Here is the next chapter of Devils In Training. In this chapter, two old characters return and a new threat appears. Who could the threat be or to whom is it towards? Well, you will just have to wait and see.
Chapter Four.
They looked towards Farrin for the answers.
“I do not know why.” Farrin stated, as she looked away.
Dante looked at her as he stood up, crossing his arms in front of him. “I think you do.”
“I don’t!” Snapped Farrin.
Nero quickly placed his hand on Farrin’s arm to feel her tremble under his hand. “When did he last tell you that you were worthless at fighting?” He figured get her to talk about the time her father told her that as that may bring up the reasons behind it.
“I was only ten years old. I was trying to hold the sword he told would be mine one day and I was trying to get the blade off the ground. He was not happy with my effort. He told me that I was worthless as a fighter that I would always track and then flee from devils instead of fighting them. You would be best to stick close to your half sister Narra for your own safety.” Farrin replied.
“Why would he put you with me? I was always getting into trouble and having you with me would get you only into more danger.” Narrasumi asked.
“I’m not sure; he figured that with my senses concerning devils would be better off helping you, then, anything.” Farrin replied. “I begged him to teach me since he was the only devil who followed Lord Sparda out of hell in the protection of mankind.”
Dante smirked, as he leaned against the bar with his arms crossed. “So your old man hung out with our old man, eh?”
“Yeah, maybe my dad didn’t want me to cross your paths for some reason.” Farrin stated. “But, it happened.”
“So how did you find us? We don’t publish our agency very much.” Nero replied.
Farrin got out of her chair and walked into her office. She opened a roll-a-deck and pulled out a very well used card and showed it to Nero and Dante. “A retiring devil hunter gave that card to me. He said the young man may be young looking but he is good at what he does. The code to get their attention is Eva. After that, if you have a devil for them to slay, give them every piece of information you have on the devils to the one who answers the phone and tell them how much you pay for the deaths of the devils and where you will be to give them the payment.”
“But why would a man be at that location if you hired us?” Nero asked.
“I don’t ever go to that area very often. It was only by chance I was in the area and sensed them. I told Dante and yes, I kept my normal voice with him since I trusted him a bit more than his younger partner as he called you at the time.” Farrin stated.
Nero glanced over at his older partner. “And why didn’t you tell me this?”
Dante smirked. “Find out for yourself, kid.” He turned his attention back to Farrin. “So would you like to learn how to wield that sword without looking like a damn fool?”
“Yes, I would.” Farrin replied. “I’m going to prove my father wrong that someone can put time and effort into training me how to use it.”
Dante stood up and grabbed the last piece of his pizza. “Then, let start the training now.” And out the door he went.
Narrasumi watched as Nero and Farrin followed suit. She grabbed her sword and headed outside.
~~~~~~~~~~
Dante asked Farrin to bring out her sword as they were going to teach her how to hold it before they start with anything else. Nero watched as his older partner showed her how to hold her sword. He shook his head as he shoved his partner away from her. “I can show her better.”
Dante smirked. “Have at it, kid.” He stepped back knowing that he was showing her how to hold it with both hands before they moved to having her hold it with one hand, which both men did a lot of.
Narrasumi watched as Nero tried to help her sister hold her sword with one hand, but the sword kept going down to the ground. “Nero, maybe two hands will be good for the time being, till she gains some skill in holding it with one hand.”
Nero glanced over at her and then looked at Farrin. He removed her sword from her hand. He held out his right hand. “Try to force it down.”
Farrin looked at him and then over to Dante, who shrugged. “Better. Try to push his hand down, it will tell us all how strong you are with one hand, Farrin.”
Farrin looked over at Nero. “You better not make me look good when I’m not.”
“Oh, you will see how hard it is to move it with one hand,” Nero replied, as he watched her take hold of his right hand.
“Wow,” She looked at the hand and then to him.
“Wow what?” Nero asked. He never had anyone say that about putting their hand in his devil hand before.
“It’s warm. I didn’t think it would be so warm. It feels nice.” Farrin replied.
Nero smirked. “Can you push it down?”
Farrin turned her attentions to the hand and tried with all her strength to push it down, even as Nero was resisting the push down. Farrin managed to move his arm down by ten degrees. She pulled her hand away. “I can’t do anymore than that.”
Nero nodded as he stepped away from her. He looked at her before turning to look at Dante. “Her right hand is not that strong. Very strong for a human but a half-devil, it’s passable.”
Dante switched which leg he was standing on, which gave his shoulders a move, as he smirked. “Test both hands to see if they’re strong together and if so, we should focus on her strengths not her weakness at the moment.”
Nero nodded as he walked back over to Farrin and had her use both hands to push his devil arm down. Much to his amazement, she shoved his arm right into the ground with both hands on it. “So you used both hands to throw me into the pond?”
“Nope, a one handed toss.” Farrin replied, as she lifted him off the ground with one hand and proceeded to throw him into the woods. She blew out some air as she brushed her hands together revealing that she had pulled her trigger out to throw him before the trigger disappeared into her arm again.
