Archie’s POV:I decided to throw on something sexy this morning to catch Maxie’s eye. I think this skimpy, tight blue speedo would do the trick nicely! After that I tied back my hair with a blue bandana and threw on a long white button up shirt, but I left it open to show off my nice abs. I slipped on my flip flops before heading out the door.Once I got down there I looked around, trying to spot Maxie. I imagined he’d be sticking out like a sore thumb, but he wasn’t anywhere to be seen. I approached the Seashore House, looking around for him, but he wasn’t inside or out front. Finally, I found him huddled off to the side of the building, his eyes darting from side to side like a lost and frightened pokemon.“Maxie! So that’s where you’re hiding!”“Oh, hello Archie,” he greeted. His eyes glanced down to my speedo and his face turned a cute shade of red. He was hugging his arms across his chest despite it being hot out here, and he was wearing a full bath robe as well. I sighed. Was that guy never too hot?“So, Maxie, are you hungry yet?” I asked.“No…” he muttered as he kept glancing off to the side. I followed his gaze, but there was nothing but a small mound of sand there.“Well, then, Maxie, let’s head out for a nice relaxing beach walk.” I tried to use the most calming tone of voice I could as I took his hand. He let me lead him down closer to the water, but he didn’t say anything and as we got closer and closer, I noticed his footsteps slowing down more and more. Eventually, he halted in his tracks and wouldn’t budge at all, despite me tugging on his hand. He was staring out at the ocean like a man staring at his own execution chamber. “Um, Maxie, are you okay?”“I-I-I’m sorry, I can’t go any closer to the water or I might drown.”I just stared at him, incredulous. Drown? We were standing on solid ground, still several yards from the actual water line. “Maxie, the – the water’s over there. You’ll be fine. I just thought it’d be nice to walk in it so we could at least get our feet wet.” He didn’t answer but just continued staring at it. His face had gone even paler than usual, and I was beginning to wonder if this was even a good idea. “Come on, Maxie,” I coaxed, “you can’t drown if the water is just barely touching your feet. It’ll be fine.”“Archie, what if some nasty sea pokemon grabs me from the shore and drags me in?!”I blinked at him a few times. Was he being serious right now? For real? “Well, then, I’d punch it for you and wrestle it to the ground and shout, ‘give me back my nerd, you sea beast!”He glared at me. “Are you mocking me right now? Because I feel like I’m being mocked right now,” he said huffily.“Come on, Maxie, you’ll be fine,” I soothed. I gently started guiding him down closer to the water, and he followed me, albeit very slowly. Once we were actually close enough for the waves to gently lap against our feet, he grabbed my whole arm and clung to it, pressed tightly against my side. People around us were giving us funny looks, but I just ignored them and tried to get Maxie to actually walk forwards a bit. He did, very slowly, but he whimpered every few feet and stopped until I coaxed him into moving again. This wasn’t exactly the fun, relaxing beach walk I had in mind. Eventually, though, he seemed to gain a bit of confidence and his pace increased and he stopped whining and gripping my arm quite so tightly. After about an hour, he was actually walking and holding my hand like a reasonably normal person. He actually smiled a couple times and seemed to be enjoying the feel of the waves on his feet, although he still refused to go any further into the water. He stopped suddenly and bent over to pick something up. “Hey, Archie,” he said with obvious joy, “look, I found a lava rock! I’ll add it to my collection.” I smiled at him, at least now he was having a bit of fun. I glanced back at the Seashore House, though, and realized that we had gotten rather far out.“Hey, Maxie, we’ve headed a bit far out, it’s probably best that we head on back now.” We walked the rest of the way back, and Maxie didn’t make a fuss. By the time we got back, it was around lunch, and I was getting hungry. “Hey, do you wanna get something to eat?” I asked.Maxie just nodded. I glanced at the Seashore House but the line was just outrageous at this time of day, so we headed over to the boardwalk. We settled on a small casual restaurant that served seafood. Everyone in there were beach goers so they wouldn’t mind us being in our beach clothes. Maxie mumbled his order to the waitress and just picked at his food after he got it. “Um, are you okay?” I asked.“I’m very sorry, Archie, I’ve embarrassed you in public…” he whispered.“No, you did great! You even seemed to be enjoying yourself a little bit towards the end there.”