Roxas’ POV Five weeks. That’s how long it has been since I last saw him. Five weeks since Larxene had kicked me out and told me I wasn’t needed. For the first week or so, I kept my distance. I didn’t want to anger Larxene anymore than I seemed to already have. “What are you to him?” That question kept replaying in my mind, like a broken record. She’d really thrown me for a loop with that one. I wasn’t denying that, yes, I consider myself a friend of Axel’s, but the way I feel for him seems so much more. At first it was a simple attraction, nothing more. But once I had gotten to know the man, it was hard not to feel anything more than friendship for him. And no doubt, that when Larxene had asked me that one straightforward question, she had sensed my hesitation. She knew I felt more for him. And it angered me. That the one person that I didn’t want knowing my personal feelings had caught on to it with a simple pause in my answer. By the third week I felt the need to check on him, just to see if everything was ok. When I hadn’t gotten an answer I didn’t think anything of it. When I had tried for the fourth time that week and still not gotten an answer, it was then I started to think that maybe he was ignoring me. Slightly disheartened, I thought it best to give him some space. Into the fourth week I was getting anxious to see him. The best way to describe it would be, at one point I’d had this really awesome drug in my life that would give me such a high and make me feel amazing. Then it was just taken away from me, forcing me to go cold turkey. I was having Axel withdrawals. Even being at work couldn’t take my mind off of him. Every time the shop door opened I’d instantly look up to see if it was the lanky redhead walking through it. I was always disappointed. By the end of the fourth week I decided to try at his apartment again. So during my lunch break on the Friday I bought two coffees to go and took them to Axel’s apartment. Knocking on his door I still didn’t get an answer, but I decided to not give up so easily this time. I sat outside of his apartment, in the hopes that if he was in, he’d eventually answer. Or maybe by the off chance I’d catch him coming home. 20 minutes I’d stayed there. I drank my, by then lukewarm coffee, and left his at the door. I wrote a quick note on the sleeve of one of the coffee cups. ‘I don’t know if you’re avoiding me, or you’re simply not here but I brought you coffee. I’ll leave it outside your apartment just in case you feel like having it. Probably not though. I hope everything is ok. Maybe come by my place sometime just to catch up. See you soon? Roxas.’ I slid it under his door, and carried on my way back to work. When it was time for me to head back home for the day I decided I’d check at Axel’s once more. I noticed that the note I’d written Axel was propped up by the cup I’d left there. Quickly I picked up the note and turned it over in the hopes that he’d written something on the back of it. There was nothing there. The coffee cup was still full and now ice cold. Letting out a sigh I picked the coffee up and threw it in the trash on the way back to my place. If he wasn’t going to make any effort to see me, then I wasn’t going to make an effort to see him. It was a bit childish of me, I admit. But I was getting tired of trying to make contact with him when he so clearly didn’t want it. On the fifth week I was on my way to work. Just as I got into the lobby of the complex I noticed a tall blonde haired man with a mullet, a blue checkered shirt and jeans torn at the knees. He looked absolutely frozen. I mean who wears just a shirt and jeans in weather this cold. When he noticed me his eyes lit up and he grinned. Upon opening the door, he promptly entered. “T-thanks for opening the door man, my stupid friend isn’t answering his intercom” he huffed, crossing his arms in an attempt to get warm. “No problem” I replied as I looked at my watch seeing I still had a good half hour before I had to be at work. “You haven’t by any chance seen a tall redhead about my height? I’ve not heard from him in weeks. Apparently none of his friends have” He inquired with his hand raised up to his head indicating his height. “You mean Axel?” I asked. “Yeah! Have you seen him?” I questioned excitedly. “No, sorry, I’ve not seen him myself for about a month” I answered with a hint of sadness. “Oh…” The blonde haired man replied as he rubbed the back of his head. “That’s about how long we haven’t seen him, too” I heaved a sigh of relief. At least now I knew he wasn’t avoiding just me. Selfish as that seemed I was so happy to hold that knowledge. “I know he was home the other week, but he wouldn’t answer his door when I tried reaching him” I said as I tapped my finger on my chin. “Maybe if someone else tries instead of me, he’ll answer?” I suggested to the