Patrick’s Fossil
He was getting everything together for a three day trip to the forest with Rachael, she got home this evening and they left in the morning. He wanted everything ready to go in the morning so they could have as much time to go as far as possible before they had to head back. It was this that led him to discover the forgotten fossils. He turned the backpack upside down to empty it and out tumbled two fossils. “What the hell?” he exclaimed. He had forgotten all about them. They had gotten them awhile back on a trip to Twist Mountain in search of Pokémon. Then he remembered there was a place here in the city that was for people that looked for fossils. He grabbed the fossils and his belt that held his Pokémon and was out the door.
He was outside the building in no time at all. He walked in and looked around. There were pictures of people digging in places he would probably never see.
“Hello, how can I help you?” a large bearded man called as he appeared from the back.
“I would like to know what I can do with these fossils.”
“What to do with them? You use Pokémon don’t you?” he asked gesturing to the belt.
“Yes? What does that have to do with anything?”
“You mean you don’t know?”
“Know what?”
“The Museum in Nacrene City, they can transform them back to life. You take them there.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
Now that he mentioned it he remembered the guy in Twist Mountain had mentioned that. In fact this was the same guy. Hopefully he won’t remember…
“Hey I remember you. I met you in Twist Mountain and gave you and your girl those two fossils.”
“Yeah I just remembered that was you.”
“You’ve had them that long not knowing what to do with them?”
“No, Well yes. A lot of things happened after we got back from the mountain and it kind of slipped our minds. Is Nacrene City close to Pinwheel Forest?”
“Yes, it’s right at the entrance.”
“Well then we can stop in before we start.”
“Going to the forest are you?”
“Yeah a little vacation with the wife.” It still sounded funny to say, he hadn’t been married to Rachael for very long, maybe a month. “Thanks for your help, I really must be going.” He raised his hand in farewell as Patrick left.
He rushed back home and nearly ran in to Rachael when he got to the apartment.
“Where were you?” she asked.
“You remember our trip to Twist Mountain?”
“Yeah but that doesn’t…”
“Remember we got those fossils?”
“Oh.” she said her eyes widened. “I had forgotten.”
“So had I. I just ran across them getting everything ready. I ran down to the Fossil Freaks place to find out what to do with them. He said the Museum in Nacrene City could rejuvenate them, and its right at the entrance to Pinwheel Forest. We can stop in there first and change them.”
“Ok sounds good. I got food!”
They got up early the next day, they had an early flight to Nacrene City. It was a little longer than the flight to Driftveil but that was just over the mountain, this was considerably further, and luckily it was uneventful.
They left the small airport, it was basically a runway. Nacrene City was small compared to Mistralton. They walked along the street taking in the city. “Seems to be a lot of warehouses.”
“I think most have been converted into homes.” Rachael commented. They saw the Museum come into view.
“There’s the museum. Let’s get these fossils changed.”
“Which one is yours?” Rachael asked.
“I don’t remember. Which one do you want? This one looks like a dome this one looks like an arrowhead.”
“Uh the dome.” she said. “I wonder what it is? She continued. “Does your Pokédex have info on fossil Pokémon?”
“Not anything useful as to what they are, it just says it’s a Pokémon fossil. I already checked.” He said seeing her look.
They made their way to the Museum. It was a large white building that dominated to spot, and really stood out from the surrounding warehouses. Upon entering they immediately saw the huge skeleton of a Pokémon.
“Wow, that’s huge!” Rachael commented.
“Yes it is.” Patrick said mesmerized by the size, he must have been powerful…Rachael looked in his direction at this comment and slapped his shoulder. “Sorry power trip, won’t happen again.”
“It better not!” She replied.
The interaction was not lost on the assistant director. “Hello I’m Hawes the assistant director of the museum. My wife Lenora is the director and Gym Leader.”
“Gym Leader?” Patrick questioned.
“NO! You’re not ruining our trip with a gym battle maybe before we leave you can but, not before.”
“I can dominate her.” He reassured her in a whisper.
“Yeah right.” She huffed in disbelief. He relented and remained silent. “We are looking for the place to change our fossils. We heard it was here.”
“Yes it is little lady, come this way to the front desk.” Hawes said. They had bypassed the front desk looking at the skeleton.
“Hello! Welcome to the Narcene City Museum. How may I be of assistance?”
“We would like to change our fossils into Pokémon.” Rachael said.
“Certainly leave your fossil with us, and please fill out this short form.” They both handed her their fossil.
“Have a look around the Museum this can sometimes take a while.” The clerk replied in her all too chirpy manner. “Or you can always visit the Café Warehouse located just west of the Museum.”
“We will look around here.” Rachael answered. “Oh look at that!” she said after a while. It was a diorama of ancient Pokémon more common to the Kanto region. Aerodactyl was prominent of them all, his large wings outstretched, mouth open in a silent screech.
“This blue one with the shell is small, even the evolved form is small.” Patrick commented looking them over.
“This one isn’t much bigger.” Rachael commented pointing to the brown one and its evolved form. “Aerodactyl is the biggest by far. I want one…”
“That would be a miracle, that one is the rarest one of all.” Patrick said.
“Maybe when we get home I could stand in the park till someone gives me one.” She replied with an evil smile. It was a similar experience as to how he got the Mienfoo egg.
“That was totally different. Mienfoo isn’t an extinct Pokémon, Aerodactyl is.”
They continued their tour, they looked at the Dragon Stones. “I have the strange urge to grab this stone.” Patrick said as the gazed at the dark one.
“I like this one.” Rachael said about the other one.
“How about we each grab one and try to call out the dragon Pokémon?”
“It’s an old legend, you really think it’s true?”
“If it’s not true what’s the harm, there is a sign that says don’t touch, therefore it’s true.”
“Yeah that’s sound evidence.” Rachael responded.
Eventually they made their way back to the front, they didn’t explore the whole museum they want to be close when their Pokémon were done so they could be on their way to the forest as soon as possible.
“Here you are.” the clerk said handing them each a poké ball. The poké balls each had a design on the side, similar to the one on Jess’s Carracosta ball.
“Interesting design.” Rachael said.
It’s a commemorative ball, everyone that has a fossil Pokémon from here gets one.”
“Thank you.” They said and left for the forest.
“So where to first?”
“This was your idea.” Rachael replied. “I’m just following you.”
They traveled down a path that lead to the forest, it was getting darker as they traveled down the path getting closer to the forest.
“Is that the tree cover or is the sky growing darker?”
“A little of both I believe.”
“I hope the rain doesn’t spoil our vacation.” As if on cue from her comment the sky was stabbed by lightning and thunder followed immediately after it.
“I guess that’s your answer.” Patrick replied.
They journeyed further into the forest when the rain started. It was light so they decided not to stop.
“Pan, Pan, Pan, Pan.”
“You hear that?” Rachael asked.
