Summary: Against all odds, Zelda turns out to be quite nervous for the coronation. But the reward she receives for it later that day, is something she never would have guessed.
Chapter 5: Why Aren’t You Naked?
“On your knees, Queen Zelda. Show me your ass.”
Zelda let her nipples graze against the thick, fluffy pillow before lowering her chest and perching up her bottom. She let her head rest on the pillow, gasping when she felt his hands cupping and squeezing her butt cheeks.
“Such a fine ass,” he growled behind her. Her heartbeat sped up when she felt his hot breath on the small of her back. Hard, ardent kisses were placed on her skin there, and then lower on the plump flesh of her butt cheeks. Then she felt the squeezing hands pulling them apart, and she moaned load when she felt his slippery, quivering tongue slithering between her crevice.
“Link!” she cried out. She wriggled her butt when it slid down, to her perineum, teasing there for a bit, before it went lower, lapping and prying at the place where she liked it the most. She moaned while he drank from her juice, pressing her pussy back onto his mouth. “Oh, that’s nice,” she panted. Then his tongue slid up again, all the way to her tail bone, going up and down a few times. “Goodness, that feels so good!” Then it was gone again.
“Open your legs more,” he ordered.
She did so. One of the hands lifted from her backside. Not even a second later, she felt it reaching down between her legs, feeling up her wet pussy. “Hm… Yes, touch me there,” she murmured. Her breath quickened when the fingers found her swollen nub, teasing it further to attention. The other hand reached around, replacing the rubbing fingers from the first hand when they started to move down. They slid along the sides of her entrance, spreading the juice and gently prying the folds apart. “Yes… Go on...” she moaned, gently rocking her hips. Three fingers at once plunged into her, and she jerked back against them. Moving in and out, they twisted and hooked to tickle at her inner pleasure spot. The stimulation along with the fingers rubbing on her sensitive outer button drove her mad. “Ahn… More… Faster,” she mewled. By Hylia, he was good! Such a giver.
“Your so wet,” his husky voice said behind her. “It’s dripping out.”
“I know,” she panted, eagerly riding his fingers. “It feels so hot. You make me so hot!” She felt the rush coming on disgracefully fast. Grasping at the sheet, she moaned loud when a delightful fire hit her loins. The familiar waves of pleasure took over, and she welcomed them with bucking hips and happy screams.
Only hardly recovered, she already felt his hot, fleshy rod pressed up against her butt crack, still moist from when he had licked her there before. He made it slide up and down, moving as if they were already doing it. She squealed when he tangled his fingers into her hair, pressing her head down onto the pillow. “You may have become Queen, but something tells me that, in bed, it’s me who will be wielding the sceptre,” he grunted.
Zelda felt her passage tightening. The unexpected thrill of having him go so rough on her made her feel excited in a very different way than before. “You can wield your sceptre anytime.”
“I want to take you hard.”
“Then do it. You know I’m always hot for you.” Without further ado, he plunged into her. “Uhn! Oh… Oh yeah!”
He started a fierce, maddening rhythm, Zelda could hear his hips slapping against her ass. His grunts quickly grew in volume. The hand on her head moved to the mattress, tensing up and grabbing at the fabric there.
“Ahn… Link! This is amazing!” she cried out, thrusting back to meet his erratic hips. “Come inside me… Now!”
“Hm… Oh! Oh, Zelda!”
...
“Zelda… Zelda. Zelda!”
“Yes?” Goodness, she had been zoning out there for a moment, while she was waving at the people.
“We’ve arrived.”
She gave a little self-conscious cough while she dragged her mind out of the gutter, back to the here and now. Then she gracefully accepted Link’s hand to help her out of the carriage that had taken them from the chapel back to the castle.
“Don’t tell me you were thinking about...”
Her flushed cheeks and quickened breathing must’ve given her away. “Shush. I’m sure you’ve been doing the same. It’s the only way to make it out of there relatively sane.”
