“7!!!”
“HA!!!”
“8!!!”
“HA!!!!”
“9!!!!”
“HA!!!!!”
“AND 10!!!!!”
“HIYAAAAH!!!”
“AND CEASE!” Kaede gave a hand signal, and all of the young girls in front of her straightened their backs and turned to face her. “Excellent work everyone! I am very glad to see everyone is still in shape after my absence!”
“I’VE BEEN DOING YOUR PRACTICE EXERCISES EVERYDAY SINCE YOUR ABSENCE SENSEI!!!” One of the girls cried out, bowing after saying so to show maximum respect, her short, dark green hair flicking into her face as she did so.
“Very good, Gurin. Your dedication to your exercises will serve you well in your future.” She redirected her attention to the rest of the class. “You would all do well to follow her example.”
“It’s just karate.” Another girl muttered under her breath. While nobody else heard it, Kaede’s acutely trained senses picked it up immediately.
“It may JUST be karate, Hina, and it may not be a primary fighting style for the Kunoichi as a whole, but it is still an excellent exercise, and will keep you in shape for your more rigorous training later down the road.” All the other girls in the class chuckled a bit at Hina’s expense, causing the young girl to turn red, both from embarrassment and frustration.
“Well it’s not like I want to be here anyways!!!” Hina retorted, stomping her foot. “I’m only here cause my parents make me! Even when you were gone they made me tend to their stupid field! IT’S NOT FAIR!!!”
“Well, I can always ban you from future classes so you don’t have to come, Hina.” Kaede coldly replied. “Would you prefer that?”
It was at this point Gurin leaned to her friend and whispered “Cut your losses now, Hina.”
“Shut the fuck up.” Hina responded.
“I heard that.” Kaede interrupted. Hina has had enough of this shit now.
“Okay we’ll hear this! Why aren’t YOU banned from all future classes!? You’re a half-oni, and oni’s are the MORTAL ENEMY of our village!!! The only reason you're still here is cause you give Kikyou a a good fucking blowie!!! Why the hell-“
“DON’T TALK TO SENSEI LIKE THAT!“ Gurin attempted to slap Hina, only for her to duck, dodging the blow, and elbow Gurin in the side, causing her to topple over.
“WHY ARE WE LETTING A DEMON TEACH US!?!?” Hina screamed out, emotionally losing control and yelling straight at Kaede.“THIS IS LIKE SHEEP LEARNING TO GRAZE FROM A WOLF!!! THIS ENTIRE VILLAGE IS FUCKING CRAZY FOR EVEN LETTING YOU IN HERE AND ENDANGERING EVERYONE!!!!”
… Everyone could see Kaede pulse a bit with black energy at Hina’s words, which very clearly concerned a few of the students in the room. In fact, a few even made an immediate move to leave, afraid there was validity to what Hina said, and that a massacre was about to begin.
“STOP.” Kaede yelled, and the fleeing children ceased their movement. “BACK IN LINE.” And, as demanded, they did so.
Once everyone was back in line, Kaede began walking over to the corner of the room where she kept her bag. “Nobody leaves until dismissed, okay?” Kaede said in a much calmer voice, seemingly getting a bit more emotionally under control… Or, perhaps she only yelled since the kids were trying to leave before being dismissed?... Or perhaps she was faking being calm now. This uncertainty kept the kids a little on edge.
“Hina.” Kaede called out, turning to her. “Why is it that we do not allow men to join the ranks of the Kunoichi?”
“What?” Hina asked, a bit confused.
“Why do we not let men become Kunoichi?”
“... Uh, b-because Kunoichi is a strictly female term referring to-”
“No. The main reason. Men have their own term for being a ‘kunoichi’, but why do we not let them fight?” Hina took a few seconds to think up a reply, but after digging a bit, it did eventually hit her.
“B-because they get really violent when they become a half-oni! And, uh... They become all feral, but smart enough to remember details like where the village is, and... -”
“That’s exactly it. While it is also tradition that keeps men from joining our ranks, that tradition was started due to men gaining a substantial amount of strength upon becoming a half-oni. Now, it is very rare for us to directly fight an oni threat, much like the man who has turned me into one, but as you can see, the odds of encountering one is still very real, and if even one male recruit were to transform and not be dealt with one way or another, they could threaten the entire secrecy of our village, and if not, they would more than certainly begin spreading their demonic blood to other beings in other areas.”
