Kid had half-starved himself over the space of a few days. He didn't do much except think about Dawn. The guards had even stopped bringing him food, knowing that it would just go to waste. He lay on his cot with his hands resting on his chest, feeling deeply like a prisoner.
Wakefulness once more drifted over Dawn. She opened her eyes, looking around, her head feeling light. Her vision was blurred slightly. She seemed to be in some kind of a hospital room, many pieces of medical equipment lingering around her bed. Panic rose in her as she pulled the bed's sheets off of her, revealing her naked form. She stared wide-eyed at the stitches and scars newly lining her chest and stomach. Several lacerations had been sewn shut, running down her chest, between her breasts. A large slash had been sewn closed down her right breast, but she was happy to see that it simply went from her shoulder down to the very top of the soft plump flesh of her breast, not even reaching the middle of her breast. Many slices had been closed just beneath her breasts and on her stomach, her stomach still retaining almost all of it's physical and visual beauty, just now it had many marks of combat to it. Her skin had been completely cleaned of blood, but the scar tissue was still very red. Dawn sat up, looking around for something to clothe her body in. She suddenly gritted her teeth, finding movement to be extremely painful. It was as if a fire had gone along her nerve endings. Tears filled her eyes, Dawn fighting to hold back a scream of pain, her body stiffening in silent torment.
She quickly got out of her bed and stood up straight, her body's pain fading slowly as it straightened out. She looked around at all of the equipment of the room, all pre-war and looking extremely expensive. "Someone paid good money to save me." She thought. "From the looks of all this stuff, I must have been in critical condition or something..." She spotted a door nearby, which was closed. Dawn wondered if it was locked or not. Slowly and silently sneaking over, she gently gripped the doorknob and twisted it to the left side, only a few centimeters. It turned a little. Dawn grinned in joy. As slowly and quietly as she could, she turned the doorknob, pushing the door inwards. The door opened a few inches, Dawn able to peer through the crack of space between the door and it's frame. She saw a long simple hallway filled with many more doors like her's, but other than that, the hallway seemed totally devoid of any other kind of object or general furnishing. Not a soul was in sight, the hallways lacking any form of life. She fully pushed the door open, smiling to herself at her good fortune. "He left no guards to watch me...Fucking idiot!" She thought.
Ace and Penelope walked into the city of Illust, staying pretty silent as they walked along. The sun had set a few hours ago, the moon now guarding the darkened city, seeming like a vanguard to the countless stars around it. The streets were mostly empty, but then again, Ace was in a rather quiet part of Illust. The nightlife resided a few blocks away. The city was mostly built out of building ruins, but many houses were made from scrape material. Penelope began whining for food once more. Ace was starving for food, as well. "Don't worry girl, we'll be eating soon." Her words seemed to calm Penelope down. Ace went around a corner in the street, spotting a building nearby with a large wooden sign saying "Dirk's Café" on it. Ace grinned as she made her way over to it, her stomach rumbling powerfully as she moved. The door at the front had a "Closed" sign on it, but Ace ignored it, raising her foot and kicking in the door, not caring about any noise that she might make in the process.
Ace was indeed female, Penelope being Ace's canine companion. Ace was around normal height for a girl her age. She was only sixteen, but her seventeenth birthday was only a few weeks away. She had short blonde hair, going down around her neck and shoulders but going no further than that. Streaks of blood-red dye went through her bangs, Ace having found the bottle of dye while on a raid, not too long ago. She had no idea where the family of peasant farmers had found it, but she figured they wouldn't have much use for it, not after Jimmie had gotten through with them for resisting. Her eyes were light blue with a touch of green in them, mostly around her pupils. She wore a tight blue long-sleeved shirt beneath a pitch-black leather jacket, the shirt having a few old, dried bloodstains near the neck. Ace didn't know where the blood had come from, she found the shirt fluttering about in the wastes one day and simply decided to wear it. She wore baggy camo pants, the camo colours being of gray and dark green hues. She wore a simple pair of shoes on her feet, dark brown in colour along with a mixture of gray, giving her shoes a colour very close to old wet cement. A light dusting of wasteland air was over her, dirtying her clothes and skin a bit.
Penelope was a large mutated breed of wasteland dog, mostly of wolfen descent. In ancient times before the bombs fell, if Penelope were the size she were now, she would have been considered freakishly large, but the effects of radiation on animals in the modern wasteland are rather well-known, making people think of Penelope only as a fairly-sized dog. People were never really surprised when they saw her. Her fur was dark gray in colour. Other than her size, caused by her mutated genes, she was a normal-looking dog. "Dirk!!" Ace shouted. "Get out here!" She stepped into the dark building, Penelope following her inside. The inside of the building was mostly dark, but a few small lights were still lit by the bar on the far side of the room. By the bar was a simple staircase leading upwards. Several tables with chairs set at them were dotted around the room. The room felt much like a tavern or pub of sorts. A weaselly-looking man ducked beneath the counter of the bar. "Dirk!" Ace said angrily, rushing over to the bar. The weasel-looking boy slowly popped up his head, quietly saying "Y-Yes?..." Ace grinned. "You moron, are you still afraid of me?" Dirk rapidly nodded his head, almost banging his forehead on the edge of the bar. Ace laughed for the first time since Jimmie and Blackjack had died. Dirk, who was a rather shy person at heart, began to calm down a little at her laughter. He stood up a bit more, standing about as high as she did, being around the same age and height. Ace simply looked at his face for a few moments with a smile. Dirk blushed faintly. "I need some things." She said, her smile fading, her face darkening. Dirk looked at her curiously. She could sense his curiosity, quietly muttering "I have someone I have to kill..." Dirk nodded, walking a bit to the side, reaching under the counter top.