“Yep sure do.”
They crept forward. It was a blue monkey, he had a blue tuff of hair on his head, large ears on the side of his head, and the tip of his tail looked to be a three leaf clover.
“I got this.” she said before Patrick had a chance to think.
“Pokémon go.” She cried throwing the fossil ball. Out popped a turtle. It was a Tirtouga.
“Moves…” she thought quick, it was a turtle so it had to know water moves. “Water Gun.” It hit the blue monkey in the side of the face.
The blue monkey turned his gaze to the direction of the offending attack. He looked annoyed at the attack and retaliated with a water gun in return.
Patrick was standing behind her looking at his Pokédex. “Try Aqua Jet. By the way Panpour is a water type too.”
“Hush I got this. Aqua Jet.” Despite her hush request she still used his suggestion. The Panpour dodged the Aqua Jet with ease and grace, nimbly leaping from low hanging limbs and vines.
The Pokédex saw it before anybody did. “Scald. A powerful blast of hot water, it can burn a Pokémon and thaw one that is frozen.” The Pokédex said.
“Watch out.” Patrick said as the Panpour used Scald. It collided with Tirtouga. He rolled several feet. He was covered in raw red marks.
“He’s burned.” Rachael said.
“Cinccino Hyper voice.” She cried recalling Tirtouga. Patrick put his fingers in his ears.
The Panpour clasp his hand over his huge ears and rolled on the ground. She threw the ball. After a slight struggle the ball became still.
“I got him.” She cheered as she picked it up.
“Good job.” He congratulated. She called him back out.
“Isn’t he cute?” she said hugging the Panpour. “He is.” She pulled a burnheal from her pack and sprayed it on Tirtouga. And then had her Audino use Heal Pulse. “Can you pull up Tirtouga and Panpour on your Pokédex for me?”
Tirtouga the Prototurtle Pokémon. A resurrected Pokémon. It can dive to depths beyond half a mile and is thought they went on land to attack its prey. Panpour the Spray Pokémon. The water stored in the tuft on its head is full of nutrients causing plants that receive it to grow large. This Pokémon does not thrive in dry environments; it keeps itself damp by shooting water from its head from its tail.”
Patrick scrolled back in the dex. “There appear to be two more monkey type Pokémon, one grass and the other fire.”
“Which one do you want?” she asked looking at the pictures.
“I don’t think it matters which one I want, it’s which one I can find. I need another pair of eyes.” he said calling out Shadow his Zoroark.
“Hey, I’m right here.” Rachael replied.
“Can you see in the dark?” he asked.
“NO but still…” she said in a huff.
“Sorry, I meant WE need another set of eyes.”
“That’s better.” she said returning to her happy state.
“Shadow, can you scout for me?”
“Zor.”
“Look for one of these.”
“Zor.” He said with a nod and set off.
They set off in another direction, he didn’t want to move to far from where he sent Shadow from but still wanted to search on his own. The rain was still falling but it was lite, the cloud cover was the problem, it was getting darker and darker as the heavy clouds rolled in, the thunder rumbled and lightning gave lots of light but not long enough. “I can’t see anything. I’ll use Flicker.” he said calling out Flicker his Lampent that had evolved from Litwick. He was getting a feeling of being watched. They were just out of sight but they were watching him. He grabbed Lampent by the base right under his arms and held him out to cast light into the dense brush. It did little to help. The hairs on the back of his neck rose seconds before Shadow tapped him on the shoulder. He jumped three feet high.
“Zor.” He said motioning over his shoulder.
“You found one?” he asked holding his chest.
“Zor.” He replied in a maybe sort of way pointing over his shoulder.
“You don’t sound sure.”
He just replied with the over the shoulder motion again.
They moved off in the direction, Shadow was leading the way. They traveled a considerable distance through thick areas of trees and waist high grass. Shadow motioned them to the ground, and gestured Patrick to move forward slowly. He peered through the grass at a blue haired girl wondering around looking lost. He couldn’t help but laugh silently.
“What is it?” Rachael asked confused by his reaction. She saw Shadow was grinning too in evil sort of way.
“Zor.” he said gesturing at Patrick’s belt.
“Oh god no!” he whispered back. Shadow had motioned to Slice’s ball.
“What?” she said again. She crept forward and looked through the grass and saw Kris. “She’s alone.”
Shadow again motioned to Slice’s ball.
Patrick just waved his hand trying to contain the laughter. “Ah the things we could do.”
Kris had been following a trail that had inexplicably ended. She was now lost in the forest and her Deino was no help, he couldn’t see, none of their kind could until they are fully evolved. She sat on a fallen log and started to cry. At this point Patrick and Rachael stopped laughing. Shadow also stopped and looked at her. “Should we go out there or leave?”
“She's crying. She's lost and probably scared.” Rachael said.
Kris called her Deino over and hugged it to her.
“Damn it, let’s go.” Patrick said standing up and moving out of the trees.
“Who’s there?” Kris cried out holding her Deino to her. Seeing who it was she started to shake. “Go away!” she said between sobs. He started to say something but was cut off “LEAVE ME ALONE!” she yelled. She was so loud he swore he felt Slice’s ball shake on his belt.
“We aren’t here to hurt you or fight you.” Patrick tried to reassure her figuring it wouldn’t work.
“Leave me alone…” she said again in defeated way with barely any volume to it.
“I can help you if you let me.” He felt Shadow hand slap him across the arm at this comment. “I don’t want to just leave her here she might get hurt.” He said to Shadow.
“Why do you care?” he saw her accusing tear filled eyes looking at him.
“I’ve never done anything to you, if you recall it was you and your Rainbow Gang that started it every time.” He said.
“Rainbow Gang.” She repeated confused. He then realized he used his name for them to her.
“You know what, lets go, I tried being nice and I’m done with it.” He said. There was a flash of lightning and an immediate clap of thunder that shook the forest.
“NO! I’m sorry please don’t go.” Kris cried again. He started to leave but Rachael stopped him.
“We can’t, it’s not right.”
“I know.” he reached into his pack and pulled out a tent. “You have a tent with you?”
“No. I didn’t know it was going to rain.”
“I have a spare. Lucky these packs both came with one.” He handed her the extra tent.
“Thank you.” He called out Slice, but made sure his back was to Kris so he didn’t see her or her Deino.
“Slice can you get us some firewood?”
“Sharp?” he asked with a really? Firewood? tone.
“Yes please.”
“Bisharp.” He replied and gestured for Shadow to follow.
Shadow joined him and as they walked toward the tree Patrick heard it.
“Zoroark.” With a backward gesture. Bisharp stopped dead and turned.
“Sharp!” taking a flying leap in her direction after locating her. He was tackled out of midair by Patrick. Fighting Slice earned him a cut across the face and arm as he tried to restrain him.