“It was okay,” he answered quietly. He looked down at his plate.Hmm…I knew something that would cheer him up! “Hey, I have an idea! Why don’t we do something fun that you would enjoy next weekend? I’ve actually got both Saturday and Sunday off that week because they accidentally double-booked the shifts.”Maxie seemed to perk right back up. He smiled at me. “Oh, Archie, that’s a great idea! I was already planning a trip for that weekend. Mt. Chimney is predicted to be actively erupting at that time, and I was planning to fly out there in a helicopter and collect data samples. We can collect rocks and poke at lava with sticks! It’ll be fun!”Erm…lava? That sounded really horrible and dangerous and much worse than a trip to the beach, but Maxie was practically beaming right now, and it was so rare to see him smile so much. I just couldn’t bear to say no. “Um, okay, that sounds…great. I’m sure it’ll be…great,” I reluctantly agreed. Maxie just nodded enthusiastically and started wolfing down his fries. This was going to be quite the trip…Later that week the time had unfortunately come to do this thing, and I honestly wasn’t looking forward to it. We had to get up at the crack of dawn on Saturday to catch the helicopter and make it there at the correct time, and we’d have to leave before the volcano potentially killed us both. Maxie kept reassuring me that Mt. Chimney was a “rather docile volcano of slow-moving lava flows and little danger” but I wasn’t exactly buying that. Maxie was practically bouncing in his seat during the helicopter ride, smiling like someone who wasn’t headed towards an active volcano right now. I sat across from him, feeling nervous about the whole thing.“Hey, Maxie,” I asked, “Why is it that you’re terrified of the ocean but totally fine with going near a dangerous volcano? Aren’t you afraid of burning up?”“Nope,” he replied, “I’m not worried at all. Most people who die directly from volcano eruptions are actually hit by pyroclastic flows, also known as pyroclastic density currents. That’s when giant columns of super-heated gas and rocks rush down at amazing speeds of around 450 miles per hour. People who are caught in those are vaporized instantly, so you wouldn’t feel any pain…at least, not for very long. Of course, there are times when people choke to death on volcanic ash or are struck by falling rubble, or even get caught in lava flows and burn to death horribly, but I wouldn’t worry too much about that right now. Oh, and of course, there might be tiny bits of burning ash or debris raining down occasionally, but that’s why I wear all this wool. Wool resists burning, you know.” He finally finished his terrifying explanation of this madness, but he was nodding and smiling at me like this description was meant to be reassuring. All too soon the helicopter was setting down at the base of the volcano, and Maxie was practically leaping out the side door. I followed him much less enthusiastically. Once he was out he ran up the side of the slope and I followed him, if only to make sure he didn’t trip and bust his head open or something. Much to my dismay, there were little bubbly rivers of blackish-colored lava flowing very slowly down the slope here and there, and this all felt incredibly dangerous. “Hey, Maxie, I don’t know if it’s safe to be here,” I called after him.“It’s fine, just try not to step in any of it!” he yelled back. He sniffed deeply before saying, “Wow, you can really smell the sulfur dioxide! Isn’t that great?” He then bent over and picked up a stick. “Hey, Archie, check this out!” He poked at a lava flow with the stick until the stick caught on fire and I gasped in horror. Fortunately, he let go of the stick just before the fire could actually reach his hand. He then proceeded to wander all around, deftly stepping over tiny flows of lava while I desperately tried to keep up.“Hey, Maxie, maybe we should leave now?” I urged. He bent over and picked up a rock and stuck it in his bag. “Check out this rock, Archie! It’s an excellent specimen!” I heard a distant rumbling which made me immensely nervous.“Hey, Maxie, we really probably should leave now!” He waved me away.“It’ll be fine,” he stated nonchalantly, “I’m pretty sure we’ve got a bit of time left before things get truly dangerous.” Pretty sure?! I rushed after Maxie as he collected more rocks and poked at weird crusty semi-dried magma. There was suddenly another rumbling, this time slightly louder.“Maxie!” I yelled, “We really need to leave now!”“Hmm?” he said, finally looking back at me. “Well, I guess we could go, my bag is getting pretty full…” he muttered. Oh thank the heavens! He finally started heading back in the direction of the helicopter when we spotted some stupid-looking critter just sitting there.“Hey, what is that thing?” I asked.“It appears to be a Numel, a pokemon native to this region,” he explained.“Hey, if that thing doesn’t move soon, it might die,” I said. Maxie just nodded and picked up another stick, attempting to poke the thing until it moved. It wouldn’t move, though, and eventually just fell over, wiggling its stubby feet.Maxie frowned at it. “You know,” he explained to me, “Numel are known to be notoriously dull-witted. Perhaps I should just catch it?”“Yeah, that sounds good, just whatever you do, do it quickly so we can get out of here,” I urged. With that, Maxie pulled out a pokeball and threw it, successfully capturing the Numel. He collected his pokeball and we high-tailed it back to the helicopter.Once we got back to Slateport, Maxie insisted on heading straight to his house to drop off his new rock specimens. I was alright with this because I was curious to see his place. Once we got to the door of his apartment, though, he turned back to me, looking suddenly nervous. “Um, Archie, I’ve never actually let anyone into my home before. I’ll have to ask you to please not touch or disturb anything lest it upset me.” Was he serious? Hadn’t he just rearranged things in my house not but a week earlier? Oh well, I nodded anyway. Didn’t want to make him angry. I was still feeling gloriously happy that we had lived through that whole volcano trip, so I was willing to just roll with it at this point. Maxie opened up the door and we stepped inside. It was…weird in here. There