About half an hour later, Dawn had driven across Rister, entering the east side. She was just up the street from the pub Horus was supposed to be at. She kept the headlights of the car off, driving slowly and quietly, slowly making her way into a dark alley. The alley empty, she made her way deeper into it until she was totally out of sight, shutting the car off then. She slipped the keys into a pocket on her pants before getting out of the car, holding her modified Beretta in her left hand as she reached back into the Highwayman for her rifle with her right hand. She shouldered her Gauss rifle before reaching into the backseat. She grabbed three stimpacks from her sack of medical supplies, slipping the stimpacks into two of the pockets on the sides of her trenchcoat. She took a moment to make sure her Gauss rifle had a full magazine before closing the door to the Highwayman, walking off. She slowly let out a deep breath, flicking off the safety of her Beretta as she headed down the street towards the pub.
She crossed a few streets, the sun shining down on her. She quickly went over her plan once more as the pub came into view. She wasn't sure if anyone would know who she was or recognize her armour, but if they did, she'd use her Gauss rifle on them all, if need be. If nobody knew who she was, she'd just use her Beretta once she got to the second floor and started searching for Horus. If any of Horus' supposed guards let off any shots, people from the first floor of the pub might come investigating, and then Dawn might have to put down a few more people, and she didn't want any more trouble than necessary. She knew she'd have to be quick with her shots to make sure nobody else fired off their guns. She had two escape plans, one for if things went smoothly and quietly, and one in case things got noisy. If everything went smoothly, she'd just walk right out through the front door with no complications. If people from the first floor came up to the second and tried fighting Dawn, not knowing that Horus had his death coming, then Dawn might try to drop down from a window on the pub's second floor, but she'd prefer to try and take a less painful exit, if possible.
She took in the sight of the pub; it hadn't changed a bit since the last time she had seen it, many months before. The building was made of brick. It had remained more or less intact since the Great War, none of the building's form having been destroyed. It was made of red brick, darkened due to the sands of time and the grit of the wasteland wind, now looking a deep crimson shade. There were a few windows on each side of the building, the establishment standing alone without connection to another building. Several of the windows were broken or boarded up with planks of wood, but flickers of light could be seen through the unblocked windows on the first floor of the building, on the floor of the actual pub. A few long-dead neon lights were on the front of the pub, proclaiming that the pub was open along with other things. A hobo sat by the doorway of the pub, looking passed out. Despite it being hardly noon, the place already looked like it had some business in it. Dawn approached the closed door at the front of the building, not moving too fast or too slow in case someone was watching her, just heading towards the door casually.
When she reached it, she raised a gloved hand, pulling on the brass handle of the dark wooden door, opening the door and walking through it's doorway. She took a quick left in the small front room, heading through another open doorway. The interior of the building was lit up not with electrical lights, but with candles and small torches, the air within the pub a bit thin due to the many fires eating it up. A few people sat at the bar to Dawn's left, the wall to her right having several tables and chairs set against it. A man to Dawn's left, by the bar, was playing darts, tossing the small metal spikes at a circular board set against a nearby wall. Aside from the man playing darts and the men at the bar, the only other people within the room was the ghoul bartender along with another figure, looking like a reaver, sitting in a shadowy corner across the room. Everyone looked over to Dawn when she entered. There was something about her, an air of authority, almost an aura of determination. Everyone knew immediately that she was dangerous, that she wasn't someone to be crossed. Dawn looked to the staircase across the room for a moment, the staircase leading up to the second floor of the building. She knew she shouldn't just rush up it right away, she wanted to remain subtle, but she also knew she probably didn't have much time.
She walked over to the bar, standing by the left side of one man. Sitting at the bar were four men, all in a row, Dawn standing by the side of the man on the far left. She motioned for the bartender to come over to her just as the man beside her looked over and, in a bit of a cool yet slightly worried voice, asked "You one of the NCR's Rangers?" Dawn had almost forgotten that the armour she had been wearing for so long was very similar to the armour she had seen someone from the NCR wear. There were a certain group of Rangers that were considered better than anyone else in the NCR's army; they were considered the elites, the very best the NCR had at it's disposal. Dawn had seen someone wearing the armour of the elite Rangers once; it was much like her's, only there were a few more differences to it. Instead of blue lights for the lenses of the helmet, the lights of the NCR's elite Rangers were red. Instead of a bulletproof vest, they had a more metallic chest piece, sort of like that of combat armour.
