Tylron sat cross-legged in a dark alleyway, near the eastern canals in Stormwind. His eyes were closed, his face a mask of concentration. He made no sound, though his body flinched at random intervals as if he was being struck. His robes were the same as they always were. Beneath a thin layer of dirt was the remains of a black robe with faint green lines cutting through it, curling around his limbs and shooting in jagged lines towards the center. Even though it was torn in several places, what was left of his held strong. His hair was messy, yet didn’t seem to have the same amount of dirt as his garments. His hair was a dark brown, close to being black. His face almost seemed young, as if he were no more than twenty years of age. His mouth twisted in a grimace as his arm twitched. A small glowing orb appeared in front of him, a sphere of darkness with a faint cackle of what seemed to be green electricity. Tylron opened his eyes, glaring at the sphere. His left eye was a dull brown, being no different than average, yet his right was different. It had remnants of the original brown, yet had a tint of green as well, the two mixing into a repulsive color. Instead of being a simple circle, the pupil was a triangle instead. Both eyes were focused on the sphere, almost willing it to leave. After a full minute of remaining motionless, the sphere vanished. Tylron closed his eyes once more, slowly bringing one leg out of position, using it to stand up. When he opened his eyes once more, his left eye matched the twisted right. A sudden noise caught his attention. Through the alley, he saw a thin night elf walk by. Above him was the faint outline of another person in a sitting position. Tylron grinned, beginning to step towards the elf before he walked out of sight. “Here you are!” The voice startled Tylron, yet his expression didn’t show it. He slowly turned around, curious to see the owner of the voice. To his surprise, it was a draenei. The same draenei who he himself had been following, Serenity. She stood calmly, yet her eyes bored holes through him. He could almost feel the anger radiating from her. The corner of his lips slowly turned upwards in a smirk. “Well well…” He said, his voice twisted. It sounded like that of a normal human, but something about it set Serenity on edge, her body tensing up. His eyes narrowed. “I suppose I should be surprised that you found me… but it was only a matter of time.” He said. Serenity glared at him. “You need to get me out of here.” She demanded. Her words simply made Tylron’s smile grow. He reached out to here, a black orb of magic forming in his hands. “I could kill you just as easily.” The bluntness of his words made Serenity take a step back. Her eyes flickered to the magic in his hand fearfully for only a moment before returning to his. Tylron looked over his shoulder, seeing that the elf had gone. Shrugging, he returned his attention to Serenity. She hadn’t moved, but her face had set itself in determination. Tylron turned his hand upward, bending his finger and flicking it so that it sent the ball of magic towards her. She let out a small cry of fear before raising a faint blue barrier around herself, holding both arms in front of her. Her precautions were irrelevant though, as the sphere separated into two before it ever touched her, sailing harmlessly around her before reforming. It travelled for a few meters before stopping, simply hovering in the air. Serenity turned around in time to see the sphere hurdle towards a nearby trash can, instantly disintegrating it. “That could have been your head… even with your little shield…” Serenity’s eyes betrayed her stance as she turned around, facing Tylron once more. She was surprised to see that he hadn’t moved, and was simply watching her like she was something to marvel at. The two stood silently for several seconds before her courage worked itself up again. “But… why did you do it?” She asked. If asked about it later, she would have told anyone that his eyes changed momentarily as she asked the question. She couldn’t tell what had happened, but his eyes flickered before he gave his response. “I have no reason to tell you my intentions. Now, if you’ll excuse me…” He turned, his body beginning to get eaten away by shadows. Not willing to lose him, Serenity blinked through space so that she was right beside him. His face showed mild surprise as it vanished, the shadows eating away at Serenity as well… When Serenity opened her eyes, she was in a much different place. The forest looked like Elwynn, yet it felt cold, as if it were further north. She stood outside the door of a small human home. The door was cracked open, yet no sounds came from within. She peered into the darkness searchingly before she heard girlish laughter behind her. Turning around, she saw a girl, appearing to be in her teens, running from a younger boy who looked much like her. He had a large grin on his face, reaching out his hand to touch her. She jumped out the way and took off, the two chasing each other in the grass. Nearby, two adults sat on a picnic table, smiling at the two youths. None of them seemed to notice the newcomer, and Serenity stood by, watching the odd events. The boy went in to a burst of speed, surprising the girl long enough for him to catch her. He lightly touched her arm before darting the other way, shouting “You’re it!” The girl laughed, chasing him for only another second before stopping. “Alright, you win…” The boy grinned triumphantly, spinning on one foot to walk back towards the table. As soon as he neared the girl, her mouth turned into a smirk. She pushed his shoulder lightly, shouting “You’re it!” The boy looked cheated as she sprinted off. “No fair!” He took off after her, followed by the sound of laughter. Serenity’s attention turned to the two adults. They were chuckling at the proceedings. Though they sat on opposite sides of the table, their hands were outstretched to each other, their hands resting together on the surface. Serenity smiled softly as she recognized the two as the parents of the children. Her thoughts wandered briefly back to her own boyfriend, and if they’d ever be able to hold hands again… “Those two never seem to tire, do they?” The man said. Since these two weren’t running around, Serenity could make out their details more clearly. The man had black, short hair, a few strands coming down over his forehead while the rest was combed back. His face was lightly bristled with stubble, yet there was a small bald patch just under his chin. Dimples rested on his cheeks, caused by the wide smile on his face. His eyes were bright blue, almost sparkling in the light. He wore basic clothing, jean-like pants and a white cotton shirt. The woman had long, wavy brown hair, her hair being a lighter shade of brown. Her eyes were chocolate brown, being full of light and happiness. She was wearing light brown leather clothes, tightly hugging to her body. She turned to the man as she spoke. “Well, they are our kids Eris.” The man, Eris, laughed, nodding. “So they are… HEY!” He shouted, getting the attention of the two kids. He waved them over, shouting “Let’s eat! I’m sure you’ve worked up an appetite by now!” The two walked over, the boy flicking his hand out to touch the girl before they split to take opposite sides of the table. “You’re it.” He mumbled. The girl stuck her tongue out at him as they sat down, the boy laughing. “Hey Tyler, make us some food will ya?” The boy waved away the request of his father, muttering “I was just about to!” He raised his hand towards the empty table, his hand glowing white for a moment. A flash of white light flickered on the table, leaving a small feast in its wake. There was an average dinner, a platter of rolls on the left, a plate with five stacked corn cobs on the right, and a large ham in the center. Plates, napkins and silverware had all appeared in front of each person, everything sitting perfectly arranged. Eris reached for the corn before pausing, looking at the boy. “What, forgot sticks to hold it?” The boy’s face turned annoyed. “Oh, come on dad! It took me long enough to get the silverware right. Just stab it or something.” The family burst into laughter, even Tyler after a short while. Eris attempted to stab a corn cob with his fork before the woman’s voice stopped him. “Ah ah, we haven’t said prayer yet…” Eris dropped his fork, the utensil landing back on the napkin as he pointed at her. “Right you are!” He held his hand out welcomingly to her, along with Tyler on his right. The each took it, the girl reaching out to hold her mother’s and Tyler’s as well. All four of their eyes closed and they bowed they heads in unison. Serenity rolled her eyes, expecting the usual chant, but no words were spoken. Instead, a small sphere of magic appeared in between them, about a meter above the table. It was pure white, and began to hum as it spun slowly. As it spun, it flattened, and after a few seconds it burst, sending small sparkles of magic everywhere. Eris opened his eyes, releasing the others’ hands. “Alright! Let’s dig in!” Serenity watched as the sparkles fell to the ground. Her eyes widened when the ground seemed to bath in the light, the grass growing greener and even the air becoming fresher. Her eyes followed each change until she noticed something out of the ordinary. It was just a shadow, yet it was in the middle of a small field of grass, where nothing could have made it. Serenity squinted, looking for anything that could make a shadow. The shadow itself shimmered and flickered, as if whatever was making it wasn’t quite physical. After a few moments of peering, Serenity noticed a faint outline standing amongst the grass. She couldn’t make out quite what it was, but it appeared to be shimmering. After a moment, it faded. None of the family seemed to notice the strange occurrence, so Serenity shrugged, assuming it was part of their ritual. As she turned back towards the small family, she saw the same outline floating above the table, directly above the young boy. Against the pure blue background of the sky, she could see that it resembled a man in the way it stood, yet the similarities stopped there. Before she could make out more, it fell, disappearing into Tyler. Serenity was about to pass the whole thing off when she noticed the boy’s eyes fly open. His head rose, looking around. Serenity gasped as she stumbled onto the hard ground. “Oy! Watch where yer walkin’!” She heard a gruff voice behind her. She quickly staggered to her feet to allow a gruff looking dwarf to walk by. She was back in Stormwind, on a cobblestone street on the opposite side of town from where she vanished. Tylron was nowhere to be seen, she had appeared alone. She glanced around quickly before walking off, intent on going directly to Quill to tell him what had happened. Serenity walked into the inn, spotting Quill and Kyli in their usual corner. She briskly walked over to them, Quill noticing her footsteps and waving to her. He grabbed a small sheet of paper on the table and raised it out to her, his mouth ready to speak when she cut him off. “I need to talk to you.” His mouth hung open for a moment before it closed, his eyes looking exasperated. He leaned over the table, kissing Kyli on the cheek. He murmured a few words to her before standing up, the piece of paper disappearing into his satchel. He stepped towards Serenity, who took the hint and quickly turned around, heading towards the stairs. In her room, Serenity sighed, falling face first on her bed. “Ughhu… What time is it…” She asked, muffled by the sheets. “It’s almost five in the afternoon, what happened?” Serenity groaned. “I found him at 4:50…” And it took me ten minutes to walk here. When did I have time to be there? Quill went silent. When his voice returned, it was laced with slight fear. “You… found him?” Serenity pushed herself off the bed, turning around and sitting down. Quill was leaning against the door, possibly listening for spies. “I found him in an alleyway, and I think he was about to suck someone else in. I found him, and told him to send me back…” She trailed off. “And how did that turn out?” Quill asked. Serenity shuddered slightly. “He told me he could kill me just as easy, and proved it by disintegrating a trash can.” Quill sighed, closing his eyes and hanging his head down over his chest. “Yea, I thought he would react that way. He seemed to when I contacted him.” Serenity looked up at him. “He turned and started to disappear again, but I blinked and grabbed him. I vanished with him.” Quill’s eyes snapped open, looking up at her. “You did what?! Are you mad?” He asked, disbelief in his voice. Serenity shrugged. “I didn’t see him afterwards, it took me to a weird place. I watched a family playing and then eating dinner.” Quill raised an eyebrow. “Did they see you?” Serenity shook her head. “No, it was like I wasn’t there. But they were in this world, because the boy was a mage. He conjured their dinner.” Quill laughed. Serenity looked at him questioningly. He waved away her unanswered question, explaining himself, “I just always thought that when mages conjure food, they really take if from somewhere else. And I thought of the ogre who got really pissed when that happened.” Serenity couldn’t help but smile in return. “Well, no, this meal was more sophisticated for an ogre. Hell, I don’t even think I could make something that complicated. It had rolls, a fully cooked ham, corn on the cob, silverware, napkins… I think the platters were even silver, but I’m not sure.” Quill’s eyes widened. “That’s a pretty hefty meal for a mage. And you said a boy made that?” Serenity nodded. Quill whistled, saying “That’s one powerful mage. I wonder who he’ll grow up to be?” Mentioning that made Serenity remember what happened. “During the meal I… I saw something.” Quill raised an eyebrow at her, wordlessly asking for more information. “I couldn’t tell what it was… it was wispy, like a spirit, but I could see it. It stood in the grass for a little bit, and then it appeared above the boy. It fell, and the boy looked up, and then I was back here.” Quill raised a hand to his chin, rubbing it thoughtfully. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that. Spirits are usually defined, you know what they are. What could you see?” “Well, it looked like an outline. It was… maybe dark purple in color, but it was really faint. When it appeared above the boy, it stood up like a human, but it didn’t really look like one… and that’s all I saw.” Quill shrugged, dropping his hand. “Well, you don’t even know where it was, so we can’t help the kid, whoever he is. Besides, you’re after Tylron, and all you found out is that he can kill you and isn’t going to be persuaded easily. You might have to give up…” Serenity shook her head furiously. “No! I will not give up!” Quill sighed, reaching into his pouch. “Well, could you perhaps give up for a day or two? My wedding is tomorrow, and I’d like to have you there, if you don’t mind…” He held out the small piece of paper to her, Serenity smiling softly. She reached out and took it, nodding. “Of course I will. See you there…” Quill took the hint and turned to leave, opening the door and closing it behind him. Serenity sighed, pressing her hand to her forehead. Will I have to give up…? The light pitter patter of raindrops began to enter the room as they fell onto the window.