were all these glass cases full of rocks on the back shelves and everything in this room was arranged freakishly neatly at perfect 90 degree angles. There wasn't a spec of dust anywhere. Even the bed in the corner of this studio apartment looked like no one had ever slept in it and it was just some sort of floor model in a department store. No – that wasn’t right – even the floor models got slightly rumpled; this was unnaturally straight and orderly. Maxie seemed to be watching me, and he almost looked (from the expression on his face) like he realized just how weird I found this place to be. Maxie sighed and spoke, "Yes, Archie...I know it's weird in here. I'm...an odd person, and that's why I'll always live alone." He sighed and turned back to his bag of rocks, which he was carefully laying out and arranging on the dining table. I didn't really know what to say to that rather depressing statement that he made so matter-of-factly, and the awkward silence stretched out a bit until he finally spoke again: "You may sit on the bed, just don't move anything, okay?""Okay, Maxie, whatever you say..." I sat down and almost felt bad for putting wrinkles into his covers. I watched him meticulously inspect each and every rock, then place them carefully into little piles. He didn't speak and the silence seemed to stretch out forever. I couldn't stand it after awhile. "Um, Maxie," I spoke carefully, "Have you considered getting some help, maybe?"He sighed. "Archie, I've had 'help' before. I used to be much worse, so this is actually an improvement." I looked around incredulously. How could this possibly have been worse?! Maxie continued, "When I was a child, I was so overwhelmed by chaotic stimuli that I couldn't sit in a messy room for more than a few minutes before I'd start crying from it. It was terrible and kept me from going anywhere. After some extensive desensitization therapy, which was not pleasant at all, I got to where I wasn't so bothered by going to other places. However, I never could quite overcome my need for a 'safe space' for myself. So, I keep my home as my sanctuary from the world so I can recharge my metaphorical batteries after being out all day. So, believe me, this really is an improvement, but I need to keep this space for myself." I just sat there dumbfounded for a bit. He really did have some issues... He was looking at me anxiously now, no doubt waiting to see if I was freaked out by this story or not."Don't worry about it, Maxie," I soothed, "It's not that big a deal. It's not like we live together or anything, so it doesn't really matter anyways." I saw him visibly sigh in relief. He turned to face me and abruptly changed the subject, "So, Archie, did you have fun today? That was an excellent volcano, right?""Um, well, Imma be honest with you, that whole experience scared the crap outta me."Maxie frowned at me. "Really, you didn't like it?" he questioned, "I thought it was quite nice."I raised an eyebrow at him. "Um, Maxie, it's weird how you're frightened of the ocean but aren't worried at all about burning to death in lava.""Oh, well..." he stated, "I'm not too worried about it. Besides, there isn't anyone who'd really miss me even if I did die." Once again, the matter-of-fact way he said this made me uncomfortable. I didn't really know what to say to that, so I didn't say anything. Maxie didn't seem bothered by the silence, though, as he happily sorted his rocks.________________________________________________________
Maxie's POV:I focused on sorting my new rocks by type and subtype variations. I hadn't meant to tell Archie such personal things, but at least now he understood why I was a bit odd. He didn't seem too put off by it, and I was happy that it didn't bother him and wouldn't interfere with our relationship. As soon as I finished sorting my rocks, I realized what time it was."Hey Archie, are you hungry? I can make dinner if you like.""Sure, that'd be great!" He seemed really pleased by my suggestion and was even grinning at me. Maybe excessively... No, that was surely just my imagination. I got up and looked through the fridge; Archie followed me into my little kitchen area."Can I help any?" he asked."Well," I replied, "I don't have much on hand right now. I have a bit of leftover shredded chicken and two onions, which isn't much, I'm afraid. However, if I have some flour, we can make chicken and dumplings. So, if you would, please check the cabinet and see if there's any flour in there."Archie complied by opening the cabinet door and looking in. "Whoa! You really must love oatmeal, huh?" he asked."Oh, that's my oatmeal supply. I eat oatmeal every day for breakfast. Check the cabinet to the left – that's where the flour should be." He shook his head for some reason, but did as I asked, fishing out an almost-full bag of flour. Excellent, we could manage this meal now.I put a big pot of water onto boil as I worked the flour into some butter and made a dough in a large bowl. I dipped my hand into the flour, then tore off a chunk of the dough and swirled it into the pot, carefully removing my hand within a few seconds. Then, I repeated the process."WHOA! Maxie, are you sticking your bare hands into that boiling pot of water?!" Archie practically yelled at me."Hm? Oh, this? It's fine; I'm pretty resistant to high temperatures," I stated simply."Really?""Why yes," I replied, "I'm not as bothered by hotter temperatures as other people, and besides, I'm only doing it for a few seconds at a time, not really long enough