Dawn opened the door fully and walked outside, the hallway air feeling deeply cold along her naked skin, causing her to tremble slightly for a moment. A throb of pain went through her stomach and chest as she turned her body to the side, looking down the hallway in the other direction. There wasn't anybody there, either. She smiled, but only for a moment. "Where the fuck am I?" She thought. "I don't think anybody here could be a friend...So killing is no problem." The walls, floor, and even the ceiling all seemed to be made of concrete of some kind. Nothing seemed destroyed or faded with time. The hallway to her right led to a dead-end. The hallway to her left eventually went around a corner to the right. The walls were bare of any kind of decorations. Dawn grimaced, a little more pain throbbing inside her. She made her way over to the door across from her, twisting the knob of it. The door was locked. Dawn figured that the rest of the doors would be locked, as well. But why would all of the doors be locked except for her's? It made no sense. Dawn looked down at herself, past her rather large breasts to her stomach, glancing along the scars and stitches running along her body. "Well..." She thought. "I'm just about ready to leave this place." She began to make her way down the hallway, heading for the turn in the passageway up ahead.
There was a light knocking at Kid's door. He sat up on his bed, looking over to the door as someone turned the knob from the other side. The door slowly opened, the person from the other side pulling the door open. The man Kid had seen with the dark coat and strange helmet slowly walked in, placing a chair on the ground by Kid's cot. He sat down on it, no sound coming from him at all. Kid stared at his strange helmet, trying to see his face. His face was completely invisible, the dark plate of the glass making the front side of the helmet just too dark to see through. Kid heard the man take in a deep breath. When he spoke, his voice sounded unnaturally deep and warped. "So...How do you know Dawn?" Kid didn't say anything. The being, sitting perfectly still, repeated it's question a few moments later. Kid still said nothing, even shaking his head. "Are you saying you don't know her?" He asked. Kid slowly shook his head once more. The man seemed to sigh slightly. He stood up and grabbed his chair, walking outside with it, closing the door behind him. Kid lay back on his bed, closing his eyes.
Dawn went around the corner of the hallway, gasping softly and jumping back as she realized that there was someone down the hall. Standing at the edge of the corner, she peeked around and spotted who it was. It was someone in metal combat armour, obviously a guard of sorts, being a man Dawn had never seen before. The guard was armed with an mp5 submachine gun, standing in front of a pair of elevator doors. Dawn knew that there was no way in hell she could move down the immense hallway unseen, even if she tried sneaking to the best of her abilities. An idea came across her. She sighed after thinking over her plan, finding it to be her best, indeed her only idea. She stepped around the corner and whistled loudly. The guard instantly looked up at her and raised his gun. Dawn spread her legs a little, placing her hands behind her head to show off her large chest. The guard raised an eyebrow gently. Dawn turned to the side slightly and bent over a little, ignoring the flaring pain in her stomach, trying to accentuate the look of her already luscious ass. She placed her left hand on her left knee, raising her right hand to her face and gently biting down on her index finger to strike an erotic pose.
The guard smiled a little, seemingly ignoring Dawn's surgical scars and still-healing wounds. "Got ya." She thought triumphantly. Standing up straight once more, she raised her hand from her knee and moved her index finger back and forth with a smile, beckoning the guard to cross the hallway towards her. The guard, now grinning with a bit of lust, began to walk across the hall. Dawn slowly back-stepped around the corner. The guard walked over, foolishly walking around the corner without raising his gun. Dawn smashed her fist into the man's throat, pulling his gun away from him. She jammed the barrel of the gun into the man's stomach, into a soft spot between armour plating, pushing the barrel into him as hard as she could so his own body would muzzle and suppress her shots. She held the trigger for a single second, bursting four bullets into the guard's stomach, tearing through the soft spot of his combat armour. Looking left and right as the man's body fell to the ground, she realized that no other guards must have been stationed nearby, as for a few moments Dawn waited, but nobody else came. Looking down at the fresh corpse, she smiled weakly, thinking "A disguise and a gun...Perfect."
