Chapter 6
Daniel soaked in the bathtub, eyes half closed, but mindful not to fall asleep. He didn't want a repeat of the last time. John insisted he take a few days of rest from the stress. He wanted to object, but John had been adamant on the issue. In the end, he relented and agreed, deciding it best to take time to refresh his mind and body. He'd be of more use if he wasn't completely exhausted, and he felt it now. The lack of sleep and the remains of the nightmare were still with him. He shuddered to think that maybe he was losing his mind. He didn't want to go down that dark path again.
The hot coals were keeping the water in the tub hot, but it was time to leave the comfort of it. He dried and dressed in simple clothes for his day of relaxation. He yearned to sleep, and he knew it would take him in time, but he feared he would be returned to that place of horrors again. His reflection stared back at him, his exhaustion obvious as dark circles shadowed his lids. This couldn't continue. He hoped that bearing his soul to John as he had would stop the torment inside of him. It was all that he could hope for.
The maid bowed to him as he left the bathroom and she went in to clean up after him. For once he was happy to let her do it. He wandered to the bedroom to see she had cleaned up, made his bed and removed all of the used candles. He was disappointed she hadn't replaced them with new ones. The bed looked inviting, but he walked to the window instead to peek out, blinking against the bright day. The sky was clear and blue, sun high and reflecting against the blanket of white that covered the ground. The light was so brilliant that it made his head ache and his eyes water, but it was much too beautiful to look away from.
Daniel spotted John near the stables, talking to a man he didn't recognize. It wasn't one of the workers or servants, and he didn't appear to be anyone he knew from town either. Perhaps it was a delivery man, but it seemed unlikely with the thick fall of snow. He watched them converse and took note of John pointing towards the unfinished mansion. Daniel kept up his observation, his curiosity getting the better of him. John appeared a little angry and the other man nodded, hands up in defense. He wondered what was going on, but he also felt like he was snooping the longer he watched. It's not like he could hear what was being said, but it somehow felt intrusive just the same.
When John looked up towards the house and spotted him, Daniel gasped and let the curtain slip closed as he backed away from the window. He didn't understand why he felt so nervous over nothing. It was probably nothing more than his exhaustion playing with his emotions. He sat on the bed and rubbed his eyes, feeling the beginning of a headache coming on. He had to get some sleep before he started started to feel worse. The last thing he wanted was to get sick and not be of use at all. He put the stranger out of his mind and decided it wasn't of importance as far as he was concerned anyway.
He lay down, not even bothering to pull back the blankets. The maid had added wood to the fire and it was comfortably warm in the room. He listened to the soft popping of embers, the sound hypnotic. He lay there for a while, watching the fire burn, unable to make his eyes close. Flashes of the nightmare tormented him. Daniel shuddered and wondered if this would ever end. He just wanted his life back again, before he had found that cursed orb. It was over, yet he was unable to rid himself of the lingering horrors even now. Even John's presence only helped so much with his uneasiness, and he was beginning to feel more like a burden everyday. He couldn't go on like this forever.
Daniel tiredly sat up on the edge of the bed, deciding sleep would have to wait. He got up to dress warmer for a walk outside. He needed to do something instead of letting his mind wander on his troubles, and it wasn't helping his state of mind. He pulled on his boots and headed downstairs quickly, grabbing his coat off the rack before the maid could even come over to help. He waved her away and stepped out into the brisk morning and took a deep breath. He no longer saw John or the stranger by the barn, but didn't pay it much mind. If anything it was probably business and John really didn't need him around to get in the way of that.
He went down the steps and walked towards the field. He began to question his decision for a stroll when the snow reached his knees and higher in some spots the further he went. He kept up his trek though, thinking it was better than sitting in the house trying to forget. Maybe the cold air would be more successful for that. He looked towards the foundation of the mansion and sighed. It made him wonder why John had not waited until spring, but he never questioned it. It wasn't his place to. He changed direction and walked that way to have a look. His breath came out in cloudy puffs and he shivered with the chill, but he felt more awake now at least.
Daniel stopped along the edge of the foundation and looked over the snowy area, most the wood and rock covered with a white blanket of the cold stuff. He continued on around the structure, looking off towards the trees that were bare and skeletal. It was a sad sight, and in truth he did prefer spring. He always liked the new life of blooms and grass and how the trees filled out each season. He walked towards the treeline and trudged through into the woods, mindful not to stray too far. He just wanted to get out of the confines of the house for a while and to be away from the servants. He wasn't sure where John disappeared to, but figured he was busy anyway, so he walked, slowly clearing his mind as well as he could.
