A/N: Well, this is the final chapter. Boo… I hate endings. -_- Thanks to
everyone who’s rated and reviewed the fic thus far. ^^
This chapter will contain a bit of angst, a tiny bit of smut, and a bit of
needless stupidity… quite the mix, I know. XD
Ethan
rolled over as he started to wake up, lazily reaching out and frowning when his
arm found no Tylor next to him. He opened his bright blue eyes and glanced
around, but smiled when he saw that Tylor was only further down the bed, lying
on his front with the previously abandoned accounts under his nose.
As
if sensing his lover’s gaze, Tylor glanced up and smiled. “Morning.” He
evidently hadn’t been awake much longer than Ethan, as his voice was still
slightly rougher than normal from sleep.
Grinning,
Ethan crawled over to the rogue, who was only wearing the bottoms of his usual
outfit, and unceremoniously made himself a pillow out of Tylor’s backside.
The beast
stared at the human incredulously from over his shoulder. “Ethan… what are you
doing?”
“It’s nice…”
the Guardian mumbled in response, giving one of Tylor’s buttocks an
appreciative rub.
Shaking his
head with a smile, Tylor went back to his finances. “You seem intent on
distracting me from these blasted things,” the beast grumbled, chewing on the
end of his pen.
Ethan just
smirked lazily in reply, his arms wrapping around the rogue’s waist as he
continued to half-doze with his head on Tylor’s hind.
The blonde
beast smiled absently as he finished rounding up his financial matters. He was
just reflecting on how he’d have to give the Vol brothers a stern talking-to
for spending so much on hair products, when Ethan’s voice broke into his
thoughts.
“Tylor, do
you hate Guardians?”
The rogue
looked back at Ethan. “Oh, definitely,” he drawled sarcastically, “There’s no
way in hell I’d let one use my arse as a pillow.”
“Tylor, I’m
serious,” Ethan blinked at the uncharacteristic crudity.
The beast
chuckled. “No, Ethan, I don’t. Why do you ask?”
“Well,” the
human sat up, wriggling down the bed until he was lying next to Tylor. “That time
we first fought together… in the mines… you seemed really annoyed about having
to work with us.”
Tylor went
quiet, drumming his nails against his chin. “…I guess I did once, before I
realised you were a proper Guardian.”
“A ‘proper’
Guardian?” Ethan repeated, taking hold of Tylor’s other hand and stroking it
with his thumb.
The rogue
nodded. “I’ve met a lot of show-offs that liked to flash their titles around…
some of them were worse than rogues. And cowardly…” he shook his head, frowning
slightly, “Some of them would do the most pathetic things to earn fame.”
Ethan
looked disappointed. “I had no idea there were Guardians like that.”
Tylor
smiled reassuringly. “I knew from the start that you were different.”
Ethan
returned the smile. “I remember you saying…” he leaned sideways, resting his
head on the rogue’s strong shoulder. “I thought you were really decent for a
rogue… I had nothing but respect for you,” the human’s brow furrowed slightly.
“I was mad when I saw on the news that they’d issued a warrant for you…”
Tylor
snorted derisively. “You were? Did
you see the photo they used of me? It was bad…” he screwed up his nose. “Very
bad.”
Ethan
laughed outright at that. “Your vanity is really cute.”
“I’m not
vain,” Tylor protested, looking offended. He elbowed Ethan with almost enough
force to knock him off the bed. “There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look
good,” he smirked knowingly, “Like you, with your unzipped jacket…”
“That’s not
vain either! It’s practical.”
Tylor
laughed throatily. “What purpose could it possibly have, other than to show off
your lovely tanned stomach?”
Ethan
smirked at the compliment in spite of himself. His smile widened when he
realised he had no logic excuse.
Tylor
‘hmph’ed in satisfaction, then grunted when Ethan started poking his side.
“Stop that, unless you want bitten.”
Ethan’s
eyebrows winged up. “You’d really bite me? That’d hurt.” He peered at Tylor’s
grinning mouth closely. “You have really sharp teeth.”
“I don’t
need to… your neck is already covered in bites,” Tylor shrugged casually,
gracefully sitting up and stretching.