Instead of wearing pants lined with bulletproof material, like Dawn's outfit had, they wore rodeo pants to keep their agility unhampered. Dawn wasn't sure if her armour was a sort of prototype or simply another version of the armour she had never seen before, but she could see how someone might mistake her for a Ranger if that individual knew of the armour they wore. She looked over at the man, thinking quickly. Should she say she was a Ranger? If so, she'd probably come across as dangerous enough; but what if she said she had killed a Ranger and taken her armour? That could possibly make her come across as even more dangerous. "No. I'm not a Ranger, I have no love for the NCR. I killed one of them and took their armour." Everyone began to look at her with surprise, including the ghoul bartender. Dawn said "It was a tough fight, trust me. The bastard had me on the run a few times, but I eventually turned the tables and got him cornered. Almost took me down, but I got some lucky shots in. I survived, he didn't. The armour's my trophy." The man closest to her said "Holy shit, that's damn impressive. Lemme buy you a drink, you're one tough bitch. I once saw a Ranger take down five slavers on his own, just pow pow pow, and they all went down. Intense shit."
He looked to the bartender, saying "Hey, let's get a drink for the lady. What's your poison?" Dawn said "Just a regular beer will do. Don't take the cap off, though; I have some business to take care of on the second floor before I can settle down for a drink." The ghoul nodded, his raspy voice coming out as he said "You got it." He reached under the counter, pulling up a brown bottle of beer, leaving the cap on as he rested the bottle down on the counter. The man beside her reached into a pocket, pulling out a few caps, resting them down on the counter for the bartender to grab. Dawn looked to the ghoul's face, the blue lenses of her helmet casting his disturbing features in an azure shade. "Tell me, is there a "Horus Franz" up in the motel?" The ghoul nodded, saying "Yeah, he's been up there for about a week now, came in with a bunch of bodyguards and just parked himself there. Wouldn't talk to anyone, just said he had business to take care of. Why?" Dawn calmly said "We're each other's business. He tried to have me killed. I plan on returning the sentiment."
"Are you serious?" One of the men asked, looking over. Dawn looked over, seriously saying "Do I sound like I'm joking around?" The man gulped slightly, saying nothing, just looking back to his bottle of beer. The man closest to Dawn said "Hey, don't worry about us jumping up there. If you've got business with that guy, go on and do it. We won't bother you. I can't promise the other people in their rooms won't check things out, though." Dawn said "I'm not worried about that. I'm not going to take long. Is he still up there, or has he left already?" The ghoul bartender shook his head. "I haven't seen him leave, he should still be up there. His room's paid for another day, too." Dawn nodded, saying "Perfect. Watch my beer, hmm? When I'm done, I'll come back down and take care of it." The man closest to Dawn nodded, saying "I'll keep an eye on it, don't worry." Dawn smiled a little for a moment even though she knew nobody could see it due to her helmet. She began to walk away from the bar, making her way over to and up the stairs.
She entered a long hallway, several wooden doors on either side of the passageway. The floor was a dark green carpeting with several large and easily visible stains at various points along it. Looking down the hall, she could already see three armed men dressed in suits of light leather armour, all armed with different submachine guns, the weapons hanging by their sides from fabric straps. A few lights were along the ceiling, but without power, they simply looked like black domes of glass. The walls covered in chipping and peeling blue paint, Dawn calmly made her way down the hall, subtly holding her left hand behind herself, shying away her silenced pistol. She reached her right hand into her pocket, jangling the keys to the Highwayman lightly. The three armed men looked at her, their hands slowly drifting towards their weapons. Dawn, nearing the end of the hall, turned towards one of the doors to her left, then bringing her left hand by her side, keeping her weapon hidden, only letting the guards see her shouldered Gauss rifle. Thinking Dawn was no threat and just some person going to her room, their arms went by their sides once more, no longer reaching for their weapons.
Dawn pulled out the keys to the Highwayman, pretending they were the keys to the room in front of her, bringing one to the metal knob of the door. She had hardly pushed the key inwards by a centimeter before she whipped her left hand over, raising up her weapon and taking quick yet careful aim. She fired off a shot, the bullet passing through the suppressor with hardly a hiss of a sound before it hit one of the three guards in the head, immediately ending his life and splashing droplets of red against the wall behind him. The remaining two guards hastily raised up their weapons, but before they could fire any shots, Dawn rapidly fired at them. She fired a rather speedy four shots, hitting the both of them in the chest twice. They collapsed to the ground with a thud, the first guard Dawn having shot just slumping down to his side. Dawn let out a soft sigh, her heart beating a little quickly. She had taken down Horus' outside guards without any of them making much noise. Everything had gone even better than she had planned, so far, at least. She slipped the keys to the Highwayman back into a pocket on her pants, slowly approaching the door the guards had been watching over.