to be burned." He looked a bit incredulous. "Oh, that reminds me of something," I continued, "I used to dip my fingers in water and then stick them into molten lead. I didn't get burned due to the Leidenfrost effect.""What?" he questioned. "Leidenfrost effect," I repeated, "It typically occurs when a liquid is in near contact with an item that is significantly hotter than the liquid's boiling point. When they touch, an insulating vapor layer is formed and this keeps the liquid from boiling rapidly. The water protected me from getting burned, for a few seconds anyway."He just stared and blinked at me for a few moment before saying, "Maxie, you need to get out more." I just chuckled at him; he could be really funny sometimes. We finished up our lovely dinner which was thankfully tasty enough due to the addition of a few seasonings and some butter, then I cleaned up the kitchen. Archie just sat on my bed, watching me quietly. After I finished, I sat down on the bed next to him, carefully placing a hand on his thigh. "Archie, do you think we could....I mean, do you want to...would you like to, maybe, have sex with me, here?" I asked tentatively."Well, I'd like to," he said with a smile, "but wouldn't that ruin you're perfectly made-up bed?"I smiled back at him, "It's okay! I can fix it in the morning." With that, he grabbed me and started kissing me, eventually pushing me down onto the bed. I could feel him pressing against me, and the pressure was wonderful, especially in one particular spot. I moaned into his mouth, but we had to part for air after awhile, and I wanted to be rid of these clothes now. I squirmed out from under him to start taking things off. He started stripping as well. "Hey, Maxie," he said when I'd gotten to my shoes, "could you leave those socks on?""Hmm, why?"He grinned at me and said, "So, I'll have an even harder time keeping myself from losing my load too soon? How about that?" That was such a silly notion; he really was quite funny! I kept the socks on, though, just as he'd asked. Now I was just standing there nude, sporting a happy little erection, nothing but red knee-high socks on. Archie didn't say anything, though; he just stared at me with a weird expression on his face. I noticed that he seemed to be touching himself, and squeezing the tip gently as it leaked out precum. "Maxie," he finally spoke in a slightly strained voice, "Please come over here before I lose all my self-control."I did as he asked, straddling his lap and kissing him. I reached down with one hand to stroke him; I really did like the texture. After awhile he was moaning into my mouth, and eventually he pulled my hand away. "Maxie...I don't think I can take any more. Do you think you're ready?"I nodded and replied, "Sure, that would be fine." I looked around briefly for a condom before realizing that, of course, I didn't have any.Archie seemed to understand what I was looking for as he said, "Don't worry, I got one here," and pulled out a condom from one of his pants pockets. He slid it onto himself, but then frowned. "Hey, Maxie, I don't have any lube on me."I thought for a moment before replying, "I have some hand lotion in this nightstand drawer. Will that work?""Yeah, that'd work just fine." With the lotion generously spread, he pulled me into his lap, facing outwards. I leaned back against his chest and tried to find a comfortable position where his erection wasn't poking into my backside, but he really seemed to be desperately trying to get in."Archie, please," I begged, "give me a minute.""Sorry," he whispered and stopped his over-eager assault. After that, I grasped his erection with one hand and guided it to my entrance, very slowly lowering myself down onto it. He groaned in my ear this whole time, but finally I got him all the way in. I didn't move, though, unsure exactly how to proceed in this odd sitting position. Archie hooked an arm under each of my legs and lifted, holding them up. It was a strange feeling being held like this, but Archie used the leverage to move me slightly up and down, while simultaneously using his powerful back muscles to thrust lightly. Since both of his hands were preoccupied, I reached down and gently stroked myself. Archie seemed to be watching me over my shoulder, and he moaned softly. Soon enough Archie was panting and moaning in my ear and I could tell he was close. I sped up my hand movements and soon clenched in orgasm. I was vaguely aware of Archie groaning out "Oh, Maxie..." in my ear as I rode out the high of my release. Once I'd finally caught my breath and returned to my senses afterwards, Archie released my legs and I just sat there for a bit.Suddenly a thought occurred to me. "Um, Archie? Did you cum already?"He sighed happily before answering, "Oh, hell yes, I most definitely did."After that, we slept the night in my bed. I woke up much too early, though, as I usually did. I wasn't sure what time it was, but I didn't get up to check because I was feeling too happy to move. It was so strange... I thought no one would ever get to enter my home, much less sleep in my bed with me, yet here it was happening. It felt...nice. Oh, but... Always that "but" - that nagging doubt in my mind. Archie was being so sweet with me now, but he really didn't seem like the type who liked long-term relationships. After all, look at the website I'd found him on. Besides, I didn't even know his last name. I guess it doesn't matter since I'm sure this fling will end soon. I'd be graduating in just a couple months, and