**Installment 5**
Goryn and his small honor guard ran into the fray, frantically looking for Caellia. Goryn wasted no time cutting down any enemy that crossed his path. “Find her! Find her and protect her!” He spotted Nalia and ran to her; she was just finishing her fight with a blade dancer. “Where is Caellia?” He shouted above the din of battle.
“I don’t know, she took off towards the back of the caravan.” Nalia responded, wheezing for breath. “She wouldn’t stay out of the fight Goryn.”
“Headstrong as always then, she never listens where it concerns her own well being.” Looking toward the back of the group of battling people he took off to find Caellia.

Nathavin whipped his head around to see the direction the new threat was coming from. Caellia took the opportunity and grabbed Einao’s hand and sprinted away. She had to get away from Nathavin. She supposed she could’ve shot Nathavin since his back was turned but that wouldn’t have worked very well. His armor would’ve prevented him from sustaining much injury even though it would’ve been point-blank range. Half dragging Einao, she raced back toward Nalia. Einao’s treachery would have to be dealt with later, until then she intended on getting his co-operation any way she could. Even if that meant she had to drag him around with her to make sure he didn’t betray them again. She grit her teeth as he stumbled and whirled around to face him, fury and hurt blazing in her eyes. “Get up!” She didn’t wait for an answer, she just turned around and started running again.
Nathavin turned back to Einao and the ranger just as they began running. Glaring at their backs he vowed to catch up to them later. Right now, Goryn was the one he needed to deal with. He began to make his way toward the new arrival, knocking an arrow in preparation for battle.

Goryn saw the dark elven archer and came to a stop. He instinctively knew who it was. He spun his polearm aggressively in a defiant challenge. “Where is Caellia?”
Nathavin looked at him with his eyebrow raised. So Caellia was here after all. He should have known not to trust that fool Einao. The question was, where was she? His eyes widened slightly, or was the question who was she? “I haven’t seen her.”
“Do not lie to me, Nathavin!” Spat Goryn. “Where is she?”
“I do not lie fool.” Nathavin narrowed his eyes at Goryn, he quickly motioned with his arm for a few of the nearby orcs and dark elves to stand with him. He watched as one of those was a healer, an elder in the studies of Shillien, he would be able to cast a spell to bind Goryn in place.
Goryn once more spun his polearm, before bellowing. “Once more I will ask the question. Where is Caellia?”
“Do you believe I would still be here if I knew where she was?”
Goryn had enough, he charged Nathavin. He ran only a few yards before he found he could run no more. He gave a mighty battle cry as he watched Nathavin raise his bow, a bright white flash twinkled around the arrow as Nathavin placed a white stone from a special sack on his hip on the arrow to increase its deadliness.
Grinning maliciously, Nathavin took aim and fired. The arrow struck Goryn in the center of his chest, despite his attempt to block it with the polearm. With a nod from Nathavin, the magic caster again cast his spell, keeping Goryn in place as Nathavin continued to fire.
By this time, most of the Elven forces had been subdued, save for a few struggles here and there. Caellia and Einao had reached Nalia who was looking around at their battered companions. She saw and ran over to Caellia and Einao. Before they could say anything, they heard Goryn’s battle cry and they raced to find him.
The scene they found horrified them. Goryn was bound to one spot with nearly a dozen arrows in his chest. Caellia looked where the arrows were coming from and gasped. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she watched yet another arrow hit Goryn in the chest. Ignoring Nalia’s warnings and pleadings not to, she ran to stand between Goryn and Nathavin.
“Stop! You’ll kill him!” She put her hands in front of her, palms up in a non threatening pose.
“That’s the idea girl. Now move, or the next arrow will be for you.” Nathavin was deadly serious.
“Please stop!” She cried.
Goryn watched through half closed eyes as Caellia stood between him and death. “Caellia,” he whispered, “don’t get in the way.”
She turned back to him astounded, “He’s going to kill you!”
“Better he kill me than you. You are the only surviving child of Lord Erenor and Lady Serath. Your people need you.” He swayed slightly on his feet, the blood loss and the arrows taking their toll on his body, but the spell would not allow him to fall just yet.
“Your people need you too Goryn.” Caellia choked back a sob, “You can’t die here! Not by him!”
