Dawn and Kid walked off a little, not going very far from the rest at the camp but still going far enough away that they would be ensured total privacy. Dawn turned and faced Kid, looking into his face for a moment before looking down to the ground, not moving her head, simply looking downwards. Kid could tell that something serious was on her mind, standing quietly, waiting for her to speak, simply looking into her face. The gentle night wind was blowing around them, causing Dawn's trenchcoat to sway around her legs slightly. She slowly crossed her arms across her chest, her eyes beginning to look a little sad. Neither of them said anything for a minute. Dawn slowly looked up to his eyes. She spoke then, her words coming out a little softly. "...Is there something going on between you and Dom?" Kid's eyes began to look depressed, like her's. He looked downwards, avoiding her eyes. His mouth hung open after a second, it taking him a few moments to speak.
"...The...First time it happened...We were just about to go down into the v-vault..." Dawn looked away from his eyes quietly, her face showing more pain at his words. Kid went on, saying "We thought you were dead...We didn't know what was down in the vault...Dominique said she was just trying to make me feel better...But...Yes...We had sex..." Dawn softly said "Did it happen any other times?..." Kid shut his eyes slowly. "...Yes..." Dawn closed her eyes for a moment, opening them a few seconds later, looking upwards towards the night sky in the distance. The stars shone down from above hopefully, the moon being just a large pale sphere of light in the darkness. "When?" Dawn asked. Kid grit his teeth slightly before stinging tears began to develop in his eyes. Dawn looked at him. She couldn't fight back her emotions. She was full of sorrow and anger, she felt betrayed. "When?" She asked, a little more force in her voice. Kid slowly said "...Just a few minutes ago..." Dawn said "But...You guys looked so sad when you came back...That's not how people normally look after they have sex..."
Kid looked up to her face. "I was sad because...I felt bad after doing it with her...I was thinking of you, I felt so bad after...I regretted it...I think she could sense it, I think it made her sad, too...I'm sorry, Dawn..." Dawn's bottom lip quivered for a moment before she bit it. She looked downwards. "...Does she love you? Do you love her?" Dawn asked a few seconds later. Kid looked to her feet, softly saying "She says she loves me...I don't love her...I care about her a lot...She's a friend...But...I don't love her..." Dawn stopped biting her bottom lip, looking up to his face. "Kid...Were you even thinking of me before you messed around with her?...Did you even wonder if what you were doing was going to hurt me?..." Kid didn't say anything for a second. When he did, his voice began to sound a little more forceful. "What about all those guys you slept with, Dawn?..." Dawn began to sound a little angry as she uncrossed her arms and spoke to him. "I've only really fucked one guy since I met you Kid, and it was an old friend, I only did it as a favour to another old friend. I've been as faithful as I could be, Kid...Ever since the start, I've tried..." Kid looked down to the floor, a pair of tears slowly running down his cheeks, his eyes stinging with pain from the tears.
Dawn noticed his tears, seeing their shine on his cheeks, but she did nothing. He slowly said his words, his voice choking up from his tears. "Dawn, I'm...I'm sorry..." Dawn shut her eyes tight, raising a hand to her face, covering the left half of her face. She let out a gentle sigh. "Kid..." She said softly, not being able to finish the rest of her sentence right away. Kid took a step closer to her. She raised her other hand to him, getting him to stop. More tears ran down his face. Dawn had her eyes closed as she softly said "Just...Go sleep in the car..." Kid didn't argue with her, looking down to his feet as he slowly walked off towards the Highwayman, leaving Dawn alone. He softly began to cry when he reached the Highwayman, opening the door and sitting in the back seat, closing the door and lying down on his side. Within moments, he heard someone open the door to the car again. He thought it might have been Dawn, but he saw it to be Libitina. She looked at him worriedly. "Kid? Why are you crying?..." She asked her words gently. Kid simply shut his eyes, his chin quivering, stinging tears still filling his eyes.
