Quietly, I kept tailing the one whom I have been following for quite a while. She had been staying on the outskirts the entire time. It was clear she was avoiding going towards the corn and where the house was located. Yet, I don’t know why. My gut was telling me that she was trying to avoid getting detected period which was a little too late. If she hadn’t crossed paths with myself and the other two, she’d still be perfectly fine. After finding out her little habit of letting the rest of us get killed one by one, I knew she was going to wait till she can get her escape from the area. But I did not let that happen. Oh no. I led the killer to her and I may have felt guilty and quite a bit of fear on top of that beforehand, but not anymore, I want her to be found out as the one who was going to let us all die first.
It had been a while since I had last seen Michael and nor have I heard any screams in the distance which was very much a good sign. It meant my other friends were safe. I pulled my phone from my back pocket and started recording Claudette’s movements. It was better to have the evidence to back up what I say if I need to. But would it hold any weight if no one was hurt? Some is better than none at this point. I raised my phone up and began recording the girl just crouch walking literally everywhere around the property.
Once I felt like I had enough footage of what she had been doing, I stopped recording and put my phone away in my back pocket. This whole going around the property was quite annoying; it’d be nice to just walk on out but for some reason the fog was very thick still on the other side of the fence and there was some unseen force keeping us in. I stuck my hand against the boundary to test it myself and I felt an electric current that was very strong to the point I had to snatch my hand back very quickly as I felt tingles in my hand that shot up to my arm. We were truly stuck and I didn’t know for how long. I really wanted to go back to the safety of my home. To go back to playing League of Legends. I was already missing my life.
At this rate, I was mourning over the life I had before I had stepped foot into the van. I may feel conflicted every now and again, but I knew I missed home. I missed feeling safe. I don’t know if I’ll even get that back. As the reality of my situation had begun to sink in, I felt tears gather in my eyes before falling down my cheeks. We should have stayed at the van. Once we saw the fog roll in, we should have stopped moving. I wiped the tears off my face as I sniffled quietly so I wouldn’t attract attention to myself. That would be the worse thing for me right now.
As my arm hand began to feel normal again, I continued to follow the girl ahead of me. This was becoming very tedious and boring. I was getting too deep into my thoughts where I did not want to be. It was very hard on me emotionally. My steps had slowed down as my mind kept thinking of the things I will miss in a perpetual loop. I hadn’t realized I stopped walking when I heard a crow next to me croak. I jumped from getting startled and finally got out of my head. My eyes looked around only to notice that I had lost track of Claudette.
As I looked around in a panic for the other girl, I saw nothing but the cornfield, a small wooden structure. My heart was beating in my chest hard as I realized I was alone for the first time that night. This wasn’t ideal. I felt extremely alone. I had no one to keep me company, but I can’t let that stop me from surviving. I can’t let fear take over me; I won’t. With my head held high, I continued to walk aimlessly around in the corn at first, trying to find my way towards the old rickety house. Was that even the meet up spot anymore? I tilted my head back to look at the dark blue sky, seeing bright sparkling stars taking in the view for it may be the last time I see them. I took a lot of things in my life for granted and now I have no way to make up for it. But of course, there was a slight chance I may survive this night.
While walking in the corn, I had no idea what direction I was in. Everything started to look the same after a while. I tried using my sense of hearing to detect anyone near me, but sadly there was no one still. I kept on walking as quietly as possible in the corn. Every now and again, I stepped on the stalks that had fallen which had created some noise. Every time I accidentally made a sound, I looked around to make sure, I wasn’t getting hunted. And every time I was in the clear I felt relief. It felt odd to be paranoid and it was a feeling I did not like.
Finally, up ahead was the house that I have been in once to meet up with Kate and Dwight. Would they be in the old thing again? With slow steps, I entered the house, taking slow and quiet steps. As I looked around and even tried listening for the others voices, I did not hear anything but the creaking of the floorboards. I even dared to go up to the second floor and the stairs creaked and moaned a lot worse than the floorboards. Once I was up on the second floor, I looked around. In one room there was a big gaping hole in the floor to the point I was able to see the living room. Being careful, I walked around the hole then made my way into the hallway before going back down to the foyer.
I was completely alone now. My friends, I have no idea where they are at. They could be anywhere on the property and constantly moving to keep themselves safe. With a soft sigh, I sat down on the stairs and thought of what I should do next. My head rested against the wall as I looked out past the door towards the cornfield. It was the first time that I felt like I didn’t know what to do, not exactly. When I heard a creak somewhere in the house, I stood up immediately and crept up the stairs as silently as I was able to which was a difficult feat.
When I heard steps following me, I continued to make my way through the two or three different rooms. Again, my heart was pounding in my chest and I was able to hear it beat in my ears. My blood was pumping with adrenaline. As I looked around for any other exits, I saw a window next me since the only other way was blocked by whomever was climbing up the stairs. Making a split decision, I climbed out of the already broken window. Trying to be as careful as I was able to, I let go of the ledge and made the bushes beneath catch my fall. I felt a stinging pain in my side as well as my hip. As I had tried to stand up, I felt myself wince, but at least I didn’t break anything. That in of itself, was a plus.