green eyed man before me. “It’s worth a try” He grinned. I looked at my watch again and saw I had a little over fifteen minutes to get to work. I decided that work could wait a little longer. No one wants books this early in the morning anyways. So I followed the mullet haired man to Axel’s apartment. The man knocked loudly on Axel’s door. “Axeeeeel!” He yelled against the wood. “Come on man! Open up! It’s me, Demyyyyx~” he sing-songed, waiting a few seconds for any hint of a reply “Come on fire crotch! We just want to know if you’re alive in there. Tell me to fuck off if you’re living, and I’ll leave you alone” There was a few more seconds of silence before we heard the faint sound of a strained voice saying the words ‘fuck off’ Demyx and I both grinned. “Good to know you’re still living, man” The blonde yelled through the door. He began tapping loudly on the door, with no sign of stopping. “I lied” he began “I’m not leaving you alone. Not until we see you. Axel we’re worried about you, just let us at least see you and we Promise! To leave you be” Five minutes had passed and Demyx hadn’t ceased his tapping against the door. It was becoming rather annoying. Suddenly the door that Demyx was leaning against snapped open, causing the man to fall to the floor with a ‘meep’ “There, you’ve seen me. Now fuck off” I looked at the red head. His once vibrant eyes now looked vacant, with dark circles beneath them. His hair had lost all of its lustre and his cheeks looked sunken in. To say he looked bad would have been an understatement. “Now way, man” Demyx said as he struggled to stand up. “We’re coming in. We haven’t seen you in ages. You’re not getting rid of us that easily” and with that Demyx pushed past him and headed into the living room. Axel stayed stood in the doorway for a few moments until he finally looked at me. “Are you coming or not?” he asked gruffly. I nodded hesitantly before he stepped aside for me to enter. His apartment was a tip. I looked around and there were dirty dishes, empty food cans and clothes strewn all over the floor. Axel himself looked like he hadn’t washed the entire time he’d been in hiding. I saw Demyx coming from the kitchenette with a sour face. “Axel, why don’t you have any food?” He grumbled as he rubbed his stomach. “I didn’t realise it was my duty to feed you” Axel spoke as he flopped down on to the sofa, hugging a cushion to his stomach and curling his knees to his chest. “Axel you look awful” I stated as I sat down on the floor in front of him. When I didn’t get a response from him I huffed. “What? No comeback?” I asked with a laugh. Axel simply turned over so his back was facing me. Demyx plopped himself down beside me and looked at me with a concerned face. I simply shrugged my shoulders. “Axe, what happened, man? I haven’t seen you this down in years” He asked in a gentle voice. Axel’s response was to hug the cushion he was holding, tighter. “We can’t help if you don’t tell us” I commented to his back. “Who said I needed your help?” His voice muffled as he spoke. “Ah, so you do need help then?” Finally we were getting somewhere. “I don’t mean to be rude, Roxas, but it’s really none of your business” He did have a point there. Damn him. Sighing, I leant back on my hands and looked up at the ceiling. “How’s your hand?” I spoke up still focusing on one place on the ceiling. He shrugged. “S’fine. How’s your face?” He mumbled, glancing back at me quickly. I smiled slightly at his question. “Huh, it’s better. No bruising anymore. My face looks a darn sight better than yours at this moment in time, though” I joked. “Not possible” he began “Even with at least a week of hardly any sleep I still look hotter” Demyx let out a loud laugh at Axel’s words. I merely pulled my face in offense. “Aww, don’t you look cute with a pouty face, Roxas!” Demyx cooed placing both his hands either side of my face, squishing my cheeks. I shrugged myself away from him, feeling more than uncomfortable with a man I’d only just met currently holding my face. “I’m not cute” I huffed. It was then that Axel turned round to look at me. He threw his cushion at my head and laughed slightly. “Oh, no. Because you’re the epitome of manliness, Roxas. What with your 5”5 feminine frame, cherub cheeks and big blue eyes. No you’re definitely not cute” He smirked at me. Axel thinks I’m cute? “You’re one to talk!” I argued back. “You’re not exactly the buffest guy here. Demyx has more muscle on him than you do” Demyx cut in “Girls! You’re both cute!” Axel laughed at the blondes words. I just rolled my eyes. It was then that Demyx stood up. “I need to take a leak” he proclaimed. “Nice” Axel said as he covered his eyes with his arm as he flopped back down on to the couch. When Demyx left the room, I scooted closer to the couch. I placed my arms on the seat and rested my chin against my arms. Axel removed his arm from his eyes to look at me curiously. “Yes?” he asked amusedly.