It was the last door in the hall, the one right at the very end, sitting in the wall to Dawn's right. It was closed, and Dawn could faintly hear chatter behind it. She pointed her weapon at the two guards she had shot in the chest, giving them both a shot through their heads, Dawn making sure they were both dead. Very slowly and quietly, she stood by the doorway's right side, listening to the chatter inside. Fresh anger rose inside her once she had made out Horus' voice. There appeared to be another male and a female within, but they were all talking excitedly. It took Dawn a moment, but she eventually realized that they must've had some sort of entertainment within, as they were all complimenting a woman on her body. She reached a hand to the knob of the door, gripping it lightly as she, very slowly, tried giving the knob a slight turn. It wouldn't budge. Dawn rolled her eyes slightly. "Guess I'm going to have to make a dramatic entrance." She thought to herself. She took a step back from the door's side, moving over and getting in front of the door. She held her pistol down and pointed it directly in front of the knob, pressing the tip of the Beretta's suppressor right against the keyhole.
She slowly took in a deep breath before exhaling deeply. She fired off a shot, the loud metallic sound ringing out as the doorknob was shot through it's lock. Dawn raised a foot and kicked in the door, holding up her Beretta with both hands, her eyes darting around the room through her helmet's lenses. She saw two guards to be standing to her left, neither of them armed with weapons but dressed in the same leather armour as the ones outside. One was female, and the other was male. She saw the man she knew to be Horus to be seated in a wooden chair off to the right, and right in front of him was a woman, the woman looking like a stripper. She had seemingly been in the middle of giving Horus a lap dance; she had her left knee up on his, her hands on his shoulders, his face partially in her bosom. The stripper was wearing bright blue fishnet stockings and a matching blue G-string, her long brown hair kept back with a blue hairband, the hairband having a small butterfly attachment on the woman's right side. She had light blue heels on her feet to go with the rest of her clothes.
The light blue of her clothes looked wonderful on her slightly tanned, caramel-toned skin. Although the woman looked to be in her early twenties, she wore the headband meant for young girls seemingly without a second thought. The woman had a nice body, suited for her chosen profession; with ample thighs and a nice backside to go with it, as well as a healthy bust, she had an attractive figure to her. Horus was wearing a simple blue T-shirt and ripped black jeans, the jeans missing it's right pantleg at the knee. He wasn't wearing socks or shoes, and his feet looked absolutely filthy, being nearly black with dirt. His hair was short and brown, what hair he had being spiked upwards. Everyone looked over with surprise exploding on their faces. "Oh shit!" The male guard said, diving for the submachine gun resting on a nearby table. Dawn's hands flew over in his direction, Dawn quickly firing three shots at him. The stripper screamed in fear, running away from Horus, fleeing to a corner of the room. The female guard reached for the 10mm pistol in the holster on her left side, the woman managing to squeeze off a few rounds at Dawn before she could bring her pistol over.
Dawn took a bullet to her right upper arm, the bullet biting into her flesh deeply. Two more rounds hit her in the chest, near her throat, her vest stopping them. Another round hit her in her right thigh, but a pocket of bulletproof material stopped the bullet. Dawn rapidly fired five shots at the woman. The woman's armour stopped two of Dawn's shots, but another two pierced into her chest, punching through her armour. The fifth shot hit the woman in the stomach, also going through her armour. The woman collapsed to the ground, a trickle of blood creeping down to her shoulder from the left corner of her mouth. Dawn looked over to Horus. He had scrambled over to a nearby shotgun, about to pick it up when Dawn pointed her Beretta at him. She forcefully shouted "Horus!!" He froze in place, his face going white. He was sweating profusely. Dawn angrily said "Touch the shotgun and you're a dead man, got me?" Dawn planned on killing Horus no matter what he did, and he seemed to sense that; he grabbed the shotgun. Dawn fired two quick shots, hitting Horus in his right knee as well as his left hand. Horus screamed in pain and collapsed to the ground.
Dawn saw that a large chunk of Horus' right knee and been destroyed, including what must have been his kneecap. His leg was involuntarily twitching and shaking violently, something that must have caused him even more pain on top of what he already felt. Dawn had blown off his left hand's pinky as well as his ring finger, taking a chunk of the palm of his hand, as well. She had likely hit him in the part of his palm that connected the two fingers, simply severing them with the chunk she had hit. His hand was shaking rapidly as well, Horus gritting his teeth so tightly he was in danger of crushing them, his eyes tightly screwed shut. Dawn walked over and grabbed his shotgun, tossing it away. The room wasn't too big, having a pair of beds on the far side of the room along with a shelf. A desk was to her left, along with a couch. A small dresser of sorts sat by Dawn's right side, the shotgun having been leaning in the corner created between the dresser's left side and the wall behind it. The carpeting and walls were just like the ones in the hall outside.
A pair of windows sat in the wall to Dawn's left, the both of them open and leading out to the front of the pub. Dawn looked over to the stripper, pointing her weapon at her. The stripper was kneeling in the corner, tears streaking down her face as she raised her hands defensively crying out "No, please, I-" Dawn cut her off, lowering her weapon as she said "Relax, you're just doing your job, I know that. Just get out of here." The woman smiled shakily, getting up and saying "Thank you, oh God, I was so scared you were gonna kill me! Thank you!" The woman hastily walked past Dawn and the two slain guards on the other side of the room, sniffling as she made her way through the open doorway, her heels not making any sound against the carpeting as she fled. Dawn kicked Horus in the stomach, causing him to shout out for a moment in pain, Dawn shifting him over on to his back. She reached over and rested her Beretta down on the dresser to her right, raising her free hands to her head, pulling off her helmet with an irritated sigh. She narrowed her eyes, her mouth curled into a slight frown as she rested her helmet down on the dresser by her Beretta.
She grabbed her pistol once more, turning over to Horus once more. He groaned every now and then, but as Dawn stomped down on his wounded knee, he positively screamed in pain. Dawn gritted her teeth for a moment, staring down at Horus' face angrily, watching his features twist up in agony. "It's me, Horus. The woman you tried to have killed. Remember Dawn Darkwater? Do you remember how I react to people who try to kill me?!" Horus cried out "Oh God, Dawn, please!! Get off my fuckin' knee!!" Dawn took her boot from his knee, hearing Horus sigh in relief. Tears were flowing from his eyes. Dawn stepped over to his injured hand, hearing him quickly say "No, don't-!" before Dawn cut him off, stomping down on his injured hand. He screamed out in pain once more, writhing under Dawn's hand. "Was your little hit squad over Star? It was, wasn't it?!" Horus angrily shouted out "Yes!! She meant everything to me, and you let her die!! I could've gone back for her, argghh!" Dawn sneered slightly in disgust, her upper lip curling upwards a little at it's left corner.
"If I had let you go back for her, you would've died along with her. I did the smart thing, you dumb fuck! We couldn't save her!" Horus looked up to Dawn's eyes, spitting up at her defiantly, his spit landing on her left pantleg, near her knee. "Fuck you, Darkwater! I'll haunt your ass until you finally get what's coming to you!" Dawn smiled venomously, saying "Wonderful choice of last words." She pointed her Beretta down to Horus' face, squeezing the trigger just once. The bullet blew through Horus' nose, blowing it apart and leaving a big gash in the middle of his face. His eyes went a little cross, a big gushing of blood flowing from the hole in his face. Dawn took a step back from him, anger still on her face as she watched Horus give off one last sigh in death. She watched for a few moments as a puddle of blood quickly formed under his head, Dawn then taking one last quick look around the room. She paused when she spotted a brahmin-leather suitcase resting on one of the beds nearby. She walked over, resting her Beretta down on the bed's fabric as she grabbed the suitcase.
It wasn't locked or fastened in any way, Dawn simply flipping up the top and looking at what lay within. She spotted several items within. A pack of Mentats sat within, along with a small metal ring and, amazingly enough, a plasma pistol. Dawn's eyes lit up when she spotted the plasma pistol, but she quickly noticed that it lacked any charge to it, the weapon having no ammo. Her eyes drifted to the ring. She reached down to it and picked it up, looking to it. It was made of solid silver, a section on the top of it expertly cut out, shaped into a cross. Despite being plain except for the religious symbol, it had a certain quality about it, something tough and rugged despite having a smooth and dull form. She knew the ring used to belong to Star; Horus must have gone back to her corpse and taken the ring once he was physically capable of doing so. Dawn grabbed the plasma pistol, holding it up and wincing at the pain in her right arm. She dropped the plasma pistol back into the suitcase with a "clack," reaching into one of the pockets on her jacket, pulling out a stimpack. She pulled off her trenchcoat, resting it down on the bed.
Finding a vein in her right arm, she pushed the needle into herself, the stimpack automatically injecting it's fluid into her. Dawn's pain began to fade as her wound slowly closed. She looked back to the plasma pistol, holding it up and examining it. It had a thin black handle, sort of like the thin handle of a laser pistol. Most of it's form was black, but two sections of it were a tan colour, those two parts being just above the handle at the top of the weapon's frame as well as just past the small energy cell insertion point. Just past the trigger was an empty slot in the weapon's frame, where it's source of ammunition, a small energy cell, would be inserted. On the weapon's right side, just above the insertion point, there was a thin black bar of some sort of glass; Dawn knew that when a small energy cell was inserted into the weapon, the black bar would glow bright green to show that the weapon was ready to fire.
The barrel of the weapon ended in a round shape, a small white tube from within the weapon's barrel sticking out in the middle of the rounded end, the superheated green plasma flying from the white tube when the trigger was pulled. A very small scope sat on the top of the weapon's frame; it didn't have a lot of zoom to it, but if someone needed that extra bit of aim to take down a charging critter, it'd do the job. Overall, the weapon seemed to be in fine enough shape, Dawn wondered where Horus could've possibly gotten the money for it. Dawn pushed the weapon into a pocket on her trenchcoat, slipping Star's old ring into the same pocket. She pushed the box of Mentats into a different pocket before grabbed her Beretta once more. She walked over to the dresser by Horus' corpse, grabbing her helmet with one hand, pushing it on quickly. She took a moment to adjust it before making her way towards the door. She had gotten her revenge, she felt satisfied once more. Horus had paid for his transgression with his life, and now Dawn felt she could take her exit and leave the situation behind in her memories.
Heading out into the hall, she was faced with a group of four people, all of them just in their underwear. It was comprised of three men and one woman, all of them armed with varying melee weapons; one had a wooden baseball bat, one had a rusty crowbar, one had a combat knife, and the last had a set of brass knuckles on his right fist. Dawn stood among the corpses of the three guards Horus had had outside his door, staring at those in front of her as she raised her Beretta. "Trust me, they deserved it. Now get out of my way." Her forceful words intimidated the group in front of her, the group only having gone out to investigate the noises they had heard, already frightened enough when they saw the bodies as well as the imposing figure of Dawn. They all rushed back to their rooms, heading through nearby doorways, shutting and locking the doors behind themselves. Dawn didn't bother with taking any of the loot from any of the slain guards, simply leaving them be as she headed back down the stairs. Walking back into the bar, she was greeted by a round of applause.
The men at the bar, the man playing darts, as well as the reaver in the corner, they all clapped when Dawn came back downstairs. "Holy shit, she actually did it!" One of the men at the bar exclaimed. Dawn did a quick little bow, smiling a little from behind her helmet. As she walked back over to the bar, the applause quieted down until it disappeared. A metal bottle opener sat by her beer, and Dawn quickly raised it up to the top of the bottle, using it to pull off the cap of her bottle. She felt she was being watched, looking over to her right side. The four men at the bar were looking at her intently, but as Dawn looked over, they all tried to act as if they had been looking at something else, obviously trying to make it seem as if they hadn't been staring at her. Dawn raised an eyebrow curiously before she rested her Beretta down on the bar's counter, raising her hands to her head, pulling off her helmet. As her features were revealed, all the men stared at her once more, all of them having various expressions of surprise.
Dawn rested her helmet down by her Beretta, smiling softly at their expressions, saying "Calm down, boys." before raising her bottle to her lips, taking a quick drink. The one closest to her stammered for a moment before saying "You're Ruby-Red, the porn star!" The man with the darts turned over, his eyes widening as he said "Damn, I heard she was more than just a beautiful babe!" Dawn laughed softly for a moment before saying "Relax guys, I'm just like any other girl." One of the men at the bar said "I've seen almost every one of your movies, you're amazing!" Dawn smiled for a moment as she said "Thanks, glad you liked my stuff." She took another gulp from her bottle before the ghoul bartender asked "Did you kill them all, Horus and the lot?" Dawn nodded, saying "Yeah, they're dead. I left their guns and stuff, you can sell them if you want; consider it my apology for disrupting your business." The bartender nodded appreciatively. One of the men at the bar said "Shit, you must be pretty fuckin' tough if you took down a Ranger. And you're in porn, too? Taking advantage of everything you've got, I guess?" Dawn winked and smiled knowingly, saying nothing.
She pulled on her helmet again before she grabbed her beer and raised it up slightly for a moment, grabbing her Beretta as she said "Thanks for the drink guys, but I best be on my way. I'd love to stay and chat, but you know how it is; duty beckons." The men nodded sagely, but one of them piped up a request. "Hey Ruby-Red, before you go, can I give your tits a feel?" Dawn was personally disgusted by the request; if it wasn't related to work or her own personal desire, she didn't like it when someone tried to lay their hands on her. Her body wasn't something she let just anybody have a taste of. She stayed polite and playful, however, saying "Mmm, sorry buddy, can't do it. Tell you what, though; go on down to New Reno one of these days, try out for a movie role, and who knows, you might get chosen to do a movie with me. How's that?" The man grinned slightly, saying "You're on, babe!" Dawn rolled her eyes slightly before leaving the pub, walking down the street and heaving away from the building. She walked for hardly a street more before she realized she was being followed.
She twirled her right hand around slightly, feeling that her bottle of beer still had roughly three quarters of it's fluid inside. She knew that the fluid would add weight to the throw she had planned. She made her way to the alley that the Highwayman sat inside, Dawn blending into the shadows. She hastily yet silently made her way to a dumpster, sneaking behind it, waiting for her follower to show themself. She waited a few moments before she spotted a figure enter the alley. It was the reaver from the pub. He was dressed in tight black leather pants along with a shirt of sheer black fabric, goggles over his eyes, the glass of the goggles being tinted dark enough to hide his eyes. His hair was dark brown and combed back, several leather belts fastened around his arms. In his right hand, he held a laser pistol. Dawn held her bottle of beer by the neck of it, raising it up for a moment before whipping it at the nearby reaver. The bottle spun in the air for a moment before cracking against the side of the reaver's head, the reaver letting out a loud and pained groan before collapsing to the ground on his right side.
He had dropped his pistol in his fall, the weapon flattering to the ground by his side. The bottle fell by the reaver, partially shattering against the rough concrete below, it's alcoholic fluid leaking out to the ground. Dawn rushed over, pointing her Beretta down at the reaver boy's head as she kicked away his laser pistol. "Why were you following me?" She questioned. The boy took a moment to his respond, his head likely swimming in pain. When he looked up and over in Dawn's direction, his eyes widened when he found himself staring down the barrel of a gun. "Whoa, don't shoot!" He said in fear, scrambling up on to his bum, scooting back from Dawn slightly. Dawn kept her Beretta pointed down at his face. "Answer my question!" She snapped with annoyance, her finger resting calmly on the trigger of her pistol. The boy said "I wanted to tell you something! It's about Dominique Dubois!" Dawn furrowed her brow for a moment before saying "Out with it, then." The boy lowered his hands, still sitting on the ground as he said "Yesterday, she told me a little about her time travelling with you and the others. She seemed so sad about it all, but she had some nice memories...She spoke about you quite a lot, along with someone she called "Kid"."
The boy slowly got up to his feet as he said "She said she looked up to you, that you had the body of a breeder yet the heart of a fighter and the spirit of a tempered warrior, the perfect maiden of His transcendental glory." Dawn smirked slightly as she lowered her Beretta. She spoke with a bit of amusement yet also a touch of annoyance as she said "The body of a breeder? How tasteful." The reaver said "Dominique is in Rister, I know where she is. The way she spoke about things...It was almost like you two had unfinished business of some sort. After hearing the way you handled your business with the men in the pub's motel, though..." Dawn said "They tried to have me killed; Dom didn't. Where is she? I know someone that'll want to see her." The reaver boy said "She's not far, just a few neighbourhoods from here. I can take you to her, if you'd like." Dawn motioned towards her nearby Highwayman. "Get in the front with me, we'll drive. First, I've got to pick up my friend, then we'll see about finding Dominique." The reaver boy nodded, and, within just a minute, the two were in the front of the Highwayman, driving out of the alley and heading down the street beyond.
Kid heard the Highwayman pull up to the safehouse, rushing over to the front door, pulling it open. Stitch and Ice had finally come down from their room not long before, feasting upon the food Dawn had left for them. They now seemed much more amorous and affectionate with one another, always close to one another's sides, holding one another close in silence every now and then. Libitina had gone out not long after Dawn had, so Kid had been more or less alone for a while, taking his time to slowly go over Ace's old journal once more. When he heard the vehicle pull up to the front of the safehouse, he had dropped the book to the sofa, by where he had been sitting. He watched from the doorway as Dawn got out of the Highwayman, standing by the open driver's side door, beckoning for him to come over. Kid spotted a figure he didn't recognize in the passenger's side seat, the figure looking like a reaver, wearing dark leather and such like Dominique had when he first met her. He walked over, Dawn pulling off her helmet and resting it on the dashboard of the car quickly.
When he reached her, they greeted one another in a tight embrace, the both of them smiling with closed eyes. "I'm glad you're okay..." He mumbled, the right side of his face pressing to Dawn's protective vest, over her chest. Dawn kissed the top of his head, rubbing his back for a moment before saying "I told you I'd be careful...Things are safe now, the guy that put the hit squad on me won't be bothering anyone anymore." The two slowly released one another, Dawn saying "The reaver in the car says he knows where Dominique is. I figured you'd want to be there when I saw her." Kid's eyes lit up for a moment before he suddenly seemed apprehensive. "What's wrong?" Dawn gently asked. Kid had his hands on her hips, Dawn having her hands up on his shoulders. Her long black hair hung down behind her, over her trenchcoat, the light breeze that was picking up beginning to play with the soft strands of her hair. Kid softly said "Well...It's just...I never really thought about what I'd say to her once I saw her...What if she doesn't..."
Kid trailed off. Dawn asked "Well, what is it exactly that you want from her?...Do you just want to see her again, or do you want her to come with us like she had been doing before?" Kid looked up to Dawn's eyes as he said "I want her to come with us, travel with us, just like before..." Dawn smiled a little and said "Then just tell her that, tell her what you want. It'll be okay." Kid nodded slightly, saying "Okay...If you think I should..." Dawn smiled and gave him a quick kiss on the lips, saying "Come on, let's get going." Kid nodded, the two of them getting into the Highwayman, Kid getting into the backseat. The reaver gave Dawn instructions, guiding her along a few streets, eventually getting her to stop in front of a large and decrepit looking building. The three of them got out, Dawn pulling on her helmet and keeping her modified Beretta in her left hand, turning the car off and slipping the keys into a pocket on her pants. The reaver boy led the two of them up to the building. Kid looked along it, taking in it's appearance. It was four stories high, but the right side of the building's fourth floor had collapsed in on itself, being totally demolished. It was made of a dark brown brick, several shattered windows on all sides of the large building.
The reaver led them right up to the front doorway, the doorway lacking an actual door, the three of them walking through and into the darkness beyond. Kid instinctively reached up and held Dawn's right hand with his left, Dawn holding his hand back protectively. The building was fairly dark, but the reaver seemed to know the way. Dawn, with the aid of her helmet's internal lights for the lenses, followed after the reaver boy. After going through a few hallways and making their way up to the second floor, things lit up considerably. Several lit candles sat in makeshift sconces on the walls, and natural daylight poured into wherever a room had a window. The three of them were quiet, but they were no loner alone. Other reavers were all over the second floor, some talking, some simply lounging around, others watching the newcomers curiously. At one point, a female reaver dressed in nothing but tight leather pants and leather bracelets walked up to the reaver boy leading Dawn and Kid. The girl wasn't tremendously curvy, but she was obviously female, and the sight of the female simply walking up to them while partially nude put blush in Kid's cheeks.
The boy kept his dark goggles down as the girl approached. She had a totally shaved head, nothing but light stubble on her skull. Several tattoos, looking like bits of machinery and circuits, were done all along her stomach, arms, and neck. Looking to the boy, she peacefully asked "Have you brought these two here to hear of His message?" The boy shook his head, saying "No...Maybe another time. I brought them here because I know they know Dominique." The girl's eyes widened a little, looking to Dawn. "The woman with dark armour...Is she the Beautiful One Dominique spoke of?" The boy nodded, glancing at Dawn. "She has her helmet on now, but yes. Her face looks as if He wrote it's code, Himself." Dawn wasn't used to hearing that she was apparently so good-looking that the god of some religion must've had a hand in her creation. The girl took a step back, saying "Please, go on, take them to see Dominique. I believe she's tuning up her laser pistol right now, but other than that, I don't think she's much busy." The boy nodded, waving for Dawn and Kid to follow him, saying "C'mon, guys."
He started walking again, leading the two off. Walking through a few more hallways, the group eventually came across a large room filled with reavers, the room looking like some sort of massive living room, or, at the very least, the room was treated by the reavers as such. Kid glanced around the room, just seeing the reavers to be lounging around and relaxing, most of them doing so in silence, the rest just gently murmuring to one another. Kid noticed that some reavers wore very little, practically wearing nothing but loinclothes made of dark leather. Others wore entire suits that covered every bit of their skin, covering themselves from their heads down to their toes, wearing tight strappings of leather and various masks. Some wore gasmasks, others wore dark goggles like the boy leading Dawn and Kid wore, others wore types of helmets with interesting designs scratched into them, curious visors of varying colours shading their eyes. At one point, Kid looked over to the right, feeling a little sickened by what he suddenly saw. A male reaver, dressed up almost entirely in a dark leather outfit, was standing over some sort of table.
A female reaver, dressed only in a pair of shorts and a tank top, had the flesh surrounding her right eye cut and peeled back, the male reaver standing over her with a scalpel. Her bloody muscles and even a bit of bone were visible in the big circular cutting around her eye. Beside the male sat a tray covered in rather advanced pieces of machinery, some small, some about as big as one of Kid's hands. The female reaver didn't appear to be in any pain despite part of her face being cut open, and several stimpacks sat by her side on the table, so Kid figured she'd be able to fix herself up if need be. Kid tugged on Dawn's hand, saying "Hey, what're they doing over there?" Dawn looked over curiously, spotting the machinery by the male reaver's side. "Most likely a sort of technological replacement. Reavers do that to themselves sometimes, though it can be dangerous...Only guys I know of that have the proper tools for cybernetic implants and such is the Brotherhood." Kid said "Can we go see?" Dawn shrugged, beginning to walk over, the boy that had been leading them noticing them walk over.
When the two reached the male and female reavers, the male looked over at them for a moment before looking back to the female. He was raising up a strange looking tool, bringing it to the sliced-open side of the reaver's face. "Are you doing a cybernetic transplant?" Dawn asked. The male reaver nodded silently, beginning to bring the tool close to the female reaver's now-lidless and bloodied eyeball. Kid felt a little queasy watching the male reaver work, the tool somehow reaching around the eyeball and beginning to slowly pull it out of it's socket. Dawn watched without any problems. "Is her eye damaged or something?" She asked. The female suddenly spoke then, smiling a little, saying "No, it is not damaged. I just want to be able to see things as He does." Dawn was surprised that the woman was still conscious. "How many Med-X shots did you take?" She asked. The woman smiled more and said "Five. I can't feel a thing." The male reaver pulled out the woman's eyeball a little, a thin tendril of sorts still reaching down into the woman's socket from the eyeball. Kid looked over, seeing the eye pulled out, mustering up a question. "C-Can you still see with that eye?" He asked.
The woman raised her one undamaged eyebrow, saying "Right now? Not exactly...Everything's sort of...I-It's hard to explain, but let's just say "not really". Don't worry, though. Soon, my cybernetic eye will replace my eye of flesh, and my cuts will be stitched up." A squirt of red came from the optic nerve at the bottom of the woman's eye, the man having grabbed it and snipped it with a pair of scissors. He let the woman's bloody eyeball fall to her chest, then reaching over to the tray of mechanical pieces nearby. The woman sort of giggled, saying "Eh heh, that kind of felt weird. Sort of tickles." The male reaver spoke then, his voice muffled from his tight mask. "That's good. If it didn't, then I did my cut wrong. Now, we just use this piece here on the nerve, and we can start getting the impant on it's way..." The boy that had been leading the two of them said "Come, doctor Jebediah will need to concentrate. Let me show you to Dominique." Dawn and Kid turned from the two reavers then, walking after the boy as he slowly led them away.
Walking through a few more rooms, the two eventually came across a quiet and dim workshop of some sort, several workbenches spread throughout the room. Only one figure was in the room, it was a female reaver. She sat at a workbench with a few candles lit up on the sides of the bench's top, a few machine-like, clinking sounds coming out on the air as she fiddled with a laser pistol. A small box of tools sat by her left arm. She was dressed in a black jumpsuit with metal plates fastened over vital spots, such as the joints of her limbs as well as over her stomach and chest. A gasmask sat on the workbench by a pair of half-melted candles. A long strip of cloth, being red like blood, hung from the pauldron on her left shoulder, flowing down by her back. If the reaver had been standing up, the cloth would reach down to just behind her left knee. Her hair short and just slightly curly, her hair was thick and pure blond, reaching down to her neck. Currently, she had her hair smoothed behind her ears as she looked over her work, still looking down at her laser pistol.
Only the reaver's left side was facing the three of them, but it was enough for Kid and Dawn to identify her as Dominique. "Dom!" Kid said. Dominique's eyes widened as she looked over, saying a few words in French before saying "Kid?" Kid's eyes grew a little watery as he released Dawn's hand, rushing over to Dominique. The male reaver, the one that had guided the two, subtly took his leave. When Kid reached Dominique, she twisted over to look at him, as she had been sitting on a stool that could spin around. He grabbed her in a hug, reaching his arms around her shoulders and pulling her close. He stood between her legs slightly, the left side of his face pressing against the left side of her own. He was smiling broadly. "Man, I missed you..." He said before sniffling. Dominique seemed surprised, her eyes a little wide. After a moment, her bottom lip gave a heavy quiver, tears flooding her eyes. She grinned happily, reaching her arms around Kid in return, almost burying her face down into the side of his neck.
She mumbled a few words in French before saying "I didn't expect to see you so soon!..." Kid breathed in the soft scent of her hair, Dominique rubbing her face into his throat, the two of them practically melting in one another's arms. Dawn leaned against the wall to her left while still in the doorway, smiling slightly, crossing her arms across her chest as she watched the two of them have their tearful reunion.