He said nothing in reply to her words. In a few moments, he felt her get into the Highwayman, closing the door behind herself and sitting by his side. He felt her reach a hand over to his shoulder, touching him gently. "Kid?...I'm here, it's alright..." Kid didn't move, didn't say anything. He sobbed lightly. The image of Dawn's sad and angry face was burning in his mind. A few seconds later, he felt Libitina move around a little more. She laid down beside him, lying behind him, spooning him slightly. She reached an arm around him, bringing it near one of his own. He drifted his hand a little closer to her's. She gently took his hand in her's, wrapping her fingers around his hand. He held her hand back tightly, sniffling gently. Libitina kept her face near the back of his head. "It's alright...Cry as much as you need...I'm here..." She whispered. Kid gritted his teeth slightly, more pain throbbing in his eyes from the tears. He let out another soft sob, crying silently with Libitina close to him...
Dawn continued to stand in the wasteland for several minutes, simply looking at the ground ahead of her feet. For a while she simply stared in silence, her mind devoid of thought. She looked up to the starry sky above. She stood out there for nearly an hour, just staring at the stars quietly. Finally, she began to think. "If he thought I was dead, messing around with Dom would be understandable...I was gone, anything to feel comforted would be alright..." Dawn sighed softly. "But...The second time...God...That was hardly an hour ago, I suppose...Hasn't been too long, surely..." Dawn's bottom lip quivered. She shut her eyes tight, stinging pain appearing in them as tears threatened to flood them. "God, Kid!...I never thought you would.....Why?...Why would you do that, that's so..." Dawn let a few tears run down her face. "Jesus, I'm crying now..." She muttered aloud, raising her left hand to her face, wiping at her cheeks and eyes. "How could you?...With Dominique, so close to the camp, too!...Why?...Why?...Just fucking why?!..." Dawn gritted her teeth slightly. A few more tears ran down from her eyes. She was on the verge of cutting herself off from her own heart.
She was on the brink of ending it all with Kid and leaving, leaving and running away like she had done after Weiss had died, years before. She was tempted to force herself to never again feel someone touch her heart. If she ran away again, she knew she'd never feel love again, leaving Kid would put a wound in her heart that no amount of time would heal. Her heart would never again know severe pain, although at the cost of a constant pain that followed her around, instead. At least it would only be a mild pain, it wouldn't be horrible. She was so tempted to, the idea looked sweeter and more golden with every second. She clenched her hands tight for a few seconds. A cooling gust of wind ran along her, playing with her hair, sending silky strands in the air for a moment before they came back down against the black leather of her trenchcoat. Dawn let out a choked cry, shutting her eyes tight, letting her head fall, her chin near her chest. She wouldn't run, she wouldn't run from her heart's pain this time.
She had done so once when Weiss had died, but no more, never again. She had been through too much in the name of Kid to run away now. "All relationships go through rough points, and our's is no different." Her thoughts were strong and firm. She had been so close to just emotionally burying herself, but she had managed to turn away from the idea. It felt like a heavenly light was being shone in her face. "I love Kid too damn much to just push him away over something like that." She began to smile a little, albeit still with tears in her eyes. "He's mine...And I'm his. I can't be away from him, I couldn't pull it off, things would be too painful for too long..." She turned, her smile strengthening a little, her strides quick as she headed back to the camp.
Kid had begun to fall asleep when Dawn walked back to the Highwayman. Libitina was still wide awake. Dawn pulled open the door to the Highwayman, saying "Libby, for the love of all that is holy, get your ass out of there!" Libitina scrambled away from Kid and out of the Highwayman, landing on the dusty floor by Dawn's feet. Dawn got in the Highwayman, closing the door behind herself, Libitina getting up and making a bit of a face before walking off towards one of the nearby carts to sleep. "....Dawn?..." Kid mumbled, sitting up slightly. She sat upright beside him, smiling at him, tears still in her eyes. His eyes were red from his crying. "Kid...I'm not going to let something like that ruin what we have..." Kid looked at her with a little more alertness, sitting up a little more. "I'll talk to Dominique about it in the morning...But...For now...I want you to know that I'm okay with it...Just...Promise me you won't do it again?..." Kid nodded, tears appearing in his eyes once more. Dawn smiled more, a few glimmers of fluid falling down her angelic features. She crawled a little closer to him, Kid turning to the side, lying on his back now. Dawn got over him, closing her eyes and kissing him gently on the lips, Kid kissing her back softly, closing his eyes as well.
