Chapter Five.Five days later; Farrin was grabbing a few items and getting them into a small carrier that she carried around her shoulder. Narrasumi was sitting at the bar watching her frowning. “You know Nero and Dante will not like that you are skipping out on training, Rin.”“If I do not seek out the devils, Narra, then they do not have a purpose in life and the world would be overrun by devils.” Farrin said, as she started to head for the garage where her vehicle was at. She looked at the clock. “They will not be awake for another hour. I should be back by noon today; if I found any and if I haven’t I shall return at dusk.”
She took a look at the stairs that led to where they slept at; Narrasumi knew they would try to go after her but with how fast she moves when she needs to – they wouldn’t be able to catch her. She busied herself with the daily chores knowing when they woke and find her sister gone – they may not be very happy with her.

It was five hours later when Farrin returned, only to be pinned against the wall by Nero who was barking mad at her for leaving without telling them. Dante was not even really minding the calm but angry toned partner of his who was bitching out their trainee.
Farrin growled, as she withdrew a notebook and flung it at Dante. “Your job for the day, Dante, I went searching and found about seven packs of devils. You both need to get to work on them before I go hire another.”
Dante flipped the book open and read the report. He closed it as he walked past Nero, yanking him off of Rin. “We got a job to do. Training can wait for a few hours.”
Nero looked at him. “What kind of job?”
“A lupine,” Dante stated, as he headed out of the kitchen to the garage where he opened the bay and got into his red car. “You coming, kid?”
“I’m coming.” Nero grabbed his gear and hopped into the car as they burned rubber leaving the drive way.
Narrasumi and Farrin watched as they left. “How did it go?”
“I was able to track it to its lair and counted how many lupine devils there was. Why do you ask?” Farrin asked.
“I’m going with them.” Narrasumi stated, as she rushed to where her personal weapons were and grabbed her guns and her sword as she raced into her truck and sped after Dante and Nero leaving her sister at home.
Farrin made sure that her house was secure before she started to make the pizza dough for the pizzas that they would be starving for when they returned.
~~~~~~~~~~
Narrasumi got on their tails as they drove towards the locale that her sister told them about. They pulled to the place and stepped from their vehicles. Nero pulled his sword as they walked down the vacant street. His trigger was glowing which meant only one thing to him – devils were about.
It only took the lupines a few minutes to start attacking the three hunters and it took about twenty minutes to slay them all as they took their time slaying them.
Narrasumi looked over at Dante and Nero. “You two were toying with them, weren’t you?”
Dante smirked. “Yes, we let them believe that they have a chance at defeating us when we know they won’t.”
Nero chuckled as he stood there sheathing his gun. “Or otherwise, we would just get bored shooting at them. This way, we get to have a bit of fun.” As he started to head back to the car.
Narrasumi just chuckled as she, too, followed them to where they had parked the cars. She climbed into her car and out of the corner of her eye, she swore she saw a ball of fire appear. She rubbed her eyes to see if there was something in her eyes that made her see that. When she looked at where it was but it had vanished. She shrugged and followed the car back to their home, never noticing that the ball of fire became bigger and into a human form before it too vanished from sight.
~~~~~~~~~~~
“Smells like pizza!” spoke Dante, smelling the air as he entered the house.
“I hope so.” Farrin rose from behind the island to see Dante with both his guns out aiming at her as he twirled them before sheathing them with a look of relief on his face. “They just got done. Now all three of you reek of Devils, so go take a shower and get clean. The pizzas will be ready to eat by the time you get down here or up here again.”
They all nodded as they headed off to the showers. Nero stopped as he started to climb down the stairs. “Dante, you take the shower here, I’ll get the shower in the master bath.”
Dante nodded as he headed down the stairs peeling off his red leather jacket and his weapons as he went. He made sure that his weapons were close by in case he need to get to them fast. He stepped into the shower and started to rinse off all the sweat off of his body before he started to scrub his body down with soap.
In the master bathroom, Nero was working on rinsing off all the grime and sweat off of his body. He started to think back about how Narrasumi fired off her weapons. He could tell she used them a great deal and was really good at nailing the devils. He almost thought about asking Dante to hire her for Devil May Cry, it would make her move to Fortuna and if Farrin’s anything like her sister, if Narrasumi moved there, she would follow. It gave him an idea, but he would have to talk to Farrin about it first. But just as he was about to step from the shower, he realized if he did that, it would make him seem too forward. He would have to chat with his partner first about Narrasumi.