“You gonna tell me why you’ve been a hermit for over a month” I questioned him, raising an eyebrow. “You gonna leave me alone if I do?” he retorted. “I can’t make any promises” I grinned back. Axel exhaled a laugh, smiling a little at me. But the smile didn’t last long “I kicked Larxene out. And the baby might not be mine” He spoke quietly. “What?” I said as I sat up straight. “And she told you this?” “Not outright, but it didn’t take me long to figure it out” He rubbed his eyes with his fist and let out a sigh. “I’ve had a long time to think about it since. I’m over her. I think I have been for a long time. But damn, I already loved that baby” He sat up from his position on the couch and crossed his legs. “Axel, I’m sorry. I can’t even begin to imagine how you feel” I sighed looking down at the floor. I felt his warm hand rest on my head as he ruffled my hair. “I’ll be fine, Roxas” He said with a small smile. I smiled back at him, thankful he was ok. “Ahem” Demyx cleared his throat, making Axel snatch his hand back from me. “Well aren’t we cosy” Demyx smirked, placing a hand on his hip. I could feel my face heating up. “Shut up” Said Axel shooting Demyx an amused glare. “Shit!” I cried as I looked at my watch. “I really have to go, I didn’t realise I’d left it so long, I was supposed to be in work almost an hour ago!” I walked over to Demyx and shook his hand. “It was nice meeting you” I said to him, to which he grinned at me and uttered a ‘likewise’. Then I turned my attention to Axel. Quickly I walked over and hugged him. I could tell he was surprised by my sudden action as he tensed up slightly. “It’s good to see you’re alive. I’ll catch up with you later” I felt Axel exhale against my ear as he returned the hug. “Yeah, yeah… See you around short stuff” He replied as I retreated back from the hug. I waved my goodbyes as I left Axel’s apartment, in a slightly better mood than I had been for weeks. xoxoxox Axel's POV Once Roxas had left I told Demyx everything about Larxene and the baby. “Wow…” Demyx began. “I always thought you and Larx would be together forever!” He threw his hands up in the air at his last words. “Demyx you sound like a little kid. Nothing lasts forever” I shook my head slightly and smiled at him. “Besides, I’m better off without her. You’ve never seen her when she gets angry, and she had the gall to accuse me of cheating when she was doing it for the last few months” I sighed and rested my head against the back of the couch. “So…” I glanced sideway at Demyx as he spoke. “How long have you known Roxas?” “I dunno… 2 months maybe? Why?” I asked with a laugh. “He’s cute” I could feel my cheeks heating up at Demyx’s words. I had no idea why though. “You like him?” I asked curiously. “Nah… I’ve got my own little ball of cuteness at home” Demyx laughed as he rubbed the back of his neck “It still doesn’t mean I can’t think other guys are cute though…” “I suppose you’re right” I said looking at him with a small smile. “He is kinda cute… For a guy” “Oh” Demyx grinned. “What?” I said confused. “Oh… nothing” he laughed. “Whatever” I threw a pillow at his head, causing the blond to let out a ‘hey’ Demyx sighed and stood up, dusting his pants off after having sat on the floor. He stretched his arms and let them fall lazily to his sides. “I’m head off, man. You gonna be ok on your own? No more going into hiding, right?” he said as he leant forward waggling his index finger at me in a motherly fashion. “I’ll be fine. Get lost already” I laughed as I waved his finger out of my face. “I’ve got great friends, Dem. I’m gonna be fine” xoxoxox Once Demyx had left I decided it would be a good idea to have a clean out of my apartment. Not only was it a pig sty but it also still contained a lot of Larxene’s belongings. I needed to wipe the slate clean. It was going to be hard but I had to do it, for my own health. So I rolled up my sleeves and grabbed a hair tie, pulling my hair back I tied it off loosely at the base of my neck satisfied that it wouldn’t get in my face when cleaning. I looked around my apartment once more and huffed. “I hate mess” I mumbled to myself. I was annoyed that I let myself get into the state I had. At that thought my stomach growled loudly. I hadn’t eaten properly in almost a week as I’d run out of food at some point. Ugh it’s going to be a long day. --- 4 hours later I had almost finished tackling the kitchenette and the living room. I sat on the couch absolutely exhausted. I had no idea one person could make so much mess. Feeling the need to relax a little I reached into my pocket and pulled out my last cigarette. Sparking it up I placed it between my lips and inhaled deeply. Slowly I exhaled letting the smoke billow around me. I immediately felt