- Chapter 4 – The Long Ride Home
Slick slid out of the water and followed her up the dock. The two women walked quickly up the dock to the bikes, where they rapidly dried themselves with Slick's powers. After donning her leathers again Kate walked back to the tub and set Damion’s shirt down by the edge.
"We shall await your return to the road," she said, wrapping the formality of her usual persona around her like a security blanket. It slipped just a bit when she added, "Just don't take too long. The original criterion still holds. You can come along only if you can keep up!"
As the ladies seemed prepared to continue the trip, Alec spun himself dry and dissipated the hot tub. He created the Harley w/sidecar again and attached the boogie board. "Gentleman, select your positions. I will take whatever is left over, unless of course you feel like trying to hitch a ride with Garth or the women.”
Kate slipped her pager back in place and craned around to see if the men were going to accompany them or head back to the city. "I apologize for my actions back there,” she said softly to Slick. “I hope I didn’t offend or embarrass anybody but myself.”
Slick turned to her and touched her lightly on the arm, looking down at her. “I don’t think what you did was wrong, whatever the reason, and it most definitely didn’t offend me. Although I do wish Simon had been here so I could see the look on his face!” she added, laughing.
Kate smiled in gratitude at her new friend. “Hey, Slick,” she said, her smile turning wicked. “Think they need help drying their underwear?"
Slick grinned broadly at Kate’s suggestion of helping the boys dry off their underwear, remembering the other woman had experience with Slick’s particular method for drying out clothes. “Well, if they just put their pants back on, their crotches will be cold and wet. And if we wait for their underwear to dry naturally, it’ll take forever. Of course, Dam isn’t wearing underwear, so I guess he’s saved himself a bit of a chilling.”
Slick looked down to the dock, eyes half-lidded in concentration. She made a moue of disappointment when she realized Alec had already removed all the water from his underwear, but that still left her Rex and Garth to torment. Her fingers moved slightly on her helmet and two very loud yelps came from two startled men as she froze the water soaking their underwear. She paused fractionally longer than necessary before dispelling the ice, leaving the fabric cold, but completely dry.
Twirling her hair up onto her head, she shoved her helmet on, one hand resting lightly on the visor and speakbefobefore flipping it down. “They can get dressed and get moving now. I say we make them play catch-up.” Slick punctuated her last word by turning over the engine on Morwen, her voice drowned out by the loud growl.
Damion shook the remaining water off before squeezing backo hio his hero costume. His casual clothes returned to their mini storage capsule. Placing his VISOR over his temple the Sonic Avenger noticed a blinking message waiting for him.
