“Commander Williams? Thanks for doing this.” Diana Allers said as Ashley Williams entered the ship's starboard observation room.

“It's fine. You do understand this is strictly casual, though? Other than that, you've got me all to yourself.” The marine said, parking her fine ass on a couch opposite Allers.

“Of course, Commander. If you can leave your work at the door, I can do the same.” Diana smiled.

“Though with the way this war is going, who knows how I long can do that for?” Ashley joked, sharing a smile with the reporter.

“I made coffee.” Allers said, sliding a steaming cup across the table towards the soldier. “No offense, but you look like you could use it, Commander.”

“Thanks.” Ashley said, taking the offered cup. Shooting a quick, uncertain glance at Allers, Williams brought the drink to her lips and took a sip.

The two women were silent for a short moment, content to drink and relax in each others' presence.

“You look tired. Are you tired?” Diana asked, leaning forwards, giving Ashley a good, if unwanted, view of the reporter's cleavage.

“No. 'M fine.” Ashley breathed. She closed her eyes for a good few seconds, before seemingly jolting awake.

“Sorry. I guess fighting Cerberus troops really does take it out of you.” Ashley said, brushing a few strands of her glossy brown hair out of her eyes.

“So that was where you, Commander Shepard and his pet Prothean went today, huh?” Allers asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah. Some ex-Cerberus guys on Arrae got in contact with us, wanting our help. It got messy. Cerberus doesn't take to kindly to defectors, apparently. I think Shepard knew one of the guys there.” Ashley told Diana.

“Interesting.” Diana hummed. She hadn't been expecting Williams to spill the beans so soon. The marine was already slouching in her seat and her eyelids sure looked heavy.

“Why don't you finish your coffee?” Allers suggested. Ashley nodded, picking the cup up and draining another inch of the hot brew.

“But enough about me. I've got something I- Something I wanted to ask you.” Ashley said, her speech punctuated by a lazy yawn.

“I'm all ears, Commander.”Allers smiled, sitting back, her legs crossed.

“Scuttlebutt's got a few rumours about you.” Ashley began. With some effort, she pushed herself up in her seat. “I've heard you like to.. integrate with the crew in pretty unconventional ways.”

“I think I may have heard crewmen whispering things to that effect when I walked by.” Diana lied.

“I've gotta know: Is there any truth to it, or is it just the usual military jackassery? I'm telling you, some of the men I've served with shouldn't be allowed near a woman, even one who's bellowing orders at them. I can see why they'd talk.” Ashley said. Allers had a feeling she might've let that last part slip accidentally.

“I'm a reporter, Commander. Socialising with people is part of my job. A big part. My favourite part, maybe.” Diana said.

“But the kind of “socialising” I hear mentioned is the same sort you can't do with that dress on.” Ashley said. Showed what she knew, Allers thought. The Commander was slouching again. Her coffee cup had been drained dry, and hanging on Diana's answer seemed to be the only thing keeping her awake.

“Well, this is war. We've all got to blow off steam...” Diana smirked. Ashley's hazy eyes widened.

“Holy shit, it's true?” She gasped.

“Come on, I'm sure you've considered doing the same damn thing.” The slutty reporter ventured.

“The hell I have. No wonder some of the guys treat women like dirt. They've got their very own juvenile fantasy aboard.” Ashley said slowly. She was still awake, but was taking her time, as if choosing her words carefully. The first hints of a slur were creeping into her voice, too.

“I don't see why you get to judge, Commander. I don't like it.” Diana said, her voice and face betraying no emotion.

“I don't like sharing a ship with someone like you!” Ashley retorted. Diana leaned forwards, opening her legs.

“And what, pray tell, is “someone like me”?” Diana smiled, her green eyes glittering.

“A-a whore!” Ashley slurred. The fact she was awake right now, her ass hanging off the couch, was a testament to her strength.

“Well, I can't argue with that.” Diana replied.

“Forget... about it. Let's... change... the subject...” Ashley struggled to speak, her words trailing off into snores as sleep finally engulfed her.

“Really? But the conversation was just getting good!” Allers giggled. What Williams hadn't been aware of was that, ten minutes before she'd arrived, Diana had dropped enough sleeping pills to put out a battalion of krogan into Ashley's coffee. They had shared coffee, the cups were still on the table, but what they had talked about escaped the Spectre's mind. Diana must've let herself out after she drifted off.

Judging by how contented she felt, one thing was certain; Allers made a damn good cup of coffee.
