==LAP 5==
Chiya had been sitting on the metal floor for about twenty minutes. Earl had taken Seppuku through a door for medical treatment, she was instructed to stay put. She was biting on her finger nervously as she contemplated what would happen next; such as the possibility of Michael Chain suddenly busting into the room. Chiya had shot Chain in the upper chest, yet he came out of this practically unharmed; Seppuku on the other hand had fallen after taking a single bullet wound.
Chiya stood up and scratched her eyebrow nervously, she finally decided that she would explore the room she was in. The room she was in was large and dark with the appearance of a lobby. There appeared to be a set of display cases across from her. Chiya walked towards the display cases slowly; a lone dim light shining over the cases. One of the objects on display was a bronze Grand Prix trophy, however it appeared to had been thrown into the case with little care, as it was lying on its side collecting dust. In the second display case, a set of medals lay neatly in rows. The medals appeared to be relevant to some kind of fighting force. Neither of the medals contained any lettering that would hint out where these were obtained, it could have been anywhere from the military to police for all she knew. The last display case launched Chiya back into a feeling of great shock. Blood Falcon’s helmet stood in the third display case. The blue helmet appeared dusty. What struck Chiya as even more of a surprise was that the visor of the helmet was nearly completely shattered and would never be able to protect the eyes of the wearer. Seppuku can’t be Blood Falcon though, they were facing each other on the track… Chiya thought to herself. She dropped her hands onto the glass and tried to lift the top off with the desire to physically hold the helmet.
“Old fool always gets himself into these messes,” said Earl as he silently approached Chiya from behind. A startled Chiya swatted her hands away from the glass and spun around. Earl was now wearing the brown leather jacket he had been wearing the evening she met him. He had a slight amount of blood visible on his waist. “He gets a thrill out of challenging people. Michael Chain holds enough a grudge against us as it is, challenging Chain is just plainly an idiotic idea.”
Chiya put her hands together with a scared look, “So did he survive?”
Earl closed his eyes and exhaled, “Well admittedly, this isn’t the first time this has happened, but somehow he keeps cheating Death,” he concluded with a chuckle.
Chiya bit on her finger with a feeling of guilt, “I should’ve brought him to a hospital. I don’t know what I was th-”
“No!” Earl yelled with widened eyes.
Chiya was immediately silenced, as if Earl had just demanded that she shut up. Earl glanced away from her while holding his head down in embarrassment.
“I- I mean, you did the right thing bringing him here, the hospital would have been bad for him. No hospital.”
Chiya raised a suspicious eyebrow at him. She had a clear understanding that she wasn’t being told the full truth; regardless, she nodded and turned towards the display cases again. She was examining the medals again, wondering if these actually belonged to Seppuku. She now had to wonder if these belonged to Earl. Chiya glanced back at Earl momentarily, she was now anxious to learn where she was and what Earl’s role in all of this was.
“Earl, where are we right now?” she asked in a demanding tone.
Earl crossed his arms and was hesitating to respond. He began to hum while thinking of a response he could provide her with, ultimately he shrugged, “I’m afraid I can’t tell you that right now.”
Chiya narrowed her eyes suspiciously, feeling as though she were being challenged, “Who are you?” she solidly demanded.
Earl exhaled after breathing in, once again hesitating to answer. Chiya was clearly becoming frustrated with his lack of information, “That, I also cannot tell you.”
Chiya formed an angry expression and swatted her hands against her waist, “Alright I want to get out of here, now!”
Earl grunted but didn‘t speak, he showed a look of discontent towards her demand. Chiya found that everything she said required some lengthy thought before Earl could respond. Earl sighed and kicked his foot down a few times.
“I can lead you out of here, but I implore that you stay until Seppuku regains consciousness. This was an order given to me with what breath he had left”
Order..? Chiya thought feeling even more confused.
“Of course, we can’t imprison you here like some animal. If you want to leave, I’ll drive you back to the bar, but please, it would look best for both of us if you respected his wish and stayed a bit longer.”
Chiya closed her eyes in frustration and nodded after softly growling, “Very well. Do you have any food then?”
It was uncommon for Chiya to eat, as she never had money to purchase food. She survived merely on leftovers and scraps--a major reasoning for her thin body.
Earl finally revealed some emotion by smiling, “Well of course! We don’t serve alcohol here however.”
Chiya shook her hand negatively, “I don’t like the taste of alcohol. I hate it.”
“Good, maybe if Seppuku had that kind of thought on the matter he wouldn’t be getting shot all the damn time,” Chiya didn’t respond to this, but she was clearly still thirsty for answers. Unfortunately Earl did not appear to be an open book, “I’ll go get you a snack. Please stay here,” he requested as he began walking away.
@Many minutes had gone by and Chiya had returned to wandering around the empty room. The room was huge, but seemed to serve no importance, it truly was a lobby. There were three doors in the room, one being the entrance while the other two remained a mystery to her. As time went by, Chiya began doing stranger things to kill time such as focusing on the portraits closely. She was trying to see what kind of paint was used to make the works of art. Blimey, how does it honestly take 10 minutes to get a snack..?