His head was still aching some, but the fresh air seemed to be helping. He moved along, aware that his feet and legs were starting to feel the cold more intensely now. He wouldn't stay out much longer, but he wanted to explore a bit more before turning back. He looked back, still able to see the house beyond in the distance. He moved through the bare trees, gloved hand running over the dead bark of a few he passed. It felt so peaceful out here. He moved along for a bit, grabbing up snow to ball up and throw. He chuckled a bit, thinking back to how long it had been since he played in snow. It had been years ago as a child. He and Hazel had often played before she had gotten too ill to do so. His eyes softened as he thought of his sister. He missed her dearly, but he hoped she was in a better place now since her death.
Daniel sighed, suddenly losing his interest in exploring any further. It was probably best he get back anyway before he froze to death. He looked back the way he had come and went still. He couldn't have possibly walked so far. He couldn't see the farm anymore, only endless woods that he just now noticed had become considerably darker. The sun that had been partly shining was now clouded over and the sky appeared angry as if another blizzard was approaching. He looked at the tracks he'd left and decided it best to just follow them back. He didn't much like the prospect of getting lost in the woods on such a cold day. He started his trek back, following his own trail, but he couldn't help but feel anxious.
His anxiety increased as he walked along. He was keeping on the trail, but the trees were not opening up to show him his destination that should be easy to see by this point. He stopped a moment and took a breath. He just walked further than he meant to, that was all. He looked up and it was darker still, clouds rolling like waves in the sky. He looked back at the trail, only to see what looked like newly fallen snow. The tracks had vanished as if he hadn't walked through here at all. He whimpered and closed his eyes tight. Was he dreaming again? Was he safely in bed at this moment? That had to be it. This couldn't be happening. He chanced another look, and the sight before him was cold, unwelcoming and slowly losing light as he stood there.
The silence of the woods pressed around him, so heavy that he felt as if he couldn't move his feet. He gasped for breath, wildly looking around him for a way out of this. Something snapped behind him some distance, like a branch giving way and he turned his head to see nothing but miles of dark woods. He held his breath and listened, eyes squinting to see any trace of movement within the trees. It was then that he heard the one sound he never wanted to hear again as long as he lived. The unmistakable growl of a grunt. He heard another snap and that broke his paralysis. He ran in the direction he thought he had come from just to get distance between himself and the monster that hunted him.
It was hard going in the thick fall of snow, but he pushed himself forward, moving through the trees with as much speed as he could muster. Something tripped him up under the snow, perhaps a loose root, but his panic stricken mind imagined a clawed demonic hand reaching up to pull him down into Hell. He screamed and pushed himself up out of the cold snow and staggered forward, getting his footing once more as he gasped raggedly for breath. The sounds grew closer, but he wouldn't look back, keeping his eyes forward, hoping beyond hope he would see freedom ahead. The dark was denser now as if night had fallen hours early. He feared he would never see the sun again as he struggled to escape the clutches of the woods around him, aware that the monster behind him was getting far too close, it's groans vicious and eager.
"Stay away from me, you bastard! Stay away!" He saw a light ahead. Yes, windows alight in the farmhouse, closer, but so far to go. He could make it, he had to make it. His lungs burned and his side cramped from his effort, but his legs were strong, and he kept running, making his way through the treacherous snow. He yelled when he felt the sting of a swipe on his back, the claws catching him even through his thick coat. He was going to die here, not even understanding how it happened. He cried out and pushed on in one last effort to escape, breaking through the trees into the open field. Something grabbed him and he was yelling again, fighting, kicking and throwing his arms to get free in a blind panic.
"Daniel, calm yourself!" John's arms tightened around him more.
"J..John?" Daniel, gasping, looked wildly around them and saw the sun was back and that they were standing just at the edge of the woods. He yelped and staggered from John's grips, yanking on his arm to get him to follow. "Stay away from the woods!"
"Daniel, what has gotten you in such a panic?!"
"Please, John. We've got to get away... It got me..my back, see?" He turned to show him.
"Daniel, there's nothing wrong, you're fine." His hand touched his shoulder. "I heard you yelling and I ran this way. You were running through the trees as if the devil himself was at your heels."
"Maybe he was," he said, voice cracking. He clung to John when he hugged him close, trembling uncontrollably. "I think I really am going mad."