They kissed a few times before Dawn murmured "I can't be away from you...I'm sorry for hurting you and making you cry...I'm so sorry...I love you...I love you, Kid..." Kid instantly felt his pain begin to evaporate, her words adding joy back to his heart. He gave her another happy kiss before whispering "It's alright...I love you, too...I'm so sorry for what I did...I won't do it again, I promise!..." Dawn smiled a little. "You sleepy, babe?..." She asked a moment later. Kid nodded slightly. Dawn whispered "So am I...Let's just sleep now...I want you in my arms..." She slipped her arms along the small of his back, resting down on him, her chest pushing to his through her vest and his shirt. Her body resting on top of his was a surprisingly amazing feeling to Kid, he was usually the one to rest on her. Neither of them had taken off any of their clothes, her trenchcoat and boots as well as his shoes still being on their respective bodies. He reached his arms around her, slipping them under her trenchcoat.
They kissed once more.
"I love you..."
"I love you, too..."
Soon, the darkness enveloped their minds, peacefully whisking them both off to sleep. Their minds lifted of the heavy sadness and shame that had plagued them over the last hour or so, they had no dreams, simply resting in the shadows. Dawn had her face turned to the side towards his, Kid simply facing straight up, his head tilted towards her slightly. In her sleep, Dawn gave Kid a soft kiss on the side of his face, near his neck. He turned his head to the side in reaction, looking towards her. They both unconsciously smiled a little, their faces close to one another. They were going to be alright. He regretted what he had done, and she had forgiven him. Their love was still strong, perhaps even reinforced over the experience they had just went through. Unexpectedly, they trusted each other now more than ever...
Daniel had found a pharmacy, walking in through a backdoor. The inside was dark and was devoid of sound. He was in some sort of small back room, a shelf on his left with old cleaning products, a wooden door in the wall ahead of him. He walked over to it, holding his pistol in his left hand, reaching over to the door's knob with his right. He slowly turned it, pulling the door open a crack. There was a faint light beyond, but it wasn't much. Opening the door further, he called out "Yo, anybody home?" He waited a moment. No reply came to him. He opened the door fully, stepping through it. The room beyond took up much of the building's interior space. There were small shelves filling up the room, most totally empty, but some having items on them. A pair of closed double doors were on the very far side of the room. A counter for purchasing items was on the far right side of the room. Several long-dead security cameras were attached to the walls of the building. A few windows were in the walls on the far side of the room, most of them boarded up, light shining through the cracks between boards.
Daniel immediately noticed a few skeletons lying on the floor nearby, the bones looking extremely old. He quickly began to look around. "Okay, okay...Stimpacks, stimpacks...Med-X, maybe?...Crap, just food...Who the fuck keeps food in a pharmacy?...Ah! Here we go!" Daniel grinned, grabbing a stimpack on a nearby shelf, checking it to make sure it was intact. To his satisfaction, he spotted that the stimpack was totally intact and ready for use. He walked over to another aisle nearby, a cracking sounding out as he stepped on a skeleton's hand, reducing it to dust. He found another stimpack, but he saw that it was empty; someone had already used it. He threw it away with an annoyed face, smiling as he found another one, finding it to be intact, as well. He was about to slip them into his pockets when the front doors suddenly swung open. Daniel, standing near the end of an aisle, dropped down and hide behind the nearby shelf. A set of two footsteps walked into the pharmacy. A woman's voice sounded out quietly. "Think anyone's inside?..." A man's replied to her, saying "Can't see anyone..."