He finished his shower and dried off before getting dressed. He headed downstairs to the room that they shared. His partner was still in the shower as Nero leaned against the wall with his boot against it. “Dante, do you think Narrasumi would be good for Devil May Cry?”
Dante heard Nero come into the bathroom and the question he posed. “I was just thinking about her. I think I will pose the question to her tonight to see if she’s willing to join our ranks.”
“You know it means getting the storage room back into a bedroom upstairs?” Nero replied.
“Yeah, I know.” Dante said, as he turned off the shower and opened the door to reach for his towel. “It would mean Farrin moves to Fortuna as well. That may be the biggest problem they will have.”
Nero pushed himself off the wall. “The horses?”
“Yeah,” Dante said, as he emerged from the shower with the towel wrapped around his waist. “They’ll have to find a place to board them or find a farm for them to live at. I doubt she’ll sell them.”
“I can start the search. I have connections with some of the farmers on the edge of town.” Nero replied. “They may take on the horses for a small fee a month.”
“That is if Narrasumi joins the Agency, Nero. If she doesn’t, we’re not going to push.” Dante stated, as he grabbed another towel and started to dry off of his hair.
“Let’s hope Narrasumi agrees.” Nero said, as he headed for the bedroom to get his shirt. “I may go visit my friends and see if they would take on couple of horses and if not, I’ll search for a small farm for them to buy so they can keep their horses close to them.”
“Better start on the buying side, if there is no farms to purchase, Nero, go to your contacts.” Dante replied as he stood in the frame looking at him as he pulled on his shirt.
“I’ll do that after we get paid and eat some pizza.” Nero said, as he finished pulling on his boots.
Dante smiled. “Pay would be good but pizza is better.” As he headed for his bag to get dressed.
“Yeah, both are good.” Nero said, as he headed for the stairs, already he could smell the pizzas just waiting to be devoured.
~~~~~~~~~~
Thirty minutes later, the four pizzas that Farrin made for them were gone. Nero got up from his chair and picked up his plate and napkin. “I have to run out for a bit tomorrow, I should be back by dusk.”
Farrin pulled out a roll of money and tossed it at Dante who caught it before it hit his chest. She tossed another to Nero who caught it in his right hand. “There is your payment for the slaying of the lupines, Dante, Nero. Sis, yours has already been given. Now don’t spend it all in one place.”
Nero glanced over at his partner. “Oh it has been already, on lights, phone and pizza by the time the month is out.”
Farrin and Narrasumi laughed as Dante just shrugged his shoulders. “I do try to keep the agency functioning. Besides, partner, you owe me 50% of that.” He held his gloved hand out ready to accept payment.
Nero rolled his blue eyes as he pulled half of the money that he just got and placed it in his outstretched hand. “Next time, just ask at the end of the month for it. It’ll be easier.”
“Whatever, kid.” Dante replied as he pocketed the money Nero gave to him. He glanced over at Farrin. “Ready to start learning how to fight with your sword, Farrin,” He glanced at the clock to see that it was only about 4pm in the afternoon and the sun still shone. “We got time before night falls on us,”
“Sure, let’s do it . . . unless you two are too tired to do this?” Farrin asked, as she looked at them both.
“We can fight for several hours without tiring, Farrin, practicing will not tire us out.” Nero replied, as he got out of his chair and headed for the pasture with his weapon on his back.
Dante followed the girls out to the pasture where they had plenty of space to start really working on the swings that Farrin must learn. Narrasumi pulled out targets for her guns when she did her target practice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Here’s what you need to know, Farrin.” Nero stated, as he started to demonstrate the various swings. “You must be able to do at a moment’s notice in a battle or in practice. What you learn here will help you when the time comes.”
She watched as he demoed so many various moves and blocks that it made her mind spin. “It is so many. How can I be able to do all that in battle?”
Dante looked over at her as he warmed up with his own moves. “After your first block against your attacker whether it be devil or human, it will come naturally.” He turned to look down at Rebellion in his hand. “And sometimes, you will get cut or injured I will not lie to you about that as it will happen.”
“Even the best of us will get hit.” Nero replied, remembering his first fight with Dante and how many times they drew blood, mainly Dante’s.
“You got some lucky strikes on me, kid.” Dante said, as he recalled the first fight that they did against each other.