“Slice yield! Rachael get Golem!” She pulled the ball from his bag and called forth Golem. “Golem restrain him.” Golem grabbed him and held him there. “Now you are going to go get firewood and you are NOT going to start any fights, am I absolutely clear or should he explain it?” he said gesturing to Golem who was currently holding him in an iron grip.
“Sharp.”
“Good, release him Golem.”
Kris had watch the entire scene wide eyed with a shocked expression on her face.
Before he left Slice turned in her direction “Sharp.” he said pointing at her. The meaning was clear, later.
After Slice and Shadow had returned with what seemed to be a tree sliced into small pieces. They sat around the large fire. Rachael had tended to his cuts while Slice was away. The rain was still falling but the heat from the fire kept them dry. “So what are you doing out here Kris?”
“Oh uh, looking.” She answered clearly not expecting questions.
“Alone? Without your friends.”
“You mean the Rainbow Gang?” she questioned.
“Yeah them.” he replied slightly embarrassed. “Looking for what?”
“Why the Rainbow Gang?” she asked.
“You’re kidding right?” Rachael said.
She just looked at them confused petting Deino who was laying next to her.
“I can’t believe you haven’t seen it.” Patrick said. “Your names, Your hair, your Pokémon.”
“What about them?”
“Your Pokémon is blue so is your hair.”
“Dene is black!” She said.
“Okay bad example. Jade, green hair both plant Pokémon green, Amber, yellow, giant yellow spider. Scarlett, red hair, Darmanitan red. Should I continue?”
“Ha, that’s funny.” She replied.
“You’re the only one that doesn’t exactly match your Pokémon. Maybe while you’re out here you should look for one that’s blue. There are a few I know of.”
“Like what?” she asked.
“There are Panpours here, blue monkey Pokémon. And Sawks are known to be here too.”
“No I’m looking for something else.” She let slip.
“What?”
“Don’t play dumb it’s the same reason you’re here.”
“Vacation?” Rachael said.
“No the super Pokémon.” She said as if she knew they knew what she was talking about.
“Super Pokémon?” Patrick asked.
“Yeah, you know.” she said.
“No we don’t. Why don’t you tell us?”
“You really haven’t heard the stories?” Kris said realization dawning.
“No.” they answered in unison.
She searched for signs of deception in their voice and found none. “Okay, there is a Pokémon in this forest that is said to be massive in size and power, it moves silently but with great speed.”
“Hold on, is this some ghost story or real?” Patrick asked.
“True for all I know, that’s why I’m here. I’m looking for it.” Kris replied.
“A kid story is what it sounds like.” Rachael said.
“Fine I’ll stop.” Kris said crossing her arms and looking back and forth at them.
“Oh please continue.” Patrick said.
She sensed the sarcasm but continued none the less.
“It is said to take Pokémon from trainers and be gone before they know what happened. And no one that has come across it has ever caught it. They say it can’t be caught.”
“I have a massive Pokémon, If we find it, I’ll catch it.” Patrick said looking towards Golem.
“It’s said to be bigger than him.” She said.
“Well I say we get some food and look around some more. Despite the look of things it’s a little after midday.” They pulled their food out of the packs and shared some with Kris despite the facts of past events.
“So you really didn’t attack Raven with your Bisharp?” she asked as they were finishing up lunch.
“No, and he was a Pawniard then. I told you what happened. She came back looking for another fight against my strong Pokémon. I beat her and then she tried to kiss me twice. I pushed her off and she slapped me and stormed away. I’m not sure what she told you, but you’ve seen what Slice does to opponents. Was her Gothita covered in cuts?”
“No.” she replied slowly.
“And another thing I’m guessing she gave you some excuse as to why she was leaving you that day? And it just so happens that I knew that would happen and could ambush her?” He said giving her something to think about. “Well we are going to look around some more you can stay here or leave or do whatever you want.”
“Can I tag along with you? I don’t like storms.” At that comment lightning streaked the sky and thunder shook the trees causing her to cower behind her Deino.
“I guess.”
They had been going for some time when Shadow threw out his arm and scouted ahead. He returned and picking up a leaf and holding it to his head he mimed a Pokémon walking around. “The green one is over there?” Patrick asked.
“Zor.” he whispered.
“Green one of what?” Kris asked.
“Be quiet and move up so you can see.” Rachael whispered.
Patrick was well ahead of them both. He already had his Lampent out. He was lite on fire attacks but he did have them. “Flame Burst.” The Green monkey took it in the back and rolled several feet.
“Pan.” it said sitting up shaking its head.
“Again.”
“Lamp.” It cried releasing another burst.
The Pansage dodged the attack with a dive to the side and unleashed a seed bomb attack pelting Lampent repeatedly. “Inferno, and end it.” The fire inside Lampent seemed to burn brighter then burst forth from him, and to the amazement of Patrick was dodged again by the Pansage.
He launched a Leech seed attack right as he dodged, Lampent didn’t see it coming. The seeds struck him and he was immediately covered in vines that sprang from the seeds. Patrick saw the sapping of energy from Lampent. He recalled him.
“I can get him.” Kris said.
Rachael grabbed her arm and pulled her back. “Don’t you dare, or we will leave you here.”
“Rufflet Wing attack.” He dive bombed the Pansage striking him with his wing across the back. “Sky Drop.” The Pansage was lifted in the air before he had a chance to recover from the wing attack. He was dangling from Rufflet’s talons futilely struggling to free himself. When Rufflet determined he was high enough then dived to add speed and then released the Pansage that plummeted at the ground at breakneck speed. He slammed into the now damp ground that slightly cushioned his fall. Patrick threw his ball at him. He struggled at the containment but was too weak to break free. “Got him!”
He was greeted with a hug from Rachael. “Good job, I thought he had you for a minute.”
“Never had a chance.”
Yeah right, Kris thought.
Rufflet landed and spread his wings in triumph and cried out. “RUFF!”
“I can’t take all the credit Ruff---” He was cutoff as Rufflet began to morph. He grew to just under five feet.
“BRAVIARY!” he screeched.
“Wow.” Patrick gasp. Rachael and Kris were both speechless. He spread his wings and began to flap them to take flight, creating a Whirlwind in the process. He launched into the sky and darted back and forth. He called back out his Lampent who upon appearing burst into flames to burn off the offending vines.
“Well I was going to get those for you but.” He said with a shrug.
“Lampent.”
Braviary finally landed, night was falling fast and with the offending clouds they could barely see anymore. “Time to head back to camp. Lampent lead the way.”
They all settled down for the night. “So what are you going to do tomorrow?” Patrick asked Kris.
“I don’t know. I guess head back to the city and get some more supplies then come back and look for the mysterious Pokémon.”
“You know earlier I had this feeling I was being watched from the woods, you know when I sent Shadow looking? I wonder if that was this Pokémon or something else.”
