Dwingvatt stared after her in utter confusion. But he had little time to dwell on it, as there was a scream from the main room.
//You've got to be kidding me,// he groaned, she'd not even been out of his sight for thirty seconds and she was already in trouble. He went to the bedroom door and looked out, being greeted by the sight of one of his soldiers having Inphyy at sword point. At his front door stood a female holding a welp in her arms, covering its eyes. Fucking lovely. Visitors, Dwingvatt thought, recognizing the soldier as one from his platoon.
//Dwarrgo stand down!// he called walking into the room. The soldier reacted instinctively to the command, turning to face Dwingvatt, but keeping his eyes on the human.
//By the Dark it is true then!// the soldier exclaimed his eyes widening.
//From your shocked expression I gather that the rumors are flying abound?// Dwingvatt sighed crossing his arms. Damn you Dywkfarrio.
//They're saying all sorts of crazy nonsense!// squeaked the welp as he freed himself from his mother's arms and scurried up to Dwingvatt looking rather proud of himself and not sparing Inphyy a second glance. The white goblin chucked and crouched to put himself at eye level with they welp.
//Pray tell what your pointed ears have heard?//
//They say you're stuck caring for her! And that we've all got to be nice to her because we're gonna make her our ally!// the welp recited bouncing about excitedly.
//Smart welp Dwarrgo, how old is he?//
//Only five. But I don't think that my beautiful mate has forgiven me for being in battle during his birth,// the soldier rolled his eyes to the female goblin who had come in and closed the door and was trying to collect her son, who had taken a great interest in Inphyy and was attacking her with questions and was unintentionally backing her against a wall in pursuit of his curiosity. Dwingvatt made an irritated noise in the back of his throat and glared at the soldier for bring up the matter of a mate; but could not keep a straight face as Inphyy looked at him desperately for help, still trying to get away from the welp.
//If we've come at a bad time--?// Dwarrgo's mate started.
//No, you're fine,// Dwingvatt said. "Inphyy, kitchen," he pointed to the door.
The human didn't need a second invitation, she didn't want their prying eyes on her and the child goblin was all but overwhelming.
//Gods, she's thin,// whispered Dwarrgo's mate as Inphyy left, nearly running from the room.
//She obviously doesn't understand us. Please contain your son, least my most unwelcome house guest have a heart attack,// Dwingvatt said in a tone that stated no arguments would be heard, then he followed the human into the other room to find her doubled over, leaning on the butcher block for support, her entire body quivering.
"Are you alright?" he asked softly, putting his hand on her shoulder. Inphyy swallowed and tried to calm her shaking body as she nodded. The white goblin's hand lingered on her shoulder for a moment and then slowly traced down her back, along her spine to her hips, lingering once more. Inphyy shuddered as he did, the touch was gentle, comforting, giving her entire body gooseflesh as a small sigh escaped her.
"Sit with us for a bit alright? The welp will not harass you." The need to start integrating her was urgent if the council expected progress by next spring. It would require absolute and total immersion. Although he had expected her to say protest she nodded her body stiffening as she did, like she was bracing herself for something unpleasant. As she nodded Dwingvatt took his hand away and she bit back a soft whimper at the loss of the warm touch, as he stepped over to the stove to encourage the small fire in it to heat some water for tea.
"Here, drink this. It will calm your nerves," he gave her some of the remains of the tea he'd prepared for Magistra and himself earlier. The human sniffed it cautiously and apparently detecting no poison drank it, then followed him back into the main room.

//It looks as though she's asleep,// Dwarrgo said to his host some hours later. Sure enough, Inphyy had her head cradled in her good arm and her tense breathing had slowed.
//I never imagined we'd see her up close unless she was dead. She's so still. So different then the stories,// his mate whispered.
//Stories are just that,// Dwingvatt said glancing at Inphyy and dreading the enormous task ahead of him, he sighed.
//Now with the task the council has entrusted you, I assume it will take most of your time, I'll see to it that the others know not to let their welps bother you,// Dwarrgo's mate spoke again, a look of concern on her face as she glanced at her own welp to the dozing human.
//She's harmless without her Orb Spark. Humans don't carry them in their bodies as we do, they use talismans. In fact I would welcome a visit from the welps,// he might even be able to make them help him clear his fields of the ravaging ivy and weeds that had taken over.
//We should be leaving. Its getting late,// Dwarrgo said as he relieved his wife of their sleeping son and stood.
//I never mind the company,// their host replied, bowing to Dwarrgo's mate and raising his hand behind his left ear in a fist signaling farewell to his guests as they left. The meeting had remained fairly uneventful and low key despite its length. Most of the talk had centered on how they would manage through the winter, Dwarrgo's mate had maintained some of the small family's land and with the soldier back they would be able to pull through the winter without pinching. Dwingvatt would have to clear his land and gather what the earth had sprung up in his absence, hopefully enough staples could be preserved so he wouldn't have to depend on the rest of the village. The white goblin shook his head in frustration, it was too late to plant crops, and nature had supplied him with summer fruits but next to no staples. His brief overview of the field that morning had given him next to no grain and he had no animals raised, who would've taken care of them? He was looking at a winter of no grain and no meat. He would be able to manage, but what troubled him was Inphyy. Dwingvatt looked at the sleeping human. She'd fallen asleep just a little over an hour ago, despite her near constant tremors, although it wasn't cold, Dwingvatt assumed it was a matter of nerves.
"Inphyy," he shook her shoulder gently and she awoke with a start, reacting with the startling speed that he was beginning to associate with her, as she snatched his hand and twisted it in an attempt to flip him. But her strength was still severely lacking and Dwingvatt caught her body to prevent her from further damaging herself.
"Calm down," he said firmly as she struggled against him for a few moments. The human gave one last try and gave up making a soft frustrated noise.
Dwingvatt let her go and she weaved for a moment and he wondered if she would collapse, but she steadied herself.
"Come on," he touched her arm gently, careful not to startle her. He led her to the kitchen and took a few clay dishes out of the cupboard and removed a small red mushroom, several small purple flower and handful of dried mint leaves and added them to the left over tea from their guests.
"You sure drink a lot tea," Inphyy muttered sleepily as she stood closer to the stove, shivering slightly.
"What else would we drink? Alcohol?" Dwingvatt snorted at her comment. The only thing alcohol was good for was lighting fires and disinfectant. Humans drank the liquor and became foolish and disorientated. The orcs had started trading with the humans before the Orb War and adopted the liquor into their culture and been made easy prey for the human tribes. Dwingvatt carefully scooped the liquid out of the pot, it had taken on a red color, careful to keep the herbs out of the cup and handed it to Inphyy.
"Drink this," he instructed. Again she cautiously sniffed it and upon finding no poison that she could detect, drank the steaming liquid. A silence had fallen between them and Inphyy kept looking around as if expecting something to jump out of the shadowed corners of the room. Then she suddenly stopped and looked directly at the white goblin, her mouth open as if about to speak, but her eyes rolled back and she started to collapse.
Dwingvatt caught her, half expecting the strong reaction to the herbs, her quivering had dulled significantly and her heart rate had slowed. Carefully he lifted her and carried her to her room
