Nessa had fallen asleep quickly after drinking the potion Karasae made for her. The demon had insisted on staying in Azeroth to take care of her while she slept, and to intercept any messengers. The blood elf was covered with wounds, and Karasae was doing her best to put salve and bandages on all of them. She planned to make her summoner see a healer when she woke up, but for the time being, she thought rest was more important. Finishing up with the bandages, she turned to Nessa's robe. It was a bloody, ripped mess. She soaked it to prepare it for washing, but there wasn't anything she could do about the damage. The cloak didn't fare much better. In fact, it looked like her clothes had been thrown into a blender.
She was interrupted from cleaning up when she heard someone at the door. When she went to answer it, she was greeted by a rather rude messenger.
"Demon, where is your mistress? I must speak to Nessa at once."
"That's Commander Felwhisper to you, and she is resting after the battle for the Undercity. I will deliver whatever message you have brought to her."
"Unacceptable! I have strict orders to deliver this message to her myself!"
"Then you can return later. I will not wake her for something -or in your case, someone- I deem unimportant."
The blood elf was clearly flustered with the demon's behavior. He thought for a second about how to proceed, and decided on something less than diplomatic.
"If I have to go get the city guards, I will."
"Yes, tell them that you want to force your way into the home of one of the Horde's champions mere hours after she personally aided Thrall and Sylvanas in retaking the Undercity. I'll stand right here while you do that; I want to see what happens to you."
He hesitated upon hearing this. He'd heard about the events at the Undercity, but he hadn't heard any names. If the demon was telling the truth, he'd just be getting himself into trouble. After all, it wasn't as though she had to sign for it. Grudgingly, he handed over a scroll.
"Just make sure she receives it sealed, demon."
He turned and left, Karasae quickly locking the door and returning to the work she had given herself. She checked on Nessa quickly, but the bed was in the soundproof bubble. The sleeping elf hadn't heard a thing. She wore her mask well, but in truth, she was really worried about Nessa. The warlock hadn't so much as rolled over since laying down, and Karasae was starting to see blood spotting some of the bandages. She entered the bubble and shook Nessa gently to wake her.
"Nessa, I think we need to take you to a healer."
"Mmm?" Nessa replied groggily, squinting a bit, "How long was I asleep?"
"Only a few hours, but I don't think my bandages were good enough."
Nessa sat up and looked at her arms and chest. The pain of moving and stretching the wounds made her wince. She looked at the blood soaking through the bandages and sighed, "Alright, help me get up and get dressed."
Karasae fetched a clean robe for Nessa and helped her to her feet, trying to avoid the wounds. Carefully dressing the injured blood elf, Karasae helped her out the door. She was having trouble walking thanks to a particularly large gash on her leg. Nessa was putting a lot of her weight on the small demon as they slowly made their way to where the priests resided. Blood began to trickle down her leg, eventually running to her ankle.
"It would be a lot faster and less painful if you'd let me carry you."
"And less dignified."
Karasae sighed, barely stifling a growl, "Foolish elf. Why would you put pride above your own well being?"
A pair of guards took notice of Nessa limping and leaning on her demon and changed path, quickly making their way to her.
"Commander Felwhisper! You could have requested a healer sent to your home!"
"It's a bit late for that now; I'm almost there."
Nessa made a mental note to ask Captain Kanas what perks came with her new rank. She'd been thrown into this position rather unceremoniously, providing her with little clue as to her new responsibilities. All she knew for sure was that people were referring to her by rank now. As they entered Sunfury Spire, Belestra approached with a look of concern.
"You two can resume your patrols now," she said to the guards. Once they had left, she turned to Nessa, "I didn't even know you were back yet, Comman-"
"Stop," Nessa said wearily, "I've had just about enough of being referred to by rank."
Belestra nodded, "I understand, sister. Show me your injuries."
"I..."
"Oh, of course. Follow me to my private chamber."
They entered a narrow passageway, following Belestra until she turned and opened a door. The room wasn't all that spacious, but there wouldn't be a problem performing an examination here.
"It's painful for me to reach the buttons in the back."
Belestra walked behind her and helped her disrobe, remarking as she unfastened the row of buttons, "Your demon dressed you?"
"And bandaged me."
Belestra furrowed her brow as she began to remove the bandages, "The salve was a very bad idea. Surely you didn't think she could recover without a healer?" She sighed and added, "It's going to be painful to remove. I hope you realize you're causing your mistress pain right now."
Karasae hung her head, dejected, and Nessa said in Demonic, "Ignore her. I'm the one who wanted to sleep instead of coming straight here."
Karasae simply nodded quietly. Belestra assumed she had been scolded, or perhaps threatened, for her mistake. Nessa winced and grunted in pain as the priest began cleaning the salve away with alcohol. Several of the wounds were bleeding now, and she was leaving a small amount of blood on the floor. Once the salve had been completely cleaned off, Belestra began focusing on the larger wounds. One on the right calf, one across her back, and one a few inches below her right breast. The many other wounds were significant, but they could wait a little bit longer. She applied a viscous liquid sparingly to the wound tracts one by one with a cotton swab, using her healing magic on each before moving on. The whole process took a little over two hours. Belestra walked around the warlock, carefully inspecting her. She ran her finger lightly along the faint pink mark where the wound below her breast was before. Nessa shuddered and blushed, turning away. Her nipples hardened as the priest's finger glided over the sensitive skin. Belestra chuckled softly and smiled.
"I'm sorry dear, I didn't mean to embarrass you. You're in no condition for such things anyway. Is there a reason you have no undergarments?"
"The bandages made them inconvenient."
