Part 45 - "Shadowed Wanting"

(Note - This chapter wasn't suggested by anyone, it's simply an idea I had floating around in my head for a while. It's a reimagining of sorts of chapter 27, "Confronting One's Own Shadow". This chapter is most definitely not part of the actual story, it's not meant to replace chapter 27, it's just another version of it.)

"Link...We know where Navi is...We managed to track her down...I think you'll be surprised about what happened to her..." Link stared into the light that had appeared before him and Medli in Hyrule Field. "Where is she?" He asked. "She's in a forest on the outskirts of Hyrule...It would take you days to travel there...Step into the light with Medli...We can send you there ourselves..." Link nodded. Medli took his hand, the two of them stepping into the light. Link got down on a knee by Medli. Medli was still crying, but she wasn't sobbing anymore. She didn't want to leave him, every time she did it hurt her heart. Link reached up to her face, wiping away some of her tears. Medli smiled. She came closer to Link, pressing her lips to his. While they were kissing, their vision grew white. They felt like they were flying. They faded entirely, the light from the heavens disappearing from Hyrule Field. Link's vision went from white to black in a split second. He waited a few moments, seeing if his eyes would adjust. When his eyes had adjusted a minute later and he could see, he saw dark trees all around, going as far as his eyes could gaze.
Their branches and thick leaves almost completely blotted out the sun above. "Go forward, Link...Navi isn't far..." He heard in his head. Link nodded. He started walking forward. After half an hour, Link had not seen any trace of Navi. But still he kept walking. Not a sound felt it's way out in the darkness. No birds, no wind, nothing. The only sound Link could hear was his own movements. Another thirty minutes he spent walking. Finally, Link was beginning to lose hope. "Were the Goddesses wrong?..." He thought. Suddenly, a voice called his name. "Link!" It was a feminine voice, and it didn't sound too far away. Link recognized the voice as Navi's. Link quickly walked forward, over to where he had heard the voice. There was a clearing in the trees up ahead. Link saw that the sun wasn't shining. "It must be nighttime..." He thought. Link stepped into it. The clearing was shaped like a circle. Navi was hovering in the center of the circle, not moving at all. Her small blue wings beat slowly. "No...! Link! Don't come any closer!" She cried. Link stepped closer to her, making his way to her. "I finally found you!" He said. "Why would I not come any closer?" He asked. "It's a trap!" Navi loudly said.
Suddenly, a black sphere of energy surrounded Navi, and she floated higher into the sky. The trees bunched together around the clearing, blocking off all exits. Link wasn't going anywhere. The only way he could escape is if he could jump over the trees, but he knew that was impossible. A dark figure materialized, standing on the ground beneath where Navi was floating. Not a sound came from Navi, the black sphere of energy around her seeming to block out her voice. Navi was floating high up, almost blending in with the dark sky. She floated up until she was higher than the trees around Link, which were quite high, but then she stopped. Link's eyes were staring back at the red eyes of the figure that had emerged. The figure was like a faint shadow, but with every second that went by it was growing darker, growing stronger, it's eyes growing brighter and deeper. Link unsheathed his Master Sword. The being did the same, unsheathing it's own sword. Link stepped closer to it. The figure didn't move. "Why have you taken Navi?" Link asked. The being said nothing. "This shadow...It's starting to look familiar..." Link thought. It's body was growing darker, until it was almost completely pitch-black.
It's eyes were glowing red like two hot coals, and it's face began to fully develop features. Link's eyes widened. It was him. His clothes were black, his skin dark and shadowed with evil power. No white was visible in his eyes, being completely red, glowing slightly. "You!..." Link muttered. Dark Link stared at Link emotionlessly. Link attached his Mirror Shield to his gauntlet clips, raising it up with his sword. Dark Link did the same. Dark Link began to slowly walk over to him. Link stared at him angrily. "What would you want with Navi?" Dark Link stared at Link, not making a noise. "I destroyed you in the Water Temple..." Link muttered. At this, Dark Link shook his head. He smiled slightly, but the smile only lasted a few moments. Link and his dark equivalent were now only meters apart, the distance closing rather quickly. Link sighed, taking a deep breath. Dark Link suddenly stopped. Link looked at him. Dark Link opened his mouth and spoke, but Link couldn't understand what he was saying. It sounded like english, but Dark Link's voice was warped to the point where Link couldn't make out a single word. "What?" Link said. Dark Link raised his black Master Sword, raising his shield. Link assumed his battle stance, identical to Dark Link's. Link took in a deep breath, slowly exhaling.
Just before Link charged for Dark Link, Nayru's voice sounded out in his mind. "Hero, wait!" Link hesitated, staring at his darker self for a second before saying, in his mind, "What?!" Nayru replied to his words a second later. "Hero, you don't need to fight Dark Link...There is another way to get him to relinquish Navi...A more peaceful way." Link keenly stared at Dark Link, seeing his enemy to be doing the same to him, Navi between them and high in the sky, still trapped in her dark sphere of energy. "Link...How many battles have you fought with entity?" Farore asked. Link said "Just one, in the Water Temple. I won, but he doesn't like to stay dead, it seems." "Link, I think I know what Nayru's getting at. A more peaceful way could be used to defeat Dark Link and free Navi." Link irritably thought "Like what?" Nayru slowly said "Well, Hero...Assert your sexual dominance." Link's eyes widened. "You're...Kidding me. No! I'm not messing around with him! First off, he's a guy. I'm not gay. Secondly, he's frigging Dark Link! He's an evil copy of me! That's like...Sleeping with myself? It sounds weird..."
