**Author's Note** Hello everyone, thank you for following along to chapter six. I want to warn you right away that there is a graphic character death in this scene. It's pretty brutal but this IS a battle adventure game after all. There will be parts of this story that get a little Game of Thrones on the characters. But everything will always work out in the end.
Lots of plot, lots of story, and a big battle towards the end. I will try to find some opportunity to throw more sexiness in where I can. But this is a big battle part of the game.
An Adventurer's Untold Tales
Chapter 6 - Bonds and Loss
Darkness swirled around the young blond boy as he laid unconscious from the severe blow he had taken. His dreams fluttered through his mind, giving him jumbled images that seemed to make little sense. He dreamed of home, of his mother speaking to him. However her voice seemed different as if someone else were speaking through her. There was also a disembodied male's voice who seemed to boom and roar as he spoke. His mother argued with the voice as it seemed like she were not actually speaking to Bowie at all but looking down upon him. Looking around he imagined himself laying in his bed back safe at home but as the dream continued it changed to the Princess's bedroom now that he knew what it looked like. Then the setting changed again to inside of the ruins that his friends hid in for shelter. He thought of the holes in the monument and what might have been missing.
“He will find them.” The image of his mother said. However now she looked wavy as if she were becoming blurred. Furthermore her brown hair now shifted to have more of a bluish tint. “I will make sure he can carry them once he does.”
“They all share the responsibility!” The voice decreed. “Let him share in the gloom of the others as they all suffer the fate they made for themselves. Wake!”
Suddenly a searing pain wracked through Bowie's mind, burning intensely as he realized the pain was coming from a bruise that was on the side of his head.
“Impossible!” Bowie heard a loud feminine voice shout again. Bowie had not yet opened his eyes but he felt as if he were awake now. “Galam and Granseal are allies!” She continued to yell out. The voice sounded similar to the one in his dream but might have been from someone younger.
“But it's true. I'm a scholar.” Said an older man's voice. This one was very different than the voice in his dreams. He was not yelling and sounding as if he had a more empathetic tone. “I'm here because I tried to stop him.”
Then a second man spoke out, sounding gruff but sorrowful. “I am the leader of the Galam Army. I disagreed with the war and now I'm here. What did your kingdom do to Galam? What is the reason for this war?”
There were many voices talking. But Bowie's head was ringing too loud to continue to focus. He heard words he recognized, “Sir Hawel… Galam… Ground Seal…” however, he could not focus while laying down from the blood to rushing to his head. He sat up and shook his head, trying to right himself. He gave a loud yawn and stretched, instantly feeling better once he was positioned upward. However he was surprised to find himself inside of a stone room. There were large jail bars and there he saw several of his friends with him.
“Bowie! You finally woke up!” Chester called to him happily. “We're talking about Ground Seal. Please, join in.”
Bowie nodded but looked around. “There are a lot of people in here.” He seemed to notice. Looking around he saw a chair with a unique looking set of sandals sitting on top. He picked the sandals up to move them out of the way but the chair didn't seem to budge. Putting the sandals in his bag so that he could have both hands free he pulled at the chair but it seemed stuck to the floor and he couldn't figure out why. Forgetting all about the sandals that he had just picked up he then stepped around to be closer to the middle of the conversation.
“What's wrong with the seal?” Asked an armored man from the next cell over.
“Somebody broke the sacred seal?” Chester guessed from what little information they were able to get from Sir Hawel.
Sarah heard this and waved him off. Being the only student who paid attention during history lessons in class she said, “We’re not sure. It seems that somebody stole the two jewels.” Instantly Bowie became alarmed realizing that Sarah was not in the cell with them. She was on the other side with the Galam Army Commander. She didn't sound panicked but since this was a jail he hoped there had not been any shifty characters in there with her.
Just then there was movement from a bedroll behind Sarah. A furred beastman of sorts stirred from having listened to bits of the conversation. “...ancient… shrine… two… jewels...!”