Earl moments later returned with a bag of chips. Chiya had guessed spot on, Earl was gone for about ten minutes. He threw the small bag into Chiya’s hands, she looked down at the small bag in disappointment.
“It took ten minutes to get me a bag of chips?” she asked with a look of discontent.
“Seppuku woke up. As it turns out, one of the bullets grazed a part of his collarbone, and as you may imagine--he’s feeling like Hell.”
“May I speak with him?” she asked desperately wanting to leave the dull room.
Earl looked down at the ground while rubbing his head, “Not quite. He did however insist that you spend the night here. A bedroom and all other needed areas will be available to you of course.”
Chiya rubbed her head nervously at the proposal, she closed her eyes and groaned softly, “I don’t know, that would be so uncomfortable. I don’t have any idea what’s going on here…” she slightly opened one eye hoping for an answer.
Earl nodded, his face easily showed the desire to provide her with answers, but he couldn’t, “I can imagine you‘re feeling uncomfortable being left in the dark. But what you need to realize is that we mean you no harm, you did save him after all, perhaps he has something to give you--and trust me, becoming friends with an F-Zero racer will have their perks in the end.”
Chiya thought about the proposal some more, beginning to think about the benefits of doing this. If she were to leave this place alone, she would be taking on the risk of being attacked by Michael Chain again. Considering Seppuku was an F-Zero racer, he likely was a very wealthy man, meaning she could get rewarded with a lump sum. The other thing she knew, was that Seppuku was not going to mug her or anything, and Earl seemed friendly enough to trust. But lastly, Chiya knew if she had a dream to become an F-Zero racer, getting help from an F-Zero racer would give her the boost she desperately needed.
Chiya pressed her lips together and nodded slightly, “I guess I could spend one night away from that trashy warehouse…”
Earl nodded with a grin, having once again persuaded her, “I’m glad that you‘re looking at this more positively.” He began walking towards the other door in the lobby, “Follow me and I will show you to your room,” Earl said with his hand held out invitingly.
Chiya did not express any happiness at this, she was still staying vigilant. She would finally get to leave the lobby however, which was enough motivation for her. Chiya entered a hallway with several more doors all across from each other. The hallway had many more lights compared to the lobby, thus livening it up much more. Earl stopped next to one of the doors and opened it slowly for her.
“You can stay here for tonight. If you need to use the restroom, kitchen, or other services, you just check through the doors in this hallway. Only roam through this hallway or the lobby, nowhere else,” he instructed firmly.
“Yeah, well, I had enough of the lobby…” Chiya muttered with a quick chuckle.
Earl grinned then walked back out the door saying nothing else. Chiya continued to stare at the door, momentarily turning around to see her bedroom. The bedroom was nothing very special, but contained a basic bed and bookshelf. Despite how dull this room was, it was still much better than her usual resting place. The first thing Chiya did was drop onto the bed. She was immediately amazed at how much more comfortable this was compared to the mattress she usually slept on. She was staring at the ceiling trying to listen for any sound in the area, but the room was completely silent. The utter silence was almost frightening.
After about five minutes of lying around doing nothing, she finally turned her head towards the bookshelf. All of the books looked very bland, but one stuck out more than the others, this book being coated with a red trim. She grabbed the book and brought it up to her face, it was a book about F-Zero machine maneuvering. Chiya was not very surprised that an F-Zero racer had a book about this, however she found it suspicious that he had it in a room intended for guests. She didn’t feel like reading, however she needed to kill time, so she opened the first page and began to read the index. While it seemed like she was gone for a long time, she had only just left for the bar about two and a half hours ago, so she had a while to go before the day would come to an end. Chiya turned the page and officially began reading. Chiya was someone who was obsessed with F-Zero, so this wasn‘t necessarily boring to her either. Not long into reading Chiya realized just how helpful the book actually was; therefore she took extra time to study the contents of the book. She was legitimately intrigued by the knowledge the book had to offer her.
Chiya later woke up in shock, she was initially by the lack of ambient noise in the area. She lifted herself up still with a shocked feeling, realizing that she was not in the same place she usually woke up in. Despite having a better bed she still fell asleep on it incorrectly, resulting in an uncomfortable feeling in her back. Chiya found that the book she had been reading was on her lap. It was beyond her as to when she had fallen asleep. Chiya stood up and stretched, wanting to find out what time it was. She left the bedroom to find a clock, assuming that there would be one in the kitchen, but first she would need to find out where it is. She opened a random door in the hallway and looked inside, it was a clean room with some counters and storage units, she had somehow found the kitchen right off the bat. Chiya spotted a clock that was above the stove, it was a little past midnight.
Chiya shrugged, “I guess I’ll just go back to bed then,” she muttered aloud silently.
As she opened the door again, a man without a shirt stood in front of her. She gasped and launched herself back before studying the figure more closely.
“Seppuku!” Chiya greeted loudly.
Seppuku was not wearing his signature coat or fedora. He was still wearing his visor and scarf. His visor was not like Captain Falcon’s, rather it was like a mask. A brightly red scar was visible above his chest, other scars were visible around his body as well. Earl was right, this same thing happened to him before.