Nero’s cocky smirk was on his lips as he looked at him. “Yeah, I did.” He turned his attention back to Farrin. “Okay, let us see what you remember of the swings that I demoed for you,”
She tried her best to recall them all, but right from the start she did it wrong as Nero stopped her and showed her again. This went on for about three hours with him assisting her. It got to the point where she was getting frustrated as was Nero. He sheathed Red Queen on his back and went behind her and held her hands on her sword as he did the swings with her. She started to get the picture. “I’m really sorry that I’m so stupid about the swings, Nero. You are very patient with one who is so stupid about it.”
“You are not stupid, Rin, just not trained.” Nero replied, making her turn to look at him.
“I am stupid. Even after seeing you do the moves, I should have been able to do some of them at least okay, but I fucked it up.” Farrin stated, as she flung her sword right into the ground and started to walk away.
“Are you going to quit on us, like the coward you are, sis?” asked Narrasumi. She knew if anyone called her sister a coward, it would make her more determined to succeed.
Farrin turned very slowly around to face her sister but before she was able to do anything towards her sister, a blue jacket was in front of her. “You are not stupid.” Spoke the voice.
Farrin slowly looked up to see light blue eyes and white hair of Nero looking down at her. “I am. I’ll never get the moves down right.”
“It is your first day of training. I would be more shocked if you took to it fast. It will improve over time, Rin. I promise you that.”
“You mean it, Nero?” asked Rin.
Nero huffed at his memory. “I remember the first day I tried to swing my sword, I failed to even make the swings that my teacher showed to me. I got angry with myself about not being able to do it perfectly. My teacher told me it would take time for me to learn it all and just to be patient with myself as I learned. It is the same way with you.”
Dante came over holding her sword to her. “Are you ready to try again?”
She took hold of the hilt and hoisted it onto her shoulder. “You better believe it.”
They smiled as they watched her work on her swings with her sword. They spent the rest of the afternoon and evening doing that till they called it a night and headed inside.
“Narra, may I have a word with you?” asked Nero as he grabbed her arm as they started to walk into the house.
“On the deck,” She led him to the deck and took a chair. “Okay, what do you want to talk to me about?”
“A job,” Nero replied.
Narrasumi looked at him seriously. “A job at the agency, correct?”
“Yes, would you join our ranks?” asked Nero. “I’ve already spoken to Dante about it and he agrees that your skill would be useful to us.”
“Can I think about it, Nero?”
“Sure, let me know when you decide.” Nero stated as he walked away from her.
“Nero, what about my sister?”
“She can come to Fortuna and get her pizza parlor started.” Nero replied. “After all, we don’t have that many pizza parlors in the city and it would be good to have one that does their pizza dough fresh each day.”
“Most pizza places make their dough the night before so they have time to rise by morning, Nero.” Narrasumi stated. “Rin always makes extra rounds for the next day.”
“But whatever she does to them, Narra, they end up really delicious and crispy.” Nero said. “I’ll be heading out tomorrow to find a place for you and her to stay at with the horses since she wouldn’t want to sell them, just in case you decide to join us.”
“You got that right, Nero. She wouldn’t sell them she would refuse to leave here.” Narra stated. “So what are you going to say to her tomorrow when you leave?”
“That I have to go back to the shop to tend to it since both partners are out, it leaves the shop empty of employees. Dante knows and he’ll take over her teaching till I come back.” Nero replied.
“That sounds like a good plan.”
“Good, I will be leaving in the morning right after breakfast.”
Narra nodded, as she stood up and headed for the door, she paused. “Oh by the way, Nero,”
“Yes?” Nero asked, as he turned to look at her.
“The answer is yes, I’ll join the ranks of Devil May Cry Detective Agency.” And she walked into the house and disappeared around the corner.
Dante came from around the corner of the deck. “So she’s joining our ranks?”
“Yes, which means they’ll be moving to Fortuna within a few weeks, Dante.” Nero replied, as he looked at his partner.
“So you will be talking to your contacts with the farmers then?”
Nero nodded, as he looked at the sky. “I won’t be able to talk with them till tomorrow morning.”
“So you will be heading out in the morning?” Dante asked.
“Yes, I’ll leave right after breakfast.” He stated, as they walked towards the door. “Will you take over practice with Rin for me till I get back?”
“Sure thing kid,” Dante as he headed into the house.