After I had backed away from the house, I looked up towards the window to see who was my pursuer out of curiosity. There I saw him; Michael Myers was staring down at me from the window. He was my pursuer. It seems like I have become the new victim in his sights, but that didn’t scare me. I knew it should have, but I was filled with a thrill instead. Once I watched him leave the window, I knew he was going to come for me. I also knew he was one that can move swiftly and quietly from any direction. Looking in every direction, I watched out for the one that some people call as “the shape”.
Finally, I had spotted him through the cornstalk. He stood still and just watches me like I am with him, neither of us had decided to make a move. We were just standing, eyeing each other. I assumed he was trying to figure out how to attack me or maybe he just wanted to see what I would do; I did not know. All I know was that I was not going to scream unless I felt immense pain. Yet, he just remained there at the edge, just staring. Waiting. Then he started to slowly approach me. My eyes followed his movements as he walked up to me. The closer he got to me; I noticed him slowly raising his up to stab into me. Again, I did not feel fear. Once he was in front of me, Michael was about to swing his chopping knife down on me.
“Yep, stab me with that big knife of yours.” He immediately halted his movements and tilted his head at me like he was confused. “Yes, you heard me right daddy Myers. I want you to plunge that big knife into me.” I took a step towards him as he stepped back from me which made me confused. I made another move towards him and again, he took a step back away from me. As I took another step forward, I could have sworn I saw a bit of fear in his eyes before he turned away from me. My jaw dropped as he walked away from me. In a way, I felt offended! Why was he refusing to hook me!? I felt cheated out of an opportunity!
As he continued to walk away from me, I had set off to follow him. I made sure to keep up with him as he bobbed and weaved through the corn. I didn’t understand it, he literally walked away from me! It seemed the more I went after him, the more he tried to avoid me. I was feeling really upset at this. Why wasn’t he chasing me? I sighed softly in disappointment as I continued follow him. I had no idea where I was going at this point only that I had to keep him within my line of sight.
I almost had lost him a few times, as I kept consistently pursuing the killer. In a way, it was almost comical how fast he had turned away from me before walking. It was almost like he was running away from a killer himself, yet, I was not one. I am not the type to murder people just for the thrill of it. To me, it was very wrong to do. Finally, out of the blue it seemed, I heard a male yell and a female scream. A small smile played at my lips knowing I heard someone at last. But, for me, it was a little too late. I wanted to keep following Mr. Myers everywhere. As I had tried to walk out of the corn finally, two people had run into me like they were in a panic. How in convenient. I grew in irritation as I was facing the two who ran into me until I saw who it was. Obviously knew the male yell was Dwight since he was the only man left, but the female I had no idea. In some ways I was very relieved to see that Kate was indeed, okay. But I was still feeling some slight annoyance since I had wanted to keep following the killer. But that did not mean I couldn’t still follow him.
“Feng!”
“Feng! It’s good to see you’re still alive!” My brown eyes kept looking for the six-foot tall and I was able to spot him from a distance away. With a satisfied smile, I started making my way towards him again, but from a distance when I heard the other two also follow my lead.
“Yes. Sorry. I ran into Michael Myers and oddly enough, he did not kill me.” I openly admitted it to these two, but I wondered, should I tell them about Claudette’s odd behavior while can? While I kept my eyes on the killer, I debated on telling them. But then what would be the point? I was able to feel their stares as I continued on with my pursuit, knowing they had shocked looks on their faces.
“What do you mean when you said he did not kill you? Obviously, you’re here still and very much alive. Though, I can see a bit of a limp in your steps.” Kate stated as she kept up with me easily.
“Well… He was chasing me at first to the point I jumped out of a window on the second story floor of that farmhouse because I was looking for you guys. So, I looked up the window after landing in bushes and saw him staring directly at me.” I had no idea my voice had gone dreamy when I mentioned Michael was staring at me until I briefly looked at the two next to me. I felt heat rise to my face and cleared my throat acting like I had not said or done anything weird. To get the attention off of how I said his name, I quickly went back to explaining how he decided not to kill me. “So, I stood there, you know looking out for him making sure he doesn’t catch me off guard. And there he stood, at the edge of the cornfield; again, just staring at me. Finally, he was approaching me, right? Like he was on a hunt and he was about to attack me till I talked to him…” I admitted with a lot of vagueness to them. I didn’t want Kate nor Dwight to know what I had said to Myers. In a way, I was embarrassed and another way I didn’t want them to look at me differently.
“What did you say that made him not kill you?” Dwight had asked the dreaded question that I was hoping would not get brought up. What could I say? Saying I don’t remember would be a loaded crap. Maybe I should be slightly honest without giving the whole truth away? Mentally, I was face palming myself trying to think of a way to avoid in answering the question.
“I may or may not have scared him off by telling him to stab me. I think he found me a bit unhinged.” I let out a sheepish laugh while blushing. My eyes looked around for Michael only to realize I had lost him. It was rather upsetting to know that she had lost him when he had found her to begin with.
“What the hell Feng? That is completely deranged! I actually can’t believe it worked! And he walked away from you like he was scared of you?” Kate asked with what sounded like fascination. I only nodded at first before validating what she had said.
“Yes, he walked away like I was some deranged person with issues.” I can tell Dwight found it hard to believe that I had been able to oust the killer that hunts every Halloween. If I was in his shoes, I also wouldn’t believe it as well, but I was there. It had happened to me specifically. So, there was no denying it for me, but yet, I also hadn’t told them everything I said to him. I wanted to keep that secret for good. Basically, under lock and key of my heart.