A set of footsteps walked further into the pharmacy, heading into a nearby aisle. "Oh, great!...There's meds here, Hiro!...You'll be okay!..." The man chuckled slightly. "Oh hallelujah, I was just starting to get worried..." Daniel stole a quick glance down the aisle and towards the front of the building, seeing what appeared to be a wounded male raider standing near the doors. Getting back fully behind cover, his mind was racing. Should he surprise the second raider and kill her before taking out the male near the front doors, or should he wait and see if they leave without noticing him? They only seemed concerned with helping the male out of the two, but their attitude could easily change after that goal was accomplished. After the male was healed, they could look further into the pharmacy and find Daniel. His heart beating quickly from the adrenaline now coursing through him, he hardly dared to breathe, thinking about what path of action he should take.
An hour or so later, Claude heard someone opening the door to his hideout. He grabbed his SAW, holding it up and walking through the room towards the small opening room. He saw Daniel walking inside, Claude lowering his weapon. Daniel raised his eyebrows at Claude with a small smile, lowering the bars on the door, barricading it. He reached into his right pocket, pulling out two stimpacks. Claude grinned. Daniel nodded and said "That's right, your boy came through for you. Now go fix your bro up, use the second one on yourself." He handed the stimpacks to Claude, Claude taking them. Without using one on himself, he headed into the other room, walking into it's darkness. It wasn't a very big room, the only thing in the room was a single bed, situated against the far wall. He walked over to it. A small form was lying under a thin bed sheet. It was his younger brother, Marius. His skin was deathly pale. Claude slowly pulled up the bed sheet, moving it away from him. Marius lay in just a pair of denim jeans, the jeans a little too big for him, being a bit baggy. He had short dark brown hair, just like Claude. A long and gruesome slash went from the left side of his chest down to his stomach, dried blood covering the sliced flesh and the surrounding skin, fresh blood in the very middle of the wound.
The bed sheet that had been over him had dried blood on it, as well as the bed sheets below Marius' body, by his wounded side. Claude got down by the bed, reaching over and gently bringing one of his brother's skinny little arms closer to him. Through his pale skin, he easily found a blue vein in his wrist, pushing just the tip of the needle of one of the stimpacks into it and watching as the stimpack quickly began to inject it's medicine into him. When it was spent, he pulled the stimpack away from his arm, tossing it to a corner of the room, unintentionally breaking it's needle. He noticed the wound in his brother's side slowly begin to close. He used the second stimpack on himself, being more careless with himself than he had with his brother, simply plunging the needle into his forearm with a light grunt, feeling the stimpack quickly shoot it's fluid into him. He tossed it into a nearby corner of the room, just like he had with the first one. He immediately began to notice that his throat was beginning to feel a little better, the slice beneath his bandages was healing slowly. He sighed softly, hearing his brother groan faintly. Marius stirred, slowly moving a hand near his closing wound.
Claude reached over, keeping Marius' hand away from his side. Marius slowly drifted back off to sleep, slipping back into the darkness. Claude stood up from the bed's side, walking back out to the other room. Daniel looked at Claude. He said "Hey, look. At the pharmacy I saw a bunch of little boxes of food, but I couldn't grab any since I didn't have the pack. You wanna run over there with me real quick with the pack and grab some food?" Claude shrugged after a moment. Daniel smiled and said "Alright, let's grab the bag and get moving, let's do this fast, I saw raiders in the area." Claude nodded, walking over to a nearby wall, grabbing a small green school bag of sorts. The two of them headed to the front door of the small building, raising the bars of it, opening it up and stepping outside, securely closing it behind themselves.
