Part 31 - "Murmers Of The Desert"

He gently lowered Navi onto his chest so she could continue resting in peace. At that very moment, he simply desired rest. Sleep quickly took hold of him.
"Come on, sleepy! Get up, Link!" He heard in a commanding but friendly tone, Link quickly opening his eyes, mumbling out "I'm up, I'm up!" He shut his eyes once more, the sun straining his eyes. He gasped out in mild shock, raising a hand to his face as he sat up. "I woke up around thirty minutes ago..." He heard Navi say. Link sighed, ssaying "So you just decided to wake me up?" Navi floated near Link's face, quietly saying "I wanted to start the day...Sorry..." Link smiled, lowering his hand. He opened his eyes a bit. "It's okay, Navi..." Navi was silent for a moment. Link saw her slowly float closer to his nose. She kissed him softly, Link able to feel something very small press to his skin. She floated down a little bit more, coming closer to his throat. She spread her arms wide, coming against him. Link closed his eyes, still smiling a little. He raised his hand, lightly pressing the tips of his index and middle fingers to her back. They kept hugging for a little bit, around a few minutes. Finally Link lowered his hand, Navi slowly floating away from him. "You want to go to the Gerudo Fortress to see Nabooru, right?" She asked. Link nodded. "Well then, let's go!" She said. Link smiled, standing up. He began to make his way towards the massive bridge in the distance, walking along quickly.
Within around fourty minutes, Link had reached the massive bridge, the roar of the main waterfall to his right, the din of several more far beneath the bridge, down in the valley. He walked across it quickly, walking past the permanently set up tent of the carpenter men. The leader of them stood by it, his hands crossed over on his chest as usual. He nodded at Link in a gruff but friendly way as a greeting, Link quickly waving back at him. Link kept moving, finally making his way along a path to the Fortress. He could hear the Gerudo women walk along the ground as he walked by the large staircase near the entrance. He walked up it, deciding not to go past it on the path near the Haunted Wasteland. Several weapons were suddenly thrust in his direction, keen eyes staring at him. Many of them suddenly realized who he was, recognizing Link. They raised their weapons, waving at him, slightly embarrassed with their hasty actions. The rest kept looking at him for a moment, keeping their weapons pointed at him. "Hey, it's Link! Cut it out! He's welcome here!" A voice suddenly shouted out, almost angrily.
Link looked around for the voice's owner. He suddenly saw Nabooru nearby. She was wearing loose white pants, giving off a rather baggy appearance. She wore a cloth around her chest, covering her breasts, the cloth being decorated with several pretty colours. Her shoes were light red, but not fully pink. She wore white gloves, covering her entire forearms and hands, but leaving her fingers uncovered. She wore many jewelled rings, at least one on each finger. A large jewel rested on her skin on her upper chest, near the bottom of her throat. She wore a tight-fitting golden necklace, going around her throat from the bottom of her neck to near the the bottom of her jaw. She also wore the same type of jewellery around her ankles. A thin piece of gold showed that the jewel on her chest was connected to her necklace. She wore something around her waist like a belt, but it was surely jewellery, a small red gem visible in the cord of golden and black metal around her skin, the gem located near the bottom of her visible tummy. She had a beautiful orange jewel on her forehead, resting on her skin lightly. She wore golden earrings, a light orange jewel set into each one.
Her amber eyes were complimented by her lovely light yellow eyeshadow. She was wearing pure white lipstick. Her fiery red hair was tied back in a long, elegant ponytail, a large red jewel standing out where her hair was tied. Obviously her hairclip was jewelled, as well. The Gerudo women instantly raised their weapons. Link smiled and waved at her. "Hey, Nabooru!" He said. He thought she looked absolutely stunning in her outfit. Nabooru quickly walked over to him, smiling. She grabbed him in a tight hug. "It's been too long, Link...Well....Maybe only a week or two....But it feels like one hundred years have passed!..." Link smiled, closing his eyes and hugging her back, placing his hands on her lower back, on her bare skin. "Sorry...I was busy with a lot of other things...I wanted to see you though, I missed you..." Nabooru blushed faintly. They kept hugging, some of the Gerudo women nearby growing a little embarrassed with just standing there watching, leaving and resuming their patrol. Nabooru released Link, saying "Follow me, I want to show you something! Trust me, it'll be great!" Link smiled, opening his eyes. He nodded. "Okay. Lead the way!" He said. Nabooru smiled happily, taking Link's hand in her own as she walked with him. She guided him over to a passageway into the Fortress, the two of them walking within.
