The Demon Hunter watched his
sleeping twin until the orange light of the rising sun bathed the room in a
warm light. Grabbing Vergil's dirty clothes he walked to the bathroom and
dumped them in front of the washing machine. Yes, Dante the Demon Hunter had a
washing machine but that hadn’t been his idea. Alex had forced him to buy one
after he had returned from a job covered in germs and blood.
Walking past his bedroom again he
peeked in to check if his rebellious brother was still sleeping. Seeing him still covered with the blanket and in a deep sleep he
decided to get something to eat before he’d return to watch.
His little meal ended up to be a
whole feast with two pizzas lots of tomato juice and a very satisfied Dante.
Patting his full belly he dropped his feet from the table and stood up again.
The door to the garage opened and
Alex strolled in. Her black leather cloak billowing behind
her. “ Oh fuck that’s cold!” she mumbled and
hurried to the hearth were a roaring fire crackled. Alex turned to look at
Dante. “ So.. how’s Mr high
an mighty doing?”
“ He’s sleeping!” Dante only answered
shortly. After quickly checking her out in her leather clothes he returned to
his bedroom, only to find a fully wake and sitting Vergil.
“ Nice..you’re not trying to sneak away again?”
Dante looked at Vergil from under his bangs.
“To tell the
truth. I would
have tried, but you returned to early. If you’d be so kindly and leave for
about 10 minutes?” Vergil glared as his brother then looked around for his
clothes.
“You wont
find them. I put them into the washing machine!”
Vergil's eyes
widened in shock as he stared at his younger, and messier, brother. “You…put them into the washing
machine?” His ears were deceiving him. He was sure of that. Dante would never
do that. The Demon Hunter was the messiest person he knew.
“Don’t look at me like that, yeah I
have a washing machine but just for the record. That was not my idea!” Dante
sat down at Vergil's side and looked at the wound at his stomach.
Cold blue eyes watched Dantes movements from under their lashes. Silence lay above
the scene as Dante wrapped a new bandage around Vergil's abdomen. “ Why are you doing this?” Vergil's quietly spoken words
sounded like a yell as they ripped the silence.
Finishing Vergil's bandages first he
looked up to his older twin. “As far as I remember we’re family, right?” the
younger twin stared into his brothers eyes as he waited for a
answer.
“Family? That’s preposterous. We haven’t been a family
for almost 20 years. Fact, oh my overly optimistic brother, is that the most
part of our lives we tried to kill each other. And if you
allow me to remind you. You have been rather successful.”
Dante chuckled. “Well… it was either
you or me. I had to kill a lot of lower demons for practice to be as good as
you” The demon hunter didn’t really felt as light hearted as he just acted.
Knowing that he had killed the only other living member of his Family on Mallet Island
had dampened his spirits for quiet some time.
A single white bang fell into
Vergil's face as he looked past Dante to something that was not in this room,
but in another time. “You’ve always been a challenge. From
the very beginning of our fights as children, to the point where we fought on Mallet Island.
I always cherished our fights as diversion in boring times.” A
ghostly smile scurrying over Vergil's face.
Vergil often was called heartless,
cold and emotionless. But against all the rumours possessed
the oldest of the Sparda twins Emotions. He was just proficient in
commanding his emotions and knew when it was save to
show emotions and when it was better to be the emotionless Demon he was feared
to be.
The demon hunter decided to leave it
at this, and didn’t
ask more about it. Instead he asked something else. “Are you
hungry?”
As if on cue Vergil's Stomach
growled after being empty for too long.
Someone else would have probably missed the faint, almost non existent,
reddening of the older twins cheeks.
Dante didn’t even try to stifle the
chuckle as he stood up and walked to the closet across the bed. Crouching down and rummaging through it in
search for something he made a triumphant noise as he pulled a pair of loose
black pants from under a stack of porn magazines. He threw them to Vergil on
the bed. “I guess you don’t want to
stalk around half naked so get dressed.”
The younger twin left the bedroom to prepare something to eat. And in
Dante’s case that meant calling the pizza service.
Vergil was surprised when he
realized that the pants were actually made of a fine fabric. Wondering why his
brother, that normally clad himself in leather, had such a piece of clothing he
stood up and got dressed.
Blue eyes noticed every crack in the
tapestry, every crumbling renderl as Sparda’s eldest
son walked towards the stairs. This house was really run down, but his brother
seemed to like it in such a dilapidated house.
The heavy doors with the red ‘Devil
May Cry’ lettering on the glass front fell shut as the
Delivery boy from the pizza service left and disappeared into the howling
snowstorm. The neon Business sign moving in the strong wind.
Old wooden stairs creaked faintly as
Vergil walked downstairs. Stopping in the middle of the stairway he looked down
into the room. A pizza box lay opened on the big desk giving of a alluring smell. His younger twin was nowhere to be seen.
With growing appetite Vergil
continued downstairs. He could almost understand his brothers
addiction to the Italian National dish as he took a bite of the pepperoni
pizza.
“Leave something for me!” Dante’s
leather cloak was dusted with snow and his hair tousled from the snowstorm as
he walked over to the hearth with a arm full of
firewood. Dropping it next to the hearth he shook his head, making the snow on
his body dance to the floor and melt in the closeness to the blazing fire.
The demon Hunters
heavy boots echoing on the wooden floor as he walked over to his Twin.
Dante looked up and down on his
brother. From his twins muscular chest down over his
long, in Dante’s pants clad, legs to his… bare feet? His eyebrow rose. “Feeling
like home, eh?” he asked with a smirk
Vergil tapped his feet on the
ground. His brother managed to wear his patients thin in no time. “Well you
didn’t give me any socks!” he retorted coolly. His mirror image shrugged with a
grin. “Forgot them!”
Dante took the pizza box and walked to the couch flopping heavily down
he waited for his brother to do the same. Or at least he hoped that he’d do the
same and wouldn’t be too repulsed to sit next to him. Vergil was in better
shape now and it would be hard to knock him out if he decided to leave again.
Only moments later his twin sat down
and took a slice.
