**Installment 3**
Caellia took an alleyway going towards the north end of town, the incident with the mystic long forgotten. She wasn’t paying much attention to where she was going since she had traveled this alleyway many times before, so when she bumped into someone it was quite a shock as she stumbled backwards from the force of the impact. Looking up, and up some more, she saw the tattooed face of a tyrant. She muttered a curt “Excuse me.” Before continuing on her way.
He just looked at her then grabbed her elbow tightly, causing her to whip back around to face him from her own forward momentum. “Where is the Princess?” He growled. “We know she is here we have been instructed to give her a message from Nathavin.”
“So you are requesting an audience with the Princess?” Queried Caellia, stunned. “I will pass the message along to her. I’m her chief guard, what is it?” That was not quite the truth. A temple knight was her chief guard along with Einao, who was her second head guard. She sighed to herself, she was nothing if not curious. They are asking to see me, wonder what it’s about.
The tyrant looked at her intently for a second before growling out, “Follow me.” The plan was working perfectly. He led her to an abandoned part of the city then pointed to a dark doorway, “In there.”
Caellia, although very much a risk taker, was no fool. She had no intention of going in there with no back up. Turning to question the orc, she let out a small scream of surprise when a hand came from behind her and covered her mouth and effectively prevented anyone from hearing the scream. A second hand wrapped itself around her torso and began to pull her into the dark building. She struggled for all she was worth, using her bow to try to keep herself from being pulled completely into the building.
The orc looked at the bow, it was horizontal to the doorframe and since it was wider, it was not going through the door. Giving the elf a hard glare he grabbed both ends and bent it alarmingly far. The bow groaned and shivered under the immense pressure before finally squeezing past the door and springing back to its original shape. Once they were inside he snatched the bow out of her hands.
Naldorl looked at the orc thankfully before binding her arms together behind her back. He had to let go of her mouth to bind her hands, a rather unfortunate predicament he thought.
“Release me at once!” Caellia hissed frantically. She slammed her head backward, hoping to catch whoever was holding her on the chin and knock them away from her. She kicked her legs out, putting all of her weight on her unknown assailant, forcing him to take a few steps back. She tried it again, but this time he was ready for her and pushed back, forcing her feet back to the ground. She was all set to try another tactic when a smooth, silky voice began to speak.
“Is that any way to treat our guest Naldorl?” Nathavin spoke softly. “Surely we could be more hospitable than that. Release the young girl. It would be a shame to leave bruises on her.” He walked forward slowly, coming into the light. His eyes never left Caellia’s as he watched her closely for any hint of an attack.
“This is the one that defeated me brother.” Naldorl spat.
“I can see why. She has much spirit.” Nathavin strolled casually around her, taking in all details as she stood there quietly. He leaned closer to her when he was completely behind her, “Your hair shines in the candlelight. Did you know that?”
She was well and truly afraid of this person. He was far more skilled than her and she could easily see it in his choice of armor. The candlelight played with strikingly majestic colors of white and gold that was his armor. His gray eyes were cold and calculating as he crossed behind her field of vision. “Get away from me demon spawn!” Caellia snarled as he came behind her. She tensed with uncontrollable fear, she hated her reaction, but the aura around this elf just radiated power. He would be formidable foe on the battlefield and she secretly hoped she would never meet him there. Gathering her courage and strictly controlling her voice she asked, “Your orc informed me that you had a message to deliver to our Princess. Give me the message and I will relay it to her.” She had to get out of here.
“Now, don’t be in such a rush to leave.” His silken voice breathed. “I would like to spend more time with you. It isn’t very often I get to spend time with a lovely warrior such as yourself.” He came back in front of her, and looked down at the scar on her abdomen. “What happened here?” As he attempted to feel along the scar Caellia reacted out of pure instinct and slapped him.
“Don’t touch me!” She was livid. How dare he try to lay a hand on her? Her voice trembled with fury, “Don’t ever attempt to lay your hands on the Royal Guard of the Princess. You forfeit your life in doing so.”
Nathavin raised one hand to prevent his brother and the orc from killing the silver ranger. “You have much spirit little one.” His voice was stronger than before, no more a mere whisper. “Our proposition is this. Princess Caellia agrees to become my queen and I will protect the ancestral lands of the Light Elves as my own. She will arrange for Goryn to step down as the king of Oren and I will take his place.”
Caellia all but stopped listening the moment he said ‘my queen’. She stared in horror at who could only be Nathavin. She only dimly heard the rest of his statement as her terror stricken mind wrapped around the fact that this was Lord Nathavin, the dark one that was looking for her. And she was standing in front of him! She absolutely had to get out of here and fast!