Ethan also
sat up, groping his throat blindly. “What??” He got up and strode over to the
mirror in the corner of the room, craning his neck and staring. “Gah! I look
like I’ve been attacked by leeches! Good thing I wear a choker…” the Guardian
glared at Tylor’s reflection.
The
handsome beast just gave Ethan a toothy smile. “You object to me marking you as
mine? It wasn’t that when you scratched up my
backend.”
Ethan
smiled sheepishly. “Yeah, well… no one’s gonna see that…” he raised an eyebrow,
“Or at least, they BETTER not…”
Tylor
walked around the bed, leaning over Ethan from behind and kissing the nape of
his neck. “Nope.”
Ethan went
back to smiling languidly, turning around in Tylor’s arms to kiss him
unhurriedly. “So what’s on the agenda today?”
The rogue
considered this, stroking his index finger along Ethan’s sharp cheekbone. “Hmm…
I can’t tell you everything I get up to, you know…”
The human
looked a little hurt. “…Oh. I guess that makes sense.”
Tylor
sighed patiently. “Don’t misunderstand. It’s not that I don’t want to share
with you… it’s about our respective lifestyles.”
Ethan
nodded mutely, pulling Tylor against him tightly, and nuzzling his throat.
“Sometimes that sucks.”
Tylor
leaned his head against the Guardian’s. “It’s not so bad… It’s important that
we have our own space, after all.”
“I like
having you in my space,” Ethan replied petulantly.
“It would
be a different story if I was there all the time,” Tylor argued gently. “Don’t
you think?”
Ethan
pulled back, frowning at the beast. “No, I don’t. I mean, I love you. I wish you were with me all the time, and that’s
no joke.”
Tylor’s
expression turned serious. “Ethan…”
“Forget
it,” Ethan shook his head, not quite sure why he was so annoyed, but knowing that
he was. “I’m gonna head off, now. If that’s ok?” He began to get dressed.
Tylor kept
his back to Ethan, staring numbly at the mirror. His fist clenched and
unclenched.
By the time
Ethan had pulled his trainers on, Tylor still hadn’t spoken, or even moved. The
human sighed. “You’re not going to say anything to me, are you?”
Tylor
inhaled deeply, then let it go again. “I don’t know what to say to you,” he said at last, sounding regretful.
For some
reason, Ethan felt his heart sink at that, and wordlessly shuffled out the
room.
*******
He made his
own way back to the G-colony.
He wasn’t
angry at Tylor, but he couldn’t deny that he was hurt by his casualness
sometimes. He occasionally felt that their relationship meant more to him than
it did the rogue- then again, he supposed that was normal when it was one’s
first time in love.
But didn’t
Tylor admit that Ethan was his first love, too? It didn’t make sense.
Trying not
to appear too dejected on the outside, Ethan went straight to the Guardian’s
HQ, hoping there was a mission available to take his mind off things.
Mina
greeted him with her usual enthusiasm. “Good evening, Ethan! What can I help
you with? Are you looking for a mission?”
“Yeah… if
it’s alright, can I take a solo mission this time?” the Guardian asked. He knew
that if he took Tonnio or Maya along, they would just question him about what
was wrong.
“That’s not
a problem… let’s see what we have,” the girl said helpfully, her eyes scanning
the screen in front of her. “There’s a request for infiltrating an abandoned
lab on Parum… it’s technically a mission for the Intelligence branch, but,” she
winked, “we all know you can handle it. Are you sure you want to go alone,
though?”
“Yeah, sign
me up. It’s perfect,” Ethan smiled confidently.
“Alright.
May the Holy Light guide you.”
*******
Ethan
already felt relieved. There was nothing like a good mission to clear a
Guardian’s head.
The Parum
branch had informed him that he was expected to retrieve an alleged source of
rare photons and protect them from anyone else, but he’d yet to find them. He
also highly doubted anyone else would venture in here, what with the elaborate
trap system he’d had to sneak past- for an deserted lab, it was well-guarded.
The young
male looked at his photon-tracking device. A
reading at last, he thought, and set off in that direction.
He passed
through a large, cluttered room with flickering lights and the droning of old
machinery that had been left on. Was this place really abandoned…?
He was
startled when a pile of junk in the corner started moving, and rushed at him.
It was then that he realised they were guard robots, not lifeless junk after
all.