Well, she was right about that. During the ceremony, he had seen the serious, formal side of her. But Link new what was hiding underneath, not only under those Royal clothes, but also under that Royal facade. Majestic as she was looking now, in between the sheets, she was anything but a Princess – a Queen, he quickly corrected himself. Once in the privacy of the bedroom, she changed from a dainty doll to a sex-crazed slut. And he loved it that way. What healthy young bloke in his right mind wouldn’t?
After all, there wasn’t really a gracious way to having hot and steamy sex.
From upon the balcony – with a balustrade that was still half in shambles – she looked over the people. Then up to Heaven, praying for the strength from her parents. Mother. Father, she thought to herself. I will endeavour… I will do my utmost best to honour your legacy. To be a worthy successor. One you can be proud of. A Queen you can be proud of calling your daughter.
Go on, she mentally encouraged herself. Only one more part she had to get through. After this, food and drinks.
On her left side, there were Riju and Buliara, Sidon, Teba and Yunobo. On her right side, Liselle, Cassian, Boy, and of course her darling Link. Terrako was also pattering around somewhere. She was meant to give a speech now. Once the crowd would stop cheering.
Eventually, it was Kass who got them to all quiet down, by bellowing a resonant “Sileeeence!” Strong voice, Zelda noticed. Maybe she should appoint him as her herald. From up above, she thankfully nodded at him, and then she took a deep breath. Now, the oath, earlier on, that had been easy. That was set, just something she had to recite. This speech, this had to come from the heart.
“People of Hyrule,” she started. “I will keep this short. Thank you all for coming. These last years, this Kingdom has known many hardships. But, thanks to these people alongside me, we have prevailed. Together...” Her voice wavered for a moment. A lot of children were sitting on top of their parents’ shoulders, to see better. Somewhere among them, Zelda thought that she could see… She strained her eyes. That little girl sitting on top of that man’s shoulders looked an awful lot like… No, it couldn’t be.
“Together, we shall make Hyrule thrive again. I’m looking forward to turning it once again into an opulent, plentiful land. But above all, I want every one living in it to be happy, content and free of sorrow. Most of you have not been around long enough to have lived under my father’s reign. He was strict, but just. It is my aim, and great honour, to follow in his footsteps. With all my heart, I’m looking forward to being your Queen. Now, eat, drink and be merry!”
Again, the crowd burst into joyous cheers. “Long live Queen Zelda! Long may she reign!” they shouted. She stayed on the balcony for a little while longer to accept and enjoy their happy outcries.
The moment she had turned her back to the people, and she was back in the security of the castle, she let the tears stream down her face. Looking for comfort, she turned to Liselle; to the others, Link was still ‘only’ her appointed knight. He’d understand.
“What’s wrong, dear,” Liselle said, grabbing both her hands, and she felt her new Queen squeezing them.
“I wish she could’ve seen this,” Zelda sobbed. “My mother. She would’ve been so proud.”
“She does see it, Zelda. I’m sure she does.”
Link couldn’t just stand aside. “Hm. And your father too,” he agreed.
Turning her teary face at him, she smiled. Link had no recollection of that dark day in their history, perhaps blissfully so, when Calamity Ganon stroke and her father was left behind. She didn’t wish to put that memory back into his head either. It was useless. He was her future now. “Can you all leave us, please?”
There were some questioning looks, but Liselle and Cassian quickly shooed them out.
“Hold me.”
He lovingly put his arms around her, and she reciprocated with such a force that his sword and shield clattered to the floor. She was shaking like a leaf.
“I love you,” she said with a tiny voice.
Link smiled, wiping tears from her fresh, rosy cheeks. He gently kissed her, and she thankfully hugged him even tighter. His nympho Queen, so fragile and small now. “I love you too. Now, let’s go get wasted.”
“Sounds good.” Sounded perfect, actually.
She had changed outfits first, something more comfortable, but still fit for a Queen. Not that it mattered much; it would be covered by her warm winter coat. Under normal circumstances, there would now be a banquet, instead of this sausage bun with relish and a pint of ale. A banquet that would be ridiculously expensive, with the aim to impress rather than to feed her guests. It was money she would prefer to spend on rebuilding everything. And also, this way, the kitchen staff would have some time off too. Yes, she would become that kind of Queen. And people would love her for it.
And the sausage bun tasted phenomenal.
