Nalia let loose a frustrated sigh as yet another dark elven sentry crossed the path she intended on traveling to their abyssal caverns. She, along with five other elven fighters, had been sent to rescue Caellia from Nathavin once they reached the dark elf homeland. She had decided to split them up to better their chances of sneaking in unobserved. However this was looking like a bad decision on her part. She had not counted on so many sentries to be patrolling the barren lands.
The lands themselves were a problem too. They were so depleted and dead there was hardly anything to hide behind. The few places there was to hide were scattered few and far between with long stretches of open plain filled with sentries. A highly dangerous situation for any attacking force and she had ordered her group to split up, placing them in even more danger. Nalia shook her head. She mustn’t dwell on that now. Her goal was to get inside the dark elven cavern and hide until Caellia reached them. Then she would rescue her Queen and friend.

“You wished to see me Hontas?” Inquired Asterios politely. Asterios looked the human over curiously, puzzled at his nervous disposition. Hontas was nervously wringing his royal blue robes between his hands.
“Y-y-yes,” stammered Hontas, “I would like to speak with you regarding the present situation.”
“Present situation?” Asterios questioned with raised eyebrows. “What makes you believe there is a ‘situation’ to be discussed?” He wouldn’t have thought it possible, but the human became even more nervous and began to shift his weight from foot to foot.
“I-I have heard of the plight your Princess is in…and…and I would like to offer my help.” Hontas swallowed nervously. He did not want to do this, the elves had been nothing but kind to him since his arrival several days ago. However, if he did not do this Asadar would have him killed.
“I thank you for your kind offer Hontas, but we have already made arrangements for assistance.” Asterios shrewdly watched Hontas for his reaction to that statement.
“I-I see. Perhaps I could still be useful however to you? I am a bishop and quite skilled in my trade. I studied under the finest masters…” He broke off as Asterios politely interrupted him.
“I’m sure you are quite skilled Hontas, but we have no need of your services. Perhaps…”
“Please sir! Allow me to stay!” Hontas licked his lips in fear. He could not go back to Asadar without information! He would surely be killed if he did so!
Asterios looked on in slight shock. Why was the human so insistent upon staying at the village? “Alright Hontas, you may stay.”
“Thank you sir! Thank you!” Hontas bowed lowly to Asterios, “You won’t regret it!” Hontas’ grateful smile faded somewhat with Asterios’ following words.
“See to it that I don’t.”

Asadar strode quickly to his personal armory and snatched his sword and shield from their place of distinction on the rack of weapons and turned to face his ‘adversary’. “Let us begin.”
“As you wish.” Came the gruff reply.
Asadar dodged the massive sword as it swung past his head and countered with a blow to his opponent with his shield. The blow caused his attacker to stumble backwards slightly and he took advantage of this and swung his own sword in a mighty arc. The sound of steel meeting steel filled the air as his opponent brought his sword up in time to block his attack. “Do we know where Nathavin has taken Caellia?” Asadar questioned as he brought his shield up for another block. He shuddered under the force of the impact of the massive sword.
“He plans on taking her to his homelands. After which he will return to Goddard to perform the ceremony.” The massive orc brought his two handed sword down upon Asadars shield again.
“How long till he reaches his ancestral homelands?” Asadar stepped back several paces and watched the orc carefully, planning his next attack. Seeing an opening, he charged the orc and swung his shield powerfully, knocking the orc senseless for several long moments. Asadar continued to attack him with his long, slender sword before the orc could regain his senses.
“He should reach his homelands within the week according to my informant.” The orc waited patiently as Asadars sword pelted him with numerous slashing blows. He knew that Asadar was only drawing his attention. The real attack would come from behind.
Asadar watched the orc and drove him to the dark recesses of the training hall. He understood he was being ‘allowed’ to drive the orc back but that was alright. If the orc wished to allow himself to be driven into a corner, Asadar would oblige him.

Caellia watched the water stream past the boats hull in silence. She ignored the crew as they set about their nightly duties. Kattath was silently watching the crew to her right. Nathavin had made good on his promise of that night. All of her guards, except Kattath, had been dismissed. Caellia could remember very little of that night. What she could remember, she desperately wished she’d forget. She’d taken great pains to avoid him ever since that night.
Kattath sighed despondently as she tried to piece together why Caellia was avoiding Nathavin. Nathavin had been nothing but considerate to her since that fateful day. In fact Kattath had been shocked that he’d dismissed the guards that had been watching Caellia. Caellia herself had been less obstinate when it came to him. There was no mystery to that however, likely she’d finally discovered that she could not fight him and emerge the victor. But that was not the reason she was avoiding Nathavin. She would not even look him in the eye anymore. That was not the fiery Princess Kattath knew. Something was different and the girls’ aura gave no hint of what it might be.
Kattath spied movement to the aft of the ship and spotted Nathavin near the wheel. She looked back to Caellia, whatever had changed between the two it was up to Nathavin to correct. Caellia would not open up to her.
Nathavin watched Kattath and Caellia from underneath his silvery locks. Caellia had taken to going to the fore of the ship and standing near the prow. They’d had an argument the first time she’d gone up there. She’d actually climbed across the bowsprit to the narrow landing overlooking the bow of the ship. He’d been extremely angry with her out of fear. If she’d fallen she would have been dragged underneath the ship. He’d angrily had her locked in her cabin and had actually forbidden her to come out during the rest of the trip.
Caellia had stubbornly resisted before remembering her vow. Once she remembered her vow she had promised him that she would not put herself in danger like that again. Nathavin had relented despite his earlier intentions and allowed her to explore the ship again. True to her word, Caellia had not made any attempt at further foolish antics, always asking either himself or the crew of the ship for permission before undertaking risky explorations.
He sighed, he felt as if they had taken a step backward even though he’d thought they’d make progress the night she’d hurt her ankle.