“Damn, what
a waste of time,” Ethan spat, taking out a double saber and slicing down the
middle of the robot. He grinned at the mess at his feet.
The smile
faded quickly, however, when he heard the clattering of more approaching from
behind.
Before he
could spin around, one of them fired a laser which zapped him in the back and
sent him across the room and into a huge terminal. Unfortunately, the machinery
was still live, and he was shocked for his trouble.
“Uffhhh…”
he groaned, trying to blink the white spots from his eyes. Maybe this was why
he normally took a partner. He sat up, wincing at the pain that shot through
his limbs in protest. He watched helplessly as one of the spider-like robots
scuttled unsteadily towards him, readying another blast from it’s cannon.
A huge
portion of the roof caved in at that moment, promptly crushing the attacking
robots and letting in a shower of rain from outside.
Ethan
yelped and covered his head from falling debris. When he braved a look up, he
was stunned to see Tylor standing amidst the wreckage, an equally shocked look
on his own damp face.
“Ethan!?”
“Tylor!?”
The beast
took a step forward, putting his glittering gold blade away for the time being.
“Are you alright…!? What are you… doing here?”
Ethan
forced himself to his feet, meeting Tylor’s gaze seriously. “I can’t tell you everything I get up to,” he almost
sneered, hoping his voice didn’t sound too pained.
At that,
Tylor frowned deeply. “I see. So that’s how it is. Fine, Ethan. Don’t tell me
why you’re frazzled and bleeding. It’s clearly none of my business,” he growled
in a cold voice that made Ethan shudder. The beast glanced up at the hole he’d
entered by, cocking his head sharply. On cue, a handful of armed rogues leapt
down, and with one last look at Ethan, Tylor sped off with his men in tow.
…Then it
clicked that the two men had the same goal.
*******
The human
took off after the rogue as fast as he could. He wasn’t thinking clearly. His
mind just couldn’t get around the fact that he’d have to fight his lover. But
he couldn’t return from this mission empty-handed; his pride as a Guardian just
wouldn’t allow it.
He burst
into a dark office and stopped dead in his tracks when he came face to face
with Tylor.
The moment
was almost identical to that when they first met- Tylor was standing calmly
without his weapon drawn. His face was a serious mask that somehow didn’t reach
his eyes.
“It seems
you’re after the same thing as myself,” the rogue said, breaking the heavy
silence. His fellow rogues were nowhere to be seen.
Ethan took
a deep breath. “Yeah. It seems so.”
“You’re
serious about getting these,” Tylor gestured to a black box behind him, “Aren’t
you?”
Ethan took
a defensive stance, drawing out his Death Dancers. “Yeah.”
Tylor
smiled grimly in a way that Ethan hadn’t seen on him before, then it was
quickly gone. “Have it your way…” the man’s trademark saber appeared in his
hand, and he slowly advanced towards Ethan.
In
response, the human leapt forward, immediately locking weapons. He glared into
Tylor’s red eyes unwaveringly. “This had to happen eventually.”
Tylor
snorted. “That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you, all this time.” He pushed
forward, forcing Ethan back a few steps.
The
Guardian frowned, gritting his teeth and pushing back. This time it was Tylor
who was knocked back, and bumped against a desk. “Forgive me if I was too
blindly in love with you to acknowledge it!”
Tylor turned
his face away when Ethan leaned in closer, glaring accusingly. “…‘Was?’” he
echoed quietly.
Ethan
faltered, then his frown deepened with visible anger, and he pressed one of his
blades against the beast’s throat. “You idiot!! Maybe you find it easy to switch your emotions on and off when it suits
you, but I can’t do that!” he
struggled to get a rein on his temper, knowing it only caused problems. “Tylor,
I just can’t think the way you do!”
Tylor
shoved Ethan away from him, ignoring the way he nicked his throat on the sword
as he did so. He glared furiously. “So, you think I’m emotionless now? Ethan,
has it ever occurred to you that you’re ALWAYS blaming these circumstances on
me? Is it because I’m a rogue?” he walked towards Ethan slowly, his eyes burning
into the human’s. “Is it because I’m older and should ‘know better?’ If this
relationship causes you so much stress… perhaps you should be considering
whether it’s really worth it or not,” Tylor stopped, holding his chin up and
looking every bit the proud beast that he really was.