Dirk pulled up onto the counter a sawed-off shotgun along with a small box of shells for it. He brought up three stimpacks, and finally, he brought up a large combat knife. He smiled shyly at Ace. Ace picked up one of the stimpacks and examined it. It looked just like a large needle, a strange gauge of sorts at the end with some thin tubes leading into the needle. It wasn't a clunky object, a single person capable of carrying as many as they wanted, that person simply had to be careful that the needle itself didn't break. Most stimpacks came with a plastic sheath for the needle to help protect it, but the ones that Dirk had raised up did not. Ace put the stimpack back down on the counter and raised up the sawed-shotgun. She lowered the barrels to pop them down and open their interiors. She reached over to the box of shells, pulling out two and slipping a shell into each barrel, raising the barrels and closing them, completing the loading process. Dirk watched her with his shy smile. Ace looked at the combat knife as she asked "How much?" She was silent for a moment before raising her eyebrows very slightly. "...For all of it?" She said a moment later. Dirk pulled out a small, old notepad, along with a pencil. The room was filled with quiet scratching sounds as Dirk wrote down mathematic equations and an approximate price a few moments later. He showed the notepad to Ace. Ace read what he wrote, her jaw dropping in shock.
He wanted seven hundred caps. First off, she barely had one hundred caps on her. Secondly, seven hundred caps was an unbelievable amount of money. Thirdly, she was sure that what she wanted to buy was hardly worth two hundred caps. She narrowed her eyes at Dirk. "Are you serious?!" She said. A bit of bravery flashed in Dirk's eyes as he nodded. Ace sighed, placing her hands on her hips as she thought of a way to pay Dirk. She remembered something that Jimmie had told her one night after he had drank one too many Gamma Gulp Beers. "In the wasteland, a powerful thing almost anyone can use to sell is their own body...Sex can get you to places and get you stuff, hic!...Girls like you, Ace, have it easier than guys, though..." Ace's face showed that she was feverishly trying to think of some other way. Could she steal it? No, impossible, there was no way she could take the stuff without Dirk knowing.
She didn't want to kill Dirk, she had known him for a while now, and besides, if she killed him she might not ever be able to return to Illust. She didn't have the time to try and earn the caps the honest way or otherwise, hell, the old man might be miles away from his shitty little house already. She needed to go back as soon as she possibly could. She sighed through her nostrils slowly. She stepped closer to the counter, placing her hands upon it. She lowered her eyelids a bit, closing her eyes just a touch as she leaned over on the counter slightly. "How about something else?" She asked. Dirk blushed slightly. Ace knew that Dirk had always liked her, ever since they first met he had fancied her, but she didn't feel the same for him. She had made up her mind that she would not have sex with him, she definitely wasn't going to give up her virginity for a sawed-off and some stimpacks. She decided that the very farthest she would go would maybe, maybe, be oral sex, but perhaps she wouldn't even have to go that far. Ace smiled seductively. "How's about some kisses?" She asked in a whisper. Dirk turned bright red, fire roaring under his cheeks.
He gulped softly and quietly asked "With...With tongue?..." Ace raised her eyebrows, smiling a little more as she murmured "If that's what you want, Dirk..." He nodded gently. Someone suddenly walked over to the doorway. "You open for business?" A raspy voice cracked out. Dirk looked past Ace, surprising her as he shouted out "Fuck off, we're closed!!" The person angrily muttered something about a "dirt-nap" before shuffling off. Ace honestly smiled. She had never known Dirk to be the kind to shout. She had known him for at least a few years now, too. "I guess he's a bit different with me than he is in his store..." He smiled shyly at Ace, suddenly growing quiet once more. Ace looked him in the eyes, asking "So, can I have this stuff for some kisses? With tongue, of course?" Dirk murmured out "S-Sure!..." Ace smiled. She leaned over the counter a little more, bringing her face closer to his. She reached her right hand up to his chest, resting her hand against him. She brought her face even closer to his, Dirk almost paralyzed in place, a sort of fear shooting through him. Ace closed her eyes, finally bringing herself close enough to him for a kiss, pressing her lips to his. Dirk shyly kissed her back. Ace smiled to herself slightly as she raised her hands to his neck, keeping his head gently in place as she pushed her tongue forward through her lips, going between his, earning a quietly muffled gasp of pleasant shock from him.
The man in the dark clothes and pitch-black helmet approached a few guards just outside Kid's door, down the hall a little ways from Kid's actual room. "Make sure he doesn't leave. And make doubly-sure that his damn food is brought to him, he'll eat when he gets hungry enough, we don't want him starving to death on us." The guards nodded, heading back over to Kid's door to watch over it. The man quickly walked off, heading down a bare hallway seemingly made entirely of concrete. He clenched his left fist, a tight leather glove he wore crinkling slightly as his muscles tensed. "Now...To see that bitchy slut..." He thought, hatred burning up in him as he thought of Dawn, memories of the past scorching up in his conscience. He raised his right hand to the front of his helmet, touching the black glass covering. A moment later, he lowered his hand, grim determination rising in his heart, a desire for retribution swelling within him.
