Harlot and Cain walked through the wasteland, heading for the nearby town of Klamath. Klamath was a small town of gecko trappers, the town being just a day or two's worth of travel to the northwest. They made it to the town without much problem, only coming across a pack of wilds dogs, having killed the hostile animals without any complications. When they entered the town, Harlot said "Alright, this fucker should be hanging around inside the Golden Gecko, apparently he's in there pretty much every day. In and out, nab the dumbass and leave for The Den." Cain nodded. "The usual." He said. The two of them headed through the quiet streets of Klamath. Children walking around and giggling with one another saw the two of them, spotting the tattoo Cain had on his face of a skeletal hand. The children's eyes widened as they backed up a few steps before rushing off. The two could see people watching them from within buildings, staring at them with fear. Harlot smiled softly to herself, leaning a little closer to Cain as she muttered "Christ, I had almost forgotten how full of sheep Klamath is."
Cain smirked slightly. The two of them headed for a nearby building made of old dark wood, a black sign on the front of the building with white letters naming the establishment the "Golden Gecko". Harlot headed for the wooden double doors of the building, calmly pushing them inwards. She walked inside, Cain following her. She looked around at the interior of the bar. It was a sad old thing, filled with tables and chairs made of an old brown wood, most of the furniture within being on the verge of breaking. A bar to the right side of the room, a few doors on the far side, there were about twelve people within, quietly drinking from bottles of beer at different tables. Harlot looked around. Cain stood by her side. "We get a description of what the guy looks like?" He muttered. Harlot quickly said "Nope, but we'll find him, anyway." She loudly said "Is there a William Bonnett in here?" Everyone in the bar slowly looked towards Harlot and Cain, all except for one man, sitting in the corner of the building quietly. Harlot had her Ruger in her hands, but she also had a fairly lengthy piece of rope around her left shoulder.
Cain held his flamethrower tight as he walked towards the man sitting in the corner. "You William?" He asked when he reached the man. The man didn't look at Cain, simply staring down into a cup of what looked like whiskey. "Who wants to know?" The man asked. Harlot narrowed her eyes, raising up her Ruger and pointing it at the man from across the room. She fired two shots in rapid succession, the man grunting as a bullet hit him in the stomach, the other in his right arm. He fell from his chair, dropping his cup of whiskey to the floor, Cain pointing his flamethrower down at the man and warningly saying "Stay down." The people in the bar had been put into a stunned silence, watching as Harlot took the rope from her shoulder, walking across the room and coming up to Cain and the man that was apparently William Bonnett. She kicked the man over on to his chest, hearing him say "You sons of bitches!..."
Harlot raised up her Ruger, bashing the butt of it's stock into the back of the man's head, knocking him out. She pulled the man's arms behind his back, beginning to tie his arms together. Nobody did anything to stop them. When she had tied him to her satisfaction, she pulled him over on to his back, Cain grabbing a nearby man's bottle of beer, pouring the alcohol down into the man's face, rousing him into groggy wakefulness. Harlot pulled the man up to his feet, the man wobbling slightly. Cain was on the man's other side as Harlot began to pull him towards the door of the establishment. The man said "You're taking me to...The Den...Am I right?..." Harlot said "Wait and see." The man let out a pained groan from his wounds. "Ah, fuck, you shot me!..." Cain said "Get a goddamn move on before I shoot you, too. You don't want that, trust me. My gun shoots fire." The man let out another quiet groan of pain, stumbling along with Harlot and Cain, heading out into the street outside the Golden Gecko bar.
Dawn drove along the wasteland, listening to the radio as the evening's minutes crawled by. Everyone was quiet and relaxing, Marv relaxing with his eyes closed, Heather leaning back on him and doing the same, relaxing with her eyes closed. Neither of them were asleep, however. Dominique was looking out through the window beside her, watching the wasteland whiz by. Libitina had her head back on the rest behind her as she silently relaxed, listening to the radio. Kid was writing in his journal. Dawn had her left elbow against the door by her side, near the window, keeping her hand near her face. She only had her right hand on the steering wheel. The music from the radio drifted through the car. "How lucky can one guy be?...I kissed her and she kissed me...Like the fella once said, ain't that a kick in the head?...The room was completely black...I hugged her and she hugged back...Like the sailor said quote, ain't that a hole in the boat?..." Kid stopped writing, quickly scanning over what he had written.