Quickly the Galam Commander looked over seeing the heavy bruise that the beastman had on his head. “Oh, you're up! Are you okay?” Neither Sarah nor the Commander had seen him move since they had been thrown into the prison. Now that he lifted himself from bed they saw that he was a rat man and was not much older than most of the kids from Granseal.
“Where…” He asked confused. “...I… why am I…?” He said startled, not recognizing his surroundings.
“This is a jail in the basement of Galam Castle.” Said the Commander. However he quickly became concerned as the rat man began to walk. “Say, you mustn't move yet.” Having seen his fair share of battle he knew a lot about injuries and was concerned about the rat having a concussion.
However a concussion seemed likely as the rat man seemed lost in this thoughts for recent events. “Yes, I remember! I was caught by Galam soldiers. They took my jewels and brought me here! They… they killed my friends!” He said mournfully. He struggled to move, trying for some semblance of control to combat the recent loss in his life. However after struggling for a few steps he collapsed from exhaustion. “Ouch! I can hardly move.”
Now the Galam Commander stepped over to place a hand on his shoulder. “Stay here for awhile. You need to rest.” Then he returned to the rest of the group asking, “What were we talking about? Oh, yes. Why is King Galam interested in Ground Seal?”
“Is it related to the opened door?” Sarah asked, trying to get to the bottom of this. There had been some light bickering between them on the subject but no one really knew anything on it for sure. However once they started complaining about the man who broke the sacred seal being responsible for the events taking place in the island the rat man in the next cell suddenly sat up feeling nervous.
“Are you okay? You know something?” The Commander asked him.
“Uhh… nope!” He said desperately.
“We can't stay here!” Kazin shouted in frustration. “We must escape!”
Sarah chimed in, annoyed at Kazin stating the obvious. “I know, but how can we open that locked door?” She turned her back to the wall and leaned against it. But then she kicked back at the stone from Kazin’s frustration wearing off on her. “Oh, Galam is invading Granseal while we're just sitting here!”
A little over eagerly the rat man spoke up, “I'll open the door for you!”
The Commander smiled at the fortuitous circumstances saying, “Oh, yes! You're a thief, you can open locked doors.” Meanwhile though Bowie dropped his face into his palm feeling that isn't something the ex leader of the army should be happy about.
The rat man then posed proudly saying, “Yes, of course! I'm the great thief, Slade!” After sticking a short wire into the keyhole the door popped open and it was just as easy for Slade to open the other cell door as well. “Ok, it's done. Hurry to your country and save them!”
“Thank you!” Chester said, stepping up to him with heavy gratitude. “Bowie, let's get back to Granseal!”
However Sarah was not feeling as convinced. “Why are you being so nice to us?” Her tone was heavy with scepticism. “You don't know us.”
Now stuttering nervous was all Slade seemed capable of. “Ah, that's because… well…” He began trying to make away out of the cell but Sarah stepped around blocking his path.
“Is it…” She asked, suspiciously. “Are you the thief who broke the seal?”
He just looked at her realizing he was trapped like a rat. “I… ah…”
Stepping right up to him she yelled, “You are!” Now she was infuriated. “Hey, you!” She screamed. “Do you know what you've done?” She shoved him hard with both hands making him falter back a step. “A big problem was created because you stole the jewels!” Losing her temper she then stepped forward and kicked the rat man right between his legs, sending him falling backwards to the wall behind him. He slumped to the floor in pain as she scolded him harshly, “I know the thief Slade always steals for poor people, but you made a serious mistake this time!!” Now she begin to cry a bit from her anger. “All these disaster's....” She said thinking of the storm and the King getting sick. “Everything is YOUR fault!” She screamed, thinking of her friends having to travel out where she got striped naked by a slime as well as poor Hawel having to die.
“I didn't mean to…” Slade began to whimper out lightly.
“That's enough!” She interrupted him. Wasting no time in turning her back to the thief, Sarah walked into the cell with the rest of her friends. “Bowie, let's go!” She ordered, not wanting to take no for an answer. Not wanting to argue after he’d seen what had happened, he nodded and lead his group out towards the stairs up into the castle.