then I'd have to take a good job and probably move away. Or perhaps Archie would graduate at the end of this semester, too, and move somewhere else. Even if we didn't move away from each other, we'd never be able to work it out in a proper relationship. I was just too difficult to live with, and it probably would all end in heartbreak if we tried to be traditional partners. Either way, this wasn't really meant to be. I didn't let that thought make me sad, though, because I am a rational, objective person. If I was alone and content before I met him, then that was a sum of zero lovers. Then he came along, and that was one, but if he left again, I'd be back to zero. No overall change at the end of the day, so no harm done, right? Besides, I'd have some happy memories to look back on, and that was good enough. I closed my eyes and attempted to calm my thoughts enough to drift back to sleep again...I blinked my eyes open again as Archie stirred against me. I could tell by the light peeking out behind the curtains that it was definitely some time in the morning now. It was bright enough in here to read the clock on the wall, which told me that it was 9:04am."Good mornin'," Archie said sleepily, kissing the side of my neck. I squirmed away from his tickly beard. He just laughed at me, seemingly amused, and attempted to do it again until I escaped by getting out of bed. Now that that foolishness was over, I convinced Archie that we should both take a shower and get cleaned up before breakfast.Archie invited himself into my shower with me instead of waiting his turn. "Hey, Maxie," he said as he pointed at my soaps, "is this the reason you always smell so good?""Hm? Oh, those are my cinnamon soaps. You may wish to avoid using them, since some people are sensitive to cinnamon and break out in rashes after using cinnamon soap.""Ooh, that doesn't sound nice," he responded, "so even though you smell super pretty, I guess I'd better not touch those." Archie contented himself with just using plain water to rinse himself off while I lathered myself with my own bar of soap. Once finished, I shampooed my hair and rinsed myself off in the hot water. Then something poked into my side. What was that? I had a feeling I knew... I looked down and indeed, Archie had another erection."Oh, really, Archie, come on! You couldn't possibly want to go again so soon."" I said in exasperation. He grinned at me. "I can't help it, Maxie – the little guy has a mind of his own! You're right, though, I don't think I can cum again right now."I frowned at him before saying, "Told you so. By the way, that thing isn't 'little' at all, so put it away before you poke someone's eye out."Archie just laughed at me and attempted to poke me again, so I quickly exited the shower and left him alone.Never mind him, I'll just make some breakfast. By the time Archie had gotten out of the shower, I had already made myself a bowl of oatmeal. "Do you want any oatmeal?" I offered."Nah," he replied, "I don't really like oatmeal myself. Do you have any eggs?""Yes, bottom shelf in the fridge," I said as I pointed. He then proceeded to fish out some eggs. along with a frying pan and spatula. I winced as he splashed greasy butter everywhere while he fried the eggs. Ugh, the mess this man seems to bring with him everywhere is truly atrocious. Eventually he stopped destroying my pristinely clean kitchen and sat down at the table to eat with me. Archie grinned at me while eating his eggs; I really didn't know what he was finding so funny. I had been thinking, though, about the time we spent on the beach and my inordinate fear of drowning. "Hey, Archie, do you think I could overcome my fear of drowning if I just got used to the feeling of drowning?"He looked up at me with a puzzled expression. "Maxie, that's not normal. No one likes drowning or gets used to the feeling of it.""Well, then," I huffed, "how exactly am I supposed to get over my fear of drowning?""Well, you can come out with me next weekend on my boat and get used to the water. Then, maybe you wouldn't be so afraid of it."I rubbed my chin in thought. "I think I should try jumping into the water and actually drowning. You can fish me out before I die," I replied.Archie quirked an eyebrow at me. "Maxie, that's a terrible idea. Also, do you honestly think you'd have the willpower to force yourself to jump off my boat and into the water? Do you really?""Hmm...well, why don't you push me off instead? That'd work great!"Archie sighed loudly. "No, I'm not going to do that. I can just imagine explaining this to the police later: 'why yes, officer, this man who can't swim totally told me to push him off the boat and watch him drown for awhile. Why yes, officer, I am a certified lifeguard – what of it?' Yeah, that's a terrible idea; just come out with me next weekend and we'll go fishing and you can just get used to the ocean in a sensible way, okay?""Alright, fine then," I agreed after glaring at him for a bit. I guess I'll try things his way. After breakfast, I shooed him out the door so I could finally clean up my place and get some more work done on my dissertation. That graduation deadline was ever fast-approaching, and it wouldn't do to slack off. When Monday came, I spent my lunch with Tabitha as per usual. He was still a fair ways away from his own graduation date, so he wasn't nearly as nervous as I was, but he was still trying to be supportive. He really was a very good friend, after all. "Hey, Maxie," he said offhandedly, "I saw you walking