Kaelan had lost count of the steps that had passed under his feet as he climbed the stairs one at a time knowing that while both Relha and himself had had to walk up and down plenty of stairs in their time several thousand was no small task. Swallowing hard as he grew closer the feeling of dread no longer held power over him and simply loomed over him as if it was a dark cloud. Nearly everything within him was drained to nothing, hidden from any light for so long by this cloud of dread that all had simply withered.
Relha had walked beside Kaelan, something she had never assumed that she would do, after all Altmer were a proud race who were at least in her experiance xenophobic and well, Kaelan wasn't? It was odd and she wasn't sure what to think of his company while they walked along. "You'll be fine. These are some of the smartest people around, you've got both the college and the Grey Beards offering help to you." She had tried to cheer him up and while he had made an attempt to look like she had, inside they both knew it had been an empty attempt.
" Vuth! "
Rumbling power shook the very mountain and both Kaelan and Relha had stopped in their tracks having been startled out of any emotional tailspin they had been in.
" Ahvakaar! Ahvakaar fos dreh hi dreh het? Druv lost hi bo? "
Neither of them understood but for some reason the words made Kaelan sick, feeling his insides rolling and even the normal doom that loomed over him had turend to fear. Everything told him to run, that this would not end well, but then there was a massive dragon landing before them angry and seemingly ready to rip them apart. Paarthurnax had taken a few steps closer to them, studying the both of them. "You are the two we are expecting." It was more of a realization than a statment before he had lifted his head and tilted it slightly back. "I see. This is unfortunate." Shaking off and looking back down at them in a more relaxed pose he had spoke first to Relha. "You, go to the Grey Beards-" Looking to Kaelan he paused and in a bit more forceful of a tone had said: "- and you come with me."
Looking to Relha and then to this beast, to the dragon Paarthurnax, and had nodded after a moment of prolonged terror. Saying nothing, far too horrified, he had made his way around the compound and up to where the dragon lived, to the top of the mountain where the two were alone.
"Do you know why -"
"Because you are not meant to be." The dragon had cut him off and looked him over again in what Kaelan might have guessed was wonder, though it was hard to tell with something that had the facial expressions of a scaly horse. "Zu'u fend dreh lein hindah ahrk naak hi nu." There was contimplation this time before the dragon had sat upright and gave his head another shake.
"I had heard rumors, but I had not expected it possible. You are the product of an ancient plot, madness and loathing. You are not Mer, you are monster."
Kaelan had felt his heart drop, eyes wide and for a moment the weight that he carreid on his shoulders was forgotten. Horror. Absolute horror as he shook his head.
"You're blind dragon, look at me, I am an Altmer!" Nearly yelling at the dragon it seemed unmoved.
"What reason have I, to lie to you?" It asked making Kaelan's gut turn once more. "You are the moth breaking free of a cacoon."
Again his stomach lurched and made him feel this time like he could throw up.
"You are Hef Vekiir, half breed."
While some might have seen it as a gift instead to Kaelan it had felt as if he had eaten rocks, as if someone had filled his belly with stones and was about to push him over the side of a ship. "I'm what?" He had asked, though he had heard the dragon he had asked out of shock not wanting to think it true.
"Sit down child, and let me tell you the story of how you became to be, and what is happening to you now. It's a very long story going back a very, very long time."
[ There's about to be a lot of shit that's likely lore breaking. This is fanfiction, I do that a lot, my bad, but please, if you don't mind it and enjoy the story thusfar, pleas by all means read on! ]
