"Ryu?" Anesthesia turned to him. "And it's vital that you're honest."
"Yes." Ryu nodded firmly. "Helena has borne me one child, and I have no reservations with another."
"Why are you asking what they wanted?" Tina frowned with confusion.
"Anesthesia has a theory," Lisa said cautiously. "That the Dragon Essence will adapt to the will of both lovers."
"Let's get you to the scanner," Anesthesia led Helena through the door into the main lab and the others followed.
Helena laid down on the examination table and Anesthesia sat down at a computer terminal nearby. A complicated looking array of instruments lowered down from the ceiling and moved over Helena's body, humming softly as they scanned her. Everyone was silent for a long moment as Anesthesia studied the computer screen.
"I was right!" Anesthesia cried out suddenly, pumping a fist in the air.
"She means congratulations, Helena." Lisa gave Anesthesia a chastising slap on the back of her head. "You're pregnant."
"Oh thank heavens!" Helena got to her feet and embraced Ryu.
"So if both the man and woman want a child, they can?" Rachel asked.
"From what I saw in Helena, if both partners are willing, pregnancy is actually certain." Anesthesia explained. "All or nothing is what Bayonetta has given you. No chances taken. Quite efficient if you ask me."
"No chances taken." Ayane said softly to herself.
"So, Helena..." Kasumi took Helena's hands in hers. "Do you believe it will be a boy or girl?"
"To be honest, either would be glorious." Helena smiled warmly. "But I would adore having a daughter."
"Our little Taki is wonderful!" Kasumi giggled. "May you be granted your desire!"
"Thank you, Kasumi." Helena blinked back tears and embraced the kunoichi.
"That Bayonetta is one crazy witch!" Tina shook her head, but was smiling at Helena's overwhelming relief and joy. "She should have sent Ryu back with a manual or something! First she chooses some random pairings to transfer the Dragon Essence, and now..."
"What?" Lisa asked. "What do you mean by random pairings?"
"Hitomi and Leifang had to swap partners to give Eliot and Jann Lee the Dragon Essence. Heck, Kokoro had to let Aigle give it to Brad." Tina said, and then blushed a bit. "And uh... well, I... Zack and me, uh..."
"You had sex with Zack?" Lisa asked in shock. "But you think he's a goof-ball!"
"And he still is!" Tina insisted, obviously flustered. "But it turns out he's also really awesome in the sack and... well the point is that it worked! I felt the... calling or... whatever and then I transferred the Dragon Essence to him."
"So there's still hope for Hayate." Anesthesia grabbed Lisa's shoulder.
"Yes!" Lisa looked as though she were about to faint with relief. "I just have to find the right match for him. Listen, ladies... Hayate! Did anyone feel anything? Tina? Reiko? Rachel? Helena? Christie?"
They all shook their heads.
"Kasumi... oh, sorry." Lisa blushed fiercely and shook her head in embarrassment. "I got carried away. Sorry about... wait... Where's Ayane?"
Ryu and Kasumi looked behind them. Ayane had been there a minute ago, but now she was gone.
"She's probably gone to see if the other girls respond to Hayate's name." Tina reasoned. "Ayane is a pretty assertive gal."
"Hayate has always been close to Ayane," Kasumi nodded. "He means the world to both of us. I must go spread the word as well. A proper match will feel a strong reaction to even his name, correct?"
"Absolutely," Lisa nodded. "Please, bring back any of the girls who so much as get a twinkle in their eye hearing his name. I don't care if he has to sleep with half the Rumble Roses; Hayate is going to get the Dragon Essence if it's the last thing I do."