Daniel, you're just shaken up a bit after the last few days." He cupped his face and looked in his eyes. "Come inside to rest and warm up."
Daniel relented, wanting desperately to be away from the thick of trees. He kept looking back over his shoulder, expecting to see a monstrosity come out in pursuit, but it was all quiet and serene. He just didn't know what to trust anymore, but he leaned against John as a pillar of strength as they made their way back to the house. John was always there for him. He needed him so much. When they got inside, the maid rushed over to get coats and boots. Daniel just numbly accommodated her, still in too much shock to ever really look at her as she went about the task. John said a few words to her, but Daniel wasn't hearing them as he trembled, playing over what happened in his mind, trying to rationalize it. Could he have imagined the whole thing?
"Daniel?"
"Hm?" He looked at John.
"Come sit and have a drink."
Daniel nodded and followed, confused as to why they were going upstairs instead of the sitting room, but he didn't ask as they went up. John led Daniel to his bedroom door, a place Daniel had yet to be in since moving in the farmhouse. He was let inside the room that was a bit more spacious than his own. The curtains were closed against the bright day giving it a dim look. There was also a fireplace going there as well to keep the room warm. His numb feet and hands were coming back to life with dull aches. He was glad to be alive at all to feel it. Yet being so close to John made what happened in those woods seem more and more unlikely. He was tired and had that strange nightmare, and after talking about his ordeal with John all night, perhaps it was his own mind seeing things that weren't really there.
Daniel took a few steps towards the inviting fire and heard the distinct click of the lock on the door and looked back. John smiled soft to him, reassuring and warm as he walked to his desk where a bottle of whiskey was waiting with glasses. Daniel sat by the fire, noting that the bottom half of his trousers were soaked from melted snow. He didn't complain and figured the heat of the fire would have them dry soon enough. He was offered a full glass and took it gratefully, taking a deep drink, letting the warm burn of the alcohol warm him. Before he knew it the glass was empty and John was pouring him more.
He looked up and was struck with how handsome John was. The firelight lit up his strong features and made his dark hair shine. It made Daniel wonder what John could possibly see in him. He didn't think himself ugly, but he wasn't near the vision John was. That topped off with his past and mental state would make anyone else run in the other direction, yet John stayed beside him, only getting closer as the days passed. John smiled soft and cupped his cheek, thumb brushing soft over his skin, then running it over his lips. Daniel's lips parted and he gasped when John smirked and eased his thumb into his mouth. He timidly slid his tongue over the digit and sucked, feeling his cheeks burn as he looked up at John.
"I love how you manage to look so innocent while you're doing that, Daniel," he said, voice low and husky. "Come here." He gently urged Daniel up from the chair and pulled him into a kiss. Daniel groaned and let the glass slip from his fingers as he was crushed against John's body. He melted into the kiss, head spinning from the stress and alcohol, but all that started to melt away as John's tongue darted and rolled against his. He didn't want to talk about what happened anymore. He just wanted to feel, and he knew John must sense his need as well as his own.
He was eased back towards the end of the bed as the kiss intensified, just letting himself be seduced with no resistance this time whatsoever. He wanted all of John. Wanted to feel everything there was to feel. He was ready, and his worries for the time being vanished from his mind as he focused all he had on his lover. His shirt was stripped off before he was falling back against the bed. He looked up, panting for breath as John relieved himself of his own shirt before he crawled up and over his body, running his tongue up from his navel to his chin until they were locked into another passionate kiss. Daniel let his hands explore over John's chest and back, letting himself go completely with the pleasurable sensations.
His arousal throbbed with the friction between them, their groins grinding as he was teased through the rough fabric of their clothes. He gasped for John when his lips lowered once more to make their way down over his chest. He shivered with each caressing kiss and slide of his hot tongue over his skin. John was working his belt and trousers open. Daniel moaned and lifted his hips to help John pull them down along with his underwear. His cock stood erect and swayed with the motion of his body as John urged him back further on the bed until his head reached the pillows. John hovered over him, hand clasping his erection to stroke slow, thumb teasing the head with each upward motion.
"You can't imagine how long I've wanted this, Daniel," he said softly, voice full of lust. "Let me show you how much." He moved down then, mouth taking in the head of his cock and lower, sucking slowly up and down the shaft.
"Ah!" Daniel covered his mouth with his hand, fearing the others in the house would hear their passion, only to have John chuckle soft around his length, sending vibration's through his hard flesh. His tongue worked along with his lips as his head bobbed up and down, hand gripping the base, fingers brushing over his balls. Soon Daniel was too consumed with pleasure to care and his hand shifted down to touch John's hair as his hips began to thrust to his mouth, gasping heavy. He watched his lover engulfing his length, entranced by the sight of his lips spread wide around him. He whispered his name, resting his head back further on the pillows as his hips worked faster to the building pleasure.
Daniel felt so warm now, his body heating up more and more to his lover's attention. He had never enjoyed sex as fully as he was now, feeling as if every nerve ending was ablaze with pleasure as he let himself go with this sexual indulgence. He felt himself coming closer to release, spreading his legs with no resistance as John's hand pushed them open and over his shoulders, taking his cock deeper still. Daniel felt pressure around his anus and gasped out, jerking his hips with a nervous whimper as he looked down at John who's green eyes were intensely watching him. They were commanding, yet gentle at the same time. He trusted this man; wanted this man. Daniel made his body relax, opening his legs even more to invite him to continue.
John's finger pushed into him and Daniel groaned with the foreign sensation, feeling a strange mixture or pain and pleasure. The slight pressure and pain only seemed to magnify everything else he was feeling. His body went still as he lay there gasping, letting John manipulate his body as he wished. He was almost too frightened to move, and even that turned him on more, not knowing what to expect the further they went. He gripped the blanket beneath him, gritting his teeth when John began to push a second finger into him. The hot mouth moving over his cock kept him calm and relaxed as he was lusciously violated, his fingers thrusting slowly now inside of him.
"John," he whimpered when he felt his prostate touched, jerking his hips at the surprise rush of pleasure. His fingers scissored and worked, massaging over the source of his enjoyment until Daniel was once again gyrating to his mouth and moaning out, heedless of the loud pitch of his voice. His legs trembled and his back arched when he felt his body reaching climax. He moaned and John moaned with him, swallowing his release. Daniel lay there gasping, body going limp as he felt John's mouth leave him. He hissed when he gently pulled his fingers free, shyly looking down at him.
"Mn, did you enjoy it?" John asked, hands rubbing soft over his thighs that were still trembling.
"Yes," Daniel managed and as he lay there gasping.
"Good. I want you now. You won't say no, will you?" He shifted Daniel's leg off his shoulders as he stood off the bed to remove his trousers to free his erection.
"No," Daniel whispered and stared at what John had to offer. It was slightly bigger than his own, and he couldn't deny that he both wanted and feared it equally.
"I can see you trembling," he said as he walked slow around the bed to the side table. Daniel watched him open the drawer and pull out a small bottle of what looked like some kind of oil. "This will ease the discomfort," he promised with a soft smile and popped the cork, pouring some on his hand to coat is length with.
"What is it?"
"Just something I made up with a mixture of oils. It's quite safe and makes what I'm about to do more pleasurable."
Daniel reached to touch over his slick cock and felt his own jerking to life once more. He looked up at John and was pleased to see him enjoying the contact. John had already given him so much pleasure. He wouldn't make his lover wait any longer to receive the same. He lay all the way back again, hand reaching out to urge him on the bed with him. John smiled and got on to hovered above him, moving in between his open legs. He lowered and Daniel closed his eyes when he felt the head press to his opening, holding his breath for what was to come. John didn't hold back and pushed into him, covering his mouth with a deep kiss when he cried out with the painful entry.
Daniel melted into the kiss and forced himself to relax his lower region as John went still, letting Daniel's body adjust to this new experience. His hands explored over his sides and hips and between them to stroke his hardening cock. Daniel broke the kiss, panting hard and urging him soft to keep going, begging him to move as his hands reached to grip at his ass. He was still feeling some pain, but he wanted it. He needed to forget all the madness that seemed to be happening around him. His legs tightened around his body and he rocked to his thrusts, enjoying every sensation that rippled through his body.
He lost track of how long they made love, but the light in the room dimmed as they took pleasure in each other. John had much to teach him and he was a enthusiastic student, swimming in oceans of pleasure he had never known before. Their bodies swayed and gyrated together, building heat between them that nothing else could. He let his mind drift along with his body, wishing that this feeling could last for eternity, but something as good as this could only last for so long. He relished every caress and whispering word that passed between them until they finally lay still against each other. Only then was he able to let himself slip into sleep, embraced in his lovers arms.
