Knocked back by the impact, the dummy burst into flames, scorching the already dead earth around it. The flames roared around the helpless lump of wood as they consumed it quickly, leaving behind only a small pile of ash and smoldering cinders. Moments later, however, the ash began to swirl, piecing the dummy back together in seconds. Standing tall once more, the dummy received another fireball to the face. “That’s awesome.” Quill chuckled, one arm around Kyli, a fair distance from where Serenity stood. Augustus lay beside them, basking in the sun’s glow. As promised, once the sun rose he had taken her to the training grounds. After a brief lesson, he had taught Serenity how to use her spells. He smiled, remembering how excited he was when he first learned. Serenity raised her hands again, forming another sphere of magical fire in her palm, flinging it at a nearby unsuspecting dummy. It too, burst into flames and was quickly destroyed. Serenity jumped, her hands flying to her chest, a thrilled squeal escaping her lips. Kyli giggled at the sight, and, her laughter being contagious as always, earned another from Quill. He squeezed her slightly in his one armed embrace. Never get tired of that… Serenity turned towards her two spectators. “Ooo this is fun! What spell should I use next?” Quill raised a hand to his chin thoughtfully. “How about frostbolt?” Serenity beamed as she turned around, raising her hands. This time, a frost aura appeared around them as she pointed her hand, palm out, towards a recently rebuilt dummy. A large icicle looking bolt of magic shot out of her hand, exploding into small snowflakes once it hit the dummy. The dummy instantly seemed to freeze, icicles forming from various points along it’s frame. They quickly melted though, and within ten seconds or so they had vanished, leaving the dummy unscathed, save for a small indent where the original magic bolt had hit it. Pausing for a moment, Serenity raised her hand again, a white sphere of magic surrounding it. Small bolts of magic, four at a time, shot out of her hand and zoomed at various angles towards the dummy, each bolt hitting it precisely in the chest. At least four rounds of this assault went on before she lowered her hand, admiring her handiwork. The dummy had been blown apart, each of the individual limbs scattered among the other dummies. They all began to shift, and soon were headed back to their original locations, re-attaching and filling in any indents left. Serenity turned around again, a delighted smile on her face. “I can blow stuff up!” While Kyli giggled, Quill merely smiled. Isn’t that what I thought? Another thought occurred to him. “Hey, Serenity!” He called out. Having turned back around to continue her slaughter of the defenseless dummies, the draenei paused, facing him once more. “What’s your specialization?” A flash of confusion crossed her face before it was cleared with recognition. “Ah! I’m arcane.” Quill nodded. “Why don’t you try Arcane Barrage then, or Arcane Blast?” Serenity nodded, her huge smile once again on her face. Channeling her magic, she instantly created three pulsating orbs of white magic. They sped towards the dummy directly in front of her, spiraling and leaving a long tail behind them. Once it made contact with the dummy, a small white explosion occurred, Blowing off the dummy’s arms and head, but leaving the body intact. They zoomed back together as she began casting again. There was Barrage… how about Blast? Focusing for a few seconds, Serenity quickly pointed her hands at the dummy. There was no visible connection between the two, but a white explosion appeared on the dummy, much like the after effects of Arcane Barrage, but much larger. The blast blew the entire dummy to shreds, chunks of wood flying in all directions. Before some even hit the ground, they paused, flying back to reform once more. As they floated inward, Serenity brought out a small combination of spells. First, she seemed to blink out of existence, reappearing a short ways in front of where she was standing, right where the dummy was supposed to reform. The pieces swirled around her as she raised both hands in the air. A shockwave of magic exploded from within her, the quickly expanding sphere of raw magic shattering the already fragmented remains of the dummy. Splinters of wood fell to the ground around her, as she stepped away, the dummy reappearing moments later. Seems like a glutton for punishment. Stepping forward, Quill released Kyli as he applauded softly, muffled even more