around town the other week with some buff-looking surfer-guy. Who was that?""O-oh, well..." I stammered, as I felt my face flush red."Oh, you don't have to be so embarrassed about it," Tabitha said in a teasing voice, "I think it's great that you're actually dating someone. I mean, when you lied to me before about dating anyone, I didn't actually think you were really telling the truth!""Tabitha!" I scolded, "That last statement you made doesn't make any sense, and also, we are not really dating. It's just a casual fling, and I don't really expect it to last long."Tabitha shot me a quizzical look. "You don't really strike me as the casual sex sort of person," he said incredulously."Excuse me," I huffed, suddenly standing up and waving my finger in his face, "but I have a medical disorder-""Being gay isn't a medical disorder," Tabitha cut me off mid-sentence."NO! Listen!" I practically yelled as I waved my hands angrily in the air, "I have chronic insomnia and I can only manage to sleep all the way through the night after having sex with that man!"Tabitha didn't seem particularly convinced. "Maxie, please sit down," he said, "people are staring at us." I glanced around, and indeed, I was getting some pretty weird looks, so I quickly sat back down and pretended to be fascinated with the cafeteria's spaghetti. "It’s okay, Maxie - it’s alright that you’re gay," Tabitha said soothingly, "Lots of great people are gay, like that gym leader guy, Wallace. I don’t feel any differently about you – you don’t have to make up weird excuses about it. I’m happy that you’re finally having some fun, so just enjoy yourself.” I really did feel slightly foolish at my outburst now, but I was grateful that Tabitha was such a good friend.“…do you want to hear about the lovely, passionate times we’ve had together?” I asked sheepishly.“Not really, sorry - best you keep those personal details to yourself,” Tabitha replied with a chuckle.“Okay, then,” I agreed before I changed the subject to more neutral topics for the remainder of our lunch. The rest of the week passed without incident. I studied endlessly and didn't do much else before the weekend came. I had promised Archie I would go out on his boat with him, but the thought of it frightened me. Still, a promise was a promise, and I would do it for the sake of pleasing him. Besides, I also wanted to get over my fear, if only a little bit. I imagined it'd be okay if I just pretended the boat was a building and there wasn't really an ocean surrounding us. I hoped I wouldn't get seasick.________________________________________________________
Archie's POV:My favorite little nerd showed up to my docked boat dressed exactly the same way he was for our beach trip. He had a look of clear apprehension on his face, and I wondered if I'd even be able to get him onto my little boat. I hoped I'd be able to convince him, because I had exactly one bed in the cabin, and I was hoping he'd help me fill it.He approached me hesitantly."Hey, Maxie, good to see you!" I greeted. He returned my greeting but kept eyeing the boat nervously. I gently guided him by the hand over the pier and down to the entrance. There was a tiny gap to jump over to get onto the boat, and he seemed hesitant to cross it. I grabbed his hand and made the small jump myself, and he sucked in a breath and clenched his jaw before making the tiny leap over. "See, now, that wasn't so bad," I said."Yeah, I guess not," he replied shakily. He suddenly hugged me tight for a minute, and I just held him and stroked his hair so he would feel more at ease. After he finally released me he went and sat down in a small deck chair."Hey, Maxie, if it's okay with you, I'm going to bring us further out to sea. It's a beautiful day for fishing, and I'd hate to miss it."He nodded. "Yes, of course, that'd be fine," he said, but his voice sounded slightly strained. Poor Maxie, he must've been using all of his willpower to just remain calm and pretend to be normal about this whole thing. Hopefully he'd have fun at the end of the day and realize the ocean wasn't such a bad place.I took us out to a spot that wasn't too far out – we could just barely make out the shoreline, but it was nice and secluded since there weren't any other boats out here right now. It was a good spot to drop anchor and do some fishing. I walked back onto the deck and Maxie was still sitting in that same chair; one hand was clenched in his lap while the other had a death grip on the chair's arm. The knuckles on both of his hands were turning white from being clenched so tightly."Maxie? Hey, are you okay?""Why, yes, I'm fine," he said through gritted teeth and a smile that looked more like a grimace of pain."Uh, well, alright," I replied, "I'm going to do some fishing now. Do you wanna join me?""No, thank you, I'm quite happy right here," Maxie said, his expression remaining unchanged. I could tell he wasn't too happy being out here, but maybe he'd feel better if I just acted normal. Then he would see that there wasn't anything to fear. I went and got my fishing rod and cast it out to sea. Fishing required a fair bit of patience, as you could stand there forever before getting any bites, and, indeed, it was about an hour before I felt anything pulling on my line. I tugged at it and reeling it in, but whatever had been on there was gone. I sighed and cast again. Maxie was still sitting in that chair, completely unmoved, but his expression of crazed fear had softened to one of just moderate anxiety."You okay over