“You don’t really buy this do you? It’s a kid’s story that you hear at slumber parties or camp-outs.” Rachael responded quietly.
“I haven’t been to either of those. I grew up in the country I camped in my backyard.”
They pulled their food out and had a nice meal. Then returned to their tents.
I was still dark out when Patrick awoke to a strange sound that didn’t seem to fit or belong with the normal forest sounds. He slightly and silently roused Rachael. “You hear that?” he whispered.
“It’s Kris, she stealing our supplies.” Rachael responded with the obvious comical comment.
“Slice is sitting outside on guard, she would be crying in pain if that were the case.” He said not catching the humor. He moved slowly to the tent flap and bent it back slightly the see out. The rain had picked up and was coming down fairly fast and heavy, and the fire had died down which added to the difficulty in sight. “I don’t see anything or Slice.” he whispered back.
“SHARP!” the cry cut through the night like a knife, a cry of pain. Patrick nearly ripped open the tent and was outside in seconds. He saw Slice slide towards him face down in the dirt. “Slice you ok?”
“Bis.” she said looking up at him, that’s a stupid question the look said.
He saw the shadowy outline of a very large Pokémon. That was all he could see, it stayed far back from the light circle of the dying fire. A hiss emanated from its direction. “Bisharp!” he yelled back and leaped again at the hidden Pokémon only to be batted away with what seemed like the greatest of ease.
“Why don’t you come out here and instead of hiding in the trees like a coward?” Patrick called then wished he hadn’t as it emerged. It was massive in size, it didn’t dwarf Golem but he could tell it was just as big or bigger. It was a giant snake, he pulled his Pokédex and flipped it open.
“Serperior the Regal Pokémon. It can stop an opponent’s movements with just a glare. They only give it their all when fighting a powerful opponent.”
“Deino Crunch!” Kris yelled. She had appeared out of nowhere. Serperior swung his tail quick as lightning and batted Deino across the clearing and into the darkness on the other side. He looked at Kris with a contemptuous glare. She coward back into the tent.
Slice had been granted a reprieve while Deino attacked. At Deino’s embarrassing lose Serperior turned his attention back to Slice.
Slice staggered to his feet and darted across the space between them quick as a flash and lunged into a Guillotine attack, but Serperior was just as fast and dodged it and smacking him aside with his tail. A quick scan in the Pokédex told Patrick that he was weak to Ice. He called out Yeti and Snocwcone.
“Both of you Ice Beam now!” He felt that. He buckled under the double blast. Only problem was it was the suddenness of the two attacks that got him, he recovered surprisingly fast and decided to actually use an attack.
“SSSSEEERRRR!”
“Giga Drain. A grass…”
“Quiet.” Patrick said snapping it shut.
Yeti fell to the ground.
“Ice Beam Snowcone!” he yelled with little choose.
Serperior flicked his tail and smashed it into Snowcone. It was at this point he realized that he was using a move, Leaf Blade.
Both his Ice Pokémon were out. Widow, he called out his Joltik, pity he never had to chance to use him and have him evolve. It scurried across the open land and jumped up on to Serperior. “Bug bite him repeatedly.” Serperior started to squirm around as if he had in itch he couldn’t scratch. Finally it leaped up through the trees and hit every branch going up and again coming down. Joltik hit the ground in front of Serperior at which point he flung him aside with a swipe of his tail.
“Damn, him too. Screw this, time for power. Golem attack!” Golem rose to his feet and moved across the clearing in two strides.
Serperior finally saw an opponent he thought worthy of his true power.
“Hammer Arm!” he drove his arm into the ground with unseen speed and power only to find Serperior had moved and it missed him entirely. He wrapped himself around Golem and squeezed. Golem could maneuver just enough to grab Serperior’s body and rip him off. He didn’t let go, he drove Serperior into the ground with the power of Dynamic Punch behind it. Serperior launched Leech seed but it was smacked aside by Golem’s massive hand. Serperior then hit him with Giga Drain, one move that could cripple any ground type. He raised his tail for Leaf Blade but Golem used Iron Defense to weaken it. Rachael was busy treating Slice who was badly hurt from his encounter. He called out Braviary to assist Golem. “Sky Drop Braviary.” He swooped over and latched his talons into Serperior. “When he drops him Golem you Focus Punch him!”
“Golurk.” he said with a nod.
“BRAV!” That was the signal.
As soon as he was in sight Golem Focus Punched him back up into the sky. The combined attack was devastating but Serperior endured. “Superpower Braviary!” Since Serperior was airborne there was little he could do to block the attack. He hit the ground. “HEAVY SLAM!” Golem leaped up and plummeted to the ground crushing Serperior into the soaking wet ground. He rose covered in mud, Patrick wasted no time he threw his poké ball. It struck Serperior in the head, it wiggle one then exploded open. To easy he thought.
Slice knocked aside Rachael’s hand as she tried to treat him and blasted across the arena laying into Serperior with savage rage. After only seconds the green of Serperior was now a bright shade of red. Patrick again threw a poké ball. It wiggled once… twice… thrice… four…five… “Damn he’s a fighter.” Six and finally it stopped and he received a message on his xtransceiver. Transfer Y/N? He pressed N. After several minutes of quiet Kris peered out of her tent.
”Did it win and leave yet?”
“Excuse me? What makes you assume it won?”
Like you could beat it. She snidely said.
He tossed out the ball. Serperior sprang forth.
“SERP!” he cried.
“AHHH!” she cried leaping back into the tent. “What was that?”
The sky was starting to lighten. “I say we head back to the city have our Pokémon treated and come back to look for more what do you say Rachael?”
Sounds good. I want to play with my new Panpour, he was cute.”
“I want to look over Pansage too.” With that they packed up their gear, got his spare tent back from Kris and headed back to Nacrene City. The journey back to the city was uneventful and wet. Minutes after they had started out the constant rain had picked up and the wind that accompanied it didn’t help.
They arrived at the Pokémon center and before they checked in their Pokémon Patrick accessed his transfer ball and transferred Serperior so his ball would be free. He then withdrew him and they gave their Pokémon to the nurse. Rachael did the same with her Panpour. Kris was also there she had to bring in her Deino who was hurt from the beating it got last night.
“I wonder how long it will take?” Rachael asked. “If we were home I would know, but here?”
“I say we get some food while we wait. Being up all night has got me really hungry.”
“There is a diner close to the Museum called Café Warehouse. We could go there and get breakfast.” Rachael replied as she noticed Kris was listening.
They had a nice breakfast and got something to go for lunch and dinner so they could stay in the forest through the night. As they returned to the Pokémon center the rain had cleared out and the sun had started to shine. They got their Pokémon and having already withdrawn their new ones from the box they headed out.
“I can’t wait to use Panpour.” Rachael commented walking back to the forest.
