Keba paced the small room in a few short strides, he was on edge, his nerves frayed from being stuck in one place for so long, two day’s and Hadrian hadn’t moved, he wished he could have thought of anywhere else to hide but Keba knew the small farm house was the last place anyone would look for him, for one everyone in the order knew how much he hated being anywhere near Tsumi village and for another no one in the order knew he had rebuild his family’s farm house, it pained him to rebuild the farm but he couldn’t bear to see it in the chard and crumbled state it had once been in, so he’d saved up and rebuilt the house even if he could hardly stand staying in it, frustrated he paced back to the door leading to the houses small bedroom, his gaze falling on the silver haired man sleeping on the bed.
In the bedroom where Hadrian was sleeping, sun shown into a small window, as the light fell on the sleeping man’s closed eyes, pale eye lids fluttered in sleep as Hadrian began to wake from his two day slumber ‘so bright’ he thought as he tried to turn his head away from the light “a-am I dead?” not realizing he had said it out loud. Hearing the mumbled question Keba snorted “not yet but if I have to carry you around one more time I might just dump you in the river, and just how long are you planning on laying there, I think two days is plenty of time to sleep my lazy friend” Setting up Hadrian studied the room, grey rock walls and wood flooring there were no decorations or furniture save the bed he sat on and a small table and chairs he could see through the doorway Keba currently propped against, “where am I?” “a small farm just outside of Tsumi village, they won’t look for use here for a while, everyone in the order knows I hate being near Tsumi and no one knows this house is here” pushing from the door Keba motioned with his hand “come on get up it’s time to eat” Hadrian sat stunned his eyes wide in horror as the words Keba had said sunk in and a bubble of cold fear settled in the pit of his stomach “we-we are where?” he suddenly felt weighted down as if lead weights were strapped to his body “wait-WAIT! I can’t be here, no I don’t WANT to be here-“but before he could say any more his stomach gave a painful lurch and a grumble letting Hadrian know just how long he was out. Grabbing his middle with both hands he blushed thinking to himself ‘I really have to stop doing that’ looking up pitifully at Keba still blushing slightly he was at a loss as what to say and he had this awful feeling that he looked a lot worse than how he felt. Keba snickered as Hadrian’s hunger overcame his other complaints “eat first, neither of us wants to be here but taking time to eat and recover are important” turning he lead the way to the table, pushing the thin man into one of the chairs Keba fetched bowls from a small cabinet above the small wood powered stove, spooning out rice porridge with bits of dried fruit in it, he set one of the bowls in front of Hadrian “eat” Looking down at the bowl of food Hadrian felt his stomach growl in impatiens, reaching out with shaky hands he realized how starved he really was, all but inhaling his food the pale necromancer felt the hunger pains ease up till they left completely. “ugh I didn’t know I was that hungry” feeling awkward again he looked up to meet surprised brown eyes “so-sorry …I really don’t get to eat a lot, so …um, thanks …Keba.” Looking down again Hadrian ran the tip of his sharp nails on the edge of the now empty bowl wondering what he should do, ‘running away would be a good idea, I’m causing him way too much trouble already’ he thought to himself. Keba gave what he hoped was a reassuring smile “it’s no problem, would you like more?” Gritting his teeth, Hadrian stood straight up almost knocking over his chair, Keba jumped up as well, his assassin training causing him to have a sudden reaction to sudden movements. Without looking up Hadrian spoke “I’m sorry for everything, but I have to leave” with that he bolted for the front door and Keba went after him. Rushing out into the bright sunlight Keba blinked to clear the spots from his eyes, before he followed Hadrian up the rough dirt path that wound through the lush green grass and rows of farm crops “hey wait a minute” Hadrian ignored his call and Keba clinched his fists irritated by the thin man’s constant running away, was the only time the man stood still when he was passed out? Continuing along the path that came to a hill that was flat at the top the ground worn down by years of use as a local gathering spot for festivals, Hadrian stopped at the far side of the flat circle, stopping just behind him Keba crossed his arms “why are you so eager to leave Hadrian, do you hate this place or are you just eager to be away from me?” Panting softly