The swish of fabric brought Ookami’s head up from the map she’d been studying, sparing a glance at the young assassin boy in front of her she barked out “report” the steely control in her tone spoke of her authority and right to lead, Ookami had been the leader of the assassin group known as Tempest since the age of twelve and she was known as one of the most talented assassins in Cantha.
Saluting the young assassin gave his report “the assassin Keba arrived in Shing Jea monastery, the monks say that he found the man he was hired to kill and followed him into the country side, our scouts found signs of a fight but there were no bodies, we’ve found traces of a trail into the mountains but they are vague and we’re having trouble sorting out what’s happened” Ookami nodded her cold blue eyes were calculating “for the time being we have no choice but to believe that Keba is dead, the code of our clan demands that we complete Keba’s mission, send Raze to pick up Keba’s trail” Dismissing the boy Ookami rubbed her temples something told her there was more to this mission then met the eye. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Incense perfumed Hadrian’s world, even in sleep the smell of frankincense and cherry blossoms filled his dreams and relaxed him. For the first time in his life Hadrian was able to sleep peacefully, no longer haunted by his nightmares of the dead and dying. Keba watched as the sun’s soft rays shone on the sleeping necromancer, the light dancing in the long sliver locks, making the thin man’s pale skin practically glow. Keba was leaning on the stone wall near the back of the cemetery, after arriving at the old shrine Keba found a small quite spot near the back where it was out of site from visitors or travelers that would happen to pass by. Glancing back at the sleeping man Keba frowned at the sight of the bandages, it made him seem all the more . . . small and frail. “Hmm…” Keba started when he heard Hadrian mumble in his sleep and started to stir, pale eyes fluttered opened and stared unfocused up at the roof of the shrine. “Finally awake, that’s good you had me worried for a bit” reaching out Keba steadied him as he moved to set up “easy now, we don’t need you to pass out again” Hadrian shook his head as if to clear it “where…where am I?” Sure that the thin man could hold himself up Keba leaned back against the wall once more “we’re in a small cemetery near Shing Jea monastery” Hadrian tensed “so you’re going to kill me after all” Keba blinked confused by the sudden shift in topic “what? No I’m not going to kill you why on earth would you think that?” “b-but we’re in a cemetery an-“ Keba laughed suddenly realizing what the necromancer must have been thinking “we’re in this cemetery because it’s quit and out of the way hardly anyone ever comes here” Hadrian blushed again for the second time in his whole life, it was very confusing, looking down at the ground he muttered “I-I’m . . . sorry I’m not really use to being around others” as he felt the blush leave his face he looked back up at Keba “and I heard a lot of stories about assassins…” he trailed off unsure what to say “it not like I’m worried about dying i-i mean not like it would matter or anything” he finished off awkwardly rubbing his neck where the assassin’s blade had nicked him, the tip of his sharp nails catching the dried blood causing it to flake off Keba sighed “ah yes the infamous assassins reputation, fearless cold blooded killer with no humanity or remorse capable killing any mark and then vanishing without a trace, I wonder how many of the stories they spread about us are exaggerated for the majority of my career as an assassin I’ve been a glorified monster hunter. As for your lack of fear, in my experience people who doesn’t fear dyeing ether think their immortal or have nothing left to live for. I can’t help but wonder which are you?” Sitting up a little more and resting his arms on his knees Hadrian ran his fingers through his slivery locks , looking down he gave Keba a half smile and a short quite laugh “I’m defiantly not immortal” he shook his head and started to stand up wincing little from the pain in his side. Keba closed his eyes “so nothing to live for huh, here’s some advice, find something to work for it’ll keep you sane” “I’m not insane!” Hadrian bit back in a rough tone as he turned to fully face Keba “Tempest, I heard about them but mostly about one assassin who wasn’t afraid of death either, and what about you! Do you think yourself immortal?” he shook his head and sighed “you should have just killed me, so what if I don’t want to live” then as an afterthought he laughed and shot Keba an evil grin “maybe I will destroy a town then you will have to kill me, if I have to go out might as well go out with