Kaede then took a small, velvet pouch from her bag. Before opening it, she talked a bit more.
“Women, on the other hand, also gain some additional physical strength in some regards, but are nowhere as infectious as men, and are nowhere as violent. Purebred onis are obsessed with the act of sexual intercourse. They breed like rabbits, and are obsessed with nothing but the act. Men become so violent because they are, more times than not, the initiators of sexual intercourse, while women are the recipients. Human women who become onis, thus, gain an intense, crippling desire to be bred, rather than to breed. They become less mobile, more susceptible to sexual acts, and are generally handicapped by being a half-oni, rather then greatly enhanced by like men are. As you can imagine, this makes infected kunoichi much less of a potential hazard, and are much easier to deal with.”
Kaede then opened up her small bag, and took out a little white pill.
“Now, normally, a kunoichi who becomes a half-oni will never be able to fight, or, really, be able to interact in public ever again. To become a half-oni was as good as a death sentence, and typically, women who have fallen under such a fate were mercy killed unless there was some form of exception in play. However, we live in very different times, and because of Kunoichi Yasuzu’s discovery on the infamous mansion mission-”
There was a very notable sparkle of interest in the kids the moment Yasuzu’s name came up, since, even though the mission had ended a long time ago, at least two months in the past now, people, especially children, still saw Botan and Yasuzu as sorts of celebrities due to their remarkable victory over the forces of evil. Kaede smirked at this reaction, relishing in the influence they had made to the village, and then continued.
“-a way of fighting back the natural instincts of a half-oni has been developed.” She raised the bill up to show everyone. “Does anyone know what this is?”
“HEADACHE MEDICINE!!!” A random girl in the back called out.
“No, it is not.” Kaede corrected in a happy tone. “This is an anti-demonic pill, known as Onicide. This pill was used by the merchant, a self-made half-oni, to reduce his demonic nature so he would not go mad, as most half-oni males do. This causes one’s demonic energy to lower, allowing the body to fight off their demonic infection, and act as normal, effectively canceling out the disease entirely.”
She then popped the pill into her mouth, and swallowed it rather effortlessly without water. She then reached back into the small bag.
“Now, these pills do not cure the disease. They treat it, but once someone becomes a half-oni, as of now, it is sadly for life. After about a day’s time, the medication dissipates, and another dosage is required. You will not go mad if you forget a day, but it is highly recommended to keep a the drug in your system at all times so you are not hindered at all by your demonic blood. Even so, the drug has been known to lose it’s overall effectiveness over time. In fact, even the merchant realized this, and he began to take notes on how to combat this.”
She then took out a small, purple pill from her bag.
“This is what he came up with. It is called ‘Demonic Dream’. Traditionally, it’s in a more loose state, but our researchers have found it rather easy to condense it into an easy to swallow pill form . This is taken once every two months, and what it does is that it causes one’s demonic nature to, basically, go into hibernation. During this time, the onicide has a chance to regain its metaphorical footing against the disease, and in time, the cycle will start over. Some changes have been made to the Merchant’s final recipe for the sake of portability and resource effectiveness, but this is what keeps me, and all the other half-oni victims from that mansion, sane and in control.”
She then put the purple pill back into it’s small bag, and put the bag itself back into her purse.
"Don't you need water to swallow pills?" A random student asked... Kaede skipped this question and turned her attention back to Hina, and spoke to her.
“So, Hina, while I do understand your concern of having one of your elders be one of the very things you have been taught your entire life as your mortal enemy, I assure you that this medicine will keep me stable enough to remain your teacher if you would let me.”
“... Y-yeah… Okay.” She replied.
“Right, well.” Kaede continued, coughing a bit to clear her throat. “I do believe I have kept you all here long enough. We’ll do one more round on Sunday, and then I will see you all next week. Take ease and stay cautious!” And with that, many children began leaving the premises, including Hina, which Kaede took distinct note of.
“-Except you, Hina. I would like one last word with you.” Hina froze in place, and, as expected from children, there were a few chuckles from the other kids knowing that Hina was probably going to get a beating for what she said earlier.
“... Y-yes, ma’am.” She replied, turning around and walking towards Kaede. As she did, Kaede sat down on the floor with her legs crossed, and patted the ground in front of her, clearly wanting Hina to sit down too. Somewhat begrudgingly, she did.
“What?” Hina asked with a little bit of snark in her voice. “I-I’m not giving you an apologize if that’s what you want.”
“Why not?” Kaede immediately asked. Hina rolled her eyes at this.
“C-cause…….” Hina suddenly drew a blank. She felt absolutely no need to apologize for what she said since, well, even if Kaede was a woman, and female half-oni’s were less dangerous than male ones, that still meant Kaede was a danger, and should not be put in front of a classroom of children. Yeah! She’ll run with that, that makes sense.
“Cause you’re still a half-oni! Just because you’re not, like, dangerous, doesn’t mean you’re not… Uh… You’re… You’re still the enemy of the Kunoichi, and I shouldn’t have to apologize to an enemy!” Kaede stared straight at Hina, scanning down every single bit of her lack of self confidence. Spite how blunt and mean her words were, Kaede kept the higher ground, and replied.
“Half-oni are not our enemy, Hina.”
“Of course they are, they said in school onis are our enemy, and that they’d rip you into pieces and-”
“Half-onis are a byproduct of demonic infection, which forms from an oni. Our true enemy, Hina. We teach you to fear half-onis, yes, it is a safe fear to have of, but I want you to know that half-onis are victims. They are, typically, unwilling hosts with demonic energy forced on them to the point they permanently change.”
“J-just because it was a choice doesn’t mean-”
“Normally, yes, half-onis, unwilling or not, used to always be disposed of due to their incurable nature, but since female half-onis are docile and we now have medication for it-”
“I DON’T CARE!!!” Hina suddenly snapped. “I DON’T CARE!!! I Don’t… I….
The Kaede I looked up to wasn’t a fucking oni.”
She’s right, you know.
Kaede felt her heart sink as she looked at the young girl, memories of what she did all those weeks ago coming back to her mind. She was now incredibly on edge, and-
“I-I mean, would Kaede even fail a mission!? We don’t know for sure if, like, you’re some sort of doppelganger half-oni spy!!! Maybe- maybe there was a stickup, or something, and Kikyou wanted to dispose of Kaede, but then Kaede got away and she’s plotting her revenge on the village cause Kikyou is actually an Oni in disguise, and-”
You’re not Kaede.
Hina’s words soon seemed to break down into white noise, unable to be comprehended by the fully grown woman. The truths of the matter seeped deep into her mind, and repeated themselves to her on a non-stop loop. They were so obvious, even a kid could see right through them, and if a kid could figure it out, then Kikyou…
… Worthless… Worthless….
Hina’s absurd ramblings finally stopped when she realized Kaede was no longer patiently listening to her like the patient kunoichi master she was, but was… Sobbing.
“... What… What are you-”
“You’re right, Hina.” Kaede muttered under her choking breath. “You’re absolutely right, I am not the Kaede you once looked up to… I… I am but a half-oni now… I… I keep trying to tell myself I’m not, that this is but just a disease imposed on me, but… I’m nothing now… I’m… I’m less than nothing… I’m not even human anymore...”
She couldn’t talk anymore, she only lowered her head so that Hina could not see her disgrace, and continued to cry.
… By all means, this was further proof that this was not the Kaede Hina had come to admire. Kaede was strong, quiet, and intelligent. She showed no mercy or remorse on the battlefield, and would never, ever cry to anyone, for any reason…
… And, yes, in some respects, Hina was right. This wasn’t the same Kaede as before, but not for the reasons she thought. It wasn’t because she had transformed, or had been replaced by a doppelgänger, but because… because she failed in her mission. Her being a half-oni was only a symbol. A badge of shame, and the torture she went through while captured a l pounding reminder that she was not perfect.
… That she was no Kunoichi Master.
That she was just a pitiful, disgraced little girl, just like all the other slaves and bitches that were fucked right beside her in that manor.
… A disgraced master…
...
“M-miss Kaede.” Hina spoke up, getting a little closer to Kaede. “P-please stop crying, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean what I said, I just… I thought that you…”
But Hina wasn’t bullshitting anyone. She meant what she said at the time, and by all means, in hindsight, perhaps it was absurd to put a half-oni in such charge over the village…
But… Hina felt that wasn’t right now. Not while the person she personally looked up to so much, hell, that most of the village looked up to was crying about how worthless she was.
“Kaede, nobody has lost any respect for y- well, I-I was confused! I’m dumb, duuuuuuh, what do I know?? Ha ha!!! Y-yeah, I mean, Kikyou married you, so you know people love you too- I mean, I insulted that too, but-”
Kaede, however, took no notice to her words. She was too far gone in her own self pity that Hina was unsure if anything she said could waiver her…
Hina began to think deep and hard about Kaede, trying to think of anything she could use to help her feel better. She thought about just about everything she could that was positive about her, including her status as a Kunoichi Master, as a teacher, her beautiful, long black hair, her amazing shadow powers, her glassy yet magnificently stunning eyes… Wait, her status as a teacher!!!
“Kaede!! Remember that move I used on Gurin when she tried to hit me!?” She called out to her, trying to make sure she hears. “I learned that from you!!! Your maneuver saved me from getting hit, and without hurting Gurin too much in the process!!! You saved me!!!”
… Kaede reflected on this… it was true, her basic karate lessons did touch upon dodging and basic weak points of the body. Though, she questioned if such a minor tussle was worth using such a skill, it did prevent any major harm to come to anyone.
“... Yes, I suppose that did.” She confirmed, voice still shaken, “but anyone could teach you something like-“
“Then what about Botan!?” Hina continued. “And Yasuzu! Where would they be without your teachings!? They’re two of the coolest, strongest, toughest Kunoichi badasses in the village!!! They took out a foe not even you could take together!!! They’re heroes now, and everyone talks about them!!! Where would they be if you weren’t their teacher? If some worthless randy were their teacher!?”
“They… they would… I don’t-”
“They would be in the dungeon you were in- hell- the entire town might have been!!! You might not know it or think it, and people might not talk about it as much as they do about Botan, but you’re the reason they got that good in the first place! YOU are the reason they are where they are now!!!!!”
“... I’m… I’m glad my old teachings-”
“AND YOU CAN KEEP TEACHING PEOPLE THESE THINGS!!!” She screamed, now half tearing. “I-I wanna know how to do what they did- I DID something like they did today! It was simple, but there’s so much more you can show me!! Stuff that isn’t just karate- like I know I said this stuff was dumb, and I didn't want to be here, but that's cause I want to know REAL kunoichi stuff!!! Stuff like how to handle a knife, or use ninjutsus, or other things like that!!!! And tons of other girls will learn that, and in teaching them you will save THEIR lives too- SO PLEASE STOP CALLING YOURSELF WORTHLESS BECAUSE YOU’RE SO IMPORTANT AND I L-”
“Is everything okay here?” A voice asked, walking in from the open front door. It was Gurin, who was clutching her side a little bit with one of her hands from Hina’s counter attack. “Sensei, are you crying?”
“Oh no.” Kaede replied in a much calmer voice than before, a 180 from her previous, emotionally destroyed voice “Hina had just told me something… very positively enlightening.”
“Oh! So you two are all cool now?” Gurin looked to Hina, her eyes showing no signs of contempt towards her for hitting her in the side.
“Y-yeah… yeah, I apologized to her and… I think we learned a little bit about each other.” Hina replied. “I’m sorry I hit you, I’m really sorry.”
“I’m sorry I tried to hit you! That was probably really mean of me and you wouldn’t have hit me if I didn’t try to do that!!” She replied in a very peppy voice, which was a nice refresher from the tone the two had been talking in previously.
“How much did you hear?” Kaede asked, now completely calm.
“I dunno, I mostly just heard Hina yelling something about how important you are, I wasn’t really paying attention- OH! Here’s why I came back!!!” She then took a very neatly folded paper out of her child cleavage (as it is a traditional place to hide items for a Kunoichi, especially since their outfits typically lack pockets) and handed it to Kaede.
“What’s this?” Kaede asked, taking the paper from Gurin and nearly unfolding it.
“It’s a thing I forgot to give you after class! I’m sorry, I was expecting a big argument to-“ Hina immediately started to look embarrassed, and Kaede could tell just from peripheral vision, so she bailed her out by saying-
“It’s quite alright, I understand Gurin. Though also understand that while Hina’s words were harsh, she simply said them out of confusion to a new concept. It was nothing to be shamed for…”
Kaede finished opening the paper, and lost her train of thought.
