Andrew Ross didn’t know what to think when he met Three Dog, the DJ for GNR. Andrew had spent a rather peaceful night alongside the feminine warmth that was Brotherhood of Steel Sentinel and leader of the Lyons’ Pride, Sarah Lyons. The night would stick in Andrew’s mind forever. The first time since any of his sessions with Amata that Andrew Ross had simply made love with a beautiful woman.
She had awakened Andrew with a series of kisses to the cheek, nose, neck and lips. When he finally stirred he found himself stricken by the look in Sarah Lyons’ eyes. It looked as though she loved him. “good morning Waster. How was your sleep?” she whispered after Andrew was fully aware. “amazing. Dreamless actually. Sleeping next to you seemed to really…rejuvenate me.” Andrew admitted. He smiled and leaned forward for a kiss. Sarah was surprised but accepted the kiss eagerly. Their mouths soon opened and Andrew accepted Sarah’s delicate pink tongue inside his mouth, enjoying anew the taste of Sarah’s mouth. “Ah, ive got to go. Im losing time finding my father.” Andrew sighed, genuinely upset for having to separate from this amazing sentinel. He could never call her a temptress, it just seemed too…demeaning. “yes I know.” Sarah said, sounding equally distraught over having to give up her new prize. “but you’ve gotta go now.” Sarah said with finality. “this is too important for you” Andrew smiled. He was glad she understood. “I hope we meet again.” Andrew said with a final kiss before exiting the bed and re-clothing himself in his leathers. Sarah grinned. “I told you we cant fall in love right now. So I left it open. Come back to me and well take this further.” Sarah said as she uncovered herself and slowly walked toward Andrew before pressing her lithe nude body against his fully clothed body. Her breasts were pressing into his chest as she wrapped her arms around Andrew and pressed her sweet lips against his one final time. ---------------- “Well hello. The look on your face says it all. You are wondering who the heck this guy is and why you should care. Well prepare to be enlightened. I am three dog. Jockey of discs, teller of truths. I am the voice of GNR.” said three dog with his flashy introduction. Andrew sighed, he was surprised confetti hadn’t started fluttering down around them. “look, three dog. Im looking for my father. I need to find him.” Andrew said, skipping all formalities and hoping to just get to the reason he was there. “Yeah I met him. James. Great guy. And it just so happens that his location is known to me. But for me to help you, you’ll have to contribute to the Good Fight.” Three Dog said. The bastard! He was black mailing Andrew. Andrew sighed and shook his head. “What is it you need me to do?” Andrew asked, more than a little frustrated. “well, some brain dead super mutant decided it would be funny to play target practice by shooting at the little round disc on the Washington Monument.” Three Dog said, crossing his arms. “Aw, I think I know where this is going.” said Andrew, nodding. “yep. That round shiny disc was our relay. See GNR is my baby. I feed it, change it, make sure shes happy. But without a relay, nobody can hear her cry. Without GNR the people of the capitol wasteland have no voice. I need you to fix it.” Three Dog said. Andrew swore in his mind. Why could nothing ever be easy. He finally nodded. “how would I go about fixing this relay?” Andrew asked. “one of the scribes said something about finding another relay dish on the voyager display at the museum of technology in DC. You need to find that relay and hook it up to the top of the Washington Monument.” “that doesn’t sound easy.” said Andrew. Three Dog shrugged. “It isn’t. id never lie to you. But you gotta look that says I can get shit done.” Three Dog admitted. “Alright, ill get it done.” Andrew said. Three Dog clapped his hands and shouted. “oh yeah! I sure know how to pick em. Go ahead and get that done and when you return ill be sure to lead you to your dad‘s last known location.” Andrew simply nodded before whistling to Dogmeat and leaving the area, heading downstairs and out the door that led to the back of the GNR building. Three Dog had a feeling this was not the last that he would see of the Lone Wanderer known as Andrew Ross. ----------------------------------- Gem was sobbing at the foot of Gob’s bed. She wanted dearly to wait until Gob was finished with the day’s work, but she felt the news would tear her in two if she didn’t get this done with. Gob had been happy to see her, his sweet misshapen smile indicating his joy at seeing her face. But here he sat now, gnarled hands covering his eyes as he sat shaking his head. Gem sat on