Ethan
stared up at his lover in disbelief, the words sinking in with an icy plunge.
His expression wavered between grief and anger. “You want to… to end it, with
me?”
Tylor’s
eyes narrowed. “No, Ethan- believe it or not, that is the very last thing I
want. I’m asking if it’s what you
want.”
The
Guardian strode up to Tylor, staring straight into his tanned face. “How could
you think I want that!?” He lost control of his temper again, and swung a fist
which Tylor predictably caught, before they both fell to the floor, cursing at
each other.
“Why can’t
you just accept that we’ll never be a normal couple, Ethan?” Tylor spat, his
hands pushing at the human’s shoulders.
“I can accept that!” Ethan shot back,
burying his hands in the rogue’s hair and tugging their faces together. Before
he could stop it, his eyes had welled up, and tears streaked their way down the
side of his face. He drew in a shaky breath, staring helplessly at Tylor. “I
can accept it… but… I’m still bothered by it. But what really bothers me… is
that you don’t seem to mind it half as much.”
Tylor
sighed, letting his eyes drift closed. “I can’t afford to worry about things
like that. Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t see the need to lose sleep over
something that I know will be fine. You and me, Ethan… we’re good. Even if we
don’t get to see each other as much as other people, it doesn’t mean we’re any
less in love. I think that… we can get through anything. And that’s why I don’t
worry.”
Ethan
blinked, his temper fading in an instant. “Tylor…?”
“Ethan?”
“Kiss me?”
The beast
smiled, at last, closing the distance between their mouths as Ethan had
requested.
It was then
that Ethan realised seeing Tylor’s easygoing smile was all he really needed in
the first place.
*******
“So…” the
beast’s husky voice startled Ethan, who had been content with hiding his face
in the rogue’s shoulder for an unknown amount of time.
“Mm?”
“…Go take
the photons back to the G-colony. I’m assuming there’s some kind of time limit,
right?”
Ethan
lifted his head, gazing down at his lover. “What…? But…”
“Ethan,
it’s ok. I can afford to let this one slip, alright? For you, anyway,” the
beast quirked a wry smile.
Ethan
leaned down to kiss Tylor hungrily, his hand taking a firm grip in the other
male’s silky hair. He pulled back after a moment, and glanced at Tylor’s neck.
“Damn, you’re bleeding. We should get that cut treated.”
“It’s a
shallow wound, don’t worry about it,” Tylor said softly, sitting up. He rested
his arms on his knees and went on smiling. “Need a lift back to the colony?”
Ethan was
silent.
“What?
What’s wrong?” The rogue leader let out a quiet ‘oof’ when Ethan threw himself
into his strong arms, kissing at his jaw.
“I love
you. I really mean it.”
“Heh. I
know you do.”
*******
The Landeel
was a ship well-known for it’s speed and graceful flight- but with the way it
was flying at the moment, it looked as if some inexperienced or drunken thief
had snuck onboard and couldn’t control it properly.
“Stop it,
Ethan…” Tylor panted, his back to the controls, one hand splayed haphazardly
over the buttons. “This is NOT the time or place…!”
Ethan just
grinned against the beast’s throat, licking sensuously at the thin cut from
earlier. It had stopped bleeding long ago, but that didn’t stop him.
“Ethan, I mean
it… I--” he was cut off as the ship jolted them both, before resuming a
reasonably steady course. “…Now
look, Ethan. We just hit hell knows
what.”
Ethan
snickered, covering it with his forearm. “Sorry… can you just, land the ship
for now?”
Tylor
sighed, rolling his eyes, and complied. As soon as he turned to face the human
again, Ethan was kissing him for all he was worth, wasting no time in
unfastening the rogue’s clothes.
The beast
let out a soft exhalation of defeat, when the Guardian licked and kissed a slow
path down his stomach. “I said… this wasn’t a good place… oh, why do I even
bother… you’re not listening, are you?” Tylor muttered, mostly to himself.
The
Guardian nibbled mischievously at Tylor’s hip, then smirked. “I’m
half-listening,” he ran his thumb down the junction between the beast’s hip and
thigh. “It’s hard to ignore that voice of yours.”