Before her now was a crude, but very lovingly made drawing of her and Kikyou at the altar of their wedding day having their matrimonial kiss. It was flat and not exquisitely detailed, her and Kikyou looking like no more than basic stick figures, but the details that mattered were there. Kikyou in her elegant, perhaps a bit overly exaggerated white dress, her dress collar almost going up to her head and her gown ludicrously long, and Kaede in her black, refined wedding dress that showed off her bare shoulders.
The memories of the day began to rush back into her head. The wonderful outdoor alter, the strong, crisp cool breeze that blew during the event, causing all sorts of leaves and flowers to blow past them.
… in hindsight, it was probably a terrible day to get married. The sky was clouded, and as said, the wind was rather harsh. There may even been a faint hint of rain droplets within the wind too, though it was hard to tell at the time… However… However, she wouldn’t have had it any other way. She loved that sort of stormy weather, and it made Kikyou’s hair flow magnificently in the wind…
… it was by far the happiest day of her life… perhaps of her entire existence.
… Fuck, she was crying again, wasn’t she? She never cried about anything before, but now she seemed to cry about something every week… She folded the picture back up before she could ruin it anymore with her tears.
“... Do you not like it, sensei?” Gurin asked. “I can make you a better one if you want! Nothing is too good for my sens-”
Suddenly, two long, shadowy arms blasted out of Kaede’s shoulders, and wrapped around Gurin and Hina. The two young girls were then grappled into Kaede in a demonic bear hug of shadowy appreciation of her students. She said nothing as she did this, she simply let her arms naturally turn back to normal as she embraced the two, unknowingly half-smothering both with her bosoms.
Her hug was tight, and highly affectionate. None of the girls said anything during this awkward embrace besides Gurin, who lightly whispered “Hina, this is totally awesome.” under her breath, and while Hina said nothing about it at the time, she couldn’t agree more, and both of them would be bragging about the experience for years to come.
After a while, Kaede realized what she was doing, and released the two girls, followed by dismissing both. After collecting her personal belongings, Kaede followed suite, and went home. There, Kikyou was waiting as promised so that Kaede could tell her all about her first karate lesson after her hiatus. However, little talk was made between the two about it as Kaede leapt onto Kikyou the moment she was inside like a cougar in heat, and forcibly fucked her for the next three hours straight, much to Kikyou’s delight.
***
Sunday was, more or less, just another day of classes, though this time Hina was keeping up far better, and was in much higher spirits. However, Kikyou could not wait for Kaede at her home this time, as she had work to attend to. She was the Kunoichi chief, after all. For her to spend even a day off duty was a blessing…
However, Kaede still had a key to Kikyou’s temple, and unlike before, Kaede didn’t need an excuse for the guards every time she wanted to see her.
The day came and went, and soon, Monday, the day of her first mission since her transformation to a half-oni had occurred. It was a nighttime mission, of course, given that her powers were most potent at night, but regardless she still had a bit of a trip to make and was very anxious about it. The mission itself was just a simple rescue mission of a novice Kunoichi who failed in her own espionage mission, but Kaede still felt a cold sweat go down her back as she got closer and closer to her destination.
She thought of being captured herself, not getting her medication, and losing herself again to her other half. What she would do to anyone around her if she did turn. What failure would mean now that she was given a second chance…
… She then looked at her ring, and the thoughts subsided… This was just a basic C rank mission… She’s handled far, far worse before.
She took her ring and clothes off, and hid them next to a large tree so they would not fall off her body when she became ethereal- which, normally wouldn’t be a problem, at least for her kimono, but, ever since that mission failed… The merchant quickly sold her special enchanted kimono Kikyou had sewn and blessed herself off after she was... and-
No… NO. Don’t focus on the loss anymore, it's not important anymore, just focus… Calm down… And focus.
… She let herself bask in the moonlight naked for a moment. She let the power the moon’s rays gave her blissfully swirl around in her body, the cold wind blow past her figure, and thought of the joy she would feel when the mission was done and she could put her ring back on, and go home.
… There was a novice in that building being helplessly raped, and tonight, both her and Kaede would go home.
...
… and they did.