"We're on the move again. Dawn says she got Tandi to agree to send some of her guys to New Reno. We're going to meet up with Ronald, and then...I'm not sure. I don't know what we'll be doing then. Maybe Dawn wants to fight the Scaled Hiss? It'll be nighttime soon...I wonder if Dawn still wants to make love when everyone falls asleep?"
Dawn was thinking about the Wrights and one of the first jobs she ever pulled for them. It was supposed to just be a small thing, no danger involved at all, she wouldn't have even needed a gun. All she had to do was pick up a package at a Wright-controlled shop and take it back to the Wright manor. Since she was hardly even a teenager by then, the Wrights were reluctant to give her anything too dangerous or serious just yet. Dawn understood; she was young and generally inexperienced, but not only that, she had to work her way up the ladder of respect, only then would she get the big jobs that had the huge pay-offs. Thinking more and more on what had transpired, she slipped into her memories, making sure she still paid enough attention to what was in front of the car that she wouldn't risk crashing into anything, living or not.
Dawn was wearing a black sports bra along with a red skirt, wearing on her legs dark fishnet stockings that were in fairly good condition along with dark boots. She wore a sleeve of sorts over her left forearm, the sleeve made of fishnets, the sleeve having many more holes to it than the fishnets on her legs. The fishnet sleeve went from her elbow to her actual hand, but it left her fingers uncovered, acting sort of as a fingerless glove. Over it all, she wore a black leather jacket, the back of the jacket riddled with bullet holes, showing that the last person to wear the garment had met a violent end. Despite her hair being quite long already, she had still attempted to tie it into a ponytail of sorts, red and blue ribbon tied around her hair at the back of her head, her hair hanging down on her back in one long mane. The ribbon she had used looked like it had used to be the kind to wrap up gifts, back before the Great War. The only makeup on her face was a light layer of mascara to her eyelashes, not wearing lipstick or anything else. Her black bangs smoothed behind her ears, she walked along the New Reno street, sleazy hookers and junkies on both sides of the road, the ladies of the evening flirting with anyone that passed by, the junkies either rambling to themselves in a drug-induced stupor or begging for spare caps.
Dawn went around a corner quickly, walking along the sidewalk, heading for the building she saw across the street. She was around fourteen and a half at the time, hardly even being a teenager just yet. A long-dead neon sign on the front of the building proclaimed it to be "Geraldine's Pharmacy". Dawn headed for the wooden door at it's entrance, pushing the door open, heading inside. The inside of the building smelled a bit musky, but Dawn didn't react by making a face. Looking left and right, she saw that the store had several shelves left and right, filling up the interior of the building with neat rows, but the shelves were totally bare. On the far side of the interior was a counter with several people lined up at it, a man behind it dealing with the one at the front of the line, trading items with him. Dawn made her way across the room, walking past the line, someone irritably saying "Hey!" Dawn ignored the man, walking up to the counter, moving quickly and with purpose. The man behind the counter looked at her and raised an eyebrow. Before he or anyone else could speak, Dawn said "I'm here for the package you have for the Wrights." The man had been about to speak, opening his mouth for a moment before he nodded lightly. "Right. It's back here, come on."
