“Hey! This is a training ground, not Goldshire!” My lips were inches from hers when he said that. She turned away, blushing immensely. Angry I was losing my chance, I turned to see who the intruder was. To my surprise, it was someone I knew. From the game, anyways. Unfortunately, it was someone from my ignore list. Perfect… I remember him… jackass kept asking for gold and then tried dueling me when I refused… if I remember right, he was 30 levels lower than me at the time… It was a warrior, easily told by his armor and cocky stance. His armor was actually a set I recognized, one of the earlier warrior tier sets known as the “Battlegear of Might” Old it may have been, but it still looked menacing. His headpiece looked like pates of iron forged together around his neck and jaw, with steel spikes sticking out at the welding points. The shoulderpads were more intricately designed, with two pieces of steel welded together to form the curve. In the center, three spikes lined up, looking similar to a shark’s fins, getting bigger as they approached his head. Two large spikes stuck out in the front and back with a gold base. Around the shark spikes were slight traces of blue metal. His chestpiece was more colorful, the chest being made up of diamond shapes, with colors ranging from silver, to silver with gold lining, to blue with gold lining. Below the chest were three columns of blue, separated by silver, below that being simply iron prongs. His bracers seemed bulkier then they needed to be, but then again, he was a warrior. And bigger is better, right? They were simply silver with gold lining at the ends, with a blue triangle on either side. His gloves were darker than the rest of his gear. On the very top of his hand was a square of blue, and all around that was dark metal, almost black. At the fingers, the first half was covered by gold plating, while the tips were covered by silver. His belt looked very expensive, or at least very well cleaned. It featured silver diamonds with gold trim, full size in the center and stretching around to his sides. His legplates had three rows of colors, gold in between his legs, blue in the center and grey on the outside, all separated into three layers. His boots, like his bracers, seemed bulkier then needed to be. It had a layer of gold, silver, and gold plating, followed by a blue diamond in the center and a gold circle on the outside. His actual feet had blue on the top, followed by layers of silver separated by gold. And now that I think about it, the bright colors throw off the menacing part… He glared at me, though with a gleam in his eyes, knowing that he interrupted a special moment. I couldn’t see his mouth, but I could tell it was raised in a smirk. “Bet you never thought you’d see me again, hm?” I shrugged, not getting up. “I never really gave you a second thought.” His eyes widened, surprised at my wit. “Well, I’m back, and I’m going to make you pay for doubting me. You embarrassed me in front of the entire city, and now I’m going to embarrass you in front of your slut.” Ok, no. I got up immediately after he said that, anger filling me. “She’s not a slut, and she’s not mine. Now get your ugly ass out of here before I destroy it.” I didn’t turn towards Kyli, but I could feel her looking at me. Whether it was in a good or bad way, I couldn’t tell. I wasn’t psychic. Or maybe I was. Realizing that the situation was leaning in his favor, he raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Make me, you wimpy priest.” My mana had returned, and my renewed strength made me eager to fight. As much as I wanted to just kill him, that would probably give me a bad name. “I challenge you!” I said, surprised at the way I had spoken. But what surprised me more was the flag that fell out of the sky. Where the hell did that come from?! The warrior smiled, beginning to pace away. Now that his back was turned, I could see his weapon. It was a deadly looking bastard sword. Its handle looked like it was made of bone, and the blade itself stretched to almost three quarters of his height. It was glowing blue at both ends of the metal, the metal being light green in the center with a steel cropping. There were darker green patterns on both ends. I just hoped I didn’t become too familiar with them. I recognized it, but that didn’t help sate my growing concern. It was “Zin’rokh, Destroyer of Worlds” a legendary blade once held by Hakkar, the Soulflayer. An old weapon, but still menacing. That sounds familiar… “Alright. I accept.” The warrior drew his blade and readied himself. I didn’t have a weapon, but it didn’t matter. I would rely on my magic more anyways. Moments after he said that, I heard a deep bass voice. Whether it was in my head or for everyone to hear, I couldn’t tell. “Three, two,” THE FUCK IS THAT?!? ”One.” Soon after one, the warrior charged. Ohhh shit he can run fast. I ran back slightly, trying to think of what to do. He took a swipe at me with his blade. Expecting to be beheaded, I was surprised to feel something similar to a stick hitting me. I stood still in shock, and he took the chance to hit me more. With each blow, the pain grew, but overall it was surprisingly easy to tolerate. Still, I probably shouldn’t let him beat on me all day…PSYCHIC SCREAM I will never forget that moment. As soon as I cast the spell, he reacted, I immediately ran away, screaming. “THE VOICES! OH MY GOD, THE VOICES!!” I looked for a moment before I laughed. I laughed my ass off. I was rolling on the ground before the spell faded. He looked angry enough to punch a wall. The thought only made me laugh harder. During my hysteria, I heard a bit of music behind me. Guess I’m not the only one who found that funny… Charging me again, the warrior attacked with renewed vigor, his blows becoming stronger and faster. Thinking fast, I realized I hadn’t practiced any healing spells during my training session. That shouldn’t matter; all of my other spells seemed easy. POWER WORD: SHIELD. Immediately, a glowing yellow bubble surrounded me. The warrior continued to strike at me, but I felt nothing. Strangely, I could feel the shield fading, so I quickly went on the offensive. I jumped backwards out of his reach, and quickly cast a number of shadow spells on him. They all started to eat away his strength, I could tell. He winced as he rushed me again, though his initial frenzy had gone. I quickly cast a healing spell on myself, renewing my strength. I tried using Psychic Scream again, intent on using the time instead of wasting it on my ass, but to my surprise, my magic wouldn’t respond. Huh. Cooldowns. Instead, I cast a spell