Rock growled as he fought, firing his buster without mercy, targeting each and every robot without care. Normally he would have worried about others getting in the way or the fact he was harming another life, but not this time. This time he found it easy to attack them, use the landscape to his advantage, show no mercy. This time he wasn’t out to stop Wily’s forces, this time he was out to destroy them for good.
A small part of his mind told him that wasn’t right, that it wasn’t he himself speaking but another force, one that was dark, foreboding, one that should have made his digital soul tremble with fear. It was a primeval darkness, one that was older than he could have ever imagined. A darkness borne from not only the genius of a madman, but of the spawn he had created.
Rock nearly faltered, nearly allowed Coldman to get a sold hit in. He cursed under his breath, not seeming to care if he swore or not. All he cared about was the song of battle that rang through his systems, spurring him on no matter what.
Is this what it’s like for you? Rockman dimly mused, is this why you fight with your whole heart? Is it because that lust for battle overrides anything and everything else?
When he sensed movement behind him, Rockman twisted, firing quickly with his buster before leaping sideways to avoid a bolt of lightning, cursing again when he slipped on ice. He was used to fighting against one robot, but not two at once.
Rock growled as he rose, darting out of the way of a bolt of lightning, firing his buster at random, hoping to hit someone.
“Too slow, too slow,” Coldman said with a laugh, “you’re going to be easier to pick off than that traitor Forte was.”
“You forget,” Rockman said as he shifted, dashing straight toward Coldman, “I never lose.”
“There’s always a first,” Coldman said before he opened the doors to his ‘chest’ and created a spiked wall of ice.
“Not today,” Rock growled out as he leapt, kicking off the ice wall. He fired his buster as fast as he could, aiming for the still open doors to Coldman’s chest.
Coldman didn’t have time to register what had happened before the shots struck, detonating his internal systems.
Rockman shielded his face at the explosion as he landed, slipping on some ice. He growled in frustration, barely rolling out of the way of a direct lightning strike even though the raw energy danced along the ice and over his armor. It stung, but not as badly as if he had been hit directly.
When he sensed another lightning bolt headed toward him, Rockman scrambled to his feet and out of the way, firing in the direction the bolt had come from. When his radar picked up several incoming objects he dashed away, yelping at the multitude of explosions near him. He only stopped when the radar was clear, looking back at the ruins the explosions had made. “No … ” he said softly, “not the city … there are innocents here … “
“Wily doesn’t care who lives or dies so long as he gets you,” a voice cackled from not too far away.
Rockman turned and narrowed his eyes. “Napalmman … ” he nearly growled out.
“Now this is a change,” Napalmman said with a chuckle, “who would have thought that Rockman, defender of the weak, would actually growl at a robot?”
“This is different,” Rockman said the growl still in his voice, buster before him, “I won’t let you get away with this. I will destroy all of you!”
“Then try it, little man,” Napalmman said as he shifted, arching his shoulders back, “and watch me engulf this city in the flames of your own pyre!”
Rockman dashed out of the way as Napalmman launched the missiles from his shoulders, trying to lead the walking weapon away from the city and to places where his artillery could do less damage. Even if his heart sang for battle now, his compassion mostly tempered the risk to the city.
Every so often he would fire blindly behind him, hoping to slow, or preferably stop, Napalmman’s reign of destruction. When the heat from an explosion seemed to sear his back right off, Rock stumbled, rolling with the force plus his own speed, crashing against the side of a building. Winded, he rose and shook his head, yelping as he tried to move out of the way when he saw two missiles headed straight for him.
“Tengu Blade!”
Rockman brought his buster up to shield his face from the explosion as both missiles detonated before they could reach him. He looked up at the hovering form of Tenguman, arms crossed as he glared down at Napalmman.
“So, you’ve decided to defect as well? I guess I’ll just have to stop that too, won’t I?” Napalmman said as he shifted his weapons toward Tenguman.
“You forget, dear former brother, that we now have a real purpose in life,” Tenguman said, “one that does not require us to follow the wishes of a madman.”
“Then die like the traitorous dog you are, Tenguman,” Napalmman all but hissed before he released a barrage of missiles toward the more agile air-based robot.
Rockman rose, firing at Napalmman now that he was occupied with Tenguman. He charged a shot and let it go, hoping one shot might trigger one of the installed missiles to self destruct. However, he cursed when the shots failed to do what he wanted them to, even if it caused Napalmman to stagger backwards a step.