“That may prove to be rather difficult.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah it’s a forest mostly plant and bug Pokémon here. Waters not so good against them.” He said.
“I know that, and I didn’t mean here, I can’t wait to use him when the opportunity comes.”
“I would like to use Tirtouga more but he won’t do well here either.” She said with a side glance at Patrick.
“That reminds me, I didn’t even get to see which one I got. First thing I do when we get to the forest, find a Pokémon and use my fossil.”
They finally got back the heavy tree line of the denser part of the forest. “Let’s see what we can find.” Patrick said pushing his way through the waist high grass.
“Sewaddle.”
“Veni.” Replied with a slight hiss.
They slowed and crouched down so they were hidden by the grass. Patrick slowly moved forward and carefully pulled the grass aside to see what was going on. “It seems to be a Sewaddle and a Venipede having a disagreement over something.” He muttered back to Rachael.
“Are you going to catch one?” she inquired.
“I wasn’t thinking of it, I don’t care for Venipede, and Sewaddle isn’t my type.”
She pushed up next to him. “I like the little green one.” she said after getting a good look.
“It’s a bug, you know that right?”
She just gave him a ‘well no duh’ look.
“Fine. I’ll draw the Venipede away and you go for the Sewaddle.” He planned out.
“Fangs.” She called out. He tossed out his fossil ball.
“Archen.” He screaked popping out. Patrick quickly scanned him and skipping the description scanned his moves quickly as his cry alerted the Pokémon to their presents.
“Wing attack the Venipede.”
“Fangs Dragon claw the green one.”
“Axe.” He cried out running the Sewaddle down.
The Venipede rolled over after taking the hit and curled up.
“Defense Curl.”
“Shut up, I know.” he said snapping the dex shut. “Quick Attack Archen.” The Venipede was quick too it lashed its tail out as Archen swooped in for the attack and was struck with Poison Tail. “Wing Attack again.” Archen was slowed as the poison coursed through his system. The Venipede leaped into the air and bit into Archen wing throwing him off balance and plowing into the ground. “Flicker.” he called out his Lampent.
Rachael’s fight was going significantly better. After the first Dragon Claw the Sewaddle tried to shoot Fangs with String Shot and retreat. “Slash him Fangs.” He slashed him across the face, really the only place that he could reach easy. She threw her poké ball and caught the Sewaddle easy. She transferred it. She turned back to see how Patrick was fairing. She saw Archen hit the ground hard, and Flicker appear.
“Inferno Flicker!” He shouted. The light in his globe burned brighter, then he unleashed the inferno on the Venipede. When the smoke cleared the Venipede was laying on the ground actually smoking covered in black marks. Patrick threw the poké ball and caught him and transferred him.
They stopped for a moment to look at Archen. “He’s poisoned.” Rachael said pulling a bag of berries out of her nurse kit she now carried everywhere. She then had Audino Heal Pulse him.
“Before we go can you show me what Fangs will evolve into?” Rachael asked.
“Sure.” He said pulling out the Pokédex and scrolling to his file. “Here, a Fraxure.”
“I don’t like that.” she said making a face.
“Don’t you want a Haxorus?” he asked showing her that picture.
“No. He’s cute now, those, aren’t. Isn’t there some way to prevent evolution?”
“There are certain items you can give them but I don’t know what they are exactly, I overheard someone at the park talking about them one day, but he didn’t say what they were.”
“I’ll have to find out before he tries to evolve. So what do we look for now?” she asked.
That’s the question, there are several Pokémon in this forest. Birds, bugs, and plants, and according to what this says two fighters.”
“Fighters?”
“Throh and Sawk. Doubt we will see them they are said to be rare.”
“Let’s look for some that are more common. I want to catch not search.”
They trudged through the tall grass coming across nothing for awhile. “I wonder what happened to all the Pokémon?” Rachael said.
“The weather cleared out, I thought they would be more abundant now.”
“Pidove.” They heard from overhead.
“Do we really want one?” Patrick said. I have a bird so I don’t.”
“I want to catch not search. Problem is I have nothing to use against them since they are in the trees. If they were down here. I could.”
“Here.” He said handing her a poké ball.
“KLINKLANG!”
“I don’t want to have to use yours when I can’t reach them.”
“Catch one and you won’t have to.”
“Ok, Mechanicum Discharge.” He just floated there.
“Discharge.” Again nothing. I think he’s broken. You got the warranty right?”
“KLINKLANG!” he said throwing off a few sparks.
“Careful he’s not as understanding as Slice is.”
“But Slice isn’t understanding at all. Oh.”
“Exactly.”
“Mechanicum do as she says, you hear me?”
“LANG.”
“Good.”
“Discharge.” Finally he whirled to full speed and shot lightning up into the treetop bring down three Pidove and a Tranquill.
“Which one do I want? Pidove or Tranquill.”
“Decide quick, the Tranquill is getting up and he looks quite pissed.”
“You take him I want the small one.” She said coming to a decision.
“Fine.” He said not really wanting him. But he wasn’t going to fight it and not catch it.
He called out Eelektrik. The Tranquill was uninterested in him it was staring at the offending Pokémon Mechanicum.
“Let’s get his attention. Use Thunderbolt.”
He stiffened for a second then blasted the Tanquill with thunderbolt. To Patrick’s surprise it rose, all be it slow and unsteady but it had persevered.
“I thought that would be all it took. Do it again.” Again he blasted Tranquill with Thunderbolt and he collapsed. He tossed the ball and it was his.
Rachael’s fight was just as easy. She called A few Thudershock’s which she could tell Mechanicum didn’t like holding back. She knocked out two she tossed the ball and caught one, and decided she couldn’t just leave the other one so she caught it too.
“Did you just catch two Pidoves?”
“Yes.”
“Ok just making sure I wasn’t going crazy.”
“Let’s stop for Lunch it’s got to be time for that I’m hungry.”
“It’s around noon.” he said looking at his watch. “So why’d you catch two?”
“I didn’t see a reason to knock him out and not catch him, plus now they both have a friend.” She explained as she pulled out the food.
They were relaxing after their lunch when they heard a lot of indistinct noise coming from a short distance way. “Let’s go see what’s going on.” Rachael said as she got up and headed for the noise.
“Ok lets go.” he said unimportantly.
It was through the trees a good distance. It appeared to be a trainer with two water Pokémon out, but she couldn’t see what they were doing. “So what’s going on?” Patrick asked her.
“I can’t tell, all I can see is he has out some water Pokémon.”
“Let’s go, it’s probably not interesting.” It was at that point that he saw the kick, heard a whimper and the trainer started laughing. “On second thought I don’t like the sound of that.” He said standing up and stepping out of the forest. Now that he was standing he could see the third Pokémon. It was the third monkey, the red one, Pansear.
It saw him, the trainer noticed the direction of the gaze and saw Patrick too. “What do you want?” Just from the wording and the hostility he knew what he was doing wasn’t good.