She had to laugh at what Yunobo showed up with. A premium rock roast with all the trimmings. He wouldn’t go hungry any time soon.
“Look what I found,” he beamed, licking his lips.
“See Yunobo. I told you there’d be some Goron grub too,” Sidon said.
“Brother Link!” someone shouted. The next moment, Link had a kid hanging around his waist.
“Azu!” A woman called. “Azu, come back here, Link is working now.”
Zelda frowned, sipping from her ale. Azu… She was sure she’d heard that name before. Wait, wasn’t that…? Oh, it was! Zelda could hardly contain herself. Replying weakly to the woman’s apology, she looked in the direction to where she was dragging the protesting boy off to. There she was, her love rival. Ivee. Ivee was here! To cheer her little brother on, who would be in the play, of course. Ivee would witness how she, Zelda, was parading around with Link by her side.
From where she was standing, Ivee waved at Link and bowed her head at her, and with a meagre smile, Zelda made herself wave back. Link waved back too, a lot more enthusiastically. If she’d already have that ring around her finger, she’d possessively sneak her arm around him. Only two more days. Then no one could take him away from her any more. What was that kid calling him ‘brother’ Link for, anyway? Had Link already become so familiar with Ivee’s family?
“Don’t be sad, Azu,” Link called out to him. “I’ll be coming to see your play later on.” He gave him the thumbs up. “Do your best.” Just a small encouragement, but to the boy, it meant the world.
“Okay, brother Link!” Azu shouted back.
Zelda sighed dreamily. He was gonna be such a good dad.
After they’d finished their food, they went on to buy some stuff from the market stalls, stuff they didn’t need at all, but with which they wanted to support local entrepreneurs. Pinkango was also there, to paint portraits from people who were willing to pay for it. Link smiled. It actually made him nostalgic about when he was still on his quest to defeat Ganon. That ugly beast aside, he had been to some great places, had met some really peculiar, interesting people.
“Your Majesty,” Pikango said, upon seeing them. “How about a portrait? It’s on the house.”
“I insist that I would pay for it,” Zelda said.
“You’re very kind, your Majesty,” Pikango said with a humble head nod.
“You sure you wanna do that?” Link hissed.
“Sure, why not?”
“Oh, you’ll see.”
After she’d sat herself down, Pikango started with great artistic flair. Unable to see what was going on on the canvas, she wasn’t sure she was liking the facial expressions Link was making as he watched Pikango paint.
“Oh,” she said, when he was done and proudly handed it over to her. “It’s… abstract. Very nice, thank you, Pikango.” She paid, and when he’d returned to his easel, she quietly continued to Link, “That Azu kid would’ve done a better job.”
“Right?” Link chuckled.
“I’ll go take it to the castle,” Liselle said, taking the piece of art from her.
“Thank you. Careful, the paint is still wet.”
“Shall I ask someone to hang it next to the picture of the Champions, above the fireplace?”
“No, that’s quite alright.”
“Queen Zelda!” someone called.
Two young girls came running towards her, two little blond angels. One of them was holding flowers. It looked like they were two sisters. “We noticed that you are not wearing a crown.”
Zelda was about to explain that the crown would attract bad people, but before she got the chance, the other girl continued.
“But a Queen needs a crown. So we...”
“We made you this,” the first girl butted in, holding up the flowers. Only now, Zelda could see that it was indeed a crown, made of flowers. She could recognise winter bloomers that grew around the public gardens of Castle town. “Would you wear it, please?”
“Oh, it’s beautiful.” She kneeled. “Can you put it on my head?”
The second girl pouted most adorably. Too shy to complain to the Queen, she turned to her sister. “But we made it together.”
“Together then,” the first girl said. She waited until her sister had put her hands on the flower crown, and they both put it on Zelda’s head. “We now crown thee, Queen Zelda,” they said in unison.
“Thank you. I will be smelling so nice now.”
“Girls always smell nice,” the younger girl said. Zelda chuckled and placed a kiss on the girl’s cheek, then the other girl. Bursting with pride, they turned and ran back to find their parents.
Link put a hand on his hip while he beheld this touching scene. Seriously, dual personality, that girl.