the edge of the bed feeling miserable as well. “why Gem? Was it me? it’s the way I look isn’t it? I knew it would get to you eventually.” Gob said glumly. “No Gob, that isn’t it. Im no saint, but im certainly not some…bigot.” Gem spat the word bigot with disgust. “If that was the case then I never would have liked you. But it is genuine. I love you.” Gem tried. “If you love me then why did you do it? With Billy Creel of all people. He was one of the meanest people to me.” Gob asked, crossing his arms. “I honestly don’t know Gob. It was like I couldn’t control it. Something took me over and I couldn’t stop.” Gem said, hoping he would believe her. Although if the situation was switched, she probably wouldn’t believe him. “So youre saying something took you over and made you sleep with that creep.” Gob asked, raising what would have once been an eyebrow. “no…not exactly. I was flirting too. But it was like after he got me into his house…I couldn’t say no. something just came over me.” Gem said. “that’s impossible!” Gob shouted, standing up and pacing. “theres no such things as ghosts, Gem!” “I know! Im not saying there is!” Gem shouted as well, standing up and crossing her arms. Why wouldn’t he believe her? “Im not lying to you, Gob. I know it sounds crazy but ive never lied to you.” Gem said, coming close to Gob and touching his tender shoulder. He shook his head. He didn’t know whether to believe her or not. “No you’ve only cheated.” Gob retorted before turning to Gem. “Gob…Im sorry…I should never…have….questioned.” Gem tried, but she suddenly felt weak. The room seemed to wave around in front of her eyes as if she was seeing fumes coming from a tub of gasoline. She stammered and tried to speak, but no words came. “Gem, are you alright?” Gob asked, suddenly worried about his love. She may have made a mistake in Gob’s mind, but he didn’t want her dead. “Gob….help…” Gem said before her world went black and her body thudded against the wooden floor of Gob’s bedroom. She neither felt nor heard any more. ---------------------------- Andrew hated being underground, but he hated more than anything else being surrounded by super mutants with no other backup other than his loyal and faithful dog. He had plenty of ammo left on him, but the thing was that the mall was thick with muties. He didn’t sense any danger from the ultimate super mutant, the overlord. But there were plenty of dangers between his location in the stairwell leading up out of the subway tunnel and his destination, the heavy oak door of the museum of technology. Andrew set his jaw and crept out from his cover. He noticed two super mutants talking together nearest him. He pulled a frag grenade from his pocket and after taking a deep breath, he pulled the pin and threw the grenade between the two mutants. After a few moments it exploded. It didn’t kill either of them, but they looked damaged enough. Andrew opened fire on the two mutants killing both in no time. His next obstacle was from a super mutant on a rise behind him with a minigun. There was another, perhaps greater danger right in front of him as a super mutant master approached him from directly in front of Andrew’s location. Andrew hid inside a handy bus stop structure. He fired from behind cover until that mutant was dead. After that action Andrew decided not to engage the mutant on the rise and instead, sprinting toward the door to the museum of technology. He thanked God that he found it to be unlocked and slipped inside before the other mutant noticed him. “shit!” Andrew shouted, noticing another mutant right before him near the husk of a wrecked bi plane exhibit. He made a dash toward the nearest pillar and threw his last frag grenade toward the advancing monster. It exploded, killing the mutant instantly. Andrew breathed for a moment, reloading his Chinese assault rifle and leaving the pillar. He climbed the stairs and entered the hall before stumbling on something he had wished never to see again. It was a vault exhibit, complete with automated tour. Andrew cursed under his breath and nodded to Dogmeat who stayed vigilant all the while. Andrew entered the vault exhibit, rifle at the ready. “being indoors making you sad? Our vault tech simu-sun will give you all the brightness of outside without all the harmful effects of the suns rays!” the automatic voice came on, snapping Andrew out of his reverie. He grit his teeth and moved on looking for any threats before him. “moms will love our new stove technology. Mmm I can already smell the muffins baking already!” the voice intoned, irritating Andrew Ross further as he trudged on through the vault exhibit. “feeling bored? Try watching a movie or listening