from his run Hadrian spun around and glared “you have no idea what I am!” he shouted “I’m cursed! How could you even want to be near me!” Keba shook his head “I don’t believe in curses and your all the proof I have that I didn’t fail my mission and I’m not a traitor” “I am cursed why do you think I haven’t been here in twenty some odd years!” Hadrian shouted starting to feel more nervous as he spoke. “I’m a monster I can’t be here don’t you understand” Keba lost his patience the necromancer wasn’t making sense “why! Why do you think you’re cursed, why can’t you be here give me reasons Hadrian!” Hadrian snapped, claws reached out and grabbed Keba around the neck so fast even Hadrian didn’t realize what he was doing, “I’m a monster ….” He spoke in a dangerously low tone “I killed my own parents…I started the plague when I was born, its why I was banished from here 20 years ago!” he didn’t notice that he was hurting Keba till the faint smell of blood reached him and he saw that his claws were starting to sink into Keba’s neck, gasping softly he let go and closed his eyes while sliding his hands down to grip onto the assassin’s green shirt “…I’m sorry” Ignoring the sting in his neck Keba reached down and griped Hadrian’s shoulders “you’re wrong, you’re birth has nothing to do with the plague, and I’m guessing your parents died of the plague, it’s not your fault Hadrian, the fact that you haven’t killed me when you’ve had several chances to tells me you’re not the monster you think you are” Hadrian shook his head “I’m sorry….for everything, for what I said back at the cemetery, I’m just a burden to you” pushing away from Keba he walked away a little to stand close to the edge of the cliff, looking out at the rolling hills of farmland Hadrian was a little surprised at how nice Tsumi looked from the last time he was here. Hadrian took a calming breath and closed his eyes trying to calm himself down. After a moment of silence Hadrian looked down at his bloodied claws, so strange and frightening even to himself, “Keba?…” Keba frowned “what is it?” “…kill me …I don’t care how you do it, I won’t fight you so please just kill me and you can go back to your life and you won’t be labeled a traitor.” Hadrian finished in a clam even tone, he closed his eyes and waited for the killing blow whatever it may be. Keba sighed and moved forward “hold still, this shouldn’t hurt” he noticed the faint tremors running through the small frame and the tension in Hadrian’s thin shoulders, stopping right behind him Keba slipped his hands around Hadrian’s waist and pulled him back against his chest, resting his forehead against the top of Hadrian’s head he murmured “what am I going to do with you” Hadrian shivered and Keba pressed a kiss to his temple “if you don’t want to be a burden to me stop trying to throw your life away, and if you really want to help me then accompany me to meet with Master Ookami and help me explain that you’re not the necromancer we were hired to kill” releasing the thin man Keba stepped away prepared for anything Hadrian had to throw at him. Hadrian spun around and looked wide eyed at Keba, not because of the kiss, well maybe that too, but mostly because after everything he did Keba still wanted to be near him and even go so far as to want to help him surely the man had lost his mind, at least that’s what Hadrian thought, “bu-but I hurt you!” Hadrian could feel his body start to shake even more, not on the outside but almost as if everything on the inside was being torn apart and shaken to the very core quickly making its way out, “I-I’ve done awful things to you, your blood is on my hands! Does that not anger you?” he felt like he was falling apart all over again, these new feelings of being cared for and wanted were scaring him to death, after years of never have been shown affection of any kind left him feeling confused and afraid, of Keba and himself. Keba shook his head “and your blood is on my hands, dose that anger you? We’re more alike than you think Hadrian” Said man was at a loss for words, shaking his head and grabbed the side of his face with bloodied fingers leaving dark red smudges, “no NO! it’s not the same …somehow-“ but as Hadrian was talking he took a step back not sure what he was doing “hu-?” was all he could get out as he started to fall backwards momentarily forgetting how close to the edge he really was. Keba’s sharps senses allowed him to react fast and he rushed toward the falling necromancer “where do you think you’re going?” he almost sounded amused at the frail man who was now safely back on terra firma and clinging to him, a little if not more shaken up than before. Hadrian had the sudden epiphany that maybe dying was not an option with this man. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