there? You're not bored or anything, are you?" I asked."No, I'm fine. This is riveting, truly," he answered in a monotone voice, and I couldn't quite tell if he was being sarcastic or not. Sometimes it was difficult to know with him...We breaked for a bit of lunch and then I continued fishing for several more hours. I wasn't really having much luck until suddenly, something firmly yanked on the line. I grabbed the rod and pulled back hard, reeling in whatever this was. Finally, I pulled it out of the water - it was a Carvahna! It flopped onto the deck and angrily banged itself against the railing. Maxie had jumped up and was skittering out of the way by the time I'd managed to pull a pokeball out of my pocket. I threw it and luckily caught the beast before it could do any damage. Yes! The day wasn't wasted after all. I looked around afterwards for Maxie, and he seemed to be half-hiding in the doorway to the cabin."Hey, Maxie! Did you see that? It was awesome!" I exclaimed, looking at him over my shoulder."Yes, indeed it was," he said with a slight tremor to his voice."Ah, what's wrong? You seem like you're still kinda on edge," I said as I approached him."Sorry, Archie, but I'm still rather nervous being out in this place..."I pulled him into a hug and he buried his face in my chest. "Hey, would you like to do something to take your mind off of it?" I asked with a bit of a smirk."Oh," he replied, rolling his eyes, "You just want to sex me up. Well, I suppose I'd be fine with that – you always do make me feel so good..."I didn't need anymore invitation than that. I guided him to the bed while I kissed that soft mouth. Maxie didn't complain and soon we were stripping down to nothing. I pinned him down on his back, holding his hips firmly in place as I sucked on his length. He still smelled of cinnamon down here, and I couldn't help but suck more vigorously due to the intoxicating smell. Soon he was trembling and whimpering and struggling against my hands, and I had to deliberately stop myself from continuing even though I yearned to hear him cry out in release. Once I'd released him, he reached up and stroked my cock with his soft hands, paying special attention to the tip. He smiled to himself, seemingly amused at the torrent of precum that was dripping out."Maxie, that's enough," I said as I eventually had to stop him."Oh, that's too bad. I was having fun playing with you – you're so drippy for some reason," he said with a smirk."That's because I'm about to burst," I replied with a groan, "so if you would please roll over for me?"He thankfully did as I asked and rolled onto his side, facing away from me. From this angle, I could see his cute little ass, just begging to be penetrated. I very quickly got a condom on and got all lubed up, ready to take my prize. I parted his cheeks and admired his pretty little pink asshole, which was currently clenching slightly. That sight was driving me over the edge – I couldn't wait any longer so I pushed in as slowly as I could manage. Maxie whimpered and trembled against me, but I didn't stop until I was fully seated. I gripped his hip with one hand and pushed slowly in and out. I timed my thrusts to rock slowly with the rhythm of the waves, and Maxie moaned and clenched around me as he stroked himself. I watched those pretty hands squeeze and caress that pink tip, and the very sight of it was turning me on so badly... Finally I could take no more and I sped up my pace, crying out as I came. Maxie wasn't far behind as he cried out rather softly in his release. We panted for a few minutes afterwards, and I slowly pulled out, disposing of the condom. I knew that we should probably attempt to get cleaned up, but I was feeling too content to move. Maxie even seemed to be drifting off to sleep, so I certainly didn't want to wake him. I hugged my little nerd close to me and let sleep take me.
Suddenly I was jostled awake by a crash and a heaving of the boat. The wind seemed to whipping around outside, and the previously blue sunny skies had turned into a stormy night. The boat was rocking from side to side, and I could see the occasional flash of lightning followed by the booming of thunder. I looked down to check on Maxie, and he definitely wasn't asleep anymore. His hand was gripping the edge of the bed, and he looked seriously unnerved."Don't worry now; it's just a bit of a storm," I soothed."What should we do?" came his shaky reply."There's not really much we can do. It's a bit too dangerous to move, so it's best that we just ride it out." He didn't look too enthused at that answer, but he didn't say anything. He squeaked and buried his face in my chest as another wave hit the boat. Truthfully, this storm wasn't nearly as bad as ones I'd been in previously, but it clearly was scaring Maxie as he clung to me and whimpered. Unfortunately, the storm continued for another couple of hours, and eventually Maxie was crying against my chest. I soothed him and stroked his hair as I tried to get him to calm down. I knew we'd be fine, but my reassurances weren't really having an effect on him. Finally, after a couple more hours, he'd cried himself to sleep against me. By the time the storm had passed, and I'd managed to navigate us back to shore, Maxie was looking pretty frazzled. This wasn't at all the nice fishing trip I'd had in mind. I'd really hoped this would be the experience to make Maxie feel better about the ocean, but I didn't think that was going to happen now. Still, by the time we were disembarking, Maxie had managed to compose himself and was giving me a civil 'goodnight' before heading home.________________________________________________________