a bang” Lunging forward Keba grabbed Hadrian by the collar and gave him a hard shake “you want to know about the assassin who doesn’t fear death, he’s a pathetic man who couldn’t save his family from a deranged necromancer and is too cowardly to take his own life so instead he takes difficult missions in the hopes of dying, oh he claims he’s seeking information on his family’s killer but really he doesn’t care if he finds him or not, he just wants death!” He dropped the thin necromancer and turned away “the world has enough monsters without you adding to the pile Hadrian” Hadrian stumbled back after Keba let him go and he felt afraid, something he hasn’t felt in years and the things Keba said jolted him out of his pity party and made him feel selfish, and sad. “…” he was at a loss of words trying to think of something to say, ‘sorry?’ or ‘no hard feelings’ it just didn’t seem like there was anything he could say. The emotions he saw in the taller man’s eyes, broke his heart and for some reason he hated himself for being the cause of such pain, never wanting to see those deep dark eyes ever look at him in such away again. As Hadrian’s own emotions began to twist and turn, he began to feel anger, sadness, fear, and hope, hope that he was not alone in this cruel world, but this didn’t stop him from feeling bad about what he said or how he acted. Hadrian started to walk out of the cemetery and only paused briefly to stand beside Keba, without looking at him not trusting himself to look the other in the eyes without saying something upsetting, he spoke as calmly as he could “I’m sorry . . . for everything.” And with that he started out the archway thinking it was the right thing to do, almost making it out he thought back but to Keba’s last words he couldn’t help but say “you’re wrong Keba… I am a monster” Keba turned as the necromancer walked away unsure what he should do, would it be alright just to let him go what if someone else tried to kill him? The snap of branches had him rushing forward, Hadrian’s confused expression was the last thing Keba saw before he knocked the other man to the ground, the clang of metal as the knife Keba had thrown hit the one aimed for Hadrian’s chest had Keba on his feet and moving to meet the assassin now running at them, drawing his daggers he met the black haired man “back off Raze this isn’t the man we’re looking for” The happy look in Raze’s black eyes left Keba feeling cold “oh really and how am I supposed to believe that all I see is a filthy necromancer and a pathetic traitor, when I kill you and your friend master Ookami will hail me as a hero” Parrying the flurry of slashes Keba jumped back “you really think she’ll believe you! I have served the order faithfully for years!” Raze gave a cruel laugh, his deep red mask hiding the evil smile on his face “they already think your dead, no one will question me if I return without you” **** “What the …why” Was all Hadrian could mutter as he started to get up after having the wind knocked out of him, hearing metal clashing against metal he looked up to see Keba fighting with another assassin in black with short black hair. “Ke- urrrh” just as he tried to get up he felt a pang in his side “shit!” looking down Hadrian saw small spots of blood welling up, looking up again to see Keba fighting with the other man and nearly getting stabbed in the neck, Hadrian did the only thing he could think of, “guess it doesn’t matter if I die at least I can help” Hadrian started to raise up off the ground as dark and light green plumes of smoke started to form around his entire form, as the energy built up in his body he could feel it being drawn to his core, suddenly his whole body jerked back like someone was trying to bend backwards, as his head snapped back his clawed hands reached out in front of him and a giant skull, made out of thick black greenish smoke formed and shot out towards where the two assassins were. As the smoke skull flew through the air it broke up into tiny fly shaped pieces and started to get bigger. The swarm went straight for the assassin in black, as Hadrian fell back down on the ground he laid there panting as the deadly swarm spell used up a lot of his life force and with the bleeding, he wasn’t feeling too good. **** Dodging back as a swarm of black fly like creatures attacked Raze, Keba caught sight of Hadrian slumping to the ground. Cursing he threw a knife at Raze, he didn’t bother checking where it actually hit the disoriented assassin the pained shout told him all he needed to know. Keba rushed to Hadrian “oh no you don’t, I’ve worked too hard to have you die on me now” lifting the necromancer up he sprinted from the shrine, Razes angry shouts echoing behind them. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
