Part 42 - "What is love?..."

(Just a little author's note to the readers - This chapter contains three different scenes, each detailing Link choosing a specific girl as his one true lover. "I know who I want to see." He said. Nayru nodded, smiling a little more, her eyes having a bit of sadness in them, however. That moment in time would probably be the last time the three of them would see Link in quite a long time. Thoughts of his love filled his mind. Her face, her smile, the way her eyes sparkled happily when they looked into his...He let his mouth hang open for a few moments before he confidently began to speak. He slowly started off by saying "I want to see...." The three goddesses all looked into his face intensely. He smiled. "...Midna. I want to see Midna." Din grinned, Farore smiling happily, Nayru softly smiling. "Of course, Hero. We'll arrange a meeting between the two of you. Did you have a certain meeting place in mind?..." Link nodded slowly and smiled more. "The first place we met, just outside Hyrule Market, by the drawbridge." Nayru nodded slowly.
Farore reached over and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I just know the two of you will be happy...Out of all this, some true love came out of it! It's nearly enough to make me cry!" She smiled happily at him. Din grinned. "A Twili, huh?...Didn't know much about them 'till we searched through the time-strings for you when the Great Fairy whisked you off. Yeah...I think the two of you would make a good match." Nayru nodded softly. "We'll put everything into place, Hero." Link smiled at their words of approval. He felt a little bit surprised as he saw them all move closer to him slowly. Farore pushed her lips to the right side of his forehead, quickly followed by a kiss from Din in the center of his forehead, Nayru kissing the left side, near his temple. They all whispered goodbye, Link's vision growing bright, feeling like his body was fading away...
He appeared in Hyrule Field, near the drawbridge. The sun had set a while before, the land around him dark, the high battlements of the great wall around the Market shadowed. The moon was already low in the sky but still washing it's gentle light over everything it saw. "Midna?..." Link softly said. Nobody replied. He looked around for a few moments before he suddenly became aware of a slow set of footsteps approaching him from behind. He turned around, seeing her there in all her beauty. She looked into his face and smiled, quickening her steps, approaching him with more sparkles in her eyes. Link smiled happily. He approached her in turn. When they reached one another, they instantly embraced, Midna putting her arms around his shoulders, Link slipping his arms around her chest, under her arms. Navi smiled as they hugged one another. "It's good to see you!..." Midna said softly yet happily. Link smiled more. "I missed you..." He said. She smiled a little, releasing him. He looked up slightly into her eyes. "Midna, there's something I really need to tell you...It's something really important..." Midna's smile slowly died. It seemed like she was expecting something painful to come.
Link smiled more. "Midna, you remember Miranda and Medli?..." Midna's expression didn't lighten. She slowly nodded, wordlessly. Link said "Well...Midna...I've decided that I only want you. You're all the love I could ever want. You're...I can't express how I feel, you're wonderful, I just want you!..." Midna's eyes widened a little. She stared into his eyes for a few seconds before Link thought he noticed her lower lip quiver, but just for a moment. She bit down on her bottom lip to stop it's slight movement as a bit of fluid filled her eyes. A moment later she softly said "...Link..." Link reached over and held her hands, looking into her eyes. She came closer to him quickly, releasing his hands and throwing her arms around his neck. Her right cheek against his right temple, he could feel her gentle tears roll down the side of her face. They were totally and fully in love.
They had both calmed down within the space of a few minutes. Still on their knees with one another, they were facing each other, embracing still.