As they walked through a few sandstone hallways, Link said "So, what have you been doing lately?" Nabooru looked at him, her eyes widening slightly in surprise. She wasn't expecting the question. "Oh, I've just been keeping things running around here, you know...Stuff like that." She said. Link nodded faintly. She looked at him with a smile. She stopped walking. They were just about to go up a long ramp in the hallway. Link looked at her. Nabooru turned to face him a little more, placing her hand on his hip. Link smiled lightly, gazing into her eyes. Nabooru kept looking back into his, quickly bringing her face closer to his, closing her eyes. Link closed his eyes, feeling Nabooru lean her face up slightly and press her lips to his. Link kissed her back, catching a light and soft scent about her. He realized she was wearing a little bit of perfume. They began to kiss with a little more feeling, desire growing within the two of them. Nabooru slipped her arm around his hip, resting it on his lower back. They were suddenly interrupted by the sounds of footsteps approaching.
Nabooru gasped lightly, stepping back from Link quickly. They looked down the hallway, seeing a Gerudo guard walk by. She glanced at them for a moment and kept walking. Nabooru blushed lightly. "...If it's taboo, then why does everyone do it? I mean, come on, you may be Gerudo, but you're still women. If you like a guy, you're going to want him. There's no men in the Gerudo, so....Huh? I don't really get it...People know that Gerudo take boyfriends from the outside, so why is it....? Huh?" Nabooru smiled. "Gerudo women still see outsider men, but they mostly keep it secret. Nobody really knows about anybody else's relationships. If a relationship comes out in the open, that woman usually ends up being avoided by the rest of the women. I think it all comes from the reputation we have, you know, about being strong and fierce women who don't need the help of any other people. It's hard to explain, I really can't put it all in words. It's almost like a sign of weakness for one of us to be with a man on the outside. Sure, everyone knows that everyone does it, it's no real secret that we see men from the outside, but nobody wants to openly admit it because it just seems strange."
She looked to the side. "I really can't explain it..." Link nodded. "Hmm...How do you feel about it?" Nabooru blushed. "Frankly, I find it all a little pathetic. We Gerudo have been doing the same thing for ages now, there's no reason for it to be strange or taboo. If a girl likes a guy, she should go after him, not deny herself her desires because he's from another race. Besides, it's not like we have much of a choice, I mean, a male is born within the Gerudo once every one hundred years. We have to see men from the outside before we can even get that one male anyway, and even then, what is he going to do, sleep with every Gerudo woman there is? I think that if you've found love you shouldn't care what other people think, you should openly go for him, even if he's from another race..." She looked into his eyes from the corner of her own, still blushing. Link smiled a little, blushing faintly. "You're special to me, but I'd prefer if nobody knew about it...If people knew, I can only imagine what would happen...Morale would most likely sink, because people will think that their leader is weak and needs a man to openly support her. Because they think I'm weak, someone might try to overthrow me. And if I'm overthrown, I can assure you, I will have to quickly leave the Gerudo forever, because if I stay I'll most likely be sentenced to banishment within the Haunted Wasteland by the new leader. I may be overreacting, but...Best to be on the safe side, hmm?"
Link nodded. He felt a bit sad inside over Nabooru desiring nobody to know about her affection for him, but he understood her reasons. Nabooru stepped closer to him, still blushing. As she stepped closer to him, she began looking up into his eyes as she was a little bit shorter than him. "I said it before, but that was in the heat of passion...You might've thought that it was simply the pleasure talking...But don't get me wrong, Link...I love you..." Link smiled a little. Nabooru came closer to him, resting her face against his chest. "I don't want you to feel bad over me not wanting to tell people...You understand why I don't want anyone to know, right?..." Link gasped lightly. They were atop a huge cliff, part of the cliff that the very Fortress itself was built into. Looking down, Link could see the entire Fortress, many Gerudo women looking like small specks of colour from that high up. Link felt a soft desert wind blow over the clifftop from the Haunted Wasteland, and he thought he could hear someone whisper his name, but he figured it was just a trick of his mind caused by the Wasteland wind. He could faintly see the Spirit Temple from that high up, and to his left, he could see the green of Hyrule Field. He grinned. Nabooru watched his reaction, smiling happily. He let Nabooru hold him silently for a few moments before turning around. Nabooru released him, looking up into his face. Link pulled her closer to him, Nabooru letting the front of her face touch the chest of his tunic.