“The question is what are you doing?” Patrick responded.
“I’m catching this Pokémon.”
“Doesn’t look like it. If you were it would be in a poké ball by now.” Patrick glanced at the guys belt and saw just two balls. “And it doesn’t look like you can catch him anyway. I suggest you either catch or let it go.”
“Who are you the game warden?”
“You could say that.” he said evaluating the guys Pokémon. One was a Dewott, but one was three foot tall, red, with pinchers and a yellow star on his head. Rachael said water types so she most have seen one before, he hadn’t.
“Shut up and go away, you’re starting to bother me.”
“I said stop.”
“Make me.”
“Do you really want me to make you?” Patrick inquired.
“I don’t think you can.”
A smile spread across Patrick’s face. “Really?” he called out Eelektrik.
“Yeah big man using electric against water real tough.” The guy responded.
“It’s called strategy.”
“I call it cheating.” The guy replied.
“Fine.” he said shaking his head. “What would you rather I use to beat you?”
“You little punk.”
“I have a ground type if you prefer?”
“I’m not falling for that.”
“Fine, pick one from my belt.” Patrick said. Patrick was just trying to distract him and his Pokémon while the Pansear slipped away, which he had.
“I don’t have time for this.” He turned back to the Pansear that was gone. “What the hell?” he directed a kick to Dewott. “Why weren’t you watching him?”
“Wott!” he replied but didn’t retaliate.
“Fine, you’re going down now punk.”
Patrick reached down. “You got a choice, quick or slow.”
“Quick or slow what?”
“Your defeat, my Pokémon’s speed, it depends. You will lose I guarantee you that. So choose.”
“Slow Pokémon.” The trainer replied.
“So quick defeat then?”
“Just shut up and call it.”
“Ok. Golem go.”
This Trainer being from another region thought he knew Golem. “Golem’s a rock type are you stupid?” Then he saw him standing before him, nine feet tall and as big as a house.
“GOLURK!”
“That’s not a Golem…”
“That’s his name, not his kind.”
It was then that the guy saw Rachael standing behind Patrick and seemingly defenseless.
“How about I attack her instead?” a smile spreading across his face.
“Go ahead and try.” Patrick replied.
She pulled out Mechanicum, she was still carrying him from earlier.
“You really don’t have a choice but to fight, and lose.”
“You really think I have only two Pokémon? He pulled two balls from his pocket. “Return Dewott and Crawdaunt.” He then pulled one from his belt and tossed it.
“Salamence.” It was a blue dragon with red wings that only stood about five feet tall.
“Anything else, something more impressive?”
“I’ll show you. Metagross.”
“META!” the four legged steel Pokémon cried out as he emerged. It was five feet tall and twice as wide, he had a giant cross on his face and red eyes.
This could be a problem he thought although careful not to let that show. A steel Pokémon he knew they were vulnerable to fire, he only had one, and despite his small nature he was powerful, although he didn’t think he was powerful enough to take on that. “Ok let’s go. Which one are you using first?” Patrick asked.
“Salamence.” The trainer replied.
“Fine.” He thought of recalling his Golem but decided against it.
“Salamence Dragon breath.”
“Golem Heavy Slam.” He started with his end all move, he didn’t think it would be a one hit knock out but he wanted to put as much hurt as he could and as fast as he could.
Golem leapt up as avoided the Dragon breath in the process, he landed on Salamence who tried to side step it. The Salamence somehow threw Golem off yet they could see he was already ready to give in. “Crunch Salamence!”
“Hammer Arm.”
The Hammer Arm connected with the open maw of Salamence and he was thrown back several feet. He rose slowly. “Double-edge.”
“Heavy Slam again.” He leapt again, this time Salamence was too injured to move quick enough and he was crushed under the immense weight of Golem.
“Metagross Hyper Beam!” He unleashed a beam of light that fully engulfed Golem. The beam just broke around him leaving him unharmed. “What the hell?”
“Ghost type.” Patrick replied scanning Metagross with his Pokédex. He knew nothing of it. Looking at its stats he realized Heavy Slam would have no effect at all, Metagross was nearly double Golem’s weight. This wasn’t a battle this was just a fight his intervening with Metagross proved that. He didn’t have to play by the rules now. He now saw something interesting. “Golem Earthquake!”
Metagross rode the quake easily, motioning his quad legs to absorb the shockwaves of the ground. Patrick wondered for a second if Slice would be more effective, but push it aside, he had to have confidence in Golem’s ability to crush his enemy.
“Metagross Bullet Punch!” he jumped in front of Golem and balancing on his back legs he pummeled Golem with his front ones.
Golem and Metagross traded blows for the next few minutes neither showing signs of injury or fatigue. These two could go at it all day and night Patrick thought, there was no end. Then there was. It came out of nowhere, and took Metagross completely by surprise. He was just finishing a Bullet Punch on Golem and stepped back. He was immediately hit with a Flame Burst that seemed to originate from the tree line. It was followed by a second and third one in rapid succession. “Dewott get him.” The thug said tossing out his Pokémon.
Patrick quickly tossed out Joltik. “Widow Electroweb.” Dewott was pinned to a tree unable to reach his shell so he could not slash through the webbing. He had to put this guy down. “Flicker Inferno!” The Metagross was engulfed in the enormous blaze of fire. A trimmer rippled through the ground and Patrick knew Metagross had collapsed. The flames died, the Metagross was down and showed no signs of rising. “Now it’s over, go.” Patrick told him. The guy rushed Patrick throwing punches, Patrick backed away to avoid his quick strikes. Suddenly the trainer was lifted from the ground and pinned to a tree about eight feet up. With was about the high of Golem’s arm being straight.
“Let me down!” Golem looking to Patrick who gave a nod, still holding him to the tree Golem let him slid down the trunk to the ground.
“If he lets you go are you going to leave or attack me again?” Patrick asked already knowing the answer. He turned to Rachael who was standing behind him slightly worried moments before for his safety. “Get the blade ball out of my bag.” He had taken to putting stickers of pictures or letters so he could quickly identify his Pokémon and call out the necessary one.
“Yeah sure.” the thug said. Patrick heard no truth in the statement. As soon as he was free he would come at him again.
“Ok, but I warn you, if you don’t my enforcer will stop you, and I don’t mean him.” He said seeing the thug glance at the Golem.
“Enforcer.” He heard the thug mutter. Patrick heard the distinct sound of metal on metal, he smiled.
“Let him go Golem.” Patrick said. The thug pulled his poké ball out and recalled Dewott and as he turned he tried a sucker punch. He hand stopped in midair inches from Patrick’s jaw who hadn’t moved. The thug saw the arm, the silver and black arm of a Pokémon, and on his arm was a large blade. Patrick moved aside and there was Slice his Bisharp.