“Wait!” Slade called out to them unexpectedly. “You'll be captured if you go that way. I know this castle very well. I know a shortcut.” Slade walked over to the chair that Bowie had trouble moving earlier. He pulled up a few loose tiles using a wire to reveal a hidden latch that was connected to the base of the chair. Suddenly the entire base opened up into a hidden tunnel. “Now, go out through this shortcut!” Bowie looked back considering it. Sarah gave him an uneasy smile, not wanting to trust the thief but Bowie did notice that he could hear voices from atop the stairs. Returning back to the cell he made his way to the secret path. Slade stopped Bowie and said, “You're right, I did it. But, I didn't know all this would happen. Please take me with you.”
“Take you with us?!” Sarah shouted. “Why would we do that? Are home is being invaded by an army because of you!”
“I know!” He shouted, thinking that blue haired girl was particularly good at getting under his skin. “And I can't take that back. But let me do what I can. Take me with you and I'll share with you my secret treasure. Just climb down and it's buried right inside the wall behind you.
(Bowie decides to take Slade with him.)
“Thanks. I promise to help you. This tunnel leads to the kitchen. We can escape safely.” Stepping down the passage Bowie remembered to turn and inspect the back wall. After digging a bit he found another clump of the strange metallic stone. Passing it to one of his friends he nodded to Slade and lead them all out through the tunnel.
He saw that the path did indeed lead into the kitchens. One maid was bustling about busy at work. The other seemed to eavesdropping through the wall mumbling that the King was arguing with someone. However upon seeing Bowie and his friends she suddenly rushed back to her duties. As he walked by the maid turned to him saying, “Don't tell anybody that I neglected my work. If you do… I'll kill you!”
The group seemed stunned as Bowie responded, “Geez lady, take it easy. We're just kids passing by as we look at the castle!” Then he quickly led them all out the door. Proceeding forward they found themselves on what appeared to be an upstairs balcony. There was a path to the west but then there was a small room off to the east.
“Hey is that a church? In the castle?” Jaha asked, seeing the ornate decorations on the door.
“Ahemm…?” Sarah cleared her throat while looking at Bowie.
He just smiled and nodded. “Yes, okay Sarah.” Then he started reading them inside.
Slade was anxious to be free from the castle and questioned, “Uh, do we have time for this?”
But Sarah immediately snapped, “There is always time for faith!” Then she turned to smile at the local priest so they could tell their story and confess their sins. Most of them relaxed on the floor taking it easy until about an hour had passed when they finished with the priest.
“Be careful. The light will always be in your side.” He told them as they waved and left.
As they proceeded down the walkway Slade happy to continue. He had started resenting Sarah just a little but now he turned to Bowie saying, “Alright almost there. It's just down the stairs and…”
“Listen, everybody! We’re going to Granseal!!” The King of Galam called out loudly. Slade and Bowie ducked down and peeked over to see what was going on. They saw a large group of soldiers. They were all heavily armed and looked ready for battle.
“We’re too late!” Slade whispered in panic.
Before them was the King of Galam and beside him was the same knight who had knocked Bowie out previously. The King spoke saying, “As you may know, my messenger was killed! Granseal must have done this. So we're invading them to retaliate!”
There was a murmuring from the soldiers but quickly the knight stepped up. “Quiet! Everybody listen to me! I also don't understand this march! But, King Galam must have a good reason! I believe the King! How about you? Anyone disagree?” He looked around but now the formation was silent. “No? Good!”
As he stepped back, the King turned to him saying, “Well done, Lemon.”
Bowie and his Granseal friends gasped, “That is Lemon? I wish we had known that before.”
“King Galam, victory is ours!” Lemon yelled.
The King now raised his hand. “Guards! Open the gates! Lower the bridge!” But just before they left the King stopped Lemon and whispered to him. “Lemon, prove your allegiance.”