Nathavin narrowed his eyes at her near blank look. What was wrong with her? She had been so feisty before, so what happened to change that in the blink of an eye? He thought back to his statement, he didn’t see anything in it that would cause this type of shock. Surely they must have suspected something along these lines. He could’ve outright taken Oren Castle on his own. He just wished to take it in the most humiliating way possible for both Goryn and Caellia. A siege just somehow wouldn’t be humiliating enough, although he wouldn’t shy away from one if it became necessary. He snapped his fingers in front of her eyes, “Girl! Look at me!”
Her eyes snapped back to his, she vaguely remembered that she was supposed to deliver this message to ‘her princess’. She nodded her head at him and in a shaky voice replied, “I will deliver this message to the princess immediately.”
His narrowed gaze watched her intently for moment. Did she just stumble when saying ‘the princess’? It was almost as if she wasn’t used to saying that particular phrase. He shook it off, “Let her go, and give her the weapon back. I’m sure she’ll have use of it fairly soon.” Leaning close to her one more time he whispered softly, “We will meet again Silver Ranger, and when we do…” He let the rest of his sentence trail off, letting her imagination fill in the blank. Smirking at her expression he turned his back on her and walked back into the shadowy recesses of the room.
“Out.” The tyrant said glaring daggers at her. He shoved the bow in her hands and pushed her out the door roughly.
Caellia wasted no time and sprinted back to the main square of town. She had to gather her forces and leave now! It was not safe here any longer.

They were on their way; Caellia was flanked by Einao and Nalia. Nalia was an experienced temple knight and was quite humorous to be around. However, get her angry and stand back. Caellia had sparred with her a few times and was personally glad she was their side. They had picked up a few humans on their trip through Giran. A human mystic, a prophet, and a human knight a dark avenger if Caellia remembered right. The trip to Oren castle would take a few days time due to the slower traveling abilities of the humans.
Nalia watched her friend for a moment before swatting Caellia with her swords. “You’ve been moody ever since we left Giran. What’s wrong?”
Caellia braced herself for the impact of the swords before arching her eyebrow and scoring a direct hit on Nalia’s shield. “I’m fine, just a little…nervous, that’s all.” She hadn’t told anyone that she had met Lord Nathavin. Let alone met him in an abandoned building alone, she could just hear all the scolding she would get. She would be locked in a tower and never let outside if they knew just how much danger she had put herself in. And she had put herself in that danger knowingly.
Nalia pulled Caellia back and let Einao get farther ahead of them, “Caellia. What is wrong?” She looked seriously at her friend. “I, we, need to know what happened in Giran.” She nodded her head, her braids bobbing with the motion, “Yes, we know something happened. You need to tell us.”
“It’s nothing really, I just had a bad run in with an orc and two of our dark brethren and it was unnerving. I’m fine, really.”
Nalia wasn’t convinced and said so. “Caellia, please, I’m begging you as a friend and as your guard. What happened?”
Caellia sighed and related the events that took place in the building, leaving out the fact that it was Nathavin she had met. Nalia listened with shock. If there was a phantom ranger that powerful, Caellia didn’t stand a chance against him alone. She would have to be guarded extra closely from here on out until they reached Oren.
“Einao, come here please.” Nalia called. She retold Caellia’s story and made extra guard arrangements for Caellia. Einao took her orders and swiftly carried them out. “We will stop here and camp for the night.” Nalia commanded.
Caellia looked at her askance before she commented dryly, “But it isn’t dark yet. We can still travel a little longer.”
Nalia gave her friend a hard look, “You are under my protection, and protect you I will. But I will do it as I see fit, Princess.” She paid particular attention to the emphasis she tacked onto ‘Princess’.
Caellia glared back at Nalia, “I wish to travel longer. You forget that I am a silver ranger as well as a Princess.”
“You are our Princess first Caellia, silver ranger second. Or have you forgotten that? I haven’t and I never will.” Nalia snapped back. “We camp here and that’s final. I’m sorry, but my word outweighs yours under these circumstances.” She watched as Caellia stalked away and took her frustrations out on some poor beast that didn’t deserve to die in such a manner. “Was she always this difficult?” Einao had come up behind her and if anyone would know the answer to that question it would be him. She wasn’t thrilled with his one word answer.
“Yes.” He watched Caellia slaughter the beasts for a few seconds before turning to Nalia. “The preparations have been finished and I’ve already told the groups to prepare for camp.”
“Good, now if we can just get Caellia to stay in line and not wander off all will be good for the night.” Nalia rubbed her forehead wearily. Caellia was a dear friend, but she was as stubborn as they came.
