Dawn couldn't take the terrible pain she felt within her stomach any longer, coming to a quick stop a street or so away from her destination. She was determined to free Kid, willing to kill anyone that got in her way, especially Vince. Secretly, she had started to think of him as a little bit more than she had initially thought she ever would have. She wondered what he'd think of her scars, figuring he'd be disgusted by the mere sight of them, like she herself felt. After resting for a few minutes in another dark alleyway, she got up from her resting position, having been leaning against a wall, taking down the street in a jog. Ace rested away from the woman she was chasing, Penelope resting quietly beside her. When she saw her take off, she chased after her, making sure not to make herself seen.
Dawn finally reached the Detention Center around seven minutes later. The Detention Center was a large two-story building made entirely of concrete, the roof being completely flat. Parts of the building looks partially in ruin, but most of those destroyed areas were restored with whatever seemed to be at hand at that time, either being large broken shards of concrete or long slabs of reinforced tin sheeting. She slowed her movements, panting heavily with pain as she reached the front of the building. She pushed open the two double doors, one with each hand, walking into the building. She reached up to her chest and began to feel around the front of the torso armour, her breasts beginning to feel rather uncomfortable within the confines of the armour. She approached the front desk nearby, a young woman like her behind the counter. "Can I...Help you?" She asked, raising an eyebrow curiously as she sized up Dawn. Dawn smiled. "Yeah. There's someone here I want to see." The woman shook her head, saying "Sorry, but without the right credentials I can't just-"
Dawn cut her off by raising her submachine gun, pointing it directly into the woman's face. "Violence is a credential that never expires." She said with a dark smile. The woman gulped nervously and said "Who do y-you want to see?" Dawn smiled more and said "Most likely one of your newest residents. Showed up a day or so ago, I'm not sure how long I've been asleep for. A kid, looks maybe fourteen or fifteen. Short blonde hair, white cloths, sort of quiet, know who I'm talking about?" The woman nodded. "Oh yes, Vince has put quite a bit of attention on th-that one. I remember his room number, follow me, please..." She grabbed a key from the tabletop and began to walk off, Dawn close behind her, all the while pointing her gun at the woman's spine. She led Dawn up and down a few hallways before she stopped at a door marked "#295". She was about to put the key in the lock when Dawn asked "Is this his room?" The woman nodded. Dawn smashed the woman over the head with the butt of her mp5, knocking her out cold, her body crumpling to the ground. "You're lucky I don't kill you, normally I would, but in this case I might need the bullets." She grabbed the key from the floor, pushing it into the keyhole and turning.
She gripped the doorknob and twisted it, pulling the door open as she said "Kid?..." She pulled the door open all the way and spotted him standing by a bed built into the wall. She stepped in, grinning as she saw him. He smiled happily, rushing over to her and slipping his arms around her hips tightly. Dawn gasped in pain as she felt his body press her armour tighter against her painful scars and stitches, but she tried her best to ignore, happy that Kid was in her arms once more. She hugged him back, closing her eyes and smiling as his face pressed against her chest. A few moments later Dawn said "Listen, we really need to leave, like, right now." Kid nodded, releasing her. He held her left hand with his right, the two of them walking out of his room. Heading back to the front doors, Dawn spotted someone down the hall. A girl, maybe a year older than Kid. She watched them with wide eyes. With her was a large mutated wolf-dog. Dawn never flinched, gripping Kid's hand with her left and her mp5 in her right.
Ace saw the woman she had been following quickly walk down the hall towards her, holding hands with a teenage boy, seemingly around her own age. She gripped an mp5 in her right hand, Ace's grip on her sawed-off shotgun growing tighter instinctively. When Dawn got close enough for her normal speaking voice to be easily picked up, she called out "Are you one of Vince's men?" Ace shook her head, saying "I'd never work for a dick like him, not after the trouble he gave me and my mates in the past." Dawn came closer with Kid, walking past her, heading down the hallway. "If you're just some curious city-goer wondering what's going on, then get the fuck out of my way and stay that way." Ace turned around and followed Dawn once more. "Hey, the city guards are after me, too. I saw the guy with the environmental mask, Vince, shoot at you. He started shooting at me, too. I don't know about you, but to someone like me, that means we have a common enemy. A wise man once said that if you seek the enemy of your enemy, you'll find a friend. I followed you to team up, better odds of survival." Dawn made a sound of annoyance and perhaps a bit of disgust. "You followed me all the way from the hospital? Ugh!" Ace raised her left eyebrow, wondering what the young woman's problem was.
Ace kept following her regardless of her attitude. "I'm Ace, by the way." Dawn didn't look at her and neither did Kid. "My dog is named Penelope, in case you were wondering." Dawn looked at Ace through the corner of her eyes. She let out a gentle and almost apologetic sigh. "I'm...Dawn. This is Kid." Ace nodded. "Just checking, you guys are getting out of the city, right?" Dawn nodded, the group going around a corner in the hallway. "I was planning on it, yeah." Ace looked over at her. "Just making it clear, I want to go with you guys." Dawn looked over and gave Ace a look. She kept walking with Kid, Ace following with Penelope as they reached the front doors of the Detention Center, stepping outside. Ace raised her left hand almost immediately, urgently saying "Look!" Dawn's eyes narrowed to slits as she saw Vincent rushing towards them Detention Center with at least twenty armed guards. Dawn pulled Kid along, heading around the Detention Center's back side.
Ace lingered and fired the two loaded shells of her sawed-off in the direction of the approaching guards, the guards being much too far to be hit by the spreading pellets, but some of them were foolish enough to scatter regardless, Vince roaring at them to get back into formation. Ace quickly ran after Dawn and Ace, saying "My friends and I kept a campsite just a few hours from here. It'll be some time in the early morning if we keep moving and never stop when we reach there." Dawn nodded. "Alright, lead the way." Ace walked quicker than Dawn and Kid, leading the group to her campsite, Penelope keeping up with her. Ace began to reload her shotgun, glancing behind herself, looking forward once more.