“What do you mean?” He asked.
“Show no mercy!”
“My Lord…”
“Now, go!” The King yelled to them all. “Crush Granseal!” Then the King led the charge himself as they all rushed out of the castle.
Back up on the balcony Slade turned to Bowie saying, “They've gone. The war begins. So, what should we do now? Are you still going to Granseal?” Bowie nodded and Slade was amazed. “You're serious? Do you think you can stop the war? I will leave you once I am outside the gate!”
“A’HA!” Sarah called out to him. “That is why you wanted to come with us! You aren't sure that we are going to escape at all! You want us here to fight for you just so you can escape!”
“Yeau, what of it?!” Slade said bitterly, feeling fed up with Sarah's attitude. “I still helped you didn't I? I got you out of the cell!”
“There's no time for this!” Bowie yelled, hoping he wouldn’t have to listen to them bickering. “Everybody! Let's go!” He said as Sarah and Slade followed silently.
As soon as they proceeded downstairs a loud voice called out which startled them. “You!” A castle guard had been stationed there and they had just walked right out in front of him. “How did you get out?” He asked, recognizing them immediately.
But they were both interrupted by another pair of voices down the hall. “Wow, great jewel!” One soldier said to another. “Oh, this? The King gave it to me!”
“Because you captured that rat?”
“Yes. I presented them to King Galam. He was so kind to give me one of the pair, the Jewel of Light!”
Upon hearing that one of the sacred jewels was so close both Bowie and Slade proceeded forward. But they were stopped again by the castle guard. “Wait! How did you escape? Intruders! Intruders! Arrest them!” He called down the hall. Bowie sighed seeing more soldiers come and Slade slinked back to the stairwell instead of helping.
As the battle commenced they saw they would be fighting in a lot smaller space than they were used to. There were two soldiers and one archer in front with more opponents further down the hall. The group moved together as a unit but the enemy archer charged forward and managed to shot Kazin with an arrow. Fortunately though Sarah was right there to heal him. Both soldiers charge as well but neither were close enough to attack yet. This left them open for Bowie and his friends to advance. Chester ran around one of the soldiers attacking him from behind. Meanwhile Kazin saw an opportunity seeing that the other soldier had run adjacent to the archer. “Blaze 2!” He shouted, raining them both in fire from above. Both targets survived the fire but were mortally wounded. Then to make sure the bigger threat was eliminated Bowie quickly dispatched the archer. With this kill he flexed feeling stronger.
Rushing down to kill the guard closer to the spellcasters Jaha cheered, “Hey, we must be good!” After that the remaining soldier attacked Bowie but the damage was minimal. The blond boy laughed and nodded to the dwarf. Several other soldiers could be heard down the hall so Chester and Kazin took defensive positions. Bowie finished off the remained soldier and as Sarah healed him for his bit of damage he said, “It sounds like they are waiting for us. Let's advance but be careful, could be a trap.” They traveled on, avoiding ledges so they would not be hit by ranged attacks. “Chester, you take point to fish someone out while we all wait a space behind you.” The leader instructed as the centaur nodded to him.
However they were surprised by what came around the corner. It was a dark figure in blue robes. But this was no healer like Sarah. It raised a staff and a ball of fire erupted around Chester similar to Kazin’s magic. “Hot! Hot! Hot!” The centaur yelled, actually taking a good bit of damage from that. He was still healthy and ready to fight but it hadn't been hurt like that since fighting the Gizmos in the Ancient Tower.
“I've got you!” Sarah said, being quick to heal him from the blow. Once he was refreshed to full health he stepped further to fish for the upcoming enemies as well while turning back and throwing his short spear into the Galam Mage. “Ha, mages… nice and soft.”
Suddenly though Kazin felt a little daring. “I'll show you how soft we are. We need to get through these foes quickly so let's do this!” Then he stepped just passed Chester to ignite a soldier and an archer who were hiding around the corner. He felt much stronger after raining then both in fire.
