The elevator opened ever so laxly, and Chris jogged out, Sheva following close behind. Both of the BSAA operatives had their pistols drawn and aimed, prepared for an ambush. Seeing the tanned Humvees, Chris went for the GPS computer that rested idly in the front seat of the military vehicle. "I got it." The male announced, and Sheva acknowledged him with a slight nod. "What was that thing?" Neither of them had ever seen a B.O.W like that before, and it took out Alpha team. He quickly snapped the laptop open, beginning to upload the data to HQ as he replied. "A B.O.W that scumbag Irving left behind to set us up." He typed several commands into the computer, and continued his thought. "Considering what it did to Alpha team, I think were lucky to still be breathing."
Sheva hadn't worked personally with Alpha team before, but she couldn't help but feel great remorse that they couldn't get to them fast enough. She voiced that feeling, a twang of regret in her tone. "If only we could have gotten there sooner." And although Chris felt the same as Sheva, he couldn't help but point out something, no matter how pessimistic it might be. "If we had, we'd probably be dead too. " Sheva contemplated that information, and the two fell silent for several moments, only broken with chatter to HQ. "Chris to HQ, do you copy?" Several seconds of radio silence fell, before they heard a friendly voice.
"This is HQ. Excellent work out there. We'll analyze the data immediately." Chris was all for praise, but he and Sheva were in a very bad situation, surrounded by enemies with no reinforcements. They weren't exactly armed for bare either, only sporting handguns. Chris wanted to get the hell out of Africa as soon as possible. "This whole town's gone to hell. The people here, they're acting like the Ganado detailed in the Kennedy report. And aside from that, there's something new," He had much doubt in his tone, and uncertainty, as he tried to explain to Headquarters that this operation was shit. Sheva injected herself into the conversation, reminding everyone of another problem. "Our transportation has been taken out too." They were sure that they would be pulled out. "Requesting a mission update." She added swiftly.
"The mission stands," HQ announced, "Capturing Irving is your top priority. We believe he may have fled to the mines on the other side of the train station. Chris greedily interjected himself in front of the intel officer on the radio, surprise and a sense of dread coating his words, as he almost frantically replied. "Wait, we're the only two left! You want us to go in there alone?!" Sheva wasn't enjoying this command decision either. "Delta team has been dispatched and are on their way. They will assist you in locating and apprehending Irving. Sheva quickly cried, "But wait, we can't-" "I repeat, your mission stands. We can't afford to let him get away." The officer paused, as if he didn't like the orders either. "Proceed to the mines beyond the train station. Over and out."
"This is insane!" The irritated operative cried. Chris slammed the Humvee door shut and simply questioned the female, "You ever get the feeling your expendable?"
The two both allowed themselves time to calm down. Chris looked over at Sheva, she seemed worried, more so then usual. And the orders from HQ were infuriating, not shrouded in darkness. She seemed to be a very strong woman, not one to fear death, so, that made him wonder, what was she thinking about. The male took a few steps forward, surveying the garage while asking her curiously. "Got any family waiting at home?" That would certainly be a cause for concern, especially if her family depended on her.
Sheva was surprised to hear him ask about such an intimate subject, not that it was an awkward topic to speak of, but she didn't think he cared enough to ask. "No," The female paused, trying to figure out his reasoning for bringing up the subject. "Why? Do you?" Maybe she was wrong. The man, who had taken her from Africa to America and was her legal guardian when she attended her American University, might still have her in mind. Even if at the moment, she had no plans to return to him.
The two needed to catch a bit of breath, and neither of them minded to get to know each other better, so the duo continued the conversation. "No." Chris hadn't had a lot of time to form friendships, on the road as a S.T.A.R.S member most of his life, and the other half, chasing down his old employers experiments and weapons, going everywhere from Europe to Asia with Jill at his side. She is, ... was the first woman he ever loved, outside of his family. Clarie was living her life, and he was living his. He had family, people to attend his funeral, but no one sitting in an empty home waiting for him to walk in. His obsession to stop Umbrella prevented that.
She was actually surprised by his combat skill, he did extremely well against that B.O.W, using the gas canisters as a way to weaken it, and even daring to take it on in close combat with his knife. Though, it wasn't as if he was at a disadvantage, with those hulk-sized muscles, and his towering height. He was one of the eleven that started BSAA, and was one of the most, if not the most experienced members, with more missions then any two agents combined. Sheva realized that her eyes were glued to Chris's body by now, and quickly reverted her eyes for a moment, a small blush overcoming her. She became angry at herself, for not keeping a check on herself and getting distracted from the mission. She quickly injected, "We should probably get going." Out of self-loathing. Even if she had never seen a man that way before, even if inside she was just a girl looking for a love she lost at the hands of Umbrella, she was too occupied to allow herself the pleasure.
Chris hadn't noticed at all. "Right." The two quickly took a count of ammo, grabbed a few supplies from the Humvees, and set out for the Mines.