“You pest,” Napalmman hissed as he shifted to fire at Rockman.
Rockman dashed out of the way, nearly slipping on a melting piece of ice Coldman had left behind.
“Tornado Hold!” Tenguman shouted.
“Centaur Flash,” Centaurman shouted as he galloped past Rockman.
“What?” Napalmman nearly shouted as he found himself trapped in a barrier of wind, only to be hit by a painfully bright light.
“This is your end,” Tenguman said, “Tengu Blade!”
“Centaur Arrow!”
Rockman released his own charged shot even as Tenguman’s blade pierced the wind barrier and embedded itself into Napalmman’s chest and Centaurman’s arrow landed close to it. His own shot struck the first two weapons, driving them even further into the robot.
“Die!” Napalmman shouted as he prepared to launch more missiles. However, when the missiles launched they struck the wind barrier and detonated, causing a chain reaction that not only dispersed the wind barrier but tore Napalmman’s own body to shreds.
“Thanks,” Rockman said.
“You are most welcome,” Tenguman said, “he was an irritant anyway … “
“I’ve searched, but have yet to find any more of our brothers save for Cloudman and Stoneman,” Centaurman said as he pawed the ground, his equine end shifting, tail flicking in agitation, “the latter who I know will join our cause.”
“Maybe Forte was wrong and Wily lied about how many there were after us?” Rockman asked.
“I’ll go in search of Cloudman,” Tenguman said, “you two should find Stoneman and subdue him.”
“We should stick together,” Centaurman said as he looked over at Rockman.
Rockman nodded. “Let’s go.”
“Get on my back, we can travel faster that way,” Centaurman said.
Rockman nodded again as he swung onto Centaurman’s back and held onto the centaur-based robot’s back armor.
Centaurman took off on a dead gallop, leaping over obstacles with ease, never once stopping or slipping, much to Rockman’s relief. He knew, no matter what, he had to stay on alert. He couldn’t rely on his new ally to do all the work for him.
He wasn’t that weak, after all.
Rockman nearly slipped off of Centaurman’s back when the robot leapt over a piece of debris. He knew he wasn’t weak. Inside he was strong. His heart was strong. His sense of kindness was strong … Though it made him sick inside to think that he almost put the raw power at his disposal over the needs of others. Yes, he had to be strong physically to best his enemies, but it wasn’t like he really wanted to fight. He knew where those thoughts came from and he couldn’t help but shiver at just how much he had changed inside.
At least you don’t have to live with this madness anymore, Rockman thought, at least you can live your life without those dark thoughts.
"Damn it," Centaurman swore before he veered quickly to the left.
Rockman squeaked as he held on for dear life, his thoughts broken. He winced when the heat of a sudden explosion washed over him.
“Come out, Ballade,” Centaurman said as he shifted, his hindquarters moving as he looked around, trying to locate the enemy, no doubt.
“What? And give up my advantage?” a voice said from somewhere around them, “I think not.”
“And you think those toys of yours are going to stop us?” Centaurman said, his shield now on his arm.
“Step on one of my Ballade Crackers and see just how long you can stand when it blows a leg off,” Ballade said, “even with three you won’t be going anywhere and you’ll be a sitting duck for Power Stone.”
Rockman growled as he leapt off of Centaurman’s back, trying to pinpoint where Ballade was.
“He could be an ally,” Centaurman said low, “remember that before you destroy him. He could also be a useful tool.”
Rockman hesitated at that before nodding. He dashed away, wondering how he was going to get to Ballade without destroying him. Assuming he could be turned to their side. He knew having another ally would benefit them, especially since it would take another robot out of Wily’s hands.
When he rounded a corner he was surprised to see the purple-armored robot before him, a tri shaped object in his hand.
“Now that you’re away from that traitor I can deal with you,” Ballade said.
“I’m not as easy to take down as you think,” Rockman said as he narrowed his eyes.
Ballade laughed at that. “Considering I’m the strongest robot there is? I don’t think so.”
“Better not let someone else hear that or he’ll tear you to shreds,” Rockman said, “assuming there’s anything left of you when I get done.”
Ballade seemed confused at that. “You’re not the Rockman I remember. I wouldn’t expect you to remember me. I’m nothing but a lowly robot to you. Something not even worth your time, even though I helped you escape from one of Wily’s rooms … “
Rockman hesitated at that as he tried to think back, going through any indexed references in his memory banks for Ballade. His eyes went wide when he found the data.