one hundred times better. Suddenly I heard a knock at the door. Letting out a small groan of protest I placed the cig into the ashtray on the coffee table. Reluctantly I stood up and walked to the door. Opening it I saw my little blonde neighbour. “Hey. You’re probably sick of seeing me aren’t you?” Roxas asked shyly. Smiling crookedly I leant against the wooden frame of the doorway, crossing my arms. “Just a little…” I joked. When I saw his face drop I rolled my eyes. “God, Roxas. You’re so easy” I stepped aside and let him in. “You cleaned” he stated. “Sure did, Sherlock” I mocked as I walked past him to the couch, reclaiming my cigarette. I looked at Roxas as he was just stood in the middle of my living room with his hands in his pockets. He looked as if he felt out of place. I patted the seat next to me, indicating for him to sit. “You’d think after you being here so many times, that you’d at least make yourself feel at home” I pointed out as he sat down next to me. “Unlike you, moron, I have manners…” he said snootily. “Says the one who just called me a moron, moron.” There were a few moments of silence after that. It was then that my stomach chose to speak up again. I blushed as Roxas looked at me incredulously. “Be quiet” I chastised my abdomen. “I have no food in” I then explained to the blond sat next to me. “Oh. I could order Chinese in if you want?” he offered. “You sure?” what can I say; I wasn’t one to turn down free food if it was offered. He nodded. Once I’d told him what I wanted he pulled out his phone, indicating that he was going to the next room to make the call A few minutes later he came back and sat down next to me. “Food should be here in about thirty minutes” he said looking at me. But his gaze lingered a bit too long. I could feel my face heating up as he observed me. “What?” I asked “Do I have something on my face?” I brought a hand to my cheek and wiped for good measure. He shook his head. “No. I’ve just never seen you with your hair tied back. It suits you” It was Roxas’ turn to blush now. “O-oh… Thanks” I said, flustered. Roxas buried his face in his hands and shook his head. “Sorry” he spoke, voice muffled by his hands. “I’m making you feel awkward aren’t I” It was more of a statement than a question. “No. Roxas its ok” I laughed as I rubbed the back of my neck. “Everyone likes compliments… Though you apologising just takes away from that compliment” I smirked, putting my arm on the back of the couch. “Sorr-” He began, but I stopped him by placing my hand over his mouth before he could apologise again. “Stop saying you’re sorry, Roxas. It’s going to start losing it meaning if you carry on” I grinned. He nodded slowly against my hand, his red cheeks burning against my fingers. His cerulean orbs darted back and forth as he looked into my own eyes. Hesitantly I removed my hands from his face. I looked down to his mouth to see his tongue dart out as he licked his lips. My heart rate suddenly became faster and the room was getting a little too hot. I backed away slowly from Roxas, to not arouse suspicion from him. “So… err… how was work?” I asked in hopes that it would ease the sudden tension between the two of us. Roxas looked down “It was ok… a little slow…” He said lowly, voice cracking a little. Shit, things were awkward now. I let out a loud sigh, startling the blue eyed man next to me. “Aah! Well at least you’ve had an easy day. I’ve been putting off my main goal all day. Kinda don’t want to get around to it” “What do you mean?” He asked brushing a stray piece of hair from his face. “I’ve gotta pack the rest of Larxene’s stuff. No doubt she’s gonna want it all back eventually” I answered as I rubbed my forehead with my fingertips. “I can help… if y-you want me to?” He added. I smiled at him appreciatively. “Thanks, it’d help a lot” “No problem” He grinned back at me. --- Once Roxas and I had finished eating our takeaway we decided it was best to start packing Larxene’s junk. I was currently sat cross legged on my bed as Roxas was on the floor passing me items of clothing, the odd bottle of perfume and make-up cases. I tried my best to stay apathetic to the whole situation, but it was very hard. The smell of her clothes and perfume just brought back so many memories, unfortunately more of them bad than good. Roxas stood up as he sorted through my wardrobe for the rest of her clothes. He picked out a red cocktail dress and held it out in front of him. It was a dark red satin material with a black ribbon tied into a bow around the waist. “You have to hand it to her, she had taste in clothes” Roxas spoke as he gave the dress another once over. He handed it to me as he went back into the wardrobe. “She should, I bought most of the things here for her. This dress was for our 3 year anniversary. I wanted to take her out for a nice quiet meal, to