to a symphony in our new vault-tec…” the voice droned before Andrew sighed and shot the nearest speaker box. The voice grew deeper and deeper before it died completely. Andrew entered a large round room with seats all around and a strange round object in the middle of the room. He took a few more steps inside and all of a sudden lights came on and there was a brilliant portrayal of the cosmos lighting up the ceiling. Andrew would have stopped in awe if he hadn’t heard the cry of the gun that shot the bullet that grazed Andrew’s cheek. Andrew dove immediately and Dogmeat ran toward the attackers, a duo of super mutants who attacked from a service hallway to the right of the room. Andrew peaked from behind the chairs he was using as cover and slowed his breathing and brought into his brain his unique VATS system. Andrew carefully shot both mutants in the head, killing both. Andrew ran to the door and picked the ammo from the bodies of the mutants before going up the stairs and into another room. The room consisted of a large staircase. In the center of the room shooting up from the floor to the ceiling was a full scale rocket model. Andrew had no time to admire however as the super mutants in the room started shooting. Andrew fired on the mutant approaching from the top of the stairs first, bringing him down after more than half a magazine. Andrew reloaded and shot the mutant below him on the floor. After the mayhem was over, Andrew jumped over the railing and landed with a thud on the marble floor below. He ran through the door and nearly ran into his objective. Before him stood a Lunar Lander, complete with satellite dish. Andrew searched the room, and just as he suspected, he noticed a super mutant overlord guarding the door at the top of the staircase. Andrew did the only thing he could do. He aimed his rifle and fired. The overlord howled in pain as bullets slicked through his arm and impacted with his immense, muscular back. He turned to fire again just as Andrew ducked behind the staircase. He reloaded and shot out of cover once again, more than half of his bullets hitting their intended target, which was the overlord’s head. Before long the beast fell from the bullets and hit the floor with a loud thud. Andrew proceeded to take the screws from the Lunar Lander’s satellite dish before dismantling the piece and stowing it away in his pack. The trip back to the Washington Monument would not be a long one. Andrew knew he was closer to his father than ever. He hoped the road would not go on much longer. ------------------- Darkness slowly turned to light as Gem opened her eyes cautiously. She shut them as the harsh beams of light entered her retinas. She was lying in the former Doc Church’s clinic, which was now being run by a woman named Lana Wolf. She was cute, Gem thought with her fallen angel style haircut. Her hair was black and her eyes the same color. Her white skin was still pale compared to the other waste landers she had come to know. All in all, Gem figured, Doc Wolf was very good looking. ‘Andrew will be pleased to see her.’ Gem thought to herself as she closed her eyes once again before looking at her surroundings. In the room with her were Gob and Jenny. The latter was sleeping soundly in a chair alongside her friend and counterpart, Gob. “Gob?” Gem asked weakly, “what happened? Why are you here? You were so mad at me.” “yea, but after the good doctor‘s report I understand.” Gob said. He smiled and kissed the weak Gem on the cheek. “I forgive you.” Gob said. Gem smiled and thanked him before the doctor came into the room. “Hello Dr…” Gem said, pausing after dr., her way of asking the beautiful woman’s name. “Wolf. Im sure you are wondering what happened to you.” Dr. Wolf said. Gem nodded. Dr. Wolf lay down some papers on a handy table near the recovery room. “Gem, you had a neurological disorder. It was radiation induced and benign, thankfully. It caused your primal urges to take over your natural thought. I did some work in removing the tumor from your brain. You are strong and very healthy, and you will make a full recovery. Take a pack of rad away every day right before dinner and you should feel the numbness go away.” the doctor reported. “thank you…” was all Gem could say. “but doctor, what happened to my eyes…you know…during…” “during intercourse. That was simple. You were, lets say concentrating so hard that you broke a blood vessel in your eyes, that is all. Both eyes is pretty rare, but apparently the tumor on your brain, aside from taking away your rational thought also caused you to feel no pain…only pleasure. So you would not have felt the pain in your eyes that would have made you seek medical