The Secret Chapter
Pit rolled his shoulders and tilted his head from side to side to stretch the muscles of his neck, his fingers curled loosely around the hilt of the First Blade. Behind him, Centurions hovered in the air, armoured and ready with bows and heavenly arrows stocked in their quivers. He had already given them a rousing pep talk, as many of them had expressed horror when he had informed them of the deal he had made with the Goddess they were tasked to protect, and a number of them had outright fainted when he had chosen their units to accompany him. Now though, they held themselves much more confidently, particularly when he had revealed his primary strategy that had them going nowhere near the Goddess in the first place. "Come on, Lady Palutena", Pit muttered, glancing up at the sky and shading his eyes as he checked the position of the sun. "Boss", one the Centurions beside his shoulder alerted. Pit refocused his eyes and saw the column of golden light materialising ahead of him. The form of the goddess began to take shape and gain solidarity within the light, though even before she had fully come into being, Pit could see that something was amiss. He narrowed his eyes as he noticed this, trying to piece together the puzzle. A few moments later, however, the Goddess answered the unasked question for them as she materialised fully and the column of light dissipated in her wake. The Centurions behind Pit gasped and several physically recoiled in surprise, and perhaps terror. Pit's own eyes widened, for he had never seen Palutena in the form she now took. Her customary dove-white dress was augmented by armour that all but covered her torso while following the curvature of her shapely form. Golden in colour and polished to reflect the warm sunlight, an emblem was etched into the armour just about the swell of Palutena's chest, depicting the nature of the light that Palutena ultimately governed. Gauntlet-covered hands gripped the blue length of Palutena's staff, as well as slipping beneath the thick leather strap of her crystal blue circular shield. Patterned golden greaves armoured her legs and feet, a slight wind fluttering the hem of her battledress to reveal them momentarily. And upon her head sat a golden helm from whose sides extended the metallic wings of a griffon. Her long green hair streamed out from underneath it, stirred by the wind at its ends. But perhaps most striking of all was the fact that the helm's visor was completely opaque. A sheet of gold that Pit could not pierce through and had no idea how the Goddess intended to fight equipped with. "Lady Palutena..." Pit breathed, completely overtaken by the Goddess' appearance, "what...what is this?" "This, Pit?" she replied, gesturing to herself as her voice carried over to him clear and strong despite the nature of her helm, "why, I like to call this my 'serious face'". Pit swallowed, glancing down at himself and his rather thin chiton. Palutena laughed softly, sweeping her staff in his direction and causing most of the Centurions to yelp in fear at the rather gentle action. A familiar box materialised in front of him, one that brought light to his eyes and a wide grin to his lips. "I thought Hades destroyed them!" Pit marvelled as he kicked the box open and the Sacred Treasures glittered magnificently before his eyes. "Dyntos was kind enough to rebuild them in their original form, though he demanded a rather detailed play-by-play of your upcoming humiliation in return". "Yeah!" Pit exclaimed, equipping the Treasures and fist pumping, "wait, what?" "I am going to teach you the folly of challenging a Goddess to a duel, Pit", Palutena said as she planted the butt of the staff solidly to the ground beside her, "as they like to say down there on Earth: Come at me!" "This will be over in no time!" Pit declared, lifting the First Blade high into the air, "Centurions!" Pit dashed forwards towards Palutena, a gleam in his eyes and a confident curve upon his lips as he lifted the Blade to strike, fully expecting the incoming shower of covering fire from the Centurions. Instead, Pit heard a simultaneous cry from the Centurions behind him, and overhead he glimpsed arrows of light lancing through the air down towards the arena. He skidded to a halt and turned on his heel just as the last of the Centurions vanished in a puff of glittering dust, shock carving itself into his features. He turned back to Palutena with outrage upon his face. "You didn't prohibit heavenly rain of justice, Pit!" Palutena countered before he even had a chance to open his mouth, spinning the staff through the air and bringing it to the ready before her, "don't worry, they aren't dead. But this is just between you and I, my little angel. Hah!" Palutena charged straight at Pit, making for a menacing figure equipped in her battledress and helm. Pit loosed a growl from behind locked teeth and met the Goddess' charge head on. His Blade bounced off her shield as she feinted leading in with a thrust from her staff before hiding herself behind the shield and driving straight through him. Pit was thrown off balance and stumbled, flailing wildly to steady himself as Palutena turned neatly on her heel and planted the staff to the ground once more. Pit heard the arrows of light whistling through the air before he saw them; he pivoted on his heels and flipped through the air in an intricate series of movements to avoid being struck. Palutena met his subsequent charge without moving, only subtly shifting her shield to intercept Pit's strikes. She met a particularly strong downward slice from him with her staff, catching the Blade's edge in the curve of the staff's head as she peeked over