“Good, you’re awake,” he said in a faint voice.
Chiya was staring at him with a serious yet surprised expression, she nodded at him and quirked her mouth..
Later on Chiya and Seppuku were inside of an office. Seppuku was now more clothed, wearing his long coat, but still no fedora. Seppuku sat behind a desk with his arms behind his back.“Let me tell you why I was so insistent that you stay here tonight, Ms. -”
“Chiya, Chiya Flower,” she answered with a smile. This was the first time she could get her name across to him with his full attention.
Seppuku nodded, “I knew you were someone of importance the night I found you being held captive, you have a talent only one of ten people possess.”
Chiya raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the immediate compliment she was given by such a person, yet she was remaining vigilant, “You know how to pilot an F-Zero machine without even studying.”
Chiya shook her head negatively, not wanting to mislead him, “That isn’t true, I’ve studied F-Zero all my life.”
Seppuku tilted his head with a look of doubt, “But you didn’t attend any universities or classes. You just watched races, correct?”
Chiya nodded affirmatively, she was only a big F-Zero fan--nothing else. What is he getting at..? she asked herself.
“You didn’t pilot very well, but you managed to fend off against a professional F-Zero racer, which leads me to believe that you might prove to be somewhat of use to me,” Seppuku put his hands together with a devious look.
“Useful how? What is this place? Why is Earl here?” she finally burst out.
“In due time. The secret here is that I’m not just an F-Zero racer, I’m also the boss of this small vigilante group,” Seppuku explained with a grin.
Chiya felt a chill go through her back. Everything had suddenly become abundantly clear to her. She looked around the room and found several different guns hung up on the wall. Seppuku was the vigilante boss, Earl was his employee.
“Who are you working for then?” she asked suspiciously.
“I self-serve.”
“Then where’s the income?”
“Both in racing and looting the possessions of unlawful scum…” he responded while clenching his fist.
Chiya nodded, but had little interest in getting involved with him, “What is it you want from me then?” she asked curiously, still interested in learning why he would want someone like her.
“Me and Earl are the only ones in this group, and he’s just the caretaker of the base, Red Dove, and medical duties, leaving me the only one capable of actually getting work done.”
Chiya was still listening, despite her disinterest in joining. Even though she had no intentions of helping him, she was still getting some much wanted information from him.
“We could outfit you with your own F-Zero machine eventually, and you could begin making serious money by doing odd jobs for me, as it would appear that you for the most part are unemployed,” he said looking at Chiya with a grin. Chiya had a pressured expression on her face and was trying to come up with a response. “Judging by your body, that bag of chips must’ve been the most expensive thing you’ve ever eaten,” he said persuasively.
Chiya lowered her eyebrows in offense by the comment on her body, but was now interested in the thought of owning an F-Zero machine. The F-Zero machine was now the only thing putting pressure on Chiya’s decision to join, and to a lesser extent--the food.
“The only downside you may see in doing this, is that you will have to get your hands a bit more dirty, and possibly kill if necessary.”
Chiya grunted at the part about killing, but felt that she was being pulled in by the F-Zero machine. Chiya hummed in frustration, fighting the urge to accept the offer. Kill people? Would I really do this, just for an F-Zero machine..? Moments into thinking she came up with an idea, “I’ll accept your proposal--but…” she hesitated to finish her sentence, observing Seppuku to see if he would be bothered by a counter-offer.
Seppuku was flexing his fingers as he stared at her. He almost seemed desperate for her to join for reasons unknown.
“When I get my F-Zero machine, I want to begin training to participate in the Grand Prix,” she proposed with a smile.
Seppuku smashed his fist against his desk angrily, “Don’t be an idiot, girl! Racing isn’t just knowing your basic turns and handling. Racing is death waiting to happen. If you die while racing, no one is held accountable, that’s how F-Zero works today!” he said loudly trying to turn her against doing this.
Chiya was grinning, she could now confirm that Seppuku was indeed desperate for her assistance, which means she could propose a few more counter-offers.
“In addition to this, I also want to know everything that goes on here--all of this classified information is making me crazy!” Chiya said with a raised tone.
Seppuku was clearly not pleased with the counter-offer she made. He sighed at her and quirked his mouth, “As a final offer, I’ll accept all of your counter-proposals--but I want you to understand, if we fail to get your machine equipped with efficient parts before the next Grand Prix--you will not participate.”
Chiya rubbed her chin for a bit as she thought, wondering if he would intentionally hold up progress on the parts in order to make her miss the Grand Prix. Seppuku had the look of a gambler, and Chiya had to decide whether to trust his hand or not. She narrowed her eyes at him and hummed.
“-and I don’t have to live in that abandoned warehouse anymore, if I accept?”
Seppuku nodded affirmatively to this, intending to give Chiya the bedroom permanently. Chiya nodded approvingly at him, “Very well then. I accept.” she said reaching out for Seppuku’s hand.
The two shook hands in agreement, “Welcome, Chiya Flower. I’ll have Earl show you around the HQ tomorrow with full access, but first go get some sleep; you look exhausted.”
Chiya stood up straight, grinning before saluting him, “Yes sir.”