so by his gloves. “Well done, Arcane Explosion all by yourself.” Serenity beamed at him. “I know!” Tilting his head slightly to one side, Quill winked at her. “But then you can fight those poor dummies all day… care for a little more challenge?” Realization dawned on her face. “You mean…” Quill nodded, parting his legs slightly. “I challenge you.” Immediately, a duel flag fell out of the sky, planting itself in the ground between the two. Serenity jumped, wobbling a little as she landed. “Where the hell did that come from?” Quill laughed, shrugging. “Just go with it. Do you accept or not?” Serenity eyed him, a small smirk appearing on her face. “You’re on.” Quill smiled as he saw the look of utter confusion on her face as the voice began its countdown. “Three…Two…One.” During which, Quill surrounded himself with holy magic, shielding himself from harm. Deciding to make the first move, Quill cast a spell he had used more frequently later in his time here. It was called Smite, and did just that, smiting a for with a strike of holy magic. After the few moments of casting, he unleashed it, hitting Serenity in the chest. She staggered backwards, clutching the impact site, which happened to be her left breast. Quill paused, distracted by the display. He then noticed a sly grin on her face. Distracted by boobs. That is completely unfair. She launched a fireball towards him, but it simply vanished into his shield, not harming him in the slightest. She soon followed up by a jolt of arcane magic, using Arcane Blast, Despite not feeling the attack, Quill staggered backwards. She cast it once more, weakening his shield further. Alright, that’s enough. Quill began to cast a spell known as Mind Spike. It fused shadow and frost damage into one headache of an attack. As he charged his magic, though, he suddenly felt it cut off. His magic simply wouldn’t respond to him. He looked at his hands, confused for a moment before realizing that Serenity had used Counterspell, a spell used to lock an opponent’s magic from use. Clever girl. As she cast Arcane Blast again, he felt his shield finally vanish, actually feeling part of the spell. Grimacing, he ran towards her. Once he was within range, he let out an unearthly yell, a faint purple circle forming around his feet and spreading slightly before fading. Serenity’s eyes filled with fear as she abandoned the spell she was casting and fled, screaming. “THE VOICES! MAKE THEM STOP!!!” Quill grinned, watching her run. Never gets old… Using the moment to his advantage, Quill attempted again to use Mind Spike, relieved to see his magic responding again. He cast the spell, and two shafts of what seemed like frozen blackness appeared above her head, quickly jutting into it. Though he knew the spikes were simply magic and wouldn’t actually penetrate anything, he still grimaced every time he saw it. He had cast Mind Spike once more before the effects of Psychic Scream wore off, Serenity looking at him with a fierce determination. Quill grinned, ready to finish it off with a Mind Blast when Serenity did something unexpected. She created a shield of her own, though unlike Quill’s, it was a sky blue color. Grinning, Quill completed his spell. While the attack didn’t harm her physically, he knew it would drain her mana. The shield she had erected was a Mana Shield. It sacrificed the user’s mana in exchange for health. While sparing her life energy, a mage’s mana was all they had, so once the shield wore down, she was as good as done. Quill grinned, quickly casting a buff on himself known as Power Infusion. Simply put, it allowed him to cast spells at a faster speed and with less mana cost. He began casting a barrage of spells, quickly eating up her mana. Once the shield had dissipated, the spells began attacking her health. As Quill was about to cast his final spell, Serenity again surprised him. She raised her hands in a defiant pose, freezing herself in a tomb of ice. Quill halted his spell, knowing it was useless. Walking forward, he tapped a few times on the ice. It was quickly melting, And Quill waited for her to become exposed once more. Suddenly, Serenity and the ice vanished. Quill took a step back, wondering where she had gone when he felt a surge of magic hit him in the back. He turned to see Serenity casting another spell, an empty mana vial on the ground. Knowing she was low on health, Quill cast one of the first spells he learned how to use, Shadow Word: Death. Two prongs of dark magic appeared on either side of the draenei, stabbing into