the edge of her shield. "Wow, Pit", she said with a definite teasing tone in her voice, "I almost felt that one". It was disconcerting to be looking directly at Palutena's face and yet only see a sheet of metal in its place. Pit narrowed his eyes at her taunt and twisted the Blade in his hands, pulling away from the Goddess. Raising the shield, Palutena advanced on him, thrusting the staff at him over the edge of the shield. He pulled his head aside in time, but was forced to duck a moment later as she swept the staff to the side, and while he had yet to recover, she drove the shield forward into him. He met it with his own, and for a long moment, metal screeched upon metal as they fought a battle of brute strength. Pit gritted his teeth as a painful ache began to spread through his right arm; Palutena merely titled her head as she - Pit assumed - watched him struggle, driving her shield through his resistance. Thrown backwards, Pit heard Palutena slam her staff to the ground once more before he could look up and verify it with his eyes. When he did recover to his feet, however, he found that Palutena was hanging high above in the air, the gem at the head of her staff glowing intensely. "Look out, Pit!" Palutena cried out as she swept the staff through the air, a beam of light erupting from the staff's sapphire and tearing through the ground towards Pit. Pit's eyes widened and he yelped as he threw himself aside in the nick of time, narrowly avoiding the rain of arrows in the process. "Hey! I said no laser beams!" Pit shouted from the ground as a scorched arc inches away from his face smoked. Another yelp was pulled from Pit's throat as the Goddess suddenly vanished from the sky and reappeared right in front of him, the glowing sapphire pointed directly at him. "And no teleporting, right?" Palutena said, "it's just a shame you didn't read the contract properly, Pit". "I can't read!" Pit retorted, rolling to the side and sweeping his Blade upwards to meet the staff. "I know!" Palutena exclaimed, twirling the staff through the air before holding it at the ready tucked beneath her armpit and charging at Pit as he recovered to his feet. "Grrr!" Pit growled as he turned Palutena's thrust away with his shield, "you're cheating! I hate cheaters!" "You hate me, then, Pit?" Palutena cooed, meeting his slash with the length of her staff and leading the Blade aside, following up with a swipe of her shield, "my heart hurts to hear you say that". "That's not what I mean!" Pit hurriedly repaired as he barely avoided being smashed in the face by the Goddess' shield. He recovered his balance and swung for her midriff, "just stop cheating!" Palutena vanished even before the final word had left his lips. Pit stumbled as his strike's momentum carried him off balance, happening to turn slightly at the same time. Palutena stood behind him, her staff pointed directly at him with the sapphire glowing dangerously. Pit raised his shield instinctively, staggering as the beam of light struck hard and ricocheted off into the distance. "Hah!" Palutena cried as she rushed towards him. "Stop. Cheating!" Pit yelled as he charged forwards. They met fiercely and struck up a savage, rapid exchange. Sparks were cast into the air as shields clashed and Blade and staff smashed into each other with very real force. Pit found himself beginning to smile as the raw spirit of battle overtook him and he sank deep into his body, leaving conscious thought behind. Though fatigue began to eat away at him with its familiar burn, he lifted his shield and Blade time and again to meet and counter his Goddess' strikes. He was enjoying it. Immensely. This was a fight unlike any other he had engaged in in all his years, a battle waged not for the salvation of this or the other - one waged not necessarily for his own pride either. It hit with crystal clear clarity as he turned aside another thrust of Palutena's staff; he was out matched. There was no way he could stand toe-to-toe with the Goddess if she chose to really fight him. But she wasn't necessarily pulling her punches either. She fought him with a truth he could understand, and he found that in the fervour of battle, he knew the Goddess in a way that was beyond his means of describing. As he watched the movements of her body, the manner in which she turned as she shifted her balance, the sound of her breaths as they clashed their weapons and bore down upon each other face-to-face, he found that these were the things he could read. He understood them, and by extension the Goddess herself. The end came swiftly and suddenly, Palutena sweeping the staff low in a rather crude motion after driving Pit off balance with her shield. She hooked it behind his right ankle, pulling his leg high into the air. Pit yelped as he stumbled and fell, wincing as he hit the ground hard. Palutena's heel came down upon Pit's wrist, gently. A warning, even as she pointed her staff at his face. Pit paused for a moment, and then something strange overtook him. With his shield arm, Pit reached up and pulled on the staff in a movement swifter than Palutena could react to. It was her turn to yelp in surprise as she lost her balance and fell atop him. "Well", Palutena said, slipping her arm from her shield strap and reaching up to her helm, sliding the opaque visor up into the depths of the helm and away from her face, "that was rather bold of you, Pit". Her face was flushed a little, and her lips parted slightly as she noticeably breathed a little more heavily than usual. Pit merely gazed up at her. She watched him silently as he reached up a few moments later, placing his hands on either side of her helm and slowly lifting it away from