Dominique awoke to the sound of someone walking around her cart. Opening her eyes, she bolted up, coming face-to-face with the barrel of a gun. A dirty man dressed in rags grinned down at her. "Hello, pretty little girl..." He said quietly. Dominique didn't flinch. It wasn't the first time someone had held a gun in her face. He raised a hand to his face, sticking out a finger and holding it against his lips vertically. "Shhh...." She stared into his eyes calmly. "Where's the meds, the caps, the guns? You guys must have some good stuff...Quiet now, tell me where they are, we wouldn't want to wake the rest up, would we?..." Dominique quietly said "...In the car...The backseat." The man raised his eyebrows. "Thank you kindly...Now...Get up, nice and slow, like. I want you comin' with me, wouldn't want you sneaking over to wake up one of your friends..." Dominique didn't move for a second. She slowly crawled out of the cart she had been sleeping in, standing by the man. The man got behind her, sticking his gun into her spine, into her mid back. "Let's go to the car, girly."
Dominique narrowed her eyes slightly. She walked in front of the man slowly. They walked over to the Highwayman's driver side, the man slowly lowering the gun from Dominique's back, running the barrel along the curve of her ass, rubbing it along her tight leather pants. Dominique shut her eyes tight, trying to mentally block the feeling out, hearing the man chuckle softly. He looked into the back of the car through the driver's side window, seeing Dawn lying on her chest. Because she was still wearing her trenchcoat and had her long black hair covering her face slightly, the man didn't instantly become aware that there was a person in there. He wasn't sure what he saw, slowly muttering "The fuck is that?..." His hand slowly lowered, the pistol no longer running along Dominique's backside, pointing to the ground. Dominique's right elbow shot up behind her like a bullet, hitting the man right in the stomach. The man's eyes went wide, his body doubling over slightly in pain. Dominique spun around, tearing the gun from the man's hand before he could raise it towards her. With the man still bent over, Dominique pointed the pistol down into the back of his head, pulling the trigger. His blood flew out, his body collapsing down into the dirt. Dominique looked down at the man calmly as his corpse began to bleed out a small puddle around the man's head.
Libitina and Marv both shot up into a sitting position, the shot having awoken them. Dawn had been roused as well, her eyes snapping open. "What the hell's going on?" Libitina called out. Dominique glanced over her shoulder. "...A robber. He's dead now." She said. Libitina raised a hand to her face, rubbing at her eyes with just her fingers, not wanting to mess up her face paint makeup. Marv sighed softly, lying back in the cart by Heather. Heather was cuddling up to Marv's side in her sleep, hugging onto his arm in her sleep. Dawn sat up on her knees, looking over her shoulder. Dominique smiled and waved to Dawn, softly saying "He had a gun...He wanted our stuff....Sorry for waking you up, Beautiful One." Dawn shrugged slightly. "Eh, it's alright. I feel fine, I was done with sleeping, anyway." Libitina suddenly cried out irritably from her cart. "God damn it, I can't fall back asleep!...It's so early!..." Dominique smiled embarrassingly. Dawn chuckled softly. Dominique stepped back as Dawn slowly got out of the car, looking down at the slain man. Dominique spotted Kid lying peacefully in the backseat of the Highwayman, being still asleep. Dawn's words forced Dominique to swing her gaze from Kid back over to Dawn. "Hm. Good job taking him out. I'll get rid of the body, having it sitting around by the car will be nasty."
Dominique watched as Dawn reached down, grabbing the man by his hips, picking him up slightly. The corpse continued to bleed, blood rapidly dripping down to the ground as the body was carried away. Dawn carried it down a nearby hill, walking off into the wasteland a little, not going too far from the camp, maybe half a kilometer out. Dumping the body, she turned and began to head back, returning in just a few minutes. In that time, Dominique had gone back to her cart, getting inside without a sound. Quietly, Dawn got back into the Highwayman, sitting in the driver's seat, relaxing in silence, Dawn giving herself a few more minutes to really wake up properly. It had only been a few minutes before Kid let out a light mumble. Dawn looked over her shoulder into the back seat, seeing Kid to be sitting up slowly, his eyes shut. He slightly opened his eyes a moment later, looking to Dawn sleepily. Dawn smiled. "Hey, babe..." She murmured. Kid gently smiled at her. Dawn got out of the car quickly, getting back in the car a second later, getting in the backseat. Kid came closer to her side, wrapping an arm across her stomach and lower back from the side, hugging her.