“Oh, you are going to get him pissed off at you again.” Narrasumi yelled from where she was perched on the roof with Dante.
“Well, he did ask and I showed him.” Farrin said, as she looked over at her before glancing behind her to see Nero stalking out of the woods, brushing off the leaves that fell on him.
Nero walked up to her and shook his head as he grabbed hold of her sword. “Hold it with your hand. Only one, if you can throw me with one hand, you can hold it with one hand.”
“But I can’t!” Farrin cried out.
“Do it!” Snapped Nero.
Farrin was angry and she wanted to run instead of staying put, but she tried to move away from Nero only to find Dante blocking her path to escape. He shook his head and pushed her back towards the sword. “He gets on everyone’s nerves once in a while, Rin, now pick it up the way he asked you to.”
Farrin reached for the sword with her right hand and from the blade being upright when Nero held it to the point dropping to the ground as she held it. “I told you my hand was weak with the sword.”
“Not for long, Rin.” Nero stated, as he got her to hold the sword’s hilt properly with one hand and then he took her other hand and placed it below her right hand. “Now lift it.” The tip of the blade was now pointed up to the sky. “Can you tell it is easier and you don’t have much strain in your forearms?”
“It is easier.” Rin replied, as she glanced over at him.
Dante smiled as did Nero. Nero approached her. “Now, here’s the hard part. You need to hold that up till I tell you to lower it.”
“What!” Farrin snapped.
“Hold it up like that till I tell you to lower it.” Nero said, as he walked back to where Dante was at.
He looked at him. “How long will you make her do that?”
Nero glanced back at Farrin. “Might be for half an hour or longer,”
“Punishing her for the throw?” Dante asked.
Nero shook his head. “No, she needs to get some strength in those arms of hers.” He placed his headphones to his ears as he listened to his music.
~~~~~~~~~
Two hours later, they sat there talking while Farrin held her sword up. Narrasumi looked over at her sister to see that she was trying to keep the sword upright but she was starting to fail. “She’s weakening, Nero.”
Dante kicked the boot of his partner to get his attention. Nero glared at Dante for the kick. Dante glanced over towards Farrin and watched as the sword wavered in the air. “You better call it done, kid, before she injures herself.”
Nero glanced over and saw that the sword was wavering a few seconds before she strengthened her grip on the hilt. He got up, pushing his headphones off his ears as he walked over to her side and took hold of the sword’s hilt just as the sword’s point started to go down towards the ground. “Are you ready to learn how to move with the sword out?”
Farrin glared at him through sleepy eyes. “Tired, Nero, I’m tired.”
“The day is still young, you can handle more.” Nero replied. Just as she was about to say something to him she started to slump. Nero saw the movement fast, flinging the sword into the ground behind him; he grabbed her into his arms and held her as he brushed her bangs aside to see her eyes barely open. “Farrin?”
“Tired,” Farrin whispered, before her head went limp as did the rest of her body.
Dante and Narrasumi went rushing to his side. Narrasumi was raising her hand up to bash Nero in for making her sister pass out like that, but Dante stepped in front and blocked her by lifting Farrin from Nero’s arms. “You pushed her too much today, kid. She rests for a bit till she recovers.” He turned to look at Narrasumi. “Her bedroom,”
Narrasumi nodded as she led the tall male back into the house and up the stairs towards a room. Once there, Dante placed her in the bed after removing her boots from her feet. He looked at Narrasumi. “When she wakes, we continue the training.” And out of the room he went.
Narrasumi whispered, “Jerk.”
“I heard that!” Dante called out from the top of the stairs before he headed outside to meet up with his partner.
Nero stood out in the backyard with Red Queen out and doing sword practice with it. “How is she?”
“Asleep, kid. She won’t be up till she wakes. So,” Dante replied, as he pulled Rebellion off of his back and placed the blade on his right shoulder. “Care to practice with me?”
Nero smirked as he twisted the hilt of Red Queen revving her up. “Bring it on, asshole.”
~~~~~~~
Three hours later, Narrasumi and Farrin were watching them fight to which Farrin thought they were going at it a bit fierce. “It looks like they’re fighting for real against each other, sis.”
“Yeah, they do.” Narrasumi replied. As Dante got thrown by Nero only to be grabbed by the ankle and thrown into the woods. “But oh wow, the way they move as they’re fighting is like poetry in motion. Beyond that they both look hot.”
“We will never be lucky enough to have guys in our lives who look like that, sis.” Farrin said. “They probably won’t even stay here for long before heading back to Fortuna.”
“They’re going to stay to help you get stronger with that sword of yours, sis.” Narrasumi stated, as she turned to look at her. “Why didn’t you admit to me about why dad didn’t let you learn how to fight?”
“I didn’t want you to become concerned about my welfare, sis.” Farrin replied, as she kept an eye on the two men who were still dueling in the pasture. “I didn’t want you to worry.”
“Worry! Every time you go out on a search, I worry!” Snapped Narrasumi, making her sister look at her. “Now, you will be able to slay them instead of hiring others to do it for you.”