her chest simultaneously. She fell to her knees, the magic fading from her hands. The duel flag uprooted itself and returned to whence it came. Quill stepped towards Serenity, his hands already preparing for the spell he was going to cast. “Not bad. Not bad at all. You surprised me a few times.” Serenity smiled weakly at him, slowly standing up. Quill paused a few feet from her, completing his spell of renewal. Faint golden streams of magic surrounded the draenei for a moment before fading. She sighed as she felt her strength renewed. “Thanks… that was fun.” Quill nodded, looking over at Kyli. She was applauding softly. Augustus just gave him a funny look. “Heh, just be glad I didn’t put you up against her.” Quill said, jerking his thumb at the elf. ‘”She could kick my ass.” Serenity smirked. Walking back over to Kyli, the two of them sat down. Quill’s hand found itself nestled in Kyli’s, something he didn’t consciously register. “So,” Serenity began, leaning back and resting on her hands. “Now that I know how to defend myself… where should I start looking?” Quill looked up at her, his eyes concerned. “You need to know… he knows you’re going to look for him. He’s probably watching us right now.” Serenity gasped, glancing around. Not finding anything, her face assumed a pouting expression. Quill sighed, leaning forward and looking down. “Listen… this guy is really dangerous. You don’t know what he can do.” “I know…” Serenity said, a little confidently. “But he’s the only one. So, I need to find him. Where should I start?” Quill sighed once more, his heart heavy. He feared for her. “I would recommend the Cathedral of Light, a number of people tend to gather there… but they’re stuck up and close mouthed at best, so it might not be the best place to ask… I suppose you could try Goldshire… people love to talk there, among other things.” Serenity giggled. “I guess. Well, if that’s my only lead, I might as well take it.” She stood up, brushing off her robes and setting her face in a determined expression. “Thank you, for everything. I might come back sometime, if I need more help…” Quill nodded. “I’ll be in town for a while, drop in anytime.” Serenity nodded, walking out of the training area. Quill listened to her hoof steps until they faded. “You like her, don’t you?” Kyli asked, a slightly worried tone in her voice. Quill looked up at her. He realized he was being rude to her. “Oh, no… it’s just… let’s just say we’ve had a similar experience.” Kyli tilted her head, her face expressing her curiosity. Well… Guess she had to know eventually… “Come on.” Quill said, getting up and tugging gently at her hand. “I’ll explain everything…” Kyli followed his lead, not needing to alert Augustus to follow. “See, it started when…” Quill and Kyli rested on the bank of Olivia’s Pond, a small body of water just behind Stormwind. Quill was sitting, with Kyli sitting next to him, her head resting on his shoulder. His arm was around her midsection, his other hand joined with hers in their laps. Augustus sat behind them, the large cat fast asleep. They sat in silence for a moment before Kyli spoke. “So… you’re not of this world…” Quill nodded, remaining silent. Kyli closed her eyes. “And… you want to leave…?” Quill shifted slightly, forcing her head off of his shoulder. He kept his arm around her, gazing into her pale eyes. “Not for anything.” Kyli closed her eyes again, a single tear falling down her perfect face. Quill reached up, wiping the tear away with his thumb. He gently placed his hand under her chin, forcing her to look at him. “I… didn’t want to stay in this world when I first came here. I was eager to get out. Eager to find that man, just as Serenity is. But then…” He paused, his heart swelling. “Then I met you. You changed everything… I wouldn’t leave you, not for all the gold in the world, nor all the power of the void.” As Quill spoke, Kyli’s face brightened, her gaze being enveloped in love for him. “Not for the most powerful King’s throne, not for the Titan’s limitless knowledge… I would go to the ends of the earth for you, Kyli… I love you…” Kyli sniffled, more tears filling her eyes, but for a much different reason. She leaned forward slightly, pressing her forehead against his. “Forever and always…” He heard her whisper. “Forever and always…” he whispered in return, leaning in to embrace her. The man of shadows watched the two lovers from across the lake, the long lost traces of a genuine smile on his face. He turned away, fading into the night as the sun set on the world.