called “Mind Blast”. I guess I should have expected it, but he fell to his knees gripping his head. Damn. Must be one killer headache. I saw that his armor was starting to turn black due to my curses. In the game, once an opponent had reached a certain level of health the duel ended. But this seemed real, I could possibly kill him. So I relented, calling out, “Do you yield?” The warrior struggled to get to his feet, though I could tell he was close to death. “N…Never…” As he said that, he fell face first on to the ground. Thankfully, the creeping darkness on his armor stopped its advance, and faded into nothingness. I started to go over to perhaps check his pulse, but I realized that the areas I could check were covered by inches of metal. So to get to them, I’d have to strip him. I settled for breathing. Yeah, he was breathing. Faintly, but breathing. I suppose it doesn’t make sense that after a duel the loser would have no repercussions. He’ll probably be out for a while. I heard soft clapping behind me. I turned to see Kyli, a small smile on her face. I took a few steps towards her, beginning to smile as well. “Thank you…” I heard her say. I waved my hand, grinning. “It’s my pleasure, I can’t let some punk like that call you a slut and get away with it.” She blushed again, looking at the ground. I stepped closer and hugged her, feeling her hesitate slightly before hugging me back. I heard growling to my left. I grinned and looked at her panther. “What’s the matter boy? Not used to competition?” I realized what I said after I said it. I blushed, looking at Kyli. She looked at me a moment before speaking. “I… ah… I’m sorry but… I want to get to know you first… I was… ahem, acting a bit on impulse…” Damn. Understandable though. I must have looked so pathetic she just had to take pity on me. I smiled nevertheless, offering her my hand. “Well then, let’s start with introductions. We skipped the pleasantries earlier, so let’s try this again. I’m Quill, a humble priest.” Since when in the hell do I talk like that? She smiled in return. She took my hand and shook it, a surprisingly strong grip from her lithe hands. “I’m Kyli, the huntress. And this is Augustus.” She said, motioning to her pet. I recognized the name from somewhere, but I failed to remember what it meant. I smiled at the black panther. “Augustus, hmm? Mind if I call you Gus?” I think the panther just glared at me. Kyli giggled. “That’s actually my nickname for him. He doesn’t really like new people, but if you have any food, he’ll trust you more…” I thought for a moment. Did I have any? “Let me check…” Sure enough, my bag appeared in my hand. I searched through it momentarily before finding some venison. I didn’t know where I got it, but it looked fresh, and had a noticeable layer of salt on it. Pulling it out, Augustus immediately pricked up, sitting on his butt, just like a normal pet would. I don’t think a normal pet could tear me to shreds though… I looked at Kyli to see if I could give it to him, and she nodded, smiling cheerfully. I threw the venison to Augustus, who caught and swallowed it in one bite. “I could have sworn that was at least worth three bites.” I said. Kyli giggled again. Sweet Christ, I’m starting to get butterflies in my stomach when she does that. Seemingly content, Augustus looked at me. I reached out, and with a lack of growling started to scratch his ears. After a moment, he purred contentedly. “See, look, he likes you!” Kyli said. I smiled, looking up at her. She really was perfect. “Well then, I don’t need to train anymore… would you like to take a walk through Elwynn? It’s lovely this time of eve.” Did I really just say that? She didn’t seem to mind, and nodded shyly. I offered her mind hand, which she took happily, leading her out of the training center, Augustus following on her other side. I took one last glance at the warrior. He still lay out cold on the ground. I chuckled to myself. The warrior grinned behind his helmet. Elwynn huh? I’ll be sure to get them there… Kyli and I walked through Stormwind, sharing stories and tales. I felt weird saying everything my character has done in first person, but I seemed to do it automatically. As we were walking out, I saw the same draenei that I saw hours before, walking away from the mailbox. She smiled at me again, winking when she saw me holding hands with Kyli. She whistled loudly, and the event that followed made me and even Kyli stop to watch. A majestic netherwing drake flew out of the sky, seemingly out of nowhere. I could feel the wind its powerful wings produced as it landed, letting the paladin hop on the saddle on its back. She clicked her heels against its sides lightly, and it immediately took off again, leaving behind a trail of blue lights. Holy shit. Can I do that? Hours later… “Oh yea?” I asked. Kyli nodded, smirking. “Well, I’ve taken on 15 of the Quiraj before!” Kyli gasped, thinking of the giant insects. “With or without a paladin taking all the damage?” She asked tauntingly. I smiled. It was a druid. “Without.” She smiled at me, obviously impressed. We had taken a break from our walk. It was now midnight, as we were resting on a log near the river separating Elwynn Forest and Duskwood. We could hear the sound of Goldshire from a distance away, but here it was a dull buzz. Not that we cared. We were too focused on each other. Augustus had settled down between us, sleeping soundly. Our fingers were entwined on his back. He had surprisingly soft fur for being an animal of war. We had talked about all of our adventures, and through the night I had started to believe that I was Quill. I found it odd that in less than a day I had mostly forgotten about my real life. Not that I had much going for me, but still. This world seemed full of adventures, with very little of the stress of my real world. So, in the meantime, I stuck to one of my favorite quotes. Ignorance is bliss. We had stopped talking for a short while and merely watched the moonlight as it danced across the river. Strands of the pale light leaked through the trees, making the magic of the world almost visible, strands of glowing light floating peacefully through the air. There was a light breeze blowing into us, giving us the crisp clean smell of the water. I turned my head and looked at my beautiful companion. She did the same, blushing but holding my gaze. Once again, she started to lean in, her eyes closing partway. A bit more romantic, I think. I leaned in as well, awaiting her tender touch. A felt something hard hit me in the back of the head. Everything began fading into blackness. God damnit, not again.