Farore giggled in his mind before saying "Think of it as masturbation, Link!" Link thought "No, no way, he's a guy, not gonna happen. I'd rather fight him, in all truth." Din said "Well...I think the answer is clear. Nayru? Do you want to do this?" Nayru said "No, I think not. Farore should be the one to do this." Farore sighed. "Fine!..." Link had to close his eyes for a moment. Dark Link had suddenly been engulfed in a beam of light, coming down from the heavens. Link opened his eyes a moment later, watching. He couldn't see Dark Link at all, the beam of light was total and pure, no darkness visible in it. Dark Link let out a shout of pain, his voice garbled and warped. Het let out a few more cries before Link noticed that Dark Link's voice began to sound distinctly feminine. Link watched with curiosity as the light slowly began to weaken. Dark Link was still crying out, his voice now completely sounding like a female's. The light continued to die down for several seconds, Dark Link's voice quieting. "There...Assert your dominance, Hero. I assure you, once you do, you might just find Dark Link to be much more complacent." Din chuckled. "Not much of a "Dark Link" anymore...Maybe "Dark Linkette"? Something girly, anyway." The light totally died, revealing to Link what had become of Dark Link.
Dark Link's black hair had lengthened a bit, reaching down to his upper back. His face was much more feminine, his body losing all masculine traits, his shoulders less broad, his hips becoming more curvy. The chest of his tunic was being pushed out a little, it being obvious that Dark Link had developed breasts. Dark Link blinked a few times and looked down at himself. He was a woman now, he wasn't a man like Link anymore. "See, Link? Farore spoke happily in Link's mind. Link took in a deep breath before slowly letting it out. A fight would put Link's life on the line, and although he was sure he would win, he had never been happy going into a fight, knowing he could die at some point before his goal was completed. Before, his goal had been to stop Ganondorf. Now, his goal was to free Navi. If he died of his wounds after freeing her, it would be alright.
Being mortally wounded before that, however, would have caused him no end of suffering before his true end. He sheathed his sword, slinging his shield over his back. He began to slowly approach Dark Link. Link began to refer to the entity in his mind as "Dark Linkette", as it helped him think of the being as a true female. Dark Linkette didn't seem to notice Link. She sheathed her blade and reached the now-free hand down the front of her tunic bottoms, her face going puzzled at what she felt. Her shield still clipped to her right gauntlet, she pulled her left hand out from her tunic bottoms. She just then noticed Link approaching, shooting her left hand up to her shoulder, going for her sword. Link dashed up to her, grabbing her left wrist just as she grabbed her sword. She shot her shield up, planning on hitting Link in the side of his neck with the sharp edge of the shield. Link raised his left arm, bashing it down into the forearm of Dark Linkette's, lowering her arm before she could hit him with her shield. She stared into his eyes for a single moment before pulling her head back, shooting it forwards, butting into his forehead. Link gritted his teeth. The attack had hurt, but it hadn't been enough to stop him from holding on to her.
Link grabbed her sword, wrenching it from her grasp, unsheathing it and throwing it away. Dark Linkette tried kneeing Link between his legs, Link stepping to the side, avoiding the attack narrowly. He twisted Dark Linkette, throwing her to the ground, on her frontside. She quickly turned around, staring up at Link defiantly. Link got down on her, keeping his right knee and leg on her thighs, keeping her legs against the ground. His right leg rested on the ground by her left side, by her ribs. He kept her arms against the ground with his hands, his hands against her elbows. She stared up at him calmly, but anger was clear on her face. Neither of them had said anything to one another since she had changed to her current form. Link stared into her burning red eyes for a moment before bringing his head down a little closer to her. She began to look at him with a little bit of curiosity. He closed his eyes. Before she knew it, he had kissed her. Dark Linkette struggled for a moment before Link gave her another quick kiss. After the second kiss, she slowly began to calm down.

Dark Linkette wasn't looking at him angrily anymore. She looked sort of peaceful. She said a few words, but because of her warped voice, Link couldn't be sure as to what she said exactly. Dark Linkette blinked a few times, her eyes going a little wide as realization obviously dawned on her. She shrugged gently. Link softly said "I'm gonna let go of your right arm...Don't try to hit me." Dark Linkette didn't move or say a thing to let Link know that she had understood him. He slowly moved his left hand from her right elbow, letting her arm rest free. She didn't move it, Link feeling a little surprised. He was sure that she would have tried to hit him as soon as her arm was free. He moved his hand over to her chest, pressing his hand down into her right breast over her tunic top. She didn't react. The trees around the clearing stopped being bunched together, letting air between them once more. The sphere of dark magic around Navi faded, her blue glow shining out in the dark air slightly. Link nodded. The two of them disappeared in a beam of light, the goddesses sending them to his home for the remainder of the night...