“Sharp!” he cried as he punched the thug in the gut sending him sliding along the ground back into the tree.
“I told you.” The thug slowly got up and walked away. “It would have been worse had you hit me.” he called after him.
“What’s with all the tough talk? You don’t usually act that way.” Rachael inquired.
“If you don’t show force or authority in the park punks will just ignore you or push you around. You should have heard Jess the other day.” He added that last part as an afterthought.
They continued to look for Pokémon, it was slow going, and they saw several that they had caught earlier but not a new one. They stopped to rest for a while. The sun was sinking lower and lower killing the day light available to hunt with. “There are two more besides the fighters we haven’t seen yet.”
“Which ones?” She inquired.
These.” he said showing her the Petilil and Cottonee.
“Why do they look vaguely familiar?”
“Lisa, hers are the evolved form.” He answered.
I wouldn’t mind getting one? How about you?” she asked.
“No, not really my type.”
“Not that attitude again.”
“What do you mean?”
“They’re too girly is what you are thinking isn’t it?” she accused.
“No I have Serperior he is Grass type and far stronger than them. Of course now that you bring it up it is kind of girly.”
She put a mock look of anger on her face and playfully slapped his shoulder. He rolled over and pinned her wrist to the ground beside her head and started kissing her neck and shoulder. He never had trouble holding her down and the constant workout he got from the Wildlife Park made him even stronger. She tried to break free laughing the entire time. He finally stopped. “We really should continue if we want to catch any more today.” He said kissing her on the lips and getting up.
They continued till there was very little light left. “I guess we aren’t going to have any luck. “Want to set up camp here?”
“Go ahead I’m going to look around this area before I give up.” She said and set off.
“Slice.” he called, he was still out since he called him out earlier “Guard duty.”
“Sharp.” he said with a nod.
“Zoroark.” he spoke as he was called out.
“Follow Rachael, protect her only if she needs help. Understand?”
“Zoro.” He spoke and ghosted off.
He was resting by the fire he could see Slice walking around the area. Flicker was nearby as he had started the fire and Mienfoo was right beside him.
“Sharp.” he heard Slice call. It wasn’t a cry of alarm just a heads up. Zoroark appeared beside him and sat down as if he had always been there, seconds later Rachael walked into the fire light.
“Guess what?” She said a little disappointed.
“You didn’t find anything.”
“Nope.” She said obviously lying judging by the look on her face.
“You found something?” he looked up surprised.
The huge grin was spreading across her face as she nodded. She tossed her ball. A Shower of stars and a Cottonee appeared. Instead of the white body and green leaves, it was a yellow tint with orange leaves and the eyes were green. The colors of the leaves and eyes had switched. He noticed remembering the picture from the dex. “So tell me what happened.”
“Oh it was a breeze.” She said offhand.
“Zoro.” Shadow said with a chuckle.
“How would you now?” she said. Then knowing dawned on her face. “Did you have him follow me?” she said, this time her anger was real but slight.
“Yeah I did.” He replied with no hint of guilt.
“Why?” she asked her voice rising.
“To make sure you were safe. I make no apology for that.” He said.
Her anger melted away. “Ok. So I was walking around the area, and its dark, so I couldn’t see too well. I stepped on some Pokémon it didn’t appreciate that. It tried to attack me, it was a Venipede. I called out Digger to deal with him.” Patrick glanced at Shadow for confirmation. He made no noise or movement. “Then I saw the Cottonee hop out of the trees, I think it was startled by the noise. So I called out Axew to attack the Cottonee, I noticed the coloration and just had to catch it. The Venipede knocked Digger down with one of his moves. I thought it was over but…” she stopped and looked at Shadow, he had made no noise but he was slightly shaking, suppressing a laugh. “You did something.” He mimed grabbing the Venipede made a lasso and throwing move. “So with two free Pokémon” she continued still looking at Shadow, “the Cottonee was easy. I got him. I don’t know what it knows, and I don’t care, it’s cute.” She concluded. She called out her Audino and Heal Pulsed all the Pokémon that seemed to need it. They had dinner and feed their Pokémon and recalled all but Slice who was on watch.
They were laid out by the dying fire looking up at the stars. “This is so peaceful.” Rachael said.
“Every moment with you is peaceful.” He replied.
“I would hope not.” she said with a telling smile.
“Well besides those moments.” He said. He rolled over onto her and held her down again.
“Picking up where you left off?” she asked.
“Exactly.”
“Go lower.” He moved down to her chest and opened her shirt, there was no need to hold her. He licked her breast that wasn’t cover by her bra. “Lower.” she said again. Her breathing getting heavier. He moved down to her stomach and placed a series of kissing around her belly button causing her to giggle. “Lower please.” she moaned as her pleasure built. He pulled her skirt off with her panties and kissed her right above her clit. “Lower.” she moaned almost inaudible. He placed his mouth on her slit and created suction. “OH YEAH!” she cried as he probed his tongue into her making circles inside. She bucked into his face and moments later came all over his face. He reached down and undid his pants and kneeled between her legs. He pushed into her going slow and sensual, rocking back and forth slowly gaining speed, her breathing coming faster and faster. As she approached another orgasm he speed up to full speed pounding into her his legs slapping against her butt as he drove into her, she came again in a scream of pleasure and moments later he did too.
They laid there coming down from the high. “I think we should get some sleep so we can hunt for some more tomorrow.” She said as she got up and headed to the tent.
“Good idea, don’t want to miss a good one.” He said noting full well that another shiny was unlikely.
I couldn’t have been two hours later when they heard a bunch of noise from outside. Patrick was surprised that Slice hadn’t called out, he usually did even if he didn’t need help. Then he thought maybe somebody had knocked him out.
“Sharp.” No there he was. He thought. He rose and headed out, there was Slice holding a Pansear down.
Is that the same one from earlier?” Rachael asked from behind him.
“Maybe. Slice release.” Patrick ordered.
“Bis.” he said releasing his hold.
“Do you remember me?” he asked the Pansear in a comforting manner.
“Pan.” he answered in a quivering muted tone, he was clearly frightened.
“Rachael get him food please.” She moved away to get it for him.
“Here.” he said handing him the food bowl Rachael had given him.
“Pan?” he said again questioning if it was for him.
“All for you.” Patrick replied.
“Shaaarp.” He heard Slice mutter.
“Quiet Slice.”
After he finished eating he looked around the area. Taking in the fire and tent.
“Are you ok?” Patrick asked him.
“Pan.” he replied with a nod.
“That’s good. I was hoping as much. What are you going to do now?”
“Pan.” he replied with a shrug.
“I could use a strong Pokémon like you do you want to come with me?”
“Pan?”
“Here.” he pulled out the transfer ball. “Press this button and you can come with me. You might have fun.”
“Sharp, sharp, Bisharp.”
Pan?”
“Sharp.” He replied with a nod.