“Oh, so you do remember?” Ballade said, “I’m surprised.”
“You destroyed yourself to blow a hole in the wall,” Rockman said, “because you had lost to me.”
Ballade nodded. “Because of Wily’s programming, I’m afraid this time I can’t help you out. It’s too strong for me to fight.”
“Because you told me about it means it’s not stronger than you are,” Rockman said, “if it was, then you would have just attacked me without mercy instead of talking.”
Ballade chuckled. “Ah, logic. Something the Wily robots lack. Unlike us RKN numbers.”
“I remember now,” Rockman said, “you were designed to be my killers, but all of you failed.”
“Pity, too,” Ballade said, “considering Enker and I loved to get into philosophical arguments.”
Rockman blinked at that, unsure what to make of this. “So, Wily didn’t rebuild him?”
“Oh, he did,” Ballade said, “but the programming affected Enker more than it did me. He lost his interest in debates. Made for a boring life.”
“Is he here, fighting?” Rockman asked.
“Somewhere,” Ballade said, “why? Are you going to destroy him after you are done with me?”
Rockman shook his head as he removed one of the bracelets Doctor Right had given him. “I’m going to free you from Wily’s control.”
“That is impossible,” Ballade said before he tossed his bomb at Rockman, “nothing can destroy his programming.”
Rockman dashed toward Ballade, leaping over the thrown weapon. He landed and quickly threw his body back so he could slide under another thrown Ballade Cracker, the first one exploding far enough behind him he barely felt the heat from it. At the last second he righted himself, slamming into the other robot as he quickly got a bracelet on his wrist.
Ballade screamed at that, a hand going to his head in pain, even as he tried to curl in on himself.
Rockman stayed by his side despite the dangers, worried over what was going on. Even if was just for a moment, his natural kindness overrode Forte’s madness long enough he could feel compassion for another.
After what seemed like an eternity, Ballade fell still, breathing hard. “I-I never imagined … To be free of Wily’s control … “
“Will you help us?” Rockman asked, relieved beyond belief that the bracelet had saved one of them.
“Will you let me save Enker?” Ballade asked instead, “even though we are, by rights, supposed to kill you?”
“Do you want to kill me?” Rockman asked, hoping Ballade would answer the question correctly.
Ballade chuckled weakly even as he sat, opening his eyes to look at Rockman. “What if I said no?”
Rockman smiled in relief at that. “Then let’s go save your friend.”
Ballade nodded. “How … how did you know that would work?”
“It’s a blocking device dad came up with,” Rockman said, “he’ll finish removing Wily’s control on you after we’ve driven the others back.” Or destroyed them, he silently added. Either way was fine with him.
Ballade echoed the nod. “How many of us are you trying to save?”
“Tenguman and Centaurman have already been saved,” Rockman said, “you probably heard of how they were tortured by Wily when they helped me to escape. Forte brought them back and dad rebuilt them.”
“Hmm … ” Ballade said, “Stoneman might also make a good ally, considering his heart isn’t as evil as you might suspect.”
“That’s what Forte kinda hinted at,” Rockman said, remembering how Forte had mentioned about catching Tenguman sharing porn with Centaurman and Stoneman, let alone that the robotic centaur had said basically the same thing.
“I know where he is,” Ballade said, “I can get close to him and subdue the walking rock before he could react.”
Rockman nodded as he handed a bracelet over to Ballade. “We’ll get Stoneman first. Tenguman was going after Cloudman. Forte had to go back to dad for repairs.”
“I know,” Ballade said, “I heard the chatter over the radio. Searchman was priding himself for sniping Forte out of the sky.”
“He won’t be when I get my hands on him,” Rockman growled out, having no idea that Gospel had already taken care of the military-type robot.
“Let us concern ourselves with those who can be saved first,” Ballade said, “follow, but from a distance. I’ll make it look like you’re chasing me. That way Stoneman will be caught off guard and I can get this on him.”
“Thanks for helping,” Rockman said.
Ballade nodded, giving Rockman a faint smile. He rose before he turned and sprinted off, every so often tossing one of his Ballade Crackers behind him.
Rockman dodged around the bombs, firing his buster, making sure to miss the purple-armored robot, sometimes coming close, just so no one would get suspicious and think he was really trying not to hurt Ballade. Even if that was just what he was doing.