Maxie's POV:That boat trip was distinctly horrible. I just could not understand how Archie loved the ocean so much when it was clearly a death trap waiting to happen. Still, he did make me (mostly) happy, so I continued to visit him; I just refused anymore visits to the ocean after that.We met every weekend for the next few weeks, and we had our fun together, but I knew that the end of the semester was fast approaching. I wasn't looking forward to it, because I knew I'd have to say goodbye. I'd already been offered a lovely position as an assistant professor in another city due to my superior academic progress, and I couldn't afford to let the opportunity pass. I imagined that Archie must've realized what was happening, because he seemed more and more aloof as the semester was drawing to a close. Finally, our last day together had come. I'd finished my dissertation and defense, and had gotten my degree as expected. Now, I was busy packing up my belongings in preparation for the move. I'd already told Archie I was leaving, and he had promised to visit me one last time today before I left. He implicitly seemed to understand that this would be the end of our strange little relationship. In truth, I was feeling a bit sad about it, but I knew that it really had to end this way. We couldn't possibly keep up a relationship of this sort in the long term. Archie would eventually grow older and more mature and get tired of this whole "casual sex friend" thing, and he'd want a real partner – someone to live with and possibly raise a family with, and I just wasn't that person. It's not that I wouldn't like to be that person, but although we often had fun together, I couldn't imagine that we wouldn't kill each other if we tried to live together in the long-term. We just weren't suited for each other, and that was that.A knocking at my door shook me from my thoughts. That must be Archie. I opened up the door, but it wasn't him. Instead, Tabitha was standing there, looking a bit sad. "Maxie, I'm going to miss you," he said, his bottom lip puckering into a frown. He still had a year left before he graduated with his bachelor's degree, and this would be our goodbye as well."It's alright now," I soothed, "Once you finish up here, you can transfer to my new town for your Ph.D. I'll even offer you a job, if I can."He nodded. "Yeah, Maxie, that sounds like a great idea. I always learned more from you than I ever did any of my professors, anyways." We spent the next couple hours talking as he helped me pack my things, and eventually as the afternoon turned into night, Tabitha said his goodbyes and left.Still no sign of Archie...maybe he'd forgotten about me? Or maybe he didn't feel like showing up? Maybe he didn't care to show up... Just as my thoughts were turning negative and gloomy, I heard another knock at the door. I opened it, and it was Archie! He looked rather sheepish. "Sorry I'm so late," he said, "but I was busy getting you a bit of a parting gift." He held out a box, and I took it. Judging from the picture on it, it seemed to be some sort of model ship. He grinned at me. "It's a model boat – I figured you might like building it since you like tedious stuff.""Oh, well, thank you," I replied. Humph. I'd have him know that none of my fascinating interests were tedious. Archie just sort of eyed me awkwardly, and I wasn't sure what to say either. Finally, he spoke, "Um, Maxie, well...I'm going to miss you. I mean, I know it's really for the best and all – long distance relationships always suck, and well, I'm not really the type to settle down with one person, and you know that, and well..." He finished his rambling and trailed off. He was obviously uncomfortable with this whole thing, so I tried to say something to make it better."Well, Archie, I understand how you feel. I'm glad we got to spend this time together, though. It's been fun, but I guess this is goodbye. You're a very handsome man, so I'm sure you'll find someone else to have fun with in the future." He just looked at me strangely after that, and I couldn't tell what he was thinking or feeling. Suddenly, he pulled me close and jammed his mouth against mine, kissing me passionately. I kissed him back, unsure of what else to do. Finally, he pulled away, looking almost embarrassed. I waited for him to speak."Um, Maxie, I don't normally do this...but I want you to have this, too." He pulled off his ring and handed it to me."Oh, are you sure?" I questioned."Yeah, take it," he replied. I didn't bother to tell him that I couldn't wear rings because I couldn't stand the way they felt on my fingers, but it didn't really matter anyways since this one was far too big for me. I felt a bit awkward now since I hadn't prepared any gifts for him in return."Archie, I'm sorry I didn't get you a gift. I didn't know we were supposed to be getting gifts, but I can give you this." I pulled a stone out of my pocket and handed it to him. "It's a key stone. I found it on one of my recent expeditions up to the mountains. I found two so you can have this one," I explained."Thanks, Maxie," he said as he pulled me into another hug. Then we said our goodbyes and he hugged me one last time and kissed me on the cheek before leaving. I felt strangely hollow inside as I watched him depart into the night.__________________________________________________Aw, bit of a sad ending there!