her head. Her hair fell around her face, falling to brush along Pit's cheeks. The heat of battle was upon them, Pit could see it in the way Palutena breathed as his arms dropped away to the side, her helm clattering as it hit the ground beside them. They paid it no mind. Pit could see in Palutena's gaze that she had understood him as they had fought, too. He could see a fire in her jade eyes as they roved over his face, and he did not doubt that she saw the same in his. A powerful hunger was beginning to make its presence felt within him, a primitive sense of desire that he had no intention of holding back. He lifted his head as Palutena lowered her face, shrouding them with curtains of hair as their lips met. Softly, at first, but then it became more urgent. All the kiss had served to do was stoke a fire strong within their core, and now they locked lips hard and passionately. Palutena reached upwards and tugged Pit's own helm from his head, her fingers sliding into his hair a moment later as he was freed of its weighty burden. He emulated her, raising his hand and losing his fingers in her long, soft locks as she fed her tongue into his mouth, the muscle strong and wet and so very alive as it danced with his own. Pit gave himself to instinct, just as he had done in battle, allowing his body to naturally lead him. His free hand rose, eager to feel the supple body of Palutena upon its palm, yet he found only the cold metal of her armour. He frowned, and moaned his small annoyance into their kiss. Palutena read it as capably as she had read his every strike and parry and thrust when they had stood locked in battle. Passing a hand along the armour encasing her torso, Palutena then did the same for his. Nothing happened initially, but the next second, their armour simply seemed to crumble instantaneously. Gold and silver dust intermingled as it surrounded their scene of passion, rising up to disappear upon a whisper of wind. Pit's hand hungrily traced the curvature of Palutena's body as she pressed her own against his chest, kissing him deeply as her own sense of hunger gnawed at her core. Her hand travelled lower even as his found the slit in her dress along her left side, drawing a sigh from his throat as he felt the smooth skin of her thigh beneath his palm. His eyes suddenly snapped open as she lifted the hem of his chiton and grazed her fingers along him. She noticed as his body stiffened and his lips grew unresponsive, his hand falling away from her. She parted lips with him and raised her head to look down at him properly. He swallowed as he gazed up into her eyes. "Pit..." "Lady Palutena, this..." "Is alright", she finished for him, but he shook his head. "No, no. You are a Goddess, my Lady. I am just an angel, a servant at best", Pit said, turning his face away. "You are so much more to me", Palutena said gently, with her hand still lost in his hair turning his face to her once more, "a servant, Pit?" Palutena laughed, saying nothing more but merely leaning forward to capture his lips in a slow, deep and meaningful embrace. Pit breathed in sharply as Palutena took hold of him and guided him to her moist centre, nuzzling his head against her lips. She broke their kiss and brought her mouth to his ear. "Do you remember in Chapter 2, Pit? Where I told you I could read your mind through your laurel crown?" "You were bluffing", Pit breathed. "I wasn't", Palutena whispered. She took his lips once more, and they kissed in slow, honest passion. Pit gave the first groan as she lowered herself slowly onto him, closing his eyes as an entirely new and almost overwhelming sensation flooded through his body. She kissed him and murmured gentle reassurance. He kissed her back as she took him to hilt, and whispered his love. Their climax was strong, a flood of powerful sensation that rocked them to the core, and a shout was ripped from Pit’s lips that shamed him not in the slightest. The world around him seemed to contract, every detail blurring into unimportance as he became increasingly aware only of himself and the Goddess. When it was over, she lay at his side, a hand lifted to his cheek as she graced him with a soft smile and sparkling eyes. Pit nervously raised his own hand, as though afraid Palutena might bite him if he dared, but she took his hand in hers and rested in similarly upon her cheek. “I do believe I won”, she said after a long, peaceful moment, her smile widening as she closed her eyes. “I let you win, obviously”, Pit returned. “Obviously”. Pit remembered something at that moment. “Lady Palutena, what are you going to tell Dyntos?” “Hmm”, she pondered, cracking one eye open, “I’m going to tell him that I buried you”, she answered. “Ouch”, Pit winced, “that’s a little harsh, don’t you think - ?”
"Within me", she finished. It took a moment for Pit to grasp the meaning of her words, meeting her gaze blankly as he figured it out, at which point his eyes widened and his face flushed deeply.
"You - you wouldn't!"
"They are Dyntos' favourite kind of stories, you know. He is rather...lecherous".
"I don't even know what that means. And you can't tell him!" Pit cried.
"But isn't it true?" Palutena said as she favoured him with a particularly mischievous smile, glancing down. Pit didn't need to follow her gaze, the mere sparkle in her eyes had caused him to stir.
"Again, my little angel?" Palutena asked in low, husky tones as she reached for him. Pit caught her wrist, however, attempting a severe expression.
"You can't tell him. Promise me you won't, please?"
Palutena laughed softly, drawing him into a deep kiss.
"Spoilsport", she murmured as she released his lips and brushed her fingertips against him, "I promise".