He turned and slammed his hand on the button.
They returned to the tent to get some sleep. “”I guess we have to return to town tomorrow I have a promise to keep.” He said.
“You do know this is our third day right?” Rachael said as they headed back to the city.
“Yeah I know. You know what that means?”
“What?” she asked knowing full well what.
“Gym Battle.”
“Really?”
“Yes. Right after I get Pansear and the others healed. I’m headed to the gym you can come or not but that’s where I’m going.”
“I’m not going to let you go alone, I wouldn’t do that.” She replied.
“It won’t take long.”
“You sound confident.”
“I’ve been studying the gym leaders and this one I can take, I have Bender and Mienfoo. Why do you think I’ve been training him so much?” He said as they entered the center. He walked up to the desk and handed her all his Pokémon that needed healing as did Rachael.
“It’ll be just a few minutes.” the nurse told them.
They had a seat to wait, “Before you go to the gym we should get something to eat don’t want you fighting on an empty stomach.” Rachael said.
“That’s a good point we will, but I know you only said that so you can try and talk me out of it. I’m not going to lose there is no way.” He reassured her. He pulled out Bender’s ball it was marked with a girder. “Get one of your Poké balls.”
“Why?”
“I need you to trade me something for Bender.”
“But you need him for the gym.”
“I know, and I want him evolved.” He told her.
“Ok.” she grabbed her Panpour and they headed over to the trade station.
Gurdurrs ball popped out the other side and opened. He started to glow, he didn’t grow by much just a little under a foot but he grew outward and the girder he was holding morphed into two concrete pillars. “Conkeldurr.” He spoke in his new deep voice. She recalled him and they traded them back.
“He is surprisingly fast for such a big Pokémon, against a Pidove or other lite or aerial Pokémon he can’t match their speed but he can really move.” He told her as he called him back out and had him move around. He also called out Mienfoo and had him warm up as well. “Remember we were chased by a pack and I’m sure he was in the lead.”
The nurse called them over and returned their Pokémon. “Thank you come back and see us again.”
They headed out of the center and to the Warehouse Café where they had breakfast. Then it was off to the Gym.
“And I always have back up.” he said.
Which one is that?” She asked.
“Slice of course. He won’t accept defeat.”
They entered the Museum again. How may I help you? The desk girl asked.
“Where is the gym?”
“Head back to the library and take the stairs next to the book case.”
“Thank you.” He said and headed off.
They entered the library and saw the same guy from the first day. Hawes the assistant director. “Hello may I assist you?”
“We are just headed to the gym.”
“Right over there.” he motioned to the stairs.
They descended the stairs. The term gym was used loosely here as it was just a Pokémon ring. At the other end of the room was a desk which at it sat the Museum Director/Gym Leader.
“Greetings.” She said standing up. “I am Lenora Leader of the Nacrene City Gym. Are you here to challenge me for a badge?”
“Yes.” he said.
“Alright the rules are two Pokémon, one-on-one, KO ending. Agreed?”
“Yes.” He replied.
“Alright call your first Pokémon, Hawes will be the ref.” she said as he seemed to appear behind them.
He called out Mienfoo. She called out Herdier. “Ready?” Hawes called. They both gave a nod. “Fight.”
Before any command was given Herdier was moving across the arena. He was right in front of Mienfoo in seconds and she called “Crunch.” He had seconds to react.
“Force Palm.” Herdier came up with his jaws wide open but the force palm smacked him square in the nose sending him rolling back. He rebounded quickly.
“Take down Herdier.” She called. He charged and crashed into Mienfoo before he could react.
Mienfoo pushed himself up and “Drain Punch” he called. He darted towards Herdier and struck him with Drain Punch, sucking his energy from him.
“Take Down Herdier.”
“Jump Kick.” The attack was devastating with Herdier rushing forward to deliver Take Down and meeting the approaching foot of Mienfoo, Herdier was thrown out of the ring from the force of the two moves combined.
“KO.” Hawes called.
Lenora called out her Watchog.
Patrick recalled Mienfoo and called out Bender. She was surprised at his change. Changing his Pokémon he realized he eliminated his safety of Slice but he knew Bender could do it.
“Ready?” the both nodded. “Fight!”
“Hyper Fang.”
“Hammer Arm.” He swung his arm and connected it with the side of Watchog face sending him sliding to the edge of the arena. He jumped up.
“Super Fang.” Lenora called.
“Deflect it.” He leapt at Bender but was batted aside with one of his pillars. “DynamicPunch.” He dropped his pillars and charged across the arena Watchog tried to dodge but Bender matched his every move until he was too close, and in the last foot he jumped and slammed his fist into Watchog’s face causing him to crumple to the ground. He didn’t move for few minutes.
“KO!” Hawes called. “Win to the Challenger!”
“Congratulations!” Lenora said walking over to him. “You did very well. Here you go your Nacrene City Gym Badge.” He pinned it to his jacket next to his only other one, the Jet Badge. “I guess I need to train more you beat me fairly easy.”
“It wasn’t that easy I trained a lot to be sure I was ready.”
“Well you certainly were.” She said then Hawes led them out. They continued on outside.
“You did great.” Rachael told him when they were outside. “Just wait till we get home.”
“That’s going to have to wait, the flight is in the evening.” He told her.
“Should we go back to the forest or just wait here, which would be boring.” She asked.
“Well we caught most of the different Pokémon, so what do you want to do?” He replied.
“I say we go back and see if we can find some more.” She replied.
“Ok let’s hurry. We have a time limit today.”
They headed for the main area of the forest hoping to see something they hadn’t. Then Rachael said “You know we haven’t been this way.”
“That’s not really part of the forest the trees are light and sparsely packed. We probably won’t find much that way.”
“Let’s just see, we didn’t really come to catch Pokémon did we?” She asked.
Well I did he thought but said nothing just shrugged. They headed that way. They saw dozens of Pidoves but that’s wasn’t unusual and a hint of a Tympole here and there. “I think I saw a Timburr.” Rachael said.
“Yeah that was one.”
“I like this area, it’s nice and peaceful.”
“Yeah its quiet alright.” He said. As in nothing to catch he thought.
“What’s that?” she said suddenly grabbing his arm. It was a pair of eyes staring in their direction from a cluster of bushes close to the path.
“Looks like an ambush.” He said as he reached for Slice’s ball, and called him out. He heard a rustle from the bushes and figured he got their attention. “Let's keep moving, if anything happens Slice can deal with it.” Slice looked around for the reason he was called out. He saw nothing.
“Sharp!” he called sharply and looking around.
“Merely a precaution Slice, I don’t need any surprises.” Patrick responded.
“Sha—” he was cut off as he heard the rustle and spun around. Scanning the bushes he finally saw the eyes staring at him, and leapt at them. He hacked the bushes to pieces. The Pokémon hