Chance let her smother him. Seeing her unsettled like this made him unhappy for a moment. Then he recalled the things that had transpired in his mind while he had been unconscious. "Ester, come on, don't worry about it." He hugged her close then, knowing that he needed to chose his next words carefully. By this time Shadow Ester was back in the room again. The man and woman who lived there had followed her as well.
"Well I never thought I'd see the day a Twili found it's way to Ikana!" the woman said excitedly. Her boyfriend, however, having caught a look chance was giving them, seemed to be trying to get her to go back upstairs. Eventually she did, and the three were back in the basement alone. Chance released Ester as he took a deep breath. ~Time to spill the beans~, he thought to himself decisively.
"Girls... A.... A long time ago, I made a deal with the Fierce Deity. it actually had a body then. and it said as long as I kept it's realm safe, it would enter the mask it is now contained in. All it had as far as conditions, was that I be... immortal. When I got my memories of my misdeeds in the name of the Deity I controlled, He relinquished that deal."
Chance paused to let it sink in. Apparently it didn't. "I gave up my immortality to be with you, Ester."
A tear fell from his eye. Shadow Ester suddenly looked panicked. "YOU WHAT!!!" she screamed. "What am I supposed to do when both of you are DEAD!?!?!"
Chance looked at her with no admiration and no love. "Well considering you only show up as the form of the current hero, I don't see how our relationship is healthy, really."
Shadow Ester looked at Chance with hatred. "So. What. Are. You. Saying?" she said through gritted teeth as she reached for her blade.
He shrugged. "We're through."
Shadow Ester let out a battle cry as she tried to slice the Twilit form of her ex-crush.

Ester held him close, still uncertain if he felt fine. If he did feel fine, he wouldn't have so violently passed out! She kept holding him, not even acknowledging the others there, even as they left. When Chance let go of her, she did too, her gaze confused at what he was about to say.
It hit her. Hard. She merely stared, mouth open, as he told her what would transpire. However, this wasn't the lovey-dovey moment she might have expected, as Shadow Ester went ballistic. Ester turned to her, shocked at how selfish she could be. "He loved me FIRST, you know. You can find someone else!" she said defensively. But, suddenly, she was pushed to the edge as she grabbed her blade and swung. In an instant, Ester's hair suddenly blocked the blade, and flicked it out of her hands, sending it blade first into the nearby wall.
Ester loomed over her shadowy counterpart, eyes alight. "Don't. You. DARE hurt him! As much as he seemed to go after you, it was because of MY appearance that he kept dealing with you! YOU said you would be good! YOU said you would help us! HOW DOES KILLING THE GUY I LOVE COUNT AS HELPING!?!??!??!!"

Shadow Ester looked to her original with frustration. She couldn't deny that she was there to help. After all, Ester was the first hero who had befriended her instead of labeling her as the enemy. Thinking it over, she went to retrieve her sword, and said "Fine, I won't kill him, but I'm not going to travel with you either."
Shadow Ester then left the room and exited the house, headed for goddesses know where. Chance was not particularly curious as to where she went, though. He was more impressed at Ester's control over her Twilit powers.
"You're not just beautiful, you're completely amazing!" He breathed. He blushed as he realized he had yet again developed a boner. It was starting to bug him that he was this turned on around a form that wasn't originally Ester's. Even if it did make sense that a Twili would be attracted to another Twili, he knew Ester was probably upset about it.
"Ester, can I ask you something?" He began. "Are you upset that I find Twilit you attractive? And do you think it would be wrong to have sex as Twili?"

Ester watched her counterpart like a hawk, making sure she left before turning back to Chance. He had a boner again, which she didn't know what to think of. She let out a sigh, suddenly drained, and sat down on the bed beside Chance. Why did Shadow Ester have to be so set on loving Chance? Yes, she was exactly like Ester, but it still bugged her that she couldn't simply let it go.
She glanced over at Chance tiredly. "Look... I don't know! I mean... it's nice for you to still love me in this form but..." She shook her head, seeming distracted. "I... just need to think, Chance..." With that, she gave him a small kiss on the cheek and promptly stuffed her face into one of the pillows.

Chance blushed as she kissed him on the cheek. As she buried her head in the pillow, he briefly considered fondling her breasts. That thought was pushed away when he realized it would be insensitive to her wishes. He instead floated upstairs where the two owners of the house were conversing.
~What is it that made her say no? What could she possibly think about that would make it hard to decide? Is it because of her Twilit form? Is she embarrassed to be with me in that form?~
These and other questions went through his head as he was approached by the woman and her boyfriend.
"Are you feeling better? That scream of yours made it seem like you were in a lot of pain." The Man with the weird robe and single eye in the center of his head asked.
"I'm fine. Just a little shaken, but I'll get over it." He replied. At this point his stomach growled, and he grimaced. "When was the last time I ate anything?" he wondered aloud. The woman chuckled. "You go get your girlfriend and I'll cook something for the four of us."
Chance nodded and went back downstairs. "Ester, our hosts have graciously offered to cook a meal for us." He noticed she still seemed deep in thought. "Are you going to be alright?" he asked.

Pressing her face into the cloth of the pillow, thoughts swarmed her. Why did he decide to give up his immortality for her? Did he really care so much that he would rather die than be apart from her? As romantic as that sounded, she couldn't help but wonder, why her? Why a simple Terminian woman who was feisty on occasion and preferred to go by her father's wishes? True, she had quite the surprising backstory that she had only recently found out about, but other than that, was she really that special? Compared to some of the other women she had encountered, she wasn't the prettiest, nor the smartest -after all, she had put on a bunch of masks without much thought, often resulting in embarrassing moments- but Chance still stuck around. Maybe it was because of his memories, like it had been from the beginning.
She lifted her head when she heard Chance speak. She was terribly solemn as she nodded and floated up with him to eat. "I'll... be ok" she muttered, though anyone could tell she might be lying.
As they ate, Ester simply turned on autopilot, eating absentmindedly. She didn't react to much, and even though she ate a little, it wasn't much more than moving her food around on the plate.
All she could think about was her appearance. Was this new form so much better than her old one? Sure, it enhanced her curves like crazy, but was that why Chance couldn't take his eyes off her? Where was this avid attention earlier? Maybe she wasn't pretty enough. Maybe Shadow Ester had been able to transform herself into an even prettier version of Ester's Terminian form to make Chance go gaga over her when they had first met. This revelation made her drop her fork unceremoniously, and she got out of her seat. "Sorry... I'm not that hungry..." she muttered, floating back downstairs.

Chance watched Ester as she returned downstairs. He could tell something was wrong, but as to what that was, he couldn't tell. He could, however, assume it was his fault. "Ester! what's wrong? I thought you'd be happy that I gave up my immortality, but you seem depressed. is there anything I can do?" he asked, following her.
Ester shook her head. "I'm not sad about that.... I just..." She shook her head. "I'm sorry Chance... It's nothing, really" she gave him a faint smile. "I just need some sleep and we can go on our way"
Chance could tell she was lying, but at risk of making whatever was wrong worse, he decided to agree with her. Then he realized there was only one bed for them both. Thankfully it was big enough to accomodate them both, but he got the feeling Ester didn't want to share a bed at the moment.
"You take the bed, I can go the night without sleep. there's something I need to discuss with the man who has that creepy one eye anyways. Night." he said. he leaned over and kissed her on the lips softly, neglecting to use his tongue in case she was mad at him or something. floating upstairs, he took one last look over his shoulder. "Sweet dreams, my twilit angel."

Ester smiled genuinely at him, glad he could understand that she needed some time to think. Everything was just so confusing for her. She kissed him in return, murmuring a "Good night" before getting under the sheets and resting her head on the pillow.
It took a long while before she fell asleep, as she kept thinking and thinking and thinking. Mostly about things that could happen, but likely never would. Like Chance leaving her for Shadow Ester. After all, they were both immortal, so how wouldn't that work? She could change her form, produce numerous clones for that always-enjoyed harem, and she was willing to make love to him as often as he wanted, all of which the original Ester couldn't do. If anything, it would make sense for Chance to leave her!
She shook her head; Chance wouldn't do that. Would he? Exhaling, she shut her eyes, trying to rest up for defeating the Twilight tomorrow. But it seemed like her head had even more terrible thoughts to give her, as she began to have nightmares.
She found herself in an empty, endless room, with Chance nearby. She called out to him, but he didn't acknowledge her. Instead, he pulled something out from behind his back. Ester's eyes widened at the familiar shape and colors of the Fierce Deity's mask as he lifted it to his face. "No!" she cried out, running towards him. But it was too late, as a shockwave sent her flying. But Chance's new form was faster than her, and suddenly plucked her out of the air by her throat. "C-Chance" she gasped, struggling as he held her off the ground, choking her. The demon's eyes turned bright red, and Ester let out a scream.
In an instant, Ester sat up, breathing heavily. "It was just a dream, Ester, it was just a dream" she assured herself under her breath, but the way she was shaking didn't make things too much better.
