Shing Jea’s tall walls came into view and Keba tensed a little. The fact that Raze would still be skulking about made him reluctant to go anywhere with large crowds but they needed supplies and Shing Jea would have all they needed, looking over he caught sight of Hadrian the necromancer hadn’t tried to run anymore so he took that as a good sign. “Stay close alright, wouldn’t want to lose you in the crowd” he joked giving Hadrian a smile.
Feeling uneasy again Hadrian side stepped closer to Keba not overly thrilled that he was once again in Shing Jea. Looking around at the crowds and venders Hadrian suddenly remembered something, turning around quickly to get Keba’s attention “hey!” reaching out to touch his arm he quickly pulled back when Keba turned to look at him “yes?” Hadrian looked a little uncertain for a moment before looking off towards a small building with really large stairs “I was wondering …if I could go do something while you were getting the supplies?” he lightly glared when Keba gave him a suspicious look “I’m not- it’s nothing like that!” he huffed and crossed his arms appearing to pout. Keba couldn’t help but smile at the rather cute pout Hadrian gave him “meet me by the gate in twenty minutes or I’m going to come looking for you, and Hadrian… watch your back okay” Unfolding his arms, the thin necromancer just nodded giving a soft hum showing that he heard him. Hadrian started to make his way up to the building he was eyeing ever since they walked through the gates. Ducking in and out of the shadows, sticking close to the wall and trying to stay out of sight, he finally came up to a rather small house that was set up pretty high off the ground by a large set of stairs. Getting close to the smallest step, Hadrian had to jump a few times before he could get a good hold and pull himself up that first step, the others were much easier. “How the hell does she get up here every day?” he asked softly to no one in particular, stepping closer to the small blue door he knocked softly three times, from somewhere inside he heard what sounded like a low growl the some scuffling noises, “Ha-Hadrian?” a timed female voice whispered just beyond the door, “yes, it’s me, I came ba-“ but before he could finish the door was yanked open and he was grabbed by dainty claws and dragged inside, gasping in surprise at being nearly tossed in the floor he had no time to recover as a blur of bright orange and white fur came crashing into him, knocking him backwards and the breath right out of his chest. “he really missed you!” came a soft and cheerfully voice behind him, as he tilted his head back he could see a petit pale girl wearing a dark blue dress with matching armor, she had short silver hair pulled up into two tiny tails at the side of her head, she had a sweet smile on her small, heart shaped face as well as three deep read scars running over her left eye and down to her check. “Hey, it’s good to see you again” she beamed then her look turning into a pout “I was so worried I thought you died or something!” Hadrian just turned away and pushed the huge hairball that was Basil, a bangle tiger that Hadrian had tamed. Pushing Basil back some and standing up Hadrian looked away from the petit necromancer “…I met someone…” he said quietly, “what you did! So that’s where you were all this time?” Hadrian blushed “n-no it’s not like that Yoko!” Yoko just smiled coyly “or is it~” she said in a sing song tone. “NO! it’s not!” he huffed and wondering how much he should really tell her “besides…he’s an assassin” at that short sentence Yoko’s mind went into high-speed “oh so it’s a he! Wai-what! What do you mean assassin!” After a lot of yelling and panic, all on Yoko’s part, Hadrian finally calmed the girl down, after explaining all that had happened in the past few days Yoko was in a bit of a foul mood. “I swear if he hurts you again I’m gunna-“she didn’t finish as she gripped her small dagger that she always carried, “it’s going to be ok, I’m sorry I worried you” he reached out and touched the pale girl’s hand, looking down in surprise Yoko noticed Hadrian was being more touchy feely that normal “well he must be doing some good for you” Hadrian pulled his hand back glaring at her as she giggled “You don’t have to say it like that” She smiled as she stood up and walked over to the window to peek out “…so are you here for Basil then?” she asked while scanning the area for threats, “yeah I hope that’s ok” Hadrian walked over to the door getting ready to leave, he figured Keba would be done and looking for him by now, “yeah its fine, I would rather he be with you than him being with me and me here alone thinking you had gone off to die” Hadrian stared at her wide eyed “what you didn’t think I knew? I’m your friend Hadrian I could see the signs” Hadrian looked away as Yoko reached out for his hand “Just…promise me that you not hanging around that assassin just to…” she trialed off and looked away for a few seconds then after a bit she looked up and gave Hadrian the brightest smile she could “just stay safe ok!” Hadrian felt guilty but pushed that feeling back and nodded “I will” Yoko knelt down to hug the clam tiger “and you take care of him ok, you big kitty” After soft parting words Hadrian and Basil left Yoko’s hiding place, as he made his way back down to look for Keba, Yoko watched from her small window “Take care Hadrian” she whispered to the now empty air. **** Catching sight of Hadrian’s now familiar face Keba headed for him only to pause at the sight of a large bangle tiger padding silently beside the thin man, he hadn’t expected the thing Hadrian had to do to be fetching a tiger, moving forward again Keba greeted them “I take it your business was a success” looking down at the tiger, Keba couldn’t help but think of the large tiger that always seemed to show up when he needed help the most “so who’s your friend” Looking down Hadrian used his sharp nails to scratch behind the large cats ears “this is Basel” at hearing his name Basel purred very loudly and rubbed on Hadrian’s thigh “he was staying with a friend of mine because of…” he stopped himself Basel looked up to see why his owner had stopped petting and scratching him. “Anyway did you get everything?” he tried to change the subject quickly. Keba caught the change in subject but didn’t mention it, instead he settled his pack and offered Hadrian a satchel of food “yep this should last until we reach the harbor we’ll restock there then catch a boat to the island, if there is nothing else you need to do here in town we can leave” Sighing a tiny bit and taking the offered pack, he gave the tiniest of smiles before walking in the directions of the gates “yeah let’s leave” Hadrian whispered as Basel lumbered behind him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tossing another stick onto the fire Keba looked at the pair across the fire, Hadrian sat with Basil’s head in his lap, his thin fingers scratching behind the tiger’s ears lazily, and he smiled “the two of you get along well” Hadrian seemed a lot calmer now that Basil was with him “hmmm…yeah he is like my family we have been together for years” he said quietly as he ran his fingers over Basil’s head “Keba…were you always an assassin? I mean was it something you were born into or was it just something you wanted to do?” Keba studied the fire “I was born to the life of a farmer but as I grew up I began to get tired of the quiet and the solitude, so I left to train with the assassin’s in Shing Jea, I learned pretty fast and was offered a place in the Tempest order, I had planned on turning them down since my training would have taken me so far from home but after… I wanted to get as far away as I could” poking at the fire Keba asked “and you, how did you come to be a necromancer?” Hadrian watched Keba stir the fire “I was born a cursed monster, after I was born my mother tried to kill me but my grandmother, who is also a necromancer, took me away and raised me till I could survive on my own.” He paused at the small memory of his dear grandmother “she taught me the dark arts” he turned ice-white eyes to Keba “why do you not hate me?” he didn’t mean for that to slip out but while he was at it, shaking his head he gave a small bitter laugh and raising his hands palm up to look at the sharp tips “just look at what an awful monster I have grown up to be.” Standing Keba walked around the fire and sat down beside Hadrian “I think you put too much faith in the negative things people say about you” reaching out he took one of Hadrian’s hands and studied the sharp nails “I don’t think you’re a monster” Slipping his hand out of Keba’s, Hadrian looked blandly off to the side “if you say so” getting up and carefully moving Basil out of his lap, he moved over to where a lone sakura tree was growing rather close to their campfire, Basil followed his beloved owner and friend, seeing Hadrian sitting down Basil settled himself to lay around the smaller man, Hadrian smiled softly at his beautiful tiger reaching out to stroke his colorful fur, closing his eyes he called out “goodnight Keba” then burring his face in Basil’s coat to hid his small blush. Copying Hadrian’s good night Keba settled down by the fire so he could keep an eye on Hadrian and the fire at the same time. The early morning was cooler than the day before; the sun was just starting to turn the sky and a few clouds pink and purple. A gentle morning breeze scattered a few sakura petals through the air, the sound of footsteps trying, and failing, to be quiet as they moved through the grass and bamboo, had Keba opening his eyes, his senses on high alert, he looked across the coals of the fire expecting to see Hadrian trying to make an escape, but the sight of the thin man still sound asleep set Keba on edge. Years of training brought his attention back to the footsteps and he realized he could hear more than one set of feet. Moving very slowly he reached for his daggers as the footsteps spread out and Keba realized they were forming a lose circle. Glancing back to Hadrian and Basle he thought about waking them when suddenly a man dressed in black and red cloths emblazoned with a crimson skull and armed with a sword stepped from the trees and moved toward Hadrian, Keba made a split second decision, throwing one of his daggers at the armed man he shouted. “HADRIAN!” Both Hadrian and Basil bolted up as the man staggered, looking up to see Keba’s dagger buried in the attacker’s chest. Hadrian was stunned for a moment not sure what was happening but he was quickly snapped out of it when Basil lunged past him and took down another crimson skull bandit. Keba sensed another presence and rolled out of the way just as the man, who’d been trying to sneak up behind him, slashed down with his sword. The sting as the blade bit into his arm, was telling him he hadn’t been quite fast enough. springing to his feet his second dagger raised in defense, Keba faced off another man dress in black and red with the same crimson skull emblazoned on the left sleeve of his shirt, the sound of three other people rushing into their clearing made Keba grimace this was shaping up to be a terrible morning. As Basil tore into the neck of another bandit, Hadrian used his deathly swarm to finish off three men that were heading towards Keba, starting to feel the drain on his health; his eyes darted around wildly looking for his next target. Spotting a crimson skull hiding near the trees he rushed over and dodging his attacks and grabbed him around the neck with his claws lifting him in the air, he used his vampire gaze to literary suck the life out of the man. The rush of new life and energy felt like a welcome breeze on a hot day, dropping the corpse of the bandit, the young necromancer could now summon his favorite friends. Dodging to the side Keba focused on his two opponents, he caught a glimpse of Hadrian arching back and floating a foot above the ground. Blades clashed as each of the bandits did their best to run him through, a tingling numbness was working its way out from the cut on his arm and Keba realized the bandits had poisoned their blades quickly he called out a warning to Hadrian. Hadrian felt the surge of power run through him as he called forth his bone horrors, every corpse around the camp site started to twitch and morph as the skeletons were ripped from the dead flesh and twisted into a new shape, two-tailed and headless the new creatures jumped into action quickly kicking and slashing at the few bandits that were left. Hadrian had heard Keba’s warning and kept a close eye on Basel making sure his beloved friend and pet was not in danger. Keba grimaced as the poison worked its way through his body the pounding of his heart causing it to spread faster, seeing an opening Keba lunged forward driving his dagger through the bandits chest, jerking back as the man fell Keba lost his grip on the dagger, his hand going numb, bellowing Keba’s remaining opponent charged at him sword raised, throwing himself to the side Keba rolled into a crouch only to drop to his knees his body to numb to move, the bandit laughed, a sound of satisfied cruelty, and raised his sword over his head, Keba braced himself. A fierce growl brought Keba’s head up just as a large bangle tiger sprang from the brush, fangs and razor sharp claws made quick work of the bandit and shortly after Keba found himself face to face with the powerful bangle tiger, it’s orange fur was darker then Hadrian’s tiger Basil and there was a notch cut into its left ear, Keba tilted his head “you have amazing timing Kishi”. At the sound of a Tiger’s roar and very sure it wasn’t Basil, Hadrian spun around just in time to see the huge beast take down a man that was just about to lop off Keba’s head, he noticed Keba had a gash on his arm and fearing that the strong assassin was poisoned, quickly rushed to his side. “Ke-Keba!” Hadrian felt ice run up and down his spine at the thought of something happening to his new found friend, “what happened? What can I do to help?” suddenly feeling another set of eyes on him, he looked up only to come face to face with another fiercer looking tiger. Keba shook his head “I wasn’t quite fast enough, there blades were coated with poison, I’m partially immune to this variety but the numbing effect is harder to resist, I have a potion in my pack that should help neutralize the poison but I’m not going to be able to do much for about an hour or two” noting Kishi’s menacing stance he gave the big tiger a light pat “relax you big kitty, Hadrian’s not going to hurt me he’s a friend”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