Everyone yelled it it was too late because now Kazin was left in the open. “Who does he think he is?” Jaha asked as he ran up and struck down the first mage. “Oh treasure.” He said happily as the opponent dropped their Short Rod and the dwarf was happy to collect it.
Just then a new opponent came down into view. It was a large black centaur wielding a spear much like Chester's. He had been the only who was speaking to the king previously as the Jewel of Light clearly dangled around his neck. “That's their leader!” Bowie shouted out in worry. The centaur trotted confidently and raised his weapon. They watched as it flew through the air and sank into Kazin's chest. The red mage was still standing but blood flew from his mouth immediately, taking half his vitality in a single blow. If that wasn't bad enough, the second Galam Mage came down from around the corner and torched Kazin with a smaller fire spell. This dropped him to a single point of his health as he knelt to the ground burnt and bleeding.
Knowing that he was their leader, hoping that would draw some fire, Bowie was able make it to the mage just at the end of the spell. He struck hard but the mage had been at full health. Kazin was still out of reach to him though as the fight had suddenly become very crowded for space.
Sarah whimpered nervously as she looked at the scene before her. There was just no room. Kazin had boxed himself in and he was surrounded by enemies now. But there was one spot, a single space just between the dying Red Mage and the hulking enemy centaur. “Grr, I don't even like Kazin! I should just let him suffer!” She thought to herself. But before she knew it her feet were already sprinting her forward. Chester looked at her surprised as she dove and slid underneath him between his legs. She went right passed the bleeding fool and turned to face him. She shivered as fear ran down her spine. She could hear the centaur breathing right behind her. There was an axe wielding soldier right next to her. There was an enemy mage and an archer within range of her. She was so scared that her fingers were trembling. But she reached out towards Kazin spending the last healing spell she had on him as she shouting, “You boys better fucking save me!” And then balled up in fright where she knelt.
Suddenly an arrow struck Sarah right in the shoulder and she screamed painfully. Then she looked up as the burnt Galam soldier grabbed her by the front of her robes. “Stupid Granseal whore!” He said and cut into her chest with his axe. Kazin saw the wounds she was taking for him and stretched his staff out. He cursed himself for not having the energy to kill to of them at once. Instead he moved so that his companions would have more room to fight and and burned away the soldier who held her so that he would drop free. Once there was an opening Chester darted forward to penetrate their ranks. He saw the mage raising his rod towards Sarah and threw his short spear right through the mage’s face killing him before he could.
Bowie smiled seeing Jaha make it just in time to cut down the archer. If they kept this up she would be able to run and it would be easy work to cover her. He raise his sword to intercept the enemy leader as soon as Sarah got to her feet. However his heart dropped when he heard their foe speak out in a dark voice before their priest could get away. “I'm going to make you brats sorry for killing all of my soldiers… little Granseal scum.” He reached down and grabbed Sarah by her blue hair. She screamed when he pulled her upwards and then grabbed her up on her feet into the air.
“OOOWWW! LET ME GO! WAIT- NO, STOP!” She shouted when he pulled open the front of her robes. Kazin blushed seeing her open slit and blue pubic hair right in front of him and Sarah's other friends growled angrily seeing their friend being humiliated.
But then all of their faces went white with shock, not a single one of them prepared for what happened next. The Galam Knight spoke sadistically into her ear and said, “Let me show you what I am going to do to each of you Granseal sluts once I get there!” Then he brought his spear around and held the tip right to the entrance of her vagina.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” She shrieked in terror and then screamed when he stabbed into her. “AAAHHHH! IT HURTS! IT HURTS! SAVE ME! AAHHH!” But then she was silenced as he thrust again. There was a sickeningly wet sound as blood began to flow like water from inside her. The middle of her torso looked bent from the intrusion of the weapon inside her. She looked down at herself wide eyed and then back to her friends in disbelief. Then the centaur took a breath and shoved the spear one more time. The blow sounded like a crunching wet sound now as the tip of the blade ripped up out of her mouth. Blood sprayed from her mouth like a fountain as her arms and legs suddenly fell limp to her sides. Choking gurgles could be heard from the exposed girl as she twitched with the blade of the spear protruding from her mouth and the hilt of the spear just jutting from her vagina. Then the centaur lowered his weapon, letting Sarah slide off of it to where she collapsed unmoving on the ground.