“What?” she said, when she saw Link’s frowning face.
“Nothing.”
As the afternoon progressed, Zelda received more and more gifts from the people. Liselle carried them all for her, but in a bit, she’d be needing a cart. They’d already bought her a basket from one of the stalls, quite a large one. “Don’t,” she said, batting Cassian’s hand away when he offered to carry it for her. “I’m her lady-in-waiting, that’s what a lady-in-waiting does.”
“Just trying to help,” Cassian grumbled.
“I knew you were going to say that. But you have to be poised for battle in case a villain shows up.”
“Thought you were her governess.”
“Slash lady-in-waiting. Don’t you ever listen when I tell you something?”
“Then at least go take it to the castle.”
“But it’s almost time for the play. I want to see it.”
At this, Zelda turned her way. “Why do you want to see the play so badly? Is there someone in it you know?”
Liselle evasively pulled up her shoulders. “I… just love kids.”
“If you want, I can fly it to the castle. It will be much quicker,” Teba suggested.
“Indeed, that is a great idea. Thank you so much, Master Teba. I will hold your bow for you.”
“Are you Master Teba’s lady-in-waiting too now?” Cassian threw himself in between.
“Shush you.” She put the basket on the ground, so Teba would be able to grab it with his claws. Her eyes sparkled when he handed her his bow. When he flew off, she watched him with an admiring gaze. “Master Teba, be sure to be back in time for the play!” she called after him. Then she turned her attention to the bow, looking it up and down with an impressed exhale. There was no denying the blush on her cheeks.
“He’s a bird,” Cassian gruffly pointed out.
“I know that,” Liselle scoffed.
“What is so special about that play?” Zelda wondered. “Link?”
Link tried to be a picture of nonchalance. “I don’t know,” he shrugged. She narrowed her eyes, and he quickly headed for the nearest food stall. Candied nuts. Perfect. “How about some snacks for during the play?” While he was queuing, Liselle caught him fidgeting, rubbing sweaty hands against his tunic. Giggling, she made her way over to him.
“Getting cold feet, Master Link?”
Link drew in a breath. “About the…” He glanced over at Zelda, who was joining Riju and Buliara to go order hot spiced wine. “About the proposal, you mean?”
“Yes. You look a bit nervous.”
He swallowed, rubbing his hands again. “No, I’m not getting cold feet. I’m just not sure how she will take it if I propose to her now. Today. On the day of her coronation. Won’t it feel like I want to steal her thunder? Won’t she be upset?”
Liselle’s eyes widened. “Steal her thunder? Master Link, believe me, she is so eager to show off with you, not just as her knight, but as her life partner, that when or where or how you do it is of little importance. If anything, you will be adding to her thunder rather than stealing it. Especially now that she knows that her love rival is here too.”
Link scrunched up his nose. “Love rival?”
“You know. Ivee. From Hateno village.”
He was appalled. “There’s nothing between me and Ivee.”
“She thinks there is. Or no, rather, she thinks the possibility is there. So, once you have proposed to her… That possibility will be gone. And she will be relieved. Trust me, Master Link, she will be beside herself with joy.” She rubbed her hands together. “It’s cold, isn’t it? You think it might be freezing? Well, we will have hot spiced wine soon, to warm us up.” She filled the rest of their wait with pointless chatter like this. Although she was glad to see that Link really had become a lot more talkative lately. And in general, happy.
“Cassian, dear!” she called over her shoulder when it was their turn on the food stall. With her still holding on to the bow, they’d need an extra pair of hands to carry everything. When he’d arrived, she reached the bow out to him. “Can you hold this?”
“No, I have to be poised for battle in case a villain shows up.”
Liselle made a face. “It’s a bow. You shoot villains with it.” Making a sound of annoyance, she was about to lift it over his head. “Go on, strap it on your back then. Surely, you wouldn’t expect a lady to strap this around her delicate shoulders?”
“I’ll do it,” Link said, taking the bow from her.
“See? Gentleman,” Liselle said, nodding her head toward Link.
Cassian sighed. “Link, can you stop being so perfect? Liselle, did you forget how I offered to carry the basket for you not two minutes ago?”
“You’re right, that was rude. I’m sorry.” She hooked her arm around his. He whispered something in her ear, and she laughed. Then she slapped him on the shoulder. It must’ve been something naughty. Link would probably never know. He felt his heartbeat speeding up. Later that evening, if all went well, he’d be able to be just as familiar and lovey dovey with Zelda.
Now, this was something she could keep her focus on. The play was lovely and witty. Zelda had to laugh when a boy did a smashing impression of Sidon. She herself was played by the angelic older sister from before. Her younger sister was the Great Fairy. She didn’t know the one who played Link, but it had to be the cutest boy from the entire school. That Azu kid had turned out to be an octorok, which popped into view at the most annoying and inappropriate moments. Just like a real octorok, actually. Before the play had started, Zelda couldn’t help but surreptitiously spy where Ivee was seated. Behind her – obviously, because she and her group had been given front row seats – somewhere on the left. Third row or something. Just knowing she was there, with a clear view on her and Link, almost made her want to laugh out loud. Oh, how very mean of her.
She sighed slowly. Because of the hot wine, a little drowsiness had kicked in. Every so often, her eyes drifted to Link. It would’ve been so nice if she could’ve glued herself against him. Like, really nice. Suddenly, she felt the strong desire to be alone with him.
Back over on the stage, the final epic battle between Ganon and them was being re-enacted. The play wouldn’t take much longer, she guessed. “Link,” she whispered.
“Yes?”
“You think that, after this, we could disappear for a bit?”
“Disappear? For what?”
She secretly grabbed his hand and tried to convey with her eyes what she’d want to do. “You know.”
Glancing aside, Link saw her imploring gaze, the heaving of her chest. She needed some affection. Half a day was as long as she could go without body contact. But after the play, he was going to… No, but it was okay, he reminded himself. She wouldn’t be able to get out of this. They had schemed it that way. He would get her onto that stage, no matter what. “Um… I don’t know.”
She bit her lip. “Just for a little while. Just some kissing and touching.”
Link cleared his throat. “We’ll see if there’s an opportunity to slip way,” he mumbled. “Today is kind of all about you.”
The applause marked the end of the play, and Zelda let go of Link’s hand to clap along. She pressed her lips together when someone requested an encore. Then more people did the same. No, shut it, not an encore, she thought desperately. She needed some hankey-pankey time with Link!
She had to try really hard not to roll her eyes when ‘Zelda’ and ‘Link’ appeared back on the stage. A little courting seemed to be going on, in a pleasant kind of post-Ganon chillax atmosphere. Very cute. Suddenly, the girl froze. Her bottom lip started to quiver, and with a dramatic sob, she started to cry. It didn’t seem to be part of the play. The teacher marched onto the stage, calming the girl down again.
“I don’t remember what comes next,” the girl blubbered.
“Oh dear,” the teacher said. “It seems like she has a blackout.”
Oh well, that’s it for the encore then, Zelda thought with a slight smile. Too bad.
“Maybe Queen Zelda can do the rest,” the girl suggested, somewhat cheered up by that sudden thought.
The slight smile on Zelda’s face disappeared at once. What? No! Alone time with Link! Kissing, touching, hands up her skirt!
“Oh,” the teacher said, turning to where Zelda was sitting. “Queen Zelda, would you mind terribly?”
Confused, Zelda looked at Link, then back at the stage. What exactly did she mean by ‘do the rest’? “But I have not rehearsed anything.”
“Oh, but Master Link has seen us rehearsing during his visits to Hateno village. He knows what to do,” the teacher said.
“Please, Queen Zelda,” the girl said with a face so hopeful it was impossible to resist.
Still not understanding, she again looked at Link, who stood up and offered his hand to guide her to the stage. “What is this?”
“I told you, didn’t I?” Link said calmly. “Today is all about you.”
Then she turned to her trusty lady-in-waiting, who was, suspiciously so, sparkling with barely suppressed glee.
“Just go with it, Zelda dear,” she all but giggled.
