Just as she was about to walk with Cullen, they heard many footsteps enter the hall along with a page announcing the inquisitor’s long-awaited arrival. Immediately, Sirena and Cullen stopped in their tracks and watched as Evelyn motioned for them to follow her along with the other two advisors. With a soft sigh escaping past her lips, the two made their way with the group to the respective places around the table. After the Inquisitor had been gone for so long, she was rather surprised that her fake cousin didn’t want to bathe first.
“Sorry about the sudden council meeting after I had just gotten back, but I felt that right now would be a good time to discuss a bit about what can be done with the Empress Celene situation.” Though, the young outlander knew what was approaching, she didn’t know when exactly. This was an opportunity for a gamer to find out what it was that happened behind the scenes. It still baffled her to find herself in the world of Dragon Age even after all the time she had spent there. Perhaps it was all a vibrant dream that she hasn’t woken up from. “Is there any news of how we can warn her?” Since this was not her expertise, Sirena had decided to keep silent with her eyes cast down.
“She should be having a ball which we need an invitation to.” Josephine had chimed in her idea which the American knew would work. “As I work on getting the invitation, everyone, including myself, would need to be measured.” The only person who was heard to be groaning from the thought was the Commander himself.
“We should all wear the same thing to show uniformity.” Leliana suggested thinking it would be a great idea when to her, it wasn’t. It wasn’t just a no, but a hell no! The young woman’s cheeks puffed out making her look like a chipmunk. Once she made her cheeks go back to normal, she pressed her tongue against the inner walls of her cheek.
“Yeah… You know what? You guys can go ahead and do that, but I won’t be. I love my individuality which means I won’t be wearing the same thing as you all.” Sirena spoke very adamantly about wearing what she wanted. She did not want to wear something that looked like a marching band uniform. It may look good on men but not on women. Heaven knows she was miserable every time she had to put one on during her freshman year of her high school days. Whether they liked it or not, she was going to do what she wanted anyway.
“But we need to show uniformity!” Josephine agreed with Leliana thinking it was a good idea. Though, the American knew otherwise, of course she couldn’t say anything, for that may have given too much away. What could she say or do to make them understand? There was nothing. But that didn’t mean that she had to do what they said anyway since the youngest was a grown adult and could make her own decisions.
“I think it’s great that you ladies want to match in fact it’s adorable! But honestly, it’s not me. Plus, if we are able to get an invitation to this ball, at least one of us should stand out. We don’t know exactly what to expect.” Sirena began to explain on the fly. In her opinion she was decent at winging things. Of course, some things needed time to plan ahead to succeed. “Think about it this way… Say we all wear the same thing and some of us had to do more than look pretty, yeah, we may get away some things, but if we had someone wear different than the uniform you want to plan that person can distract the party goers while the others are busy.” Perhaps that was the best way for her to explain. Let’s be real though, the young American was just trying to find ways to not wear the uniform that would look bad on her. It was almost like those outfits were made just for men at one point in time, which would explain a lot since that fashion was worn by gentlemen in her world’s past.
“It is as you said, we don’t know what to expect. If we all looked the same one of us won’t be targeted.” The American was sure that to the other two people in the room that the discussion had become a ping-pong match between three people. To top it all off, they were all females. That probably looked worse.
“At the same time someone may want to do some sleuthing. That person would get noticed after some time if we are all dressed the same. Whereas, there was someone dressed differently, the attention would be on that person which would give the other time to do what they need to do.” The outlander gave her last argument hoping it was enough for the other two women to concede. Her eyes darted between Josephine and Leliana, waiting for what they had to say while chewing on her lower lip. The other two who hadn’t said anything had already gone through the pros and cons in their head.
Everyone was eyeing each other like they were silently communicating. It was at this point that the silence was driving the modern girl a little crazy. Was someone going to say anything? If only they had chairs to sit on while they were at a long stand still. Was it really that hard to come to a decision about what she wanted? Regardless of the choice they were going to make, she was still going to do what she planned. Once something was on her mind, she was determined to do whatever that was. Out of nowhere she heard a loud sound that had made her jump before noticing that the Commander had slammed his hand on the table.