Everyone was stunned as the Galam Knight just grinned. Kazin fell to his knees almost fighting to disbelieve what he just witnessed. Chester started mumbling incoherently as looked at her eyes staring off at nothing. Jaha suddenly vomited on the floor not being able to handle what he just saw. Meanwhile Bowie began to twitch with anger and loss. “Sarah, NO! DAMN YOU!!!” He screamed rushing forward and slashing the centaur across the chest. Immediately afterward Chester's trance was broken and he rammed his short spear into the enemies back.
Just after Kazin stood up and yelled, “You monster! She did not deserve that!” Then he raised his staff and used the last of his magic to burn the Galam Knight until it collapsed.
The awkward silence that followed is what brought Slade out of his hiding. “Holy cow… what happened in here?” He asked, seeing Bowie and his friends looking like the world is over. There were dead Galam troops all over but then he saw the blue priest on the ground. “Oh man…”
The Galam Knight was no longer able to move but he was still breathing. “Heh, at least I took one of you little monsters with me.” He said looking at Sarah's naked body lying dead on the floor.
“You don't get to look at her!” Bowie screamed and tried pushing the large centaur away from her. Slade rushed over and helped to shove him back along the blue carpet.
“You, rat!” The Galam Knight spat. “I threw you into jail after I took your jewels…” ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
“Hee, hee! You expect a thief to stay in jail?” Slade replied. “Give me the jewels.” Seeing that the centaur was in no condition to fight back he walked over and searched the toolbag of the Galam Knight. “Yes! I found one!” Slade looked it over finding the Jewel of Light. Slade then took his dagger and poked into the open wounds of the centaur. “Where is the other jewel?”
He spit blood onto the carpet and answered without hesitating. “King… King Galam… took it into battle.” But through his body teeth he grinned. “Take the jewel. You won't have it long. We will get it back!” Slade narrowed his eyes and turned his blade. Eventually the centaur finally fell dead.
Then he stepped over to Bowie. “This is the Jewel of Light that I stole from the shrine. The other jewel is missing. I'll give you this one now.” Bowie received the Jewel of Light from Slade however just as soon as he took hold of it the Jewel suddenly moved on its it's own and fused to his neck. “Bowie, did you just use magic?” Slade said startled.
The blond boy was filled with shock from just having watched his friend die and he was in no mood for any further unexpected events. “What?! No I didn't! Get it off of me!” He shouted in panic as he grabbed at his throat. He moved his hands as Slade tried to help.
He tugged and tugged until Bowie started to choke but it was to no avail. “Ummm… I can't remove it! Is it cursed?” Bowie checked himself over but didn't seem to be suffering an ill effects. Slade just shrugged saying, “We’ll go to the church later to see if it's cursed. At least we have it now. The knight said that King Galam took the other jewel with him. Bowie, I'll go to Granseal with you.”
(Slade the Thief joined the Force.)
“I have an obligation to find the other jewel. Let's go to Granseal!” Slade seemed happy to be part of a team again. However Bowie then turned to see his friends all huddled around together on the floor. They had more mournful business to take care of first before they could set out.
**Author's Ending Note** So I added some content which I feel seems to fit. While Bowie was still unconscious he had sort of a vision. It gives a little foreshadowing and some background information that the actual game leaves out.
Also who liked my clever way of working in the Chirrup Sandals? I know the things are worthless but it's still a collectable. And I gave a little foreshadowing for the chair too.
And oh no! Sarah died! And quite terribly too, the poor dear. And everything had been going so well. Maybe now Kazin will learn his lesson to curb his cocky attitude and stop running ahead in battle. What are Bowie and his friends going to do now?