Vince rushed around the Detention Center's back side, seeing the group flee into the wasteland. A guard looked over at him, raising his bolt-action hunting rifle in the group's direction. "Captain, should we go after them or open fire?" Vince shook his head gently, raising a hand to the top of the man's rifle, over the barrel, lowering his weapon slightly. "No...Don't bother. I'd rather send regulators after her than actually chase her into the wasteland. Let them go for now." The guard nodded, passing the word along to the rest of the men to stand down. Vince gritted his teeth. "Bitch...I'll have your head on my fucking mantle before this is all over, I swear!" A guard approached him. "Sir, what are your next orders?" Vince looked over at him, being snapped out of his inner rage by the man's words. "Everyone can do as they please for the rest of the night. I want everyone rested and ready for the deal with the Enclave tomorrow, there can't be any fuck-ups." The guard nodded, everyone leaving the area.
For several hours, Dawn, Kid, Ace, and Penelope all quickly walked out into the wasteland, never stopping for any sort of breaks or rests. As the sun slowly began to rise on the horizon, ace's camp finally came into view. Ace smiled as they all walked onto the site, Ace collapsing onto a bed rest on the ground. The camp consisted of three mattresses on the floor, along with several packs of supplies by one of them. None of the mattresses really had anything to hoist the mattresses up on. Each mattress had blankets and pillows though, so everything was okay in the trio's eyes. Kid quickly lay down on one, a soft groan coming from him. Dawn lay down on the bed beside him, stinging tears in her eyes over the throbbing pain in her stomach. "Ace..." She said painfully. "Do you have any Med-X around here?..." Ace nodded slowly, saying "One dose, why?" Dawn bit her bottom lip hard, trying to hide her horrible pain from her voice. "Can I have it, please?" Ace looked over, her exhaustion clear in her voice. "Why?" She asked. Kid looked to the side and saw the suffering on Dawn's face, her hands gently shaking while touching the armour she wore over her stomach, a few drops of blood trickling out of it and into the mattress beneath them. "J-Just give it t-to her!" He said, almost stuttering.
Ace nodded, reaching into a small bag near her bed for a few moments. She fished around inside and pulled out something small a few moments later. She quickly walked over to their bed, handing a small object to Dawn. It was a small, thin needle, gray in colour. The plunger was pulled out to show that it was full of the substance within. The inside of the needle was almost completely unviewable, the gray of the needle covering all but a small section of it. The fluid inside was a light yet deep shade of blue, almost colourless in appearance. Dawn immediately jammed it into her left forearm, pushing the plunger down all the way. She pulled the needle away from herself, cooing with contentment a moment later as she dropped it to the ground beside her. Her face was no longer full of pain, no more blood droplets slipping out of her armour. She sighed happily. "Thank you..." She murmured to Ace. Ace nodded with a raised eyebrow, walking back over to her bed and lying down on it, pulling the sheets over herself. Kid reached over and gently placed his hand on Dawn's stomach, on her armour.
Dawn, no longer feeling sensitive to pain, smiled at him and placed her left hand on his. "Remember when the pigrat attacked me?" She asked. Kid nodded gently. Ace rolled over in her bed. Dawn got up on the bed on her knees, saying "Well...I don't know how I'm gonna prepare you for this, so I'll just come right out and show you..." She reached up to her chest and began to remove her armour, pulling off the torso part of the armour, revealing her large breasts and the few new scars that adorned them, placing her hands over her chest so she was covering her nipples. Kid's face remained blank. Dawn slowly removed her hands, fully showing herself off, the entirety of her surgical stitches and scars revealed to Kid, Dawn looking away to the side sadly. Kid raised his left hand, gently touching Dawn's stomach, feeling along her gently. Kid fully rested his palm against her while raising his right hand to her left breast, softly feeling along her, running his fingers across her nipple slightly. Dawn looked over at him just as he got up and brought his face closer to her's, kissing her passionately. Dawn was surprised, but she slowly placed her hands on the sides of his chest, closing her eyes and kissing him back. They kept kissing for a few minutes until Dawn finally pulled away from him slowly. "So...Are you fine with the way I look now?...My stomach is all..." Kid continued her sentence, softly saying without stutter "Beautiful...It's all soft and beautiful..." Dawn blushed lightly.
"Liar, the scars are nasty and I still have cuts and stitches down there!..." Kid smiled. "It's okay..." He said in a hushed tone. Dawn kept looking into his eyes for a few minutes before she suddenly embraced him in a tight hug, her large breasts pushing into his chest. Her eyes shut tight, she remained quiet for a few minutes as they hugged. She suddenly whispered "Thank you, I..." She sighed softly. "I really needed to hear that from someone, and coming from you, it means a lot..." Kid blushed, smiling a little as he wrapped his arms tight around Dawn, whispering in a barely audible voice "Don't mention it...A-All I said was the truth..." Dawn blushed softly, squeezing him in her arms with a happy smile. A few minutes later they released each other slowly. Kid, feeling a bit shy now, gently held one of Dawn's hands in one of his own. Dawn smiled at him and brought her face closer to his, the two of them slowly kissing, affection mingled with desire slowly starting to rise in their bodies.
Nightmares came to Ace. She kept dreaming about Jimmie and Blackjack's deaths. She dreamt that their innards had somehow flown through the walls of the cannibal house, wrapping around her and coating her face with blood as she attempted to escape the home. She dreamt that the old cannibal was taking bites out of her flesh as she tripped over a string of intestines. Eventually the nightmare passed, Ace's mind resting in the darkness of empty sleep.
