Disclaimer: I do not own any Characters from Legend of Zelda, I make no money off this story, and only borrow the Wolfos species to entertain my boring self. |
"Xenri, please understand I never wanted to beat you. You are my most trusted servant, and my protector. Please forgive me." The Gerudo King whispers to me, his voice soft as silk as he leans down and gently runs his hand over my ruff. With tears in my Wolfos eyes, I look up at him, a pleading look in my eyes as my tongue darts out to lick across his hand, the one gesture I can make and have him understand. With a fire in his eyes I haven't seen before, Ganondorf smiles at me.
"I love you, Xenri. I always will. You're always there for me, and always have been." The Desert Man's words are like a blade across my throat, ceasing my breath in an instant. My entire body feels as though it's suddenly on fire as I wonder if he means what he just said. Panic overtakes me; I'm his servant.
"Ganondorf, this is wrong, you have to take it back, I'm not a Gerudo anymore, I'm a monster!" I try to insist, but all that comes out of my jaws is a series of barking snarls. I must have scared him, because Ganondorf, my King, backs away as though he's been burned, and only then so I see the small bleeding mark on his arm; great, I accidentally bit him.
I feel a sudden blow to my head before I hear the crack of my jaw, and I know he hit me. When I can see again without stars in my vision, I notice the desert King has tears in his own eyes.
"I told you I love you, you stupid dog. I'm just sorry I didn't say it when you were a human. Now you've bitten me. I guess that means you don't feel the same way. So be it." He snarls, his voice taking on a malicious tone, as I watch helplessly, his body twists and bends into the demon boar once again, and with a fearsome roar, he's gone.
Remembering that moment, I tilt my head back and mournfully cry to the skies. I never knew he loved me until that moment, and I thought all chances of being with him were gone the instant I bit him. I'm just glad for once I was wrong. Wolfos, as I learned in the following months, were a previously non-existent species. There were wolves, and a pre-form of Wolfos, caused by darkness covering the land as it has in eons past. In those times, the Hero of Time, a chosen being of the Goddesses, would change form into a Wolf-like being with the power of Courage guiding him. Of course each time, the Darkness would be repelled. I was studied by Nabooru, the sage of Gerudo Valley. She was the one who tested me in battle, to keep me sharp so I could defend Ganondorf with my life. She found a diet that would keep me in peak fighting condition, and supplied me with the meat from various animals to help me gain muscle. Of course, as a female, I also found I was prone to having fertile cycles where my scent would attract every male monster in the entire desert, which led Ganondorf to lock me in the dungeon during those times to avoid having his guards slaughtered by hormonal males. He never let on how much I was affecting him as well.
"Nabooru, please, take the Wolfos away. She's beginning to reek of her fertile scent. I've had three Moblin attacks in the last two days, and it's driving my guards insane." Ganondorf's voice echoes outside my cell in the dungeon, I'm awoken once again by the sound of fighting, and the loud, thunderous neigh of the black Gerudo Stallion. Unlike people, I can both understand animals and be understood by them, so the stallion and I have gotten to be on good terms once he realized I wasn't interested in eating him.
"Come on ladies! Is that all you've got? I'm a WAR HORSE here! I can kick Moblins into next year!" Even now, his taunting battle cries reach my ears and put a smile on my face. I'm only sorry I put everybody through this because of what I am.
"Ganondorf, I'm going to take Xenri with me, to the lost woods. Maybe some time alone will calm her down." Nabooru comments, I hear the clinking of chains and I know she's about to enter my cell to put a collar around my neck. I see a tan horse waiting and I know I'm going to be taken away.
"Xenri, I'm taking you to the lost woods until this is over, please don't be mad at me, but Ganondorf can't focus with you attracting so many creatures." Nabooru comments, her voice softer and sincerely apologetic. I allow her to lead me away without a fight.