He waved for her to come behind the counter, Dawn walking around it, standing by the man as he turned and reached for something on a shelf behind the counter. "Aren't you a little young to be making runs for the Wrights? Or any family, for that matter?" Dawn said "Gotta start the life sometime, right? I'm getting my experience early." The man chuckled lightly. He grabbed a thin package, the package wrapped up in brown paper, tied with brown cord. He turned to Dawn, about to hand it to her, his eyes suddenly glancing towards the door of his building. His eyes widened gently. He dropped the package, grabbing Dawn by the shoulders, surprising her as he yanked her down towards the ground. She fell flat on her ass, the man hissing towards her in a low voice and with a warning tone, saying "Get close to the counter and don't move, don't make a sound!" Dawn knew something was up. She moved over and kept her back to the counter, keeping her legs close to her body, her knees hugged to her chest. She saw the man face forwards, getting close to the counter beside her. A moment later, she heard a shot ring out, sounding like a pistol shot. The people lined up in front of the counter let out panicked cries, a booming voice coming out above them all, a man shouting out "Get the fuck out, now!!"
Rapid footsteps sounded out as the people filling the building seemingly fled. When all things were quiet, slow and calm footsteps approached the counter. Dawn saw the man slowly grab a pistol from beneath the counter, holding it low, cocking back the hammer. "How can I help you folks?" The man behind the counter asked in a respectful tone. A woman said "We want the package you have for the Wrights. Don't play dumb, we're not fucking around." The man behind the counter said "I don't know if you folks realize it, but I don't ally myself with any one crime family. Tends to be bad for one's health. I stay out of that shit. Holding on to a package for a family would invite trouble." The man, very quietly, tapped the barrel of his pistol against the underside of the counter three times. Dawn took the message. She figured the man was trying to tell her that there were three hostile beings in the room. Another man, a second one, said "Last chance. Hand it over and we'll leave, or refuse again, die, and have us just find the package ourselves and take it, anyway." The man behind the counter said "Listen, you can tell your boss...Mason, I believe his name is?...You can tell him that I'm not allying myself with any one family. I'd rather not get into that stuff, it only brings people like you guys down on my ass."
A feminine chuckle sounded out. Dawn suddenly heard rapid gunshots sound out, the man standing beside her instantly collapsing down to his back, blood running out on his shirt from the many gunshot wounds riddling his torso. The man was dead, Dawn could easily see it on his face. The man's pistol rested limply in the man's hand, his arm near Dawn's body. Dawn hadn't flinched once the gunfire had started, she didn't cower from the man's corpse. One of the men standing in front of the counter said "Heh. Dumb fuck." Dawn quietly reached over, pulling the man's pistol away from his hand, holding it in the both of her hands to keep it steady. The woman in front of the counter said "There's a fuck-load of packages back there, how are we gonna know which one is-" Dawn bolted up from behind the counter, her face stone-cold as she held the pistol out in front of her. She acted purely on instinct then, pulling the trigger, simply acting without thought.
She shot the woman in the chest twice before swinging over and doing the same to one of the men, the third being so surprised he barely raised his pistol before Dawn hit him with two bullets, as well. Dawn realized that what she had thought to have been a message from the man had been true; there were only three of them to their group, no more. Dawn quickly walked out from behind the counter, approaching the body of the woman. Not taking any chances, she fired down into the woman's face, rapidly doing the same for the two men, making sure they were all dead. Smoke drifted from the barrel of her pistol, swirling up into the air. Dawn turned around and walked behind the counter once more, grabbing the package resting on the ground. She slipped it into a pocket on her jacket. Holding the pistol in just her right hand, she quickly left the building, walking out into the street with a calm look to her face.
Dawn walked into the office of Orville Wright, followed by three Wright guards. The office of Orville Wright looked exactly as it did in the present time, Keith Wright had done very little to change his father's office once he had taken control of the family. Orville Wright was an elderly man dressed in a sharp black suit, his hair gray, a long dark brown wooden cane supporting the man in his right hand. His face was in a permanent scowl, Orville being the kind of man that seemed like he was always pissed off about something or other. A younger Keith Wright held Dawn's package in his left hand, walking over to his father, handing the package over to Orville. Orville took the package, saying "I understand there was some...Trouble?" Orville asked in a dry, raspy, voice. Dawn nodded. "Two guys and a girl. They shot the guy running the shop. I took his pistol once he was dead and shot them down. The guy running the place mentioned a name..."Mason"." Orville tossed the package over to his desk, saying "Mason...He runs the Salvatores these days, ever since old man Salvatore himself fell into a grave. Were the guys in the pharmacy using lightbringers?"
Dawn knew what a "lightbringer" was. It was New Reno slang for laser weapons, but specifically laser pistols. Dawn shook her head, saying "No, just normal pistols. Berettas, I think." Orville nodded, a moment later saying "You did alright, Dawn." Dawn smiled a little and said "Thank you sir, I appreciate that." Orville nodded for Keith and the other two guards to see Dawn out, turning towards his desk. "You'll get your pay outside." Orville grumbled. Dawn raised a hand, Orville's men no longer stepping towards Dawn to see her out, Dawn saying "Wait, sir. I wanted to ask you something." Orville turned and looked at her, his face still being cold and a little angry. "Yes?" He asked. Dawn said "I just wanted to ask you that, if you're ever setting something up that needs a few guys with guns to keep watch or to guard some people, that you think of me, sir. I could do it, trust me." Orville stared at Dawn for a few moments before slowly beginning to pour himself a glass of bourbon from a tray of bottles lying nearby, on his desk. He calmly said "Well, you took down three Salvatore guys today...Never thought you'd be too good with a gun, to be honest. You're just a girl...You should be out having fun, dancing with boys, just generally being a girl. This is a dirty business, guns only make it more dirty. You handle a gun and you'll be dealing with other guys handling guns, that alone means you'll be in a lot more danger."
Dawn raised her eyebrows gently as she said "I have no problem with messing around with guns or boys, both those things are fun. You first found me dancing at the Shark Club and doing little films and small parts for the Corsicans, remember? I like boys...But come on, sir. I mean no disrespect, but how many wasteland girls do you know of that dance around like everything's all roses and sunshine?" Orville chuckled gently, taking a sip from his glass, cracking a smile for a moment before his scowl came back. "I see your point." He said calmly. He looked towards her, asking "Think you can handle a gun well enough? No shame in admitting you can't, admitting it now might keep you alive." Dawn said "I left my home years ago, if I didn't know how to handle a few guns I would already be dead by now." Orville took another sip from his glass. "...Well, I might be able to think of some uses for you. It's going to be dangerous, though. I'll need to be able to count on you to pull the trigger when it counts." Dawn nodded. "Don't worry, I won't let you down."
Dawn snapped out of her memories, realizing that the sun was starting to set. Marv and Heather had already fallen asleep, Libitina was relaxing to try to sleep, and Dominique looked rather tired, it wouldn't be long before she herself attempted to fall asleep. Dawn smiled, looking over and seeing Kid to still be awake, simply relaxing by her side. She grabbed the steering wheel with her left hand, reaching her right hand over, taking his left hand in her's. He smiled at her, holding her hand back. Dawn was excited about getting intimate with Kid, and she could tell that he shared her feelings. Dawn slowly brought the Highwayman to a stop, Dominique's eyelids falling as soon the car came to a complete stop, Kid noticing her eyes close. He smiled and quickly yet quietly leaned closer to Dawn, Dawn turning the car off, leaning towards Kid as well. They didn't really care if anyone in the backseat saw them kiss, they didn't bother with being overly discreet. The two of them closed their eyes, kissing passionately, squeezing one another's hand...
Dominique opened her eyes slightly, realizing she had almost fallen asleep. She heard what sounded like movement in the front of the car, glancing over, seeing Dawn and Kid to be kissing. She quickly looked away, closing her eyes gently, neither Dawn nor Kid seeming to have noticed her. She closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep, listening as they quietly slipped out of the Highwayman several seconds later. She heard them walk off together, Dominique feeling her emotions begin to rise. First she was sad, she was depressed; that feeling never seemed to go away. She began to feel a little envious of Dawn, being able to slip off with Kid in the night for what Dominique could only assume to be passionate lovemaking. She wished she could be in Kid's arms, she wished he could be in her's, she wished with all her heart that the two of them could be together again. Ever since she and Kid had stopped seeing one another romantically, it had felt like a part of her had been taken away, like a part of her was now missing, an important part. It was like her blood had been drained from her veins and heart, leaving her cold and empty, leaving her a hollow and bitter shell.