help immediately and not three days afterward.” Dr. Wolf explained. Gem nodded and sat up in bed. Gob hugged her hard and whispered apologies for not believing Gem mingled with confessions of love and appreciation. “morning honey. How was your sleep?” Jenny piped in before stretching into a yawn. “Refreshing and deep. How long was I out?” Gem asked her best friend. “four months.” Jenny said with a gleam in her eye. Gem gave Jenny a sarcastic grin. Jenny laughed and laid a hand on Gem’s shoulder. “im just kidding kid. You were out for two days though. Poor Gob here stayed right by your side through it all.” Jenny said. “thank you Gob.” Gem said with a smile. “Im just glad everything is back to normal guys. Lets go home.” Gob said, extending a hand. Gem allowed him to help her up from the uncomfortable cot. She was glad to be reconciled with her boyfriend, whom she now had more respect for. ------------------------------ “well ill be damned!” Three Dog exulted back at the GNR radio station, “crystal clear sound! Yeehaww!” Andrew didn’t know what to say. He stood to the side idly petting Dogmeat with a bemused look on his face while he let Three Dog talk excitedly. “Alright, now I know a deal‘s a deal. Now, your daddy was here, but he left some time ago. He asked me the lay of the land and I gave it to him, and he told me that he was going to see an old friend at Rivet City. Id suggest your next stop should be there. Just follow the Potomac and you’ll reach the beached aircraft carrier that is Rivet City.” “Thank you, Three Dog. This really means a lot to me.” Andrew said shaking the man’s hand. “Aint nothing. You helped me so I helped you. If more folks helped each other then maybe we wouldn’t be so damned mad at each other.” Three Dog said, squeezing Andrew’s hand. With that Andrew was off. Rivet City seemed a nice distance away. He thought about going back home to Megaton, but he didn’t want to have the reunion so fast. And besides he would have just left sooner than he wanted to anyway, and he had promised Gem he wouldn’t leave so soon. The girl had some abandonment issues. She would be strong until his return of course, but upon his return he knew she would be clingy and not want him to leave for a good long time. And he had no mind to break his promise to her. That was settled, he needed to get to Rivet City and needed to resupply first. Just then he remembered something Gob had said about a place called Underworld. He had told Andrew that he would find supplies there before he asked if Andrew would pass along a message of greeting to his mother Carol. “Hey Three Dog, how far is Underworld?” Andrew asked, stepping back into the room. “not far brother. You just go to the DC Mall and its located inside the museum of history.” Three Dog said. Andrew thanked him and left. Andrew stopped in the GNR plaza and approached the now fully power armored Sentinel Lyons. Andrew felt his heart sink a little at seeing her present state of dress. But once again, she didn’t have a power helmet on. It seemed to be her custom. “Hey Waster.” Sarah called out upon seeing him. She gave him a sweet smile and kissed him when he got to within arms length, causing a teasing laugh and a catcall from some of the nearby Brotherhood initiates and soldiers of the Lyons’ Pride. “Ignore them, theyre too immature to be soldiers.” Sarah said wryly. “You seem to have taken a liking to a wasteland animal, Sarah. Hope you havent gone native on us.” mocked Gallows. “And you’re starting to sound like a fuckin’ outcast. Watch your ass, Gallows, I’m still in command of you.” Sarah called out crisply and professionally. Her tone must have caused him to snap to reality. After a sharp salute to his commanding officer, Gallows stared hard at Andrew, who returned the stare until he left the courtyard to help with the cleanup of super mutant bodies from the battle of the night before. “anyway, where were we?” Sarah asked embarrassed by her soldier’s behavior. “I was about to tell you. Im heading out to Rivet City today. I might not be around for a while. But what we said still stands right?” Andrew asked, seriously. “Trust me, I havent had a serious boyfriend in two years. I think I can wait for you. If we see each other again, ill give love a shot.” Sarah said before pulling her ‘Waster’ into a metal filled hug. The two kissed before they pulled away to arm’s length. “Be right back.” Andrew said softly before they kissed one more time. And before long, Andrew was on his way to Underworld. After that, who knew. But his next lead would be waiting in the giant steel ship known to everyone as Rivet City. @ @While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
