Another year would pass before the two of them would cross paths in person for the fourth time.
Olsar's parents were advancing in age and had stepped out of the way for their charismatic son, knowing that their few remaining years should be spent making certain their last child fully understood how to rule. It delighted them that he did, and the three of them took a meal together at least once a week. Olsar made a point of seeking their advice on matters of state, letting them think that they had some say in how he ran things.
And, in truth, he was good at ruling. All his vices were kept hidden and because the facade of his philanthropy was so developed and the tragedy of his family so well known, his people loved him. He made them wealthy because it was easier to hide his own illicit wealth among other wealthy people. He re-enforced his military with the fallen Tavlek people, giving then purpose and reducing overt crime, and it made sense in the public eye given his well-known association with Bekhesh. He won over not just that savage species, but more polite ones besides.
By keeping contact with Weavil he was able to glean information on Zebesian movements on those forces that Weavil did not like. Likewise, Olsar was able to feed Weavil information on political rivals, and both sides prospered immensely by sharing what they knew and using the other to eliminate their enemies. The Tavlek people became respected where they had once been feared, finding new purpose as they served as the front line defense of the Kanvian Empire, all the while helping Weavil grow stronger.
It was only because of this shared information that Olsar knew the attack was coming.
Fortune had brought Olsar to a moon orbiting Interia, the capital of the Messinia System. His lone remaining sister had been brought there as per his request: she had been taken to Ariime, a prison world, and with his parents advancing in age he had declared his intent to bring his sister home.
"Are you sure?" some people asked. "She tried to kill you, killed all your siblings."
"She's family," he answered, "and she should be there when our parents pass on."
In truth, he had become a friend and sometime lover of Salis, the warden of Arrime. Though she was nowhere near so good as the woman he had slept with a year prior, she was good enough to keep him focused.
He often dreamed of the woman he'd slept with at the gala: her tight abdomen and firm breasts, the twitch of her lips and the tightness of her cunt. He'd investigated the pink sigil on her dress and found nothing, the teasing of a joke name the only thing with which he could investigate her.
Olsar had to shake his head, friends, to keep himself from thinking of her.
He thought of his poor sister instead. Salis promised that she was now a broken woman, shattered in mind and spirit but whole of body. Ariime was home to some of the worst criminals in the galaxy, people sent to that world to rot and be forgotten, and Bekhesh had known her from the days when he had been muscle and she had been a slaver.
Little for her had changed, though she was perhaps more subtle now.
Olsar, Bekhesh, and their prize had warning enough to hide when the attack came, led by Kraid and meant to kill every living thing on that moon. Olsar's sister barely remembered her old name and had not the will to do anything other than what she was commanded, a thing which would suit Olsar just fine if they were to survive.
Kraid was massive, thorough, the moon quaking as his forces began to tear it apart. Olsar looked at Bekhesh but the Tavlek could offer nothing save a quick death – he was a mighty warrior, yes, but not strong enough to deal with Kraid or the army that was, even now, grinding the Federation forces into dust. He drew his Zhaanic blade as Bekhesh activated the gauntlet on his hand, both ready to fight until dead...
... and then she came: golden and crimson, a force of nature that could not be stopped or reasoned with.
Samus Aran.
The details of the slaughter are not relevant, not for this. Suffice to say, friends, she won. For our purposes the moment of interest lies in what came after, when Bekhesh spat and took Olsar's broken sister aboard their ship and Olsar whistled as he went to speak with the moon's overseer, to offer his condolences and to offer aid.
Even with the blue jumpsuit that she was wearing Olsar recognized the ass of the woman he had spent the past year lusting after. She was standing there, real as anything, hair done up in a ponytail, and though she turned to look at him and he remembered her it was clear she did not remember him. He did his best to hide his erection, her smile as she turned away almost mocking.
She had come from Samus Aran's gunship, and the information he managed to glean on her stated she was his mechanic, the one that kept the Hunter's weapons and armor in repair, that tended to his ship and kept it clean and working.
But he remembered the name she had given him, the smirk on her face, the bit of truth and something dawned in him, a stray thought that made far too much sense:
The woman he had lusted after was the Hunter that had embarrassed him - souring his dealings, forcing him to fake his own kidnapping, lying to his face about her identity by telling him the truth, making him look the fool.
The Hunter would pay for all of this, he decided, and then she would be his.
Samus Aran would be his.
