Laurie’s eyes widened as the large Rock-type snake came onto the field. Even Monferno took a second to look over the large Pokemon anxiously, but then shook his head and glared at it, determined to not let his fear show.
“Use Mach Punch!” Laurie commanded, which Monferno quickly did. However, unlike the Geodude, the Onix was much bigger and stronger, so the attack didn’t do as much damage as they had hoped.
“Onix, Stealth Rock!” Roark shouted, making the Onix growl loudly before swiping his tail. Large, sharp rocks suddenly lifted from the ground and floated around Laurie’s end of the field.
Okay, so now I have to make sure that this doesn’t end in me having to send out another Pokemon, Laurie thought. She nodded before telling Monferno, “Give that Mach Punch another go, Monferno!”
He nodded and charged forward, his fist glowing with energy once again.
“Use your Screech attack!” Roark countered. Onix reared back before letting out an ear-piercing shriek, making Monferno stop and cover his ears to block out the noise. Even Laurie and Roark had to cover their ear drums to prevent them from being blasted. Unfortunately, it was powerful enough to push Monferno off of his feet and flat on his back after skidding a few feet away.
“Okay, let’s finish this with your Tackle attack!” Laurie gasped as her Monferno weakly got to his feet, but the Onix was already charging forward and coming up fast.
“Monferno! Look out!” She cried out, making her Pokemon dive down and claw at the ground. In a matter of seconds, he was out of sight and under the ground as Onix came at where he was once standing. The Rock Snake Pokemon paused and looked around, obviously confused at the missing opponent. Suddenly, he shouted as Monferno came out from underneath him, successfully landing his first Dig attack.
“Huh?!” Roark gasped, his eyes locked onto his airborne Pokemon. Laurie, however, grinned as she decided to take this opportunity, “Monferno! Use Mach Punch!”
“Moooonferno!” Monferno cried out, slamming his Mach Punch attack down on Onix’s head. With a pain-filled roar, Onix crashed to the ground, unable to battle any further.
Roark returned Onix to his Pokeball as Monferno landed on his feet, brushing his fist against his chest as if it weren’t that big of a deal. Laurie smiled at the sudden change in personality; a skittish yet curious Chimchar one day, and a cocky and cunning Monferno the next. Though whether it was the evolution that had done it or the constant fucking sessions that boosted his confidence, she had no clue. “Headbutt, Cranidos!” Roark ordered, making the Head Butt Pokemon cry out his name as he charged forward with his head hung.
“Mach Punch, Monferno!”
Unfortunately, the attack had not gone as well as she had hoped. The second Monferno’s fist had collided with Cranidos’s head, he was blown back and overpowered by the Rock-type’s attack.
“Cranidos has a head as hard as iron,” Roark informed her. “You’re gonna need to be more creative than that. Cranidos! Get a running start at and use another Headbutt attack!”
Cranidos did a lap around the field, growling as he brought his head down as he prepared his attack. At the sight of his running feet, a lightbulb went off in Laurie’s head.
“Monferno! Use Ember on the ground!”
The Playful Pokemon sucked in a deep breath before letting out a flurry of dark red flames at the ground. Cranidos cried out in pain as he stepped on the embers, desperately trying to sweep them away with his tail.
“Dig! Then use Mach Punch!”
Monferno clawed his way through the dirt, and being a Fire-type, he felt no pain as he came out from underneath Cranidos. He launched his Mach Punch attack, landing it square on his back and knocking him out as well. The battle was over. And Monferno had won.