Her bottom lip quivered, Dominique biting it hard in sadness and frustration. She was tired of crying, she wanted her tears to end, she was sick of feeling her eyes sting at the memories she had of Kid and herself. Her sadness welled up inside her, flowing through her in blue waves, breaking her down. Tears rolled down her cheeks, Dominique letting out a gentle sob, gritting her teeth afterwards, shutting her eyes tight. Unknown to Dominique, her sob had awoken Libitina, Libitina opening her eyes and looking over. She watched Dominique cry with her eyes closed for a moment or two before whispering out to her. "Dom?...What's wrong?..." Dominique didn't flinch, she didn't act startled. She simply opened her eyes looking over to Libitina, tears still running down her face. Dominique came closer to Libitina, gently resting the side of her face against Libitina's left shoulder, near her neck. Libitina was a little surprised, not expecting Dominique to come closer to her like she was, but she tried not to act awkward, simply reaching her left arm around Dominique and holding her. Dominique continued to cry gently, Libitina listening to her weep, murmuring out "It's alright, Dom..."
Only a minute or two after leaving the Highwayman, Dawn and Kid had reached a spot they both thought would serve nicely. It was a little clearing with the stars shining down from above, Dawn laying down her trenchcoat for the two of them to get on. Several seconds later, they were both undressed, Dawn lying on her back with her legs spread, Kid on his knees between her legs. They were both quite aroused, Kid holding on to Dawn's legs as he thrusted into her, keeping his hands under her knees. Dawn had a hand down to her pussy, rubbing at her clit, the both of them already beginning to breath fast. Their clothes sat by them in a pile, the both of them completely naked, neither of them wearing a thing. Dawn sat up slightly, coming close to Kid, her chest touching his lightly as she brought her face to his. They kissed passionately, pushing their tongues into one another's mouth. The two of them playfully rubbed their tongues along the other's, Kid still moving back and forth, his slick tool pushing in and out of Dawn's clenching orifice. They stopped kissing a minute later, Dawn lying back slightly, looking down at herself and where she was joined with Kid. Feeling the inside of Dawn after so long rapidly brought Kid to his climax.
Dawn felt the same way; Kid rapidly moving back and forth as well as her rubs directly over her clit brought her quickly soaring to her climax. Kid moaned out. They hadn't been having sex for long, but for some reason, his speedy approach to his orgasm felt rather intense, more so than usual. He gasped as Dawn suddenly grabbed him, smiling naughtily as she spun him around, switching positions with him. Kid lying on his back now, Dawn was on her knees over him, her hands to his chest as she raised and lowered her hips rapidly. She quickly moved her left hand back down to her lower lips, rubbing at her clit as she continued to move, feeling Kid gently try and thrust up into her. Kid's orgasm hit him, Kid moaning out, his body tensing slightly. For a few brief moments, he felt bliss wash over his body, reaching through his skin, muscles, and even his bones, filling him up completely before abruptly leaving. Dawn could feel Kid release inside her, Dawn slowing down slightly but still continuing to rub herself. Hardly a few seconds later, her orgasm hit her, Dawn trembling slightly as she let out a long moan. Kid felt her squirt a bit of fluid out on him, there not being much but Kid still being able to feel it, regardless. The two of them panting, Dawn let herself rest down on Kid, bringing her face to his so the two of them could kiss.
