Nalia watched with mixed feelings of relief and disbelief as Caellia walked away with Nathavin. She was relieved her friend was still alive, yet she couldn’t believe that Caellia was allowing herself to be intimidated into meekly following behind Nathavin like some tamed wolf. What had happened to Caellia? Nalia shook her head to herself. Nothing had happened to Caellia, she’d been fighting with Nathavin. That much had been obvious from the way they had been initially standing at the railing. He had obviously won that battle and Caellia had gone along with him because he’d given her no other choice. Caellia would’ve fought him had she been able to do so. Nalia’s hands tightened reflexively on the grips of her swords in anger towards Nathavin. She sat back to think of a plan to rescue Caellia.

Tazair worked painstakingly at the shackles on his wrists. They’d spent the entire night in the dungeons. He’d spent the entire night working on the wretched shackles with little success. A weary sigh caught his attention and he looked up from his attempts to break the binds on his wrists to glance at Baelthal.
“Hurry up Tazair, Caellia needs us.” Baelthal let his head fall backwards to land with a small thud against the cold stone wall.
“Do you think I’m just sitting on my laurels and counting baby cougars?” Tazair asked, incensed that Baelthal could think that he was doing nothing. “I’ve been working on these chains all night! What have you been doing to get us out of here?” He waited only the briefest of moments, “Oh that’s right, you’ve been doing nothing!”
Baelthal winced from Tazairs' venomous reply before standing and stating quietly while casting a healing spell, slowed by his lack of a staff. “I’m a healer. I’m not able to help you in this situation other than heal the cuts on your hands.”
“Baelthal, I’m sorry.” Tazair lowered his head to his hands and rubbed his face bitterly. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you.” He lifted his head and looked at the shackles on his wrists in frustration. “I just want to get Caellia back and go home. We didn’t ask for this.” He punched the floor in anger, “He had no right to take her! No right at all! What’d we ever do to him? What’d she ever do to him?” He finished sadly, barely above a whisper.
Baelthal cast a sympathetic look to his comrade. He understood Tazairs’ feelings well. But, as young as he was, he knew that Nathavin didn’t necessarily have to have any reason for abducting Caellia. Tazair, although a warrior, was naturally peaceful and generally hated fighting for any reason. He could sense that Tazair was working himself up and stood up and walked as close to his friend as the chains would allow him. Speaking in a low, soothing tone he cast a spell on his unsuspecting friend. At the end of the spell he muttered quietly to Tazairs’ slumbering form, “Sleep well, perhaps Eva will guide you to a solution to our problem in your dreams.” He wearily rubbed his eyes and sat back down in his original spot and silently wished he could spell himself to sleep.

Asadar looked over the lavishly spread table. There were all sorts of exotic fruits and meats from all over the world. There were Desert Codrans from Gludio, Blue Cobols from Oren and Sea Codrans from Innadril. There were also exotic meats from Rune’s beast farms and he’d paid a hefty price to have several types of fish brought in from Innadrils' plentiful fishing grounds.
He stalked past the nervous chefs, not seeing them scurry for cover, fearful of his wrath should he not find the set up acceptable. Asadar had too many things on his mind. He would be meeting with the Kings of Gludio and Innadril to discuss their possible roles in recapturing Caellia. He also wanted their help in overthrowing Queen Aldana and King Therus. While he had no proof that they were conspiring against him with the light elves, they had not responded to any of his attempts at correspondence with them. It was enough to make him doubt their loyalty to him and more than enough to make him angry.

Nalia allowed a pleased grin to grace her lips as she cleverly slipped past the guards in the dungeons. Eva had smiled upon her today. She had learned that Tazair and Baelthal were being held in the lower dungeons from a guard that had been too drunk on Red Codran wine to be careful of what he said while propositioning to a would be lady friend. She patted the keys she had lifted from him through her armor as she mentally replayed her actions. They had been pretty clever, although highly distasteful.
The fool guard had grabbed the young dark elven woman and had been rather forward with his….affections. She’d had to brace herself against a wall with her hands to keep herself from falling over, not that the drunken male had noticed. All Nalia had done was sneak up behind him and move her hands in the motions of a lovers caress while skillfully taking his keys from their secured place at the back of his hip. He had drunkenly assumed that his lady friend had been the one caressing him rather than bracing herself against the wall. As Nalia rounded a curve she heard the clinking of chains before she saw Baelthal and Tazair.
“Nalia!” Exclaimed Baelthal in an excited whisper, “Where have you been?”
“Everywhere.” Nalia replied evasively as she quickly unlocked the shackles from both Baelthal and Tazair. “I’ve seen Caellia. She’s here with Nathavin.”
“Where and when was this?” Tazair growled lowly, his anger sparked again.
“Last night in the center of the caverns.”
“How was she? Was she ok? He didn’t hurt her did he?” Baelthal bombarded Nalia.
Nalia thought back to the way Caellia had been pressed against the railing and shook her head slowly, “I don’t think he’s hurt her, but…” She trailed off, uncertain as to exactly what Nathavin had been doing to Caellia at that time. “She seemed ok to me, she didn’t seem injured in any way.” She finally finished.
“You’re not telling us something.” Tazair looked at her sharply. “Has something happened?”
“Nothing has happened.” Nalia gave him a cool stare. From his expression she could tell that Tazair was not convinced but he said nothing more. “We must get out of here. The guards will come by soon to check on you.” She then led them back to her hiding spot from the night before.