Caving at last, she took Link’s hand and stood up, following him to the stage. Just like that, Link seemed to be getting a bit nervous. She glanced over at the audience. Well, this was just perfect, wasn’t it? Instead of disappearing, she suddenly found herself in the centre of attention. Earlier that day, she had been in a similar situation, when she was up on the balcony of the castle and had to give her speech. But this not knowing what was going to happen made this quite a bit more daunting and scary.
Link’s voice brought her attention back to him. The warmth of it stirred the butterflies in her belly. “Zelda, my Queen,” he said. Looking very earnest, he heaved a little sigh. “Please forgive your humble knight for having lied to you. I am so terribly sorry. I promise you, it won’t happen again.”
Zelda frowned. “Having lied to me? About what?”
“Well, I told you that it would take five days for it to be ready. But I wanted you to look surprised when I do this.” And then he got down on one knee. There were gasps of surprise and stifled cries of joy coming from the audience.
“Link, what are you doing?” Was this part of the play too? She’d already told him that he no longer needed to kneel for her.
Unless he…?
“Just as you will do your best to become a good Queen, if you would let me, I will do my best to become a good husband, a good father.” An excellent lover, his eyes said. “Zelda, I can no longer ask for your parents’ blessing...”
“Link, what… Are you actually…?”
“But would you please do me the honour of becoming my wife?”
Zelda stood stock still. Strange things were happening inside her body. She started feeling hot and cold at the same time. Her head started spinning too. Maybe that wine hadn’t been such a good idea. Link’s face started to move and strangely warp in front of her eyes. She felt like she was falling, but in a very pleasant way.
“Zelda? Oh gosh, Zelda!”
There were noises. Voices. But they were all jumbled up and sounded as if her ears were wrapped up in gauze.
“Master Link, I think you may have to do mouth-to-mouth.”
“Don’t be ridiculous, Yunobo. She’s just tired, the stress of it all became too much.”
“Oh, why you’re right, Sidon. Look, she’s coming to.”
“Link?” She felt like she was lying in bed. In Link’s arms. Strange though. Why was he wearing his shield and sword? And clothes? “Why aren’t you naked?”
“Zelda, ssh!” Link hissed.
“What did she say?” Odd. Sounded like Teba. What was he doing here?
“You’re majesty!” someone called. Riju now. What the…? Zelda looked around, Yunobo, Sidon, Liselle, Cassian, they were all here. In her bed. “Wh-what are you all doing here?” she mumbled, blinking her eyes. “Get out of my bed, please.”
“Zelda, you’re not in bed.” Link again. Slowly, she started to become aware of her surroundings. Of the cold afternoon air. The smells of food and cooking fires. She reached for her head. When she felt the flower crown, all of today’s events came flooding back. It was the day of the coronation. She had become Queen. And now, she was lying here on a wooden floor, supported by Link’s arms. A bunch of people were staring at her.
“Oh no...” she began weakly. “Don’t tell me I...”
“Yes, you passed out,” Link grinned. “But I caught you.”
“Oh, how embarrassing,” Zelda groaned, dragging the hand that was on her head over her face.
“No, it’s not. It’s already been a long and trying day for you. People will understand.”
Her eyes shot open. “You asked me to...” She veered up, looking straight into his face.
“Yes,” Link nodded with an amused face. “So, let me ask you again.” Just for the show of it. “Zelda, will you marry me?”
For real, he was proposing to her, right here, right now. “Yes,” she said quietly, her voice thick with emotion. As if her hand moved on its own, she lifted it. A ring was being slid around her finger, but she never took her eyes off Link’s face. Then she realised that there was a whole crowd watching, awaiting her answer with bated breath. “Yes!” she repeated, louder. “Yes, I do!” She sprang up and turned to the people, who burst out in cheers and applause. With a brilliant smile on her face, she raised her hand for them to see her ring. “Send messengers to all corners of Hyrule!” she shouted. “I’m getting married!” While she was still receiving the cheers and abundant applause, Link permitted himself to grab her other hand and press a kiss to her cheek, now that she was properly ringed.
“You’re mine now,” he murmured into her ear.
“I always have been,” she beamed.