“Stoneman,” he heard Ballade shout, out of breath, “get that blue pest off of my tail.”
Stoneman blinked before nodding, raising a hand just before the ground started to shake.
Rockman yelped as a huge stone, almost shaped like a hand, rose from the ground and sped toward him, tearing up the asphalt.
Ballade stopped next to Stoneman, breathing hard. He reached out and slapped the bracelet on Stoneman’s wrist before the stone-based robot could react.
Rockman kept his distance as Stoneman dropped to the ground, growling in pain.
“That’s it,” Ballade said, “fight it. Don’t let that madman win. You’re stronger than that.”
“Easy … for you … to say,” Stoneman growled out, “you haven’t been active… under Wily’s control … as long as I have.”
“True … ” Ballade said, “but this should work. If not I’ll just have to disable you.”
“Might … be better,” Stoneman managed to say.
Ballade nodded as he formed two of his Ballad Crackers and tossed them in front of Stoneman before running away.
“What!” Rockman exclaimed when he saw what was going to happen, “what if the bracelet is destroyed?”
“And what if he can’t fight it?” Ballade asked, “or what if his programming is stronger than that toy of yours?”
Rockman growled at that, not liking what was going to happen. He was forced to shield his face at the explosion, nothing but rubble left where Stoneman had once stood.
Ballade moved over and reached in through the rubble. “Now to trigger his teleport and send him to Right’s lab instead of Wily’s.”
“No,” Rockman said, “if the bracelet is damaged he could hurt dad.”
“Trust me,” Ballade said with a snicker, “he won’t be pulling himself back together without help. Not with the force that blew him apart. Minor explosions he can pull himself back together and reform. Larger ones disrupt that ability.”
Rockman nodded, not trusting the bracelet to work after that explosion but knowing they were running out of time.
“There,” Ballade said as he moved back right before Stoneman’s body turned to energy and streaked high into the sky.
Rockman moved over to where Ballade was standing. “Do you know where Enker is?”
Ballade nodded. “Of course I do.”
Rockman squeaked when Ballade reached out and took a hold of his hand, teleporting the both of them. He was more surprised to see Enker standing there, remembering him as one of the other Rockman Killers.
“Ballade?” Enker asked, “what is going on.”
“I brought a treat for you,” Ballade said, “not really gift-wrapped but still it’s better than nothing.”
“A treat? Do you mean Rockman?” Enker asked.
“No, no, of course not. He’s our ally now,” Ballade said as he let go of Rockman, taking another bracelet with him before walked over to where Enker stood, a look of shock on his face, “actually, the real gift is this. Here, hold out your arm.”
“What kind of a trick is this?” Enker asked, his eyes narrowed and on Ballade even as he shifted his spear toward Rockman.
“Oh, no trick,” Ballade said as he reached out, slapping the bracelet on Enker’s wrist before holding him close, “just a means of freeing you from Wily’s control.”
Rockman watched as Enker’s body tensed, his grip tightening on Ballade. He closed his eyes at the whimpers of pain that steadily increased. It was obvious the blue and gold armored robot was fighting this, though whether the bracelet could free him or not, he had no idea.
“Fight it,” Ballade said softly, “I know you can. I know you really don’t want to be loyal to him.”
“So hard,” Enker growled out.
“Life always is,” Ballade said, “but I’ve never known you to give up.”
“Not going to,” Enker said around his pain before he slumped against Ballade, “you wouldn’t let me live it down if I did.”
“Stoneman is free of that curse,” Ballade said, “I helped him fight it.”
Enker nodded before standing straight and looking over to Rockman, even if he did keep a hand on Ballade’s shoulder for support.
Ballade glanced over his shoulder. “We’re no longer enemies,” he said as he looked back at Enker.
Enker shifted to look at Ballade. “How can you be sure he’s not going to shoot us in the back or disable us? He’s a Right ‘bot and we’re his killers.”
“Do you want to risk Wily disabling us for failing to kill Rockman again?” Ballade asked, “or do you want a chance at life, for a change. A life we can control, not that maniac of a human?”
Enker fell silent, his gaze distant.
Rockman didn’t dare say a word, nor did he move. He did hope that Enker would join them, would trust them enough to let Doctor Right destroy Wily’s influence over them.
Eventually Enker nodded. “So long as you’re there … I will accept it.”
Ballade smiled before giving Enker a hug. “I knew you’d see it my way.”