really wine and dine her, yanno?” I folded the dress neatly and placed it into one of the suitcases in front of me. “She looked gorgeous” “Hmm I bet” Muttered Roxas, sounding a bit distracted. “Ohmygod” “What?” I asked leaning over on the bed a little. “Oh. My. God” He gasped “What? What is it?” I stood up and walked over to the closet. Roxas looked at me with a shit eating grin plastered on his face. I raised an eyebrow in confusion and tried to look behind him to see what he was hiding. “I never had you down as the kinky type, Axel” Roxas purred as he brought the item from behind his back. My face burned a dark red. Roxas grin only grew wider as he held the whip he had found in the closet out front of him, running the thong between his fingers “Where did you find that?” I questioned embarrassedly as I tried snatching the offending item from him, only for him to move his hands away. “Nuh-uh… you’re not getting out of this that easily” Roxas laughed as he raised a questioning eyebrow at me. “We used it once, it was her idea and frankly it was a terrible one” I told him, trying to snatch it again but once again it was futile. “Not familiar with the ways of BDSM?” He giggled cracking the whip, startling me. “And you are?!” I cried, a little shocked at my little blond friend. “No not really” He laughed handing me the whip. “But you really hated using it that much?” He asked crossing his arms. I looked at him, still a little red faced and then I looked back at the whip in my hands. Throwing it in a suitcase I decided Larxene could have it back. “I don’t know. It felt sordid. I’m more… sensitive when it comes to… err. Love… making” I mumbled, rubbing the back of my head, suddenly a lot more embarrassed than before. Roxas face seemed to darken significantly too. Roxas nodded quickly and turned back to the wardrobe as he looked through the remaining clothes hanging in there. I let out a sigh and made my way back over to the bed. I fastened up a case and placed it on the floor by the door. As I was making my way back to the wardrobe for more stuff, I noticed a small box in between the bed and the bedside table. I had completely forgotten I’d put that there. Reaching down I brought the box to me and sat back on the bed with the box on my lap. I closed my eyes for a moment before I opened it. Inside where a few items I had collected when I found out that Larxene was pregnant. One of the items was a white baby grow for a new born with the print on the front saying ‘my Mommy and Daddy love me.’ My heart felt like a vice was tightening around it. The realisation hit me that there was a high chance that I’d never be able to give this to the child when it was born. I felt a hand touch my arm, glancing beside me I saw Roxas. “I never told her I bought these. It was supposed to be a surprise” I spoke quietly. Roxas sat beside me, making the bed dip slightly. He didn’t say anything. I was thankful that he didn’t. “I hate her for what she’s done. I hate her for lying. I just. I hate her” I said as I looked pleadingly to Roxas. Sighing I placed the small item of clothing back into the box and placed the lid back on top. “I should probably give these to her too. She’ll probably just throw them away but it’s better than them staying here and gathering dust when they’ll never be used” I placed the box beside me and brought my hands to my face, rubbing my eyes. “Everything is going to be ok, Axel” Roxas spoke up, breaking the silence in the room. I smiled at him and ruffled his hair. He closed his eyes and blushed. “Thanks” I said to him, somewhat endeared by the way such a simple touch affected him. Roxas suddenly stood from the bed and stretched, his shirt riding up slightly to reveal his smooth, tanned stomach. Placing his hands on his hips he looked around my room. It was considerably bare now that Larxene’s belongings had all been packed away. “I didn’t realise how much stuff she had until now…” I spoke scratching the back of my head. “Does it feel empty?” He asked me with a solemn expression. I shook my head. “No. She was hardly ever here to begin with. It feels… clean. I don’t know, like I’m starting fresh. This is good.” I smiled a little at him. “Listen, thanks for all the help, I appreciate it” I thanked him, placing a hand on his shoulder, squeezing lightly. “No problem” He grinned back. “Aah, I should get going, it’s late” He explained. “I’ll see you soon yeah? Just come visit or I don’t know… Just don’t be a stranger, ok?” “Uhm, why don’t I give you my number? I’m little late in giving you it anyways that way you can call whenever… ” I rubbed the back of my neck. “Okay” he smiled “I’d like that” We exchanged numbers and with that Roxas left. And I was left alone in the apartment once more. But I knew that with friends like Demyx and Roxas, I’d be ok. At least, I hoped I would be.