Caellia looked around the enormous cavern and shivered next to Kattath. The dank caverns were chilly. She gave a sideways glance at Kattath’s indecent clothing, how could the woman not be freezing? She shivered again and looked around, tying to ignore the other elves as they looked at her with hate filled eyes as they stalked past going about their daily activities.
“Caellia, Kattath.” Nathavin greeted them each as he approached them. He turned to face Caellia fully, “How did you sleep last night?”
Caellia shivered once more before answering him, “Well I suppose.” She was not going to tell him that she’d slept better than she had on the ship. Neither was she going to complain that the room had been cold and drafty.
“Nathavin,” Kattath broke in, “perhaps a fire grate could be brought in for us tonight.” Kattath had noticed that Caellia had been intensely cold in their shared room. She knew Nathavin had them share a room so that she could watch over Caellia while they were here. “It was quite cold last night.”
Caellia cast a grateful look in Kattath’s direction and made a mental note to thank her later.
Nathavin simply gazed at Kattath for a moment, she’d never complained of being cold before. A fire grate was an unusual request from her. It took another moment before he realized that she was asking on Caellia’s behalf. He nodded while saying, “Of course, I will send someone to do that later today.” As he pulled Kattath a short distance away from Caellia to speak with her about other matters a sharp shout could be heard from the direction of the temple.
Caellia looked in amazement as three light elves fought off a few of Nathavin’s guards before they stopped at the opposite edge of the steps with a young dark elf firmly in Tazairs' grip. Nalia and Caellia locked gazes, Caellia frantically shaking her head no and trying to get Nalia to stand down.
“Release Caellia to us Nathavin!” Nalia demanded. They had watched Caellia, Kattath and Nathavin throughout their conversation and had been waiting for this opportunity. Nalia raised her swords in agitation as she watched Nathavin swing around to fully face her.
“Who are you and how did you get in here?” Nathavin asked menacingly, ignoring her demand.
“How I got in is of no importance! I’m here now and I want Caellia back with us!”
Tazair brought his blade up to the young dark elven boy’s throat, “I will let him go if you give us Caellia.” Just at the edges of his vision he thought he saw Caellia furiously shake her head back and forth.
Nathavin’s eyes turned black, “You would dare to threaten one of mine in these caverns? Kill him, and you will not get three paces before you join him!”
Caellia looked back and forth between her friends and Nathavin before reaching a decision. She cautiously approached Nathavin and tentatively placed her hand on his arm, feeling the bunched, tense muscles under the armor “Let me speak with them. They don’t know about the alliance. Let me explain to them.”
“No.” Nathavin said simply.
“Nathavin please!”
“Nathavin,” Kattath interjected, “if Caellia can get them to stand down, it might be enough to garner some trust for her in our people’s eyes.”
Nalia narrowed her eyes in confused anger, why was Caellia holding Nathavin’s arm? “Let me speak with Caellia!”
Nathavin sent her an anger filled look before turning to Caellia. “Do you think you can get them to stand down?”
“I’ve known Nalia for years. She was my personal guard on many occasions; I should be able to convince her to go home.”
“Very well.” Nathavin muttered darkly. “I will allow you to handle this situation.” His voice took on a foreboding tone, “However, if they attempt to escape with you I will take over and their lives will be forfeit.”
Caellia nodded at him and faced Nalia, “Nalia, release the boy. I’m coming over there to talk; there have been some changes since we last spoke.”
Nalia dropped her swords slightly and nodded. While Caellia crossed the distance she whispered to Tazair and Baelthal, “Let the boy go. When I give the signal Baelthal I want you to take us all home.”
Caellia watched the boy run away from Tazair as fast as he could. As she neared Nalia she slowed down and stopped a few steps from her. “Nalia it’s great to see you again.”
Nalia nodded, “We’ve missed you Caellia. How have you been treated?” Her eyes swept over Caellia’s form, looking for injuries.
“Well.” Caellia then began to explain the past events, leaving out several key details regarding Nathavin.
Nalia listened quietly until Caellia mentioned the alliance. “What?! Caellia why?”
Nathavin and Kattath looked on in tense silence as the two light elven females began to argue with one another. Nathavin tried to hear what was being said but he was too far away and could hear nothing except a word or two here and there.
Nalia looked at Caellia sadly. “I’m sorry Caellia.” She hated having to do this, but Caellia couldn’t see what was happening. She had made a poor choice in allying them with the dark elves. She drew in a deep breath, “You don’t see what’s happened. He has tricked you into this. Nathavin has misled you and you have fallen for his deception.” Nalia lowered her voice so that only Caellia could hear her, “And you are falling for him. You are not able to make reasonable decisions right now.”
Caellia’s eyes narrowed in anger, “How dare you question my authority? I have made a decision and you will obey it!” Nalia turned to Baelthal and nodded her head. Caellia recognized the spell he chanted and the all too familiar blue white streamers of light that began to quickly envelope her. Her scream echoed throughout the dark caverns even after she and the others had disappeared, “NO!”