The rest of the evening, she got to sit on a make shift throne. Link had one too, right next to her. They had been props for during the play. Apparently, Azu and his friend were very good at making them. With a blanket and a pillow, they were actually quite comfortable. For the others, chairs and more pillows and blankets had been gathered from the castle, so they had a nice little lounge area on the stage.
Zelda couldn’t stop staring at her ring. It was a silver ring with three diamonds shaped like a triforce set into it. “Is this real? I mean, the ring. Is it real?”
“Of course it’s real, why wouldn’t it be?” Link said.
“You said it would take five days.”
“Like I said, I wanted you to look surprised when I proposed.”
“Well, I was that!”
“You should’ve seen the look on your face.”
“Before or after I passed out?”
“You had us worried there, for a moment,” Liselle said. Upon seeing her mischievous face, Zelda recalled the way Liselle had been giggling when she had been invited to come onto the stage. It may even have been her who had been the first to request the encore.
“Liselle… You knew?” Zelda slowly said. “And the girl… She didn’t have a blackout at all, did she?”
“Nope,” Liselle chuckled.
From upon his throne, Link leaned over to her and sweetly nuzzled her cheek. “So, do we still need to disappear?”
Zelda giggled. “No. I can be all over you now, as much as I want.”
“To a degree, yes,” Liselle said. “You are still a public figure. Keep it decent.”
“Liselle,” Zelda sighed loud and obnoxiously. She could so do without her motherly finger-wagging remarks.
“Well, if you would rather go down in history as the Queen who doesn’t know her boundaries, instead of the Queen who fainted on the day of her coronation...”
Zelda put a pensive finger to her chin. “Hmm, tough choice indeed. You know, if it was up to me, I’d want to go down in history as the Queen, formerly known as the Princess who had a part in defeating Ganon, if it’s the same to you.”
They all had a laugh about it, as the cups were filled once more. When it started to grow dark, Teba once again took flight, and lit bonfires all over castle town with fire arrows. It was a show in itself. The flames turned the atmosphere so much more magical. They reflected beautifully in her ring.
“You don’t have to worry any more now, do you?” Link said, when he caught her staring at it again.
She tore her eyes away from it, to Link’s beautiful face. “Worry?”
He took her hand and put his lips against it for a gentle kiss. “Liselle has told me about Ivee.”
“Oh.” She may have mentioned that to her once.
“Don’t put things in your head. We just get along well. I’m allowed to have friends, right?”
“Yes.” She nodded and smiled. He only wanted her. She could see it in everything. In the way his hands were on her almost all the time, ever since the proposal. In the way his mouth was nibbling along her pinky finger now. In the way he’d want to eat her up, if he could. “Yes, of course you do. I’m sorry for doubting you.”
“That’s alright,” he said, but from behind her hand, his eyes were smouldering with the promise to make her pay for her distrust. If not tonight, then some other time. A most thrilling prospect.
Zelda took a breath and cleared her throat. “How about giving the soldiers a day off tomorrow as well?” she suggested.
“Oh, but you shouldn’t spoil them too much.”
“It’s not only for their benefit. Surely, you too will be in bed quite late tonight.”
“Hmm...” Link murmured. And then once he would be in bed, it wouldn’t be to sleep right away, he was sure. “Let’s just cut them some slack. Start up at 8 a.m. instead of 5.” Just at that moment, two soldiers passed them by, singing, tankard of beer in hand, doing some kind of folk dance they seemed to have invented on the spot.
“I think that might be a good idea,” Zelda laughed.
“Jolly! Where’s Cassian? He will be delighted to pass on the message.” He looked around, and as it happened, Cassian seemed to have heard, for he left his seat with an ear to ear smile and thankful thumbs up, to go spread the word.
Zelda frowned. “Jolly?”
“Hm,” Link grinned. “Must be the alcohol.”

“Say no more. I’m gonna go get myself a refill. You?”
“No no no, you’re not going anywhere.” Her hand shot out to grab his arm when he was about to get up. “Did you think you were gonna get out of this?”
“Of what?”
“Don’t you hear it? There is music.” She stood up tall in front of him. With sparkling eyes, she nodded to a clearing up ahead, that was being used as a dance floor. “We are going to dance.”