“This is ridiculous! There are more important things to do besides discussing who is going to wear what. If you ladies want to match, great! If you don’t, that’s fine too! It’s really not that big of an issue.” With that said, Sirena watched her boyfriend leave the room in a state of annoyance. It was understandable since it was women’s squabble.
“Well- whatever decision is made; measurements are in order.” Evelyn stated after everything went down in the room. “The Commander did have a point; this should not be on the priority list. We can all make our choices.” The Inquisitor then looked at everyone making it clear that not only was she disappointed with what happened but the meeting was over as well. The three other women followed Evelyn out. Two of them were discussing ideas for their outfits while Sirena kept her head down in shame. That was how she was. It just showed how much of an outlander she really was. Eventually Evelyn went her own way while Josephine and Leliana went theirs. The young American watched what directions everyone was going before heading to her own destination which was her chambers.
With a quickened pace, she climbed up the stairs and entered her room. As soon as she made it to her private chambers, the outlander rushed over to her wooden desk and scrambled to find some blank pieces of paper. Once she found a few, the young woman pushed the other documents to the side before grabbing a utensil for drawing. This girl was not an artist whatsoever. The best she was able to do was draw a rough draft of what she wanted to wear for the ball. At some point she was going to need someone to draw it better with detail. Who was good at drawing? That was something she was going to have to figure out.
Silently, Sirena sat at her desk as she pondered over her options. Eventually, her thoughts went back to what happened in the war room. Was the young American being selfish? There wasn’t anything wrong with logic, right? Could things have been worded better? While thinking things over, the blonde let out a soft sigh that was full of stress. It truly was bothering her how the whole thing went about. In her mind it did make sense to do both ideas; she wasn’t solely against it, but nor did she want to take part in wearing the same thing as everyone else. Was that so wrong? Her blue-green eyes drifted back to the page that had her rough sketch of the dress she wanted to wear. With frustration, the girl rested her forehead in her hands as her negative thoughts had begun to consume her.
After glancing at her sketch again, she decided it was best to put her focus on the dress for the sake of her sanity. With the last bit of inspiration that she had; the American girl added some detail herself even though she didn’t really know what she was doing. As time had passed while she was engrossed in her work, the young woman hadn’t noticed that someone had entered her chambers which had caused her to jump and fall out of her seat. Once she picked herself up off the floor, her eyes caught sight of the Knight Enchanter, Vivienne. Lucky for her, she was exactly the person she wanted to see.
“Vivienne! What do I owe the pleasure of seeing you this evening?” Once she was acknowledged, the posh mage moved over towards where the youngest of the members stood.
“Well, my dear, I heard you got into a scuffle with Josephine and Leliana, yet no one knows the reason for it.” Sirena knew full well that the woman near her was fishing for information. Though, while also knowing full well she could help, the short blonde decided to tell what it was that had happened.
“It was over fashion choices for the ball that is coming up. I want to wear something different from everyone else while they want uniformity. Though, I do see where they were coming from, but at the same time, I wish they’d understand my side of things.” The older woman glanced down at the desk where her sketch was sitting.
“You weren’t in the wrong for your thinking, in fact, darling, you were spot on. Fashion is very much important in Orlais.” That was something the American knew from her knowledge from playing the games which made her nod in agreement. With swiftness, Vivenne snatched Sirena’s sketch of what she wanted to wear. “This looks very eye catching; worthy to wear at the ball, I think.” Noticing some adjustments could be made, the woman who most people thought was snobbish, took the utensil that the blonde was using and added some details to make it look better. “I will offer my assistance with this task. It’s not very often I get to help others with their fashion. I do wish my suggestions were listened to more often. Don’t you worry, my dear, you will look fantastic!” Vivienne then placed the paper with the drawing back where she saw it. “I will be back in a couple of days.”
The young American watched as the woman made her way out of her chambers with a small smile on her face. She was thankful that someone was not only on her side about the disagreement but was also willing to help. It filled her with great relief and not only that, but it had finally put her mind at ease. She was able to get the help that she needed from the one person she was planning to visit.