They kissed passionately several times before Dawn pulled away, Kid saying "That was incredible..." Dawn smiled, agreeing with him without words, only mumbling out "Mmmm..." Kid yawned gently, Dawn raising an eyebrow slightly, saying "Sleepy, babe?..." Kid nodded slightly as he continued to yawn for a moment. Dawn got up from him, Kid slipping from her pussy as she rose up, Dawn stepping over to their bundle of clothes as she said "Alright then, come on, let's head back to the Highwayman..." Kid took another moment to relax before getting up, beginning to get dressed with Dawn. He pulled his clothes on, Dawn pulling on most of her's, Kid zipping up her vest for her before she lifted up her trenchcoat, slipping it on. They held hands as they began to walk back to the Highwayman, the both of them smiling gently, feeling rather content over their sexual encounter. After a few steps, Kid suddenly thought he had heard something. He slowed down gently, narrowing his eyes in curiosity. The noise sounded like a sort of shuffling. He ignored it, walking with Dawn for another second or two before Dawn suddenly stopped, saying "What the hell was that?..."
She looked over her shoulder for a few seconds before Kid saw her eyes widen slightly. "Come on!" She urged, holding his hand tight, beginning to rush off. Kid quickly moved with her, asking "What's wrong?" The two of them kept racing for the Highwayman, reaching it in about a minute. "Get in!" Dawn said, jumping into the Highwayman. Kid got in the other side, getting in the passenger's side. Neither of them had been quiet, causing the then-sleeping Dominique and Libitina to awaken, Marv and Heather still slumbering. Dawn quickly turned the Highwayman on, it's electrical whine coming out on the air before it's engine let out a roar. Dawn looked around the steering wheel for a moment before reaching for a switch, flicking it. A slight "boom" sound came out as the vehicle's strong headlights suddenly came into life, sending out a powerful shine. "What's going on? What's wrong?" Libitina asked a little worriedly. Kid heard much more movement just outside the car, whatever was outside seeming excited by the light up ahead. Dawn backed the car up for a few moments before driving forwards, turning the car to the light, shining the car's light down in the direction that Dawn and Kid had come from.
What Kid saw looked like a creature that had clawed itself out of a nightmare. The creature he saw was even more frightening than the deathclaw he had seen long before. It was much bigger than a dog when it came to the length of it's body. It had a large pale torso along with six legs, each leg looking much more like an arm than a leg, three on either side of it. Although they acted as legs, the limbs were more like arms, having hands instead of feet. Each arm ended in a hand with five fingers, much like a regular human's arm. Each finger was topped with a long claw, curved slightly for tearing into flesh. It had two quite thick and long appendages coming out from the front of it's torso, curving slightly so the tops of the appendages pointed up into the air. A ghastly head topped either appendage, the one on the creature's left looking like the bald head of a human, the head on the creature's right looking like the large hairless head of some sort of canine, it's mouth full of jagged teeth. At the back of it's torso was a mass of dark pink organs of some sort, reaching out from within the creature and spreading out underneath it's torso in dark pink quivering tendrils.
Kid couldn't help but feel a bit frightened by the creature, seeing it quickly head for the vehicle, coming out of the darkness like some demon from the darkest reaches of his imagination. It let out a sort of grunting call from the human head, the canine head letting out a howl. More of them began to appear in the car's headlights, continually heading for the car and those the creatures saw within. Dawn reached into the backseat, grabbing her Gauss rifle. She pulled on her helmet, opening the door beside her, Kid saying "Wait, Dawn, let's just go, don't go out there!" Dawn said "I'll be fine. Stay inside." She closed the door behind herself. Her helmet's lit blue lenses allowed her to easily see in the dark, seeing there to be seven of the creatures. She raised her rifle, pulling the trigger, hitting the closest beast in it's human head, the face of the head bursting with gore. The creature didn't die, still moving, the canine head letting out a beastly bark. Dawn shot at it as well, hitting the second head, the creature falling over dead then. Dawn pointed her rifle at the next creature, hitting it's two heads as well, killing it. She aimed at a third, killing one it's head before her rifle ran out of ammo.