Even Enker smiled as he closed his eyes, hugging Ballade back.
Rockman blinked at that. Did that mean that those two were lovers? Like he and Forte were?
Shaking the thought from his mind, Rockman knew they still had two more robots to deal with. One if Tenguman had managed to take down Cloudman.
“Shall we teach that loudmouth Grenademan a lesson?” Ballade asked.
“By all means,” Enker said with a nod, “he is rather … uncouth.”
Ballade chuckled. “That’s what you get for a non RKN series robot. No manners at all.”
“I have no idea where he might be,” Enker said.
“Me either,” Ballade said.
Rockman hesitated before activating his radio. “Centaurman? Can you read me?”
There was silence before a reply came. “I can hear you,” Centaurman said, “are you all right?”
“I’m fine,” Rockman said, “Stoneman is in pieces but back at the labs. I’m here with Ballade and Enker.”
“Enker? I didn’t realize that Wily had finished repairing him,” Centaurman said, “do you require assistance?”
“No,” Rockman said, “I’m fine. They’re on our side now. Do you know where Grenademan is?”
“I haven’t seen him,” Centaurman said.
“I’m sending the last coordinates I had,” Tenguman said, a hint of pain in his voice, “I spotted him just before I engaged Cloudman.”
“Thanks,” Rockman said as he downloaded the coordinates. He shared them with Enker and Ballade.
“Shall we?” Ballade asked.
“By all means,” Enker said with a lopsided grin.
Rockman watched as his two, former Killers teleported out before he followed suit. He yelped when his teleport landed him near an explosion and he curled in on himself to lessen the damage.
“So, you think defecting is going to save you?” Rockman heard a voice say, “Wily will have your heads for this.”
“No thanks,” Ballade said, “I’d rather die free of his control than live as his slave.”
“That goes for me as well,” Enker said.
Rockman was shocked to hear them talk like that and he felt sad that they were willing to die for their beliefs. Though he did know it was possible even a robot could feel that strongly about something. He knew Forte would have been willing to die for his beliefs … especially if it concerned Rockman, just as he had been ready to die to save Forte by going on a suicide mission to Wily’s lab.
“Then let me help you with that,” Grenademan said.
Rockman pinpointed where Grenademan was, watching as he fired several Flash Bombs toward the two former Rockman Killers. He watched as Ballade dashed out of the way, not even wincing at the flames that lapped over his armor when the bombs exploded. Enker, he noted, dashed straight through the inferno, not seeming to mind the pain either.
Charging a shot, Rockman ran in. He knew he couldn’t let anything happen to either Ballade or Enker, no matter what they might think. He leapt so his shot would clear their heads and he released the charge he had been holding. He watched as it sped toward Grenademan, detonating almost right in his face.
“Nice shot,” Ballade said as he lobbed several Ballade Crackers toward Grenademan.
“Keep him pinned down,” Enker said, “I’m going in for the kill.”
“Enker, no,” Ballade said, “that’s too dangerous.”
Rockman held back his second charged shot considering how close Enker was now, Grenademan down on one knee from the force of Ballade’s own bombs.
“Like that’s going to work,” Grenademan said with a laugh as he readied another Flash Bomb.
“It will,” Enker said as he shifted, driving the point of his spear through Grenademan, “I never lose.”
“If I die … so do you,” Grenademan said, voice broken with pain as his Flash Bomb exploded.
“Enker!” Ballade nearly screamed.
Rockman absorbed his charged shot, dashing in, not caring how hot it got or how much the flames stung. He didn’t like the two crumpled forms and he snagged Enker around the waist, leaping clear of the flames as he eased him down.
Enker coughed, fluid leaking from the corner of his mouth. “At least … this time … I made a difference.”
“Enker, no,” Ballade said as he ran over, dropping to his knees.
Enker weakly smiled at Ballade. “Now you know how I felt … when you sacrificed your life to save Rockman. Hurts, doesn’t it?”
“Stupid bastard,” Ballade said, “you knew that would happen, didn’t you?”
Enker chuckled, the sound raspy, before he began to cough again.
Rockman shifted Enker, holding onto him tightly. “Follow my teleport signal,” he said simply before homing in on the labs, teleporting the former Rockman Killer with him. When he arrived, he looked around. “Dad!”
“Rockman, are you hurt?” Doctor Right asked as he moved over.