“Well, you don’t have to worry about it.” Farrin replied. “I’ve no need to fight which I always have been able to sneak away without being caught by them.”
“Rin, I see the reason to know how to use your weapons. What if you were caught by them? Then, what?” Narrasumi said. She took notice of the silence of the clangs of the swords behind her but she kept her eyes focused on Farrin.
“Then, I would fight with what abilities that I have.” She replied, as she tried to look away from her sister.
“Which would be what?” asked a husky male voice coming from behind Narrasumi, they turned to see Dante standing there as he placed Rebellion on his back.
“Running,” Farrin replied. “I’m very fast.”
“What about using your devil triggers to fight with?” Dante asked.
“Devil triggers?” Nero asked shocked. He didn’t really see them when he was being flung about a few hours before. “You have them?”
“Yeah, but they come out when I need them to.” Farrin said, as she held up her right hand to reveal the dull color of the devil arm to them before they disappeared into her arm again.
“Lucky.” Nero replied, as his left hand unconsciously went to his right arm to cover his arm up like he normally would do.
Dante looked at her as he placed his sword on his back. “So are you ready to hold your sword the way it should?”
Rin nodded, as she pulled out her sword and held it with both hands. Nero shook his head as he showed her again where to place her hands for the best chance at getting a good hit on a devil. It took an hour of Nero trying to get her hands to remain where they were supposed to be on the hilt. Nero was starting to lose his cool even though it was not really showing beyond how he stood.
Dante helped Nero calm down by taking over till he got himself under control temper-wise. Rin seemed to be more at ease with her hands looking weak on the hilt but when Dante pulled out Rebellion, her hands went firm and strong on the hilt ready to fight. He arched an eyebrow. “You want your enemies to think you will be an easy kill, right?”
Rin looked at him puzzled. “What do you mean, Dante?”
“Look at your hands, how they’re holding the hilt?” Dante pointed towards her hand with the tip of Rebellion. “They’re loose but as soon as I pulled Rebellion, you went firm on the hilt as if they could sense that you were about to be attacked.”
Rin looked down at her hands to see them firm around the hilt. “I guess my hands are acting without me even knowing.”
“Yeah,” Dante nodded as he looked at her hands before glancing over at Nero. “Nero, you can work with her on the swings if you want or I could?”
“I think I better do it, partner, you have different swings than I do.” Nero replied, as he pulled out Red Queen and started to show Farrin how to swing and jab with her sword mimicking the motions that he did with Red Queen.
They did that for hours when the sun started to set for the night, they sat around the dinner table eating another four pizzas.
“So, what hotel are you staying at tonight, Dante?” asked Narrasumi. She knew with how much beer both men did, even with devil physiology they could be a danger on the roads.
“We may like to stay in hotels, it is a luxury that we don’t do very often.” Dante replied.
“We camp most of the time, when we’re hunting.” Nero stated.
“Well, not tonight.” Narrasumi said. “We have plenty of room here. The room in the basement should suit you both fine, since there are two beds there.”
“How many rooms do you have?” Dante asked.
“Five rooms,” Farrin replied. “We have plenty of room.”
“So whose bathroom did I use?” Nero asked.
“My parents’ bathroom, it is the only one that I can really use comfortably.” Farrin said. “When they died, yeah, dad got slain by a devil that was then killed by Dante a few weeks later. I had to track this one down and watch as Dante slew him. It was his first job that I hired him for.”
“And from what I remember, you paid me quite a bit for it too. Got me out of some financial problems,” Dante replied. “And the following slayings weren’t that bad either.”
“I’m glad for that. You were highly recommended even by the other slayers, they wouldn’t take on the jobs that I found, they said you would need the best for that job and that would be Dante from Devil May Cry.” Farrin said, as she got up from her chair and started to get the dishes into the sink to start washing them.
Nero got up and helped as well. He wanted to be as helpful as possible.
It was an hour later, the dishes were washed and dried and put away. The kitchen was washed and very clean before Farrin and Narrasumi showed Dante and Nero the bedroom that they were going to share. After they approved of their quarters, they headed for their car and parked it in the empty garage stall and got their bags into the room. They all called it a night as Nero wanted to work on the swings early tomorrow morning.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile in Fortuna, a shadow appeared on the gray brick wall that was covered in graffiti as the form approached a door where they looked up to see the neon sign that said Devil May Cry, as the door was pushed open by a foot. “Dante, I want to . . . what the fuck? Where is that fucker?”
A blond haired woman walked next to the form and glanced around the room. “Looks like our apology will have to wait; Lady, he and Nero are gone on a hunt.”
“And left us here alone, Trish?” asked Lady.
Lady shrugged. “Well, considering that we did dump him.”
Trish turned to look at her. “Well, we didn’t know he would just up and leave without leaving a note.” She approached Dante’s desk to find no notes whatsoever on it, beyond his motorcycle magazines.
“Well, we will come back later and apologize.” Lady said, as they walked out of the room to their motorcycles and drove off into the night.
Neither ladies noticed the ball of flames that appeared and then disappeared from view.
Stay tuned, the next chapter will be coming soon.