She raised an eyebrow, rolling her eyes gently before ejecting the magazine from the rifle, slipping it into a pocket on her trenchcoat. She pulled a spare clip from another pocket, loading it into the rifle. She finished off the third creature from afar, finishing off the rest quickly before they could even come close to the Highwayman. Dawn smiled slightly. Kid looked at Dawn, seeing movement in the darkness behind her. "Dawn! Behind you!" Kid called out. Dawn turned around, but not in time to shoot the creature behind her. It was a wanamingo, one of the creatures that they had all seen not long before. Kid saw Dawn's rifle get knocked away from her, falling in front of the Highwayman, being lit up by the vehicle's headlights. He heard Dawn struggle with the wanamingo as the creature got over her, smashing into her with it's tentacle arms, trying to bite her with it's large mouth. "Dawn!" Dominique cried. Kid acted quickly. He reached into the backseat, reaching into Ace's old duffel bag. He grabbed the first thing he felt, it being one of Ace's acid grenades. He got into the driver's seat, pushing the door open as hard as he could, bashing into the wanamingo, stunning it long enough for Dawn to knock it from her body.
Kid got out of the Highwayman, feeling anger rise up inside him. He was afraid, yes, terribly afraid, but he had to help Dawn, he wouldn't freeze up and let her get hurt again, never again. The creature quickly got to it's feet, letting out a snake-like hiss, Kid not even flinching as he got up to it, kicking it right in where he thought it's face was, in the skin right above it's saliva-dripping mouth. Dawn got up, racing over to her Gauss rifle. The wanamingo smacked into Kid's legs with it's tentacle, knocking him to his side. He pulled the pin from his acid grenade, seeing the wanamingo come for him with it's mouth open wide. He jammed his grenade into it's mouth, feeling it's sharp teeth slash along his hand, wrist, and forearm, Kid crying out in pain. The creature was almost trying to swallow Kid's arm, chewing along him slightly as the grenade was pushed deeper and deeper into it's body. Dawn let out a shot, hitting the creature in it's left hind leg, completely blowing the limb from the wanamingo's body. The creature let out a squeal, Kid desperately trying to pull his arm from the wanamingo's throat before the grenade went off. Dawn threw her Gauss rifle to the ground, sprinting towards Kid.
She grabbed him around the waist, pulling with all her might. Kid suddenly felt burning pain against his fingers, screaming out as the wanamingo began to chew on him more in a panic. Dawn yanked Kid away from the wanamingo a split-second later, the two of them collapsing to the ground, to their backs. Kid had tears in his eyes, his whole body shaking. There were deep wounds all along his left arm, all the way up to his elbow. The creature's large teeth had bitten Kid down almost all the way down to his bone, a few bites on his hand, even more up along his wrist and forearm. His index, middle, and ring fingers were all missing a bit of skin, his fingers looking like they had been burned for about half of their lengths. Dawn stared at the creature. It began to shriek constantly, flailing it's tentacle arms around, trying to stand up several times only to fall right back down. Suddenly, it went still, letting out a long and low hiss. Holes began to appear along it's body, gooey holes, the creature seemingly melting from inside-out. Kid's grenade had killed the beast.
Dawn turned her attention to Kid's arm, her eyes widening when she saw how much damage he had sustained. "Someone!! Take out the meds, right now!!" That was when Marv and Heather both woke up, Dominique rushing out of the car with Libitina, the both of them carrying a bag of medical supplies each. Dawn helped the sobbing Kid to his feet, saying "It's gonna be okay baby, let's just get you in front of the light, alright?" When they got in front of the Highwayman's headlights, they all got down close to the ground, Kid sitting down on his backside with the rest either sitting on their knees or crouching. Dawn pulled her helmet off, taking in how bad Kid's arm was. It was in rough shape. The bites in his arm had torn through several muscles, blood squirting out heavily, the skin of his arm pale in the places where it hadn't been covered in crimson. Kid kept crying as Dawn tore open a bag, reaching around inside. Dawn was keeping a cool head, but she couldn't help but feel a bit of panic rise in her. It was Kid that was hurt, after all. She pulled out a few items, the first being a needle of Med-X, the other being a regular stimpack, the third being an Ultra Stimpack.