Tylor gazed
down at Ethan warily. “I really don’t approve of this in here. When did I start
losing control of you, exactly?” his tone was amused in spite of his words.
“Umm…”
Ethan pretended to think about it, “…I’d say, roughly when you took my
virginity,” and he laughed brightly before licking along Tylor’s hardness and
then sucking it into his mouth, hard.
The rogue’s hand thumped onto the console behind him as he grunted, and before
he knew it, the windows were being washed and missiles were being launched.
Neither of
them could muster up the will to care.
Unfortunately,
the Landeel’s sudden outburst of random and unnecessary commands could hardly
go unnoticed, and one of the doors to the bridge slid open to reveal Hiru Vol,
flapping his hands like a madman.
“Caaaap-taaaain,
are we under att--” he stopped dead in his tracks when he saw what Ethan was
doing, his mouth hanging open in shock.
Tylor
grabbed Ethan’s head in horror, using it to cover his dignity, while the
human’s entire face went roughly the same colour as Hiru’s hideous boots.
“Hiru, get
the hell out!!” Tylor spluttered at the stunned newman.
The other
rogue snapped back to his senses, and stamped a foot in outrage. “You… you…
DAMN YOU, ETHAN!!” and he ran out of the room, sobbing loudly.
Tylor and
Ethan were completely silent as the door slid closed again.
“…What was
that?” the human muttered against Tylor’s thigh.
Tylor
blinked. “I’d be the last to know.”
*******
After
hastily tidying themselves up, Tylor and Ethan decided it was wise go outside
and check the exterior of the ship to see what they had hit earlier.
On the way
out, Hiru stormed past Ethan, bumping his shoulder viciously and glaring over his
shoulder at the Guardian as he passed.
The human
shook his head in disbelief, thoroughly unsettled. “Hey, uh, Tylor…? You don’t
think he’ll tell anyone, will you? I mean, if the wrong ears hear about it…”
Tylor shook
his head as he opened the door leading outside, the ramp whirring into place.
“No, I don’t think he’d be so foolish. He’s seen my temper…” he smirked without
humour.
Ethan
grinned a bit. “I like your temper.”
They walked out onto the sand and around to the nose of the Landeel.
“That’s
because you don’t seem to fear me enough, anymore… but don’t worry- that can be
rectified,” Tylor smiled wickedly, resting his hands on his hips and squinting
up at his ship.
“Heheh… is
that a promise?” the younger male replied, following his lover’s gaze and shielding
his eyes from the sun with one hand. “Doesn’t look damaged. Shall we go back
in? I feel like a shower,” he tilted his head and side-glanced at the beast.
“And we still need to finish what we started, so…”
Tylor
arched an eyebrow. “No amount of showering is going to wash away how filthy you
are,” he jested. “Let’s go, then.” He stepped closer and pressed his mouth
gently to Ethan’s, tracing the human’s lips with his tongue lingeringly. “Oh,
and… don’t forget the rules.”
Ethan
smiled against Tylor’s mouth. “I wouldn’t dare.” He was about to deepen the
kiss when his nano-communicator went off. “Damn it… hold on,” he lifted one
hand to his ear, the other staying where it was on Tylor’s waist. “Oh, Karen…!? What is it?”
Tylor
frowned a little in disapproval.
“Your
shuttle was hit by the Landeel…? Huh?? Then you got shot down by missiles!?” he
had to bite his lip against the laugh that almost burst out. “A-are you
alright…? Sure, I’ll contact HQ for assistance… What? No, I can’t… I’m in the
middle of a mission, it would be quicker to send for someone else… Yeah, sorry.
Hang in there,” the Guardian cut the conversation, stared at Tylor, then they
both hurried aboard the Landeel to get as far away from the scene as possible.
-THE END
A/N: *cough* So I might have been a wee
bit hyper when I wrote the last bit of this chapter. But what I can I say, I
wanted to end it on a good note.
And I HATE Karen. -_- She is a waste of skin, with her stupid nasal voice and
skanky outfit.
Thanks for
reading. ^^ Let me know what you think.
Knowing me,
I’ll write another fic when the expansion comes out, because to be fair, I saw
a screenshot of Ethan in it and he looks good.
Later!
