Chapter 4: The Amazing Absorbent Shepard Once her legs started working again, Shepard dragged Garrus to the shower for cleanup. She taught him how to wash her hair and laughed at his horrified expression when a few strands came away in his claws. “It does that,” she assured him, and Garrus hoped she wasn’t lying for his sake. It was strange how absorbent she seemed to be. Water rolled right off of turians, but Shepard’s hair had darkened like a wet shirt and her fingertips were wrinkling. “I’m getting pruney,” she declared reluctantly. “Time to get out.” They dried off and Shepard managed to fashion some sort of headdress out of the damp towel. Garrus stared at her in awe. “What?” she asked self-consciously. “How did you do that?” “Do what?” “That.” Garrus pointed to her head. Shepard reached a hand up to the towel. “Oh, you just sort of twist—“ She stopped herself and tugged at the headdress until it came apart. “Another time,” she promised. “Right now I need sleep.” This was the part of the night Garrus had been dreading. Would she want him to stay? Leave? He wasn’t sure what the human protocol was. Shepard climbed underneath the covers, wet hair splayed across the pillow. Garrus looked toward the door, and bent to pick up his pants.