“Enough!” Nathavin hollered. He hoisted the bow again as Caellia turned back around. “Silver ranger, I suggest you move, or bring your own weapon up.”
Caellia watched him for a split second and then did the only thing she could think of to save Goryn. “I am the one you seek. I am Princess Caellia of the Elven Lands.” She ignored Goryn’s heart wrenching cry as she revealed her identity. She couldn’t allow him to be killed, not over her. She stood tall as she watched the expressions pass over Nathavin’s face.
Nathavin just looked at her. He couldn’t believe all this time he had been looking for a pampered Princess who was probably only a mediocre healer at best, when Caellia had actually been a seasoned warrior. He lowered his weapon before giving a full throated laugh. “So, you are the one I’ve been searching for. And to think, I was in the same room with you in Giran. You are quite brave, if a good deal foolish, my little silver ranger.” He arrogantly strode toward her, silencing the caravan onlookers with a mere look as they protested. He stopped an arm’s length from her and studied her for a moment before backing a few paces away and stating coldly. “Place your weapon on the ground before me and bow to your King.”
The dark elves and orcs nodded their approval as the defeated humans and light elves stood in shock.
Caellia’s eyes narrowed in anger. She would not bow before him, never would she bow to him! She icily refuted him, “I will not bow to you now or ever!”
His own eyes hardened as he stared her down. “You will bow to me Caellia, or I will force you to.” He brought his bow up to firing level and took aim at her knees. “Lay your weapon down and surrender.”
Einao slowly walked towards Caellia, watching Nathavin closely for any sign of attack. “Caellia, drop the weapon and do as he asks for now.” He intoned softly as he came up behind her.
“I can’t do that Einao. I cannot bow to him, that goes against everything I have ever been taught!”
“Caellia, please listen to me…” Anything else he might have said was cut off by her angry voice.
“Listen to you?! You betrayed us! We always thought there was something strange in the way you progressed so quickly, but never had we dared believe you would do something such as this. You betrayed us Einao! Most of all, you betrayed me, you were my closest friend!” Caellia sobbed. She brought herself under control then said in a coldly calm voice, “But I will do my duty as I have been taught. You, Einao, Sword Singer for the Elven Lands, in Service of the Elven Lands, are hereby banished from your ancestral homelands. You may never return, you are condemned to roam the realm of Aden for the rest of your days. Should you be found in Elven Lands or Elven territories, you will be killed on sight. Your name shall be stricken from all records and historical documents and your title stripped from you. You are no longer my cousin, in blood, or in arms.” She finished sadly.
Einao was stunned into stillness. He knew he deserved no less than this, but it was still hard to accept that she had done it. His heart hardened and his resolve firmed for what he was about to do. He had been going to try to make this easier for her until she banished him, now he no longer cared. He came around behind her and pulled her up to him as his sword came up to her throat. “I would’ve been nicer about this, but you ruined it when you banished me.” He snarled at her. “I didn’t want to hurt you, never did I want to hurt you. Now, be a good girl and drop the bow.”
Caellia reluctantly dropped her bow to the ground, she had lost this battle, and it was leaving a very bitter taste in her mouth.
“Now, on your knees.” Einao roughly pushed her forward and down, watching in anger as she fell forward and caught herself on her hands.
“Very good Einao.” Nathavin muttered. “Your debt has been repaid.” An arrow found its way to Einao’s shoulder. “Don’t ever attempt to betray us or you will pay for your treachery with your life!”
Einao grasped his impaled shoulder and glared sullenly at Nathavin. “You have my allegiance.”
“Good.” Nathavin walked over to Caellia’s bow and picked it up. After inspecting it for a minute he took a small dagger from a concealed sheath and savagely cut the bowstring, rendering the weapon useless. “Stand up Caellia.” She slowly stood up and looked at Nathavin bitterly. “You will now accept me as your King or Goryn dies here.” He was certain he had found the chink in her armor. She cared for Goryn, she would not do anything to cause him harm. He folded his arms across his chest and waited for her answer.
Caellia looked over at Goryn, who had passed out from the pain and slowly looked back at Nathavin before whispering in defeat. “I accept you as my King.” But as Nathavin and his men celebrated, she silently vowed she would not suffer this indignity for long. Oh no, she meant to escape and she would kill Nathavin one way or another.