Belestra nodded and replied, "I'll have two guards escort you home. We can't have you going home unguarded in your condition without any panties. That's just asking for trouble. I'm also recommending to Captain Kanas that you be given one week leave."
"I cannot-"
"One week!" she snapped, fixing a stern gaze at Nessa, "Whether you like to hear it or not, you're a commander now. That means you won't just be getting yourself killed. Anyone under your command would be in danger." Nessa lowered her head and she put a finger under the warlock's chin, raising her head again to look in her eyes, "I'm sorry, sister, but you're reckless. You always have been. It is my responsibility to ensure your survival, and that means taking you out of action until you recover completely. Get dressed so I can have the guards escort you home."
Nessa meekly complied. Karasae hid her anger at the priest's behavior to avoid outing her summoner, but it took a lot of her self control. Only Karasae was permitted to speak to Nessa that way. The demon was the firm hand in the relationship, not some healer. And this military escort the priest was demanding was undermining Karasae's status as Nessa's protector. Still, she quietly went along with the situation. Warlocks that are found to be in a relationship with their demons are often executed. Once they were home, Karasae sat Nessa down on the bed and started explaining how she felt about the situation. Her emotions quickly welled up and she began crying. Nessa put her arm around the demon's shoulders.
"I know sweetie, I know. I don't really like her attitude either, but she just thinks she's protecting me. You want that, right? For me to be safe?" Karasae nodded, sniffling as she wiped away a tear, "Then don't stay mad at her for that. Just be happy that I'm okay now."
"I just can't stand someone else talking to you like that!"
"Shh... Karasae... I'm so sorry that we have to keep ourselves hidden, I really am. I'd love to be able to be open about us. It's not like I'm ashamed of you."
"I know," the demon whimpered, curling up against her summoner, "I'll be good." She sat up suddenly, startling the elf, "Oh! You have a sealed message!"
Karasae dashed off, returning quickly with the scroll that had been delivered earlier. Nessa took it with a sigh. The seal was official. She was hardly in any condition to deal with a missive of this sort, and thanks to the priest, she would probably be court martialed if she tried. Nessa ran a fingernail under the seal and broke it, unrolling the scroll slowly. As she began to read it, she blinked slowly, as if about to pass out. With another sigh, she rolled it back up and set it aside.
"The taunka want to hold my official promotion ceremony."
"Isn't... it odd for these ceremonies to take place outside of Silvermoon?"
"Yes, but somehow they got it in their heads that I'm their savior. All I did was stir up the hornets' nest and get their home overrun. Ugh..." Nessa put her hand on her forehead, hunching over. Her head was spinning from the blood loss. Karasae tried to make her lay down, but she shook her head quickly. "N-no... I'm fine."
"You haven't slept properly in days... wait! You haven't eaten either!"
Karasae ran into the kitchen to try to find something, but just ended up scratching her head at the food stores. She had no need to eat, and thus, no idea how to prepare food. A weak chuckle came from the doorway.
"You look lost." The demon turned and saw her summoner standing there, propping one hand on the door frame. "I'll eat if you insist, but you must understand that I don't exactly have an appetite."
The demon quietly watched her prepare a simple sandwich, making a mental note. Nessa struggled to chew, wincing at the pain in her jaw.
"Fucking cloth armor, I swear."
"Um... about your armor..."
"It's destroyed?" Karasae nodded. "Pity. Well, get the blood out if you can. It's frowned upon to simply throw away the armor you were wearing when you received a promotion. Though the orcs and trolls would probably respect me more if you left it bloody."
"It's soaking already."
"That's fine. I'll have a tailor take a look at it, but I'm not holding my breath."
"Do you want something for your pain?"
Nessa suddenly looked sadly over at the demon, leaning against the counter and nodding. Karasae patted her head before dashing off to the lab. She came back almost immediately with a vial of translucent red liquid.
"You had this ready."
"Of course. Your comfort is important to me, Nessa."
The blood elf's ears drooped. She put her sandwich down and walked over to hug the demon. She closed her eyes and sighed heavily, leaning her head against her lover's shoulder.
"I don't deserve you."
"N-Nessa?" The demon was shocked by Nessa's sudden change of demeanor. After a brief moment, she returned the embrace, stroking Nessa's hair with her free hand.
"You're so good to me... and all I do is make you worry about me."
"Hush, you. I don't want to hear anymore of that nonsense out of you. Do you hear me? Not one more word. I love you. I've never loved anything in my very long life before you, so you can't possibly think I just fell for your pointy ears."
Nessa smiled, nuzzling the demon. "I love you too, Karasae."
"Finish your food, Nessa. I need to give you this potion too."
Nessa nodded and turned away, going back to her half-eaten sandwich. She had to chew carefully, even with the soft bread. After she finally finished, she took the vial from the demon and drank it quickly, tilting her head back. Before she even realized the demon was approaching her, Karasae had picked her up, holding her gently in both arms.
"No one's here to see this very undignified gesture, so you'll be quiet and let me carry you to bed."
Nessa simply giggled and wrapped her arms around the demon. The potion wasn't without its side effects - she felt drunk. When the demon laid her on the bed, she hooked her finger under the skimpy top and pulled Karasae on top of her, kissing her full on the mouth.
"I missed you." Nessa breathed, looking into the demon's eyes. "Take me."
"But your injuries-"
"Then be gentle."
Karasae didn't need a whole lot of encouragement, and finally gave in. She was gentle, she was careful, and she wasn't the least bit dominant. Nessa understandably lacked her usual stamina, but gave it her best until she couldn't give anymore. They embraced until Nessa was about to fall asleep. With her last waking act, she dismissed Karasae to let her rest as well.