Dawn reached an arm around his shoulders, placing her other hand on the one he kept on her stomach, hugging him back. They were silent for a few minutes before Kid softly said "Dawn...About yesterday....I'm so sorry for what I did...I really won't do it again...Are you still mad?..." Dawn took a moment to reply. "No...Not mad. I meant what I said too, I forgive you, it's alright, as long as you don't do it again...It hurt me so bad, I can't even tell you....But you know what hurt even more than that?...The idea of leaving you..." Kid listened as she took in a deep breath. "It still hurts to think about it...I'm going to have to have a talk with Dominique about it. But I want you to know that I'm okay with it all...As long as it ends from this point onwards." Dawn smiled a little. "I'm in love with you, remember?...Now that I feel that way, it's gonna be a bitch to make me feel any other way. I'm just stubborn like that." Kid smiled and hugged Dawn a little tighter, saying "I love you, too...It's the greatest feeling ever..." Dawn smiled a little more, agreeing with him.
She hadn't told Kid about how close she had been to just leaving him and the rest and just disappearing. Thinking back, she thought the idea had been a foolish one, one that she would have quickly regretted. She couldn't just leave, she would miss Kid and the rest too damn much. As much as she may have disliked admitting it, even to herself, Dominique and the rest, even Marv and Heather by this point, were thought of as "friends" by Dawn. Besides, she wanted to do something about the Scaled Hiss, but first they had to wait for Ronald to come back with microfusion cells for the car. "I'll never leave you, Kid..." Dawn murmured out, turning her head and kissing the top of Kid's own. Kid kept his eyes closed as he turned his head slightly, giving Dawn a joyful kiss on her throat, nuzzling his face into her. Dawn and Kid cuddled silently in the back of the Highwayman, the sun only having risen only an hour before, it being quite early in the day still...
Ronald was already riding back from Gecko. His brahmin were running, pulling the carts along quickly. Stitch and Ice were firing out behind the carts. "Can't these things go any faster?!" Stitch asked. Ronald said "They go any faster and they'll break a leg, they're not cars, you know!" Ice warningly said "They're catching up to us!" Stitch got back to shooting. The three of them and Ronald's brahmin were being chased by about ten large mole rats. Mole rats were a fearsome sight, but they were not the most dangerous animals in the wasteland, not by far. In swarms however, they could prove quite deadly to those not aware of the impending attack. They were rather large, being much thicker and wider than a dog, being a little taller than a dog, as well. Their bodies were a little longer than a dog's, from nose to stubby tail. They had thick dark brown fur all along their bodies. Their claws and teeth were long and sharp. Walking on all fours like a regular rat, they simply looked like a much larger and stronger version of a normal rat. Their eyes were beady and black, but stared at the brahmin carts with an unrelenting desire to eat and simply eat. Stitch and Ice kept firing at them, Ice hitting one in the head, it's body flipping on to it's back as it's nose shot down and dug into the ground. Ronald kept guiding the brahmin, trying to keep the frightened animals moving on track...
Feeling much better now that he had a stimpack's medicine running through him, Hiro ran alongside Felicity, heading through an alley. Neither of them had noticed Daniel in the pharmacy, he had decided to stay low and quiet until the two of them had left. Felicity smiled and said "We're almost out!..." Hiro heard footsteps up ahead, slowing down, reaching out and grabbing Felicity's shoulder, slowing her down, as well. Three raiders walked into the alley from up ahead. "Oh. Just two of our guys." One of the raiders said to the other beside him. The third, a woman, said "Why aren't you two heading into the heart of the city? That's where all the real fighting is." Hiro began to walk towards them, saying "I could ask you the same thing. Why aren't you in the heart of the city?" The woman looked off to the side slightly. "...I don't have a death wish. We're gonna be taking heavy losses in the heart, I'd rather not be among those losses." Hiro shrugged, Felicity beginning to follow him. "We're all cowards, then. None of us wants to fight. But that doesn't mean we have to get any of each other in trouble. We all act like we never saw each other, and we can all stay alive a little longer. Don't tell the bosses on us, we won't rat on you. Deal?"