“Enker took a hard hit,” Rockman said, “I-I think he’s dying.”
Ballade teleported in next to Rockman, looking around nervously.
“Quickly, get him on a table so I can stabilize him,” Doctor Right said.
Rockman rose, laying Enker down on the nearest table.
“Can … can you save him?” Ballade asked.
Rockman looked over at the other Killer, surprised by the worry he could hear in the other robot’s voice.
“I can try,” Doctor Right said, “it depends on how bad the damage is and how much energy or fluid he loses.”
Rockman watched as Ballade reached out, taking a hold of Enker’s hand tightly.
“You have to save him,” Ballade said, his voice a bare whisper, “I don’t want to see him die.”
Rockman reached out as well, resting a hand gently on Ballade’s arm. “He won’t die.”
“How do you know?” Ballade asked as he shifted his gaze to Rockman
“As long as he has a reason to go on, he won’t die,” Rockman said, giving the other robot a sad smile.
Ballade blinked at that before he nodded, looking back at Enker.
“Rockman, will you help me?” Doctor Right asked.
“Of course,” Rockman said, more than ready to help his creator work on Enker.
“I need you to get what I tell you,” Doctor Right said.
Rockman nodded, quickly getting whatever was asked of him. He did pause when he realized Forte was laying on one of the tables in standby, devoid of armor, covered only in a sheet. He reached out to ghost a gentle touch to the dark ‘bot’s cheek, a sad smile on his face before he returned to help his creator save Enker.
It took what seemed like forever but finally Doctor Right nodded. “He will be fine once he rests. His energy and fluid levels will need to build before I can safely bring him out of standby.”
“I must thank you,” Ballade said, “I never realized any of you could have such compassion … especially for ones like myself.”
“There’s a lot you don’t realize,” Rockman said instead, “but, in time, you’ll learn.”
Doctor Right nodded. “I cannot remove the programming in Enker until he is stronger. But I can remove the programming in you now. That way you can be awake when he wakes.”
Ballade nodded. “I would like that,” he said, a faint smile on his face.
“Follow me,” Doctor Right said as he turned and led Ballade to another table.
Rockman, knowing he wouldn’t be needed, moved over to where Forte was, leaning down to give him a soft kiss, even if he knew his lover couldn’t return the gesture. “We did it,” he said softly, “we beat Wily back. We saved some of your brothers. I know you’ll be happy when you wake.”
His fingers closing around Forte’s own fingers, Rockman just stood there, gazing down at his lover.
When two signals suddenly teleported in, Rockman tensed, his buster flaring to life. When he realized it was only Blues supporting a damaged Tenguman he relaxed.
“Cloudman … has been defeated,” Tenguman said, voice soft and filled with pain.
“We took care of Grenademan,” Rockman said, “Stoneman, Enker and Ballade are on our side now.”
“Enker?” Tenguman asked, “I didn’t realize Wily was repairing him.”
“He … he tried to sacrifice his life to destroy Grenademan,” Rockman said, “Ballade was really worried over him.”
Tenguman nodded. “You can tell me once I have been repaired. I must go into standby soon.”
“Ok,” Rockman said as he watched Blues help the avian robot over to a table.
When another form teleported in, Rockman tensed before smiling at Centaurman.
“I take it you succeeded,” Centaurman asked as he plodded over.
Rockman nodded. “Enker had to be repaired. We almost lost him. Well, Ballade almost lost him.”
“Ah, I see,” Centaurman said, “at least no one died. That is something we must be thankful for.”
Rockman nodded again. “We can rest for a bit. At least until Wily repairs more of the robots.”
“If he has the funds for it, yes, we will have to fight again,” Centaurman said as he rested a gentle hand on Rockman’s shoulder, “but if we must fight, then we will fight. Together.”
Rockman smiled at that, feeling tears start to form. “As friends,” he finished.
Centaurman returned the smile before moving, plodding off to check on the others.
Rockman sighed softly before he returned his gaze to Forte. He had no idea how much more work Doctor Right needed to do and he knew better than to ask. He knew his creator was busy working on the other robots. He would just have to be patient and wait until he could take Forte to his room so the dark ‘bot would be more comfortable.
Leaving long enough to find a chair, Rockman sat, taking a hold of Forte’s hand again as he rested his head against his lover’s shoulder. He closed his eyes, surprised by how quickly his systems went into a sleep cycle, the warm smile never once leaving his face.
