaining his quickened pace he turned again into the alley where Bacchan’s back door for her store was. He walked right in and gave the merchandise over to her. Receiving some extra cash and a lollipop which he shoved in his pocket for later. As he walked out he saw a strange sight. A gorgeous silver-haired man was kneeling in front of the alleyway. He looked like he was in a lot of pain and Roxas ran over to see if he was okay.“Hey, sir? Sir are you okay?”The man looked up at him with beautiful sea-green eyes that were swimming. The man didn’t look good at all. Roxas tried to get a response from him, but after none he pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and dialed 9-1-1. He told them to come quick. Afterwards he looked down at Riku.“Where does it hurt?”He said to him. The man grabbed his hand and put it on his heart. Roxas felt his own flutter furiously and a blush break out that was only intensified when the man spoke.“My heart, it hurts.”He said before slipping into unconsciousness. Roxas didn’t understand what just happened and he didn’t have time to think about it as the ambulance pulled up and rushed the two off to the hospital.Back at the car Axel was dragging an annoyed Saïx out of the Organization building. He had been up all night with Xemnas and he just wanted to sleep. He didn’t understand why the red-head couldn’t have drug Marluxia or Xigbar out. And the he wouldn’t shut up. He kept going on about Riku and how he didn’t think Superior would benefit from having him back. Saïx paid no attention to him until he went silent. He looked up to see a confused then panicked look on his face.
“What? Where’s Riku?”Axel looked over at him then gulped. A more annoyed look came over the berserkers face and Axel put his hands behind his back, trying to come up with something.“W-well, you see about that. It seems Riku, that dick-face, ran off with my car. Ah ha ha.”Saïx was about to blow when he realized what that meant. A sadistic smirk played on his lips and it made Axel very uncomfortable.“You can tell the Superior.”Axel groaned and cursed Riku for all eternity. That damned zombie was going to get it when he saw him next. He couldn’t believe he took his car too. So what if Axel lured him to his father’s place, that didn’t warrant him taking his car. “Asshole.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