She attached the Ultra Stimpack's brace to his uninjured arm, watching as the first stimpack of the contraption fired it's medicine into him, the second one shooting it's medicine into the Ultra Stimpack's intravenous bag. Dominique held the bag up for it's medicine to flow properly. Heather, inside the car, asked "Wh-What's going on, Marv? Are they okay?" Marv couldn't see them through the windshield, simply saying "I don't know, Heather...I hope so!..." Libitina used the Med-X on Kid, his crying beginning to die down to sniffling as the terrible pain flooding him began to fade. Dawn quickly used the stimpack she had grabbed on him, injecting it into his injured arm, injecting it in a small patch of relatively unharmed skin. The stimpack along with the effects of the Ultra Stimpack began to heal Kid's wounds, closing them slightly, ending the bleeding. Kid was breathing heavily as his tears fully faded. Dominique and Libitina both had tears in their eyes from seeing Kid hurt. Dawn kept a more or less emotionless face as she watched Kid's wounds continue to slowly close. She said "Alright, let's get him back in the car. We need to get the fuck out of here before more show up."
Dawn helped Kid stand along with Libitina, Dominique continuing to hold up the intravenous bag of the Ultra Stimpack. They got him in the backseat of the car, Dominique getting in beside him, holding up his intravenous bag. Dawn tossed her rifle along with the bags of medical supplies in the backseat, placing her helmet up on the dashboard of the car, as well. Libitina got in the front passenger's side seat, Dawn getting in the driver's seat, quickly driving the car off to the northwest. Kid's pain now faded, he quickly fell asleep. "He'll be okay, right?" Dominique asked. Dawn said "I think so. We used some good meds on him, he should be alright." Everyone fell silent for a few minutes before Heather asked "...What happened?..."
Dawn said "...Centaurs. I hate those things. They came after us after Kid and I went out for a bit. I killed them, but a wanamingo hit me before I could shoot it, and...Kid, he...He came to my rescue, he tried helping me. He helped me get it off of me before he pushed something in it's mouth...I didn't know what it was at first, but it must have been one of the acid grenades in the bag back there. Once the grenade was in it's mouth, I guess the thing didn't want to let go of his damn arm, because it started biting him. I barely got his arm out in time, the grenade had already gone off for a second. Every second that Kid's arm was in there would have been more and more skin and muscle he would have lost, but luckily I got him out almost right away, he only lost a bit of skin on some of his fingers. Don't worry, though...He'll be okay." Heather nodded gently. "I guess we're gonna keep moving through the night, huh?..." Libitina asked softly. Dawn nodded. She said "I won't be able to sleep after that, not for a while, at least...You guys go on and sleep, I'll stop the car eventually and get some shuteye myself."
Minutes passed. The first to fall asleep was Heather, quickly followed by Marv. Libitina fell asleep then and, once the intravenous bag of the Ultra Stimpack had run out of medicine and the device had been removed from Kid's body, Dominique fell asleep, too. Now that she was in a safe environment and felt like she was alone because the others were asleep, Dawn felt comfortable enough to let out her tears. Her eyes stung gently as a few tears fell from her face. She made no noise at all, still looking out ahead of the car. If she had been fast enough to shoot the wanamingo, it wouldn't have knocked her over, so Kid wouldn't have gotten hurt. If she had knocked it off faster, he might not have gotten hurt. She was thankful Kid helped her, but it had gotten him hurt. Just the notion that he had tried helping her in a fight, it did something to her heart, it almost seemed to send quivers through it. She didn't know who or what to blame for what had happened; she could have blamed herself, the wanamingo, Kid, the others in the car for not helping, even the old bastards that launched the nukes at each other and fucked up the world with their Great War.
Dawn only cried for about a minute before she stopped her tears, seeing no point in continuing, feeling her sadness purged from her body already. It didn't matter anymore, Kid would be okay and that's all Dawn wanted, anyway. She continued to drive into the night, disappearing into the distance, the blood of the centaurs and lone wanamingo sinking into the wasteland dirt and sand...