One of the two male raiders nodded. "Deal." Hiro nodded at him, Felicity following him as the two of them left the alley. Looking to the left, they saw that, a few minutes of walking down the street, there was nothing but space. The wasteland awaited them. Felicity grinned. The two of them hastily began to jog towards the sight, moving through the outskirts until they left the city. Standing outside on the southern side of New Reno, they looked around. The wasteland was empty for as far as they could see. "Where to?" Felicity asked, panting softly. Hiro shrugged. "I should try to find out what happened to the rest of the Wrights...Keith might not have gotten out of the city. But I can't just search around in raider gear, if Keith and the rest have survived, they'd probably just shoot me on sight, not realizing it was me. We'll have to just leave for a bit, maybe...Head for the NCR? That sound interesting to you?"
Felicity nodded with a smile. "As long as we fuck on the way, I'm fine." She smiled at him. Hiro raised an eyebrow. "Keep talking to me like that and I'll ride you to the ground, bitch." Felicity raised her eyebrows at him, smiling a little more, crimson entering her cheeks. She laughed softly a second later, Hiro looking at her for another moment before smiling. They began to head out into the wastes, a strong breeze blowing up a little loose dirt, the two of them disappearing as they headed farther to the south east...
Heather awoke not long after Dominique had killed the robber, still hugging Marv's left arm close to her body. Opening her eyes slightly, she mumbled "Mmm...Marv?..." Marv looked over to the side slightly, still looking at the sky as he said "Ah, you're awake?...Yeah, that shot woke pretty much all of us up...'Cept Krypt...I don't even know where he is...Guy creeps me out a little..." Marv wasn't sure what he was talking about when he mentioned "that shot", but she didn't say anything. Marv's stomach rumbled softly just then. Heather reached a cute little hand over, rubbing along his stomach. "You have to eat, Marv..." Heather said worriedly. Marv's face went calm. "I...I can't. Not these people. For one, they'd know right away that it was me, there'd be no way I could hide it. And secondly...They've been good to us. They never had to treat us nicely. If it wasn't for them, we might still be stuck in New Reno, we might've even died there. Repaying them by eating one of them is something only a bastard would do."
Heather softly murmured "But you can't keep starving yourself..." Marv whispered "But I can't eat any of them, either!...But...I have an idea. I saw Dawn throwing away that dead guy's body. I can go out and eat a little bit of him later, that should end my hunger. After him, I should be okay for a little bit more..." Heather hopefully asked "Can I come with you?" Marv looked at her. "No!...Heather, I don't want you doing what I do...What I do is wrong, I only do it because I have no choice..." Heather's bottom lip trembled. Tears slowly filled her eyes. Marv instantly began to regret his words. He hadn't realized it right away, but he had spoken a little loudly and angrily with her. He turned on his side, facing her. "Heather, I'm sorry...I didn't mean to sound mad...I just don't want you doing what I do...I could get in trouble for it some day, and I don't want you getting in trouble, too..."
Heather let out a few tears before calming down quickly. "Alright...I understand..." She said softly. Now that he was facing her, she cuddled her little body up a little closer to his front, forcing her right arm around his left hip, the hip he lay on, draping her left arm over his right hip, hugging him slightly. He reached an arm around her, keeping his hand on her upper back. She kept her face by his throat, Marv's chin on top of her head slightly. She yawned softly. "Want to go back to bed?..." Marv asked, smiling. Heather shook her head gently, saying "No...I'm awake now...I won't be able to...Sleep..." She let out another yawn before going still. She had fallen asleep. Marv grinned gently for a moment. "She can be so cute sometimes!..." He thought. He kept his eyes closed with her, resting with her, Marv unable to fall back asleep but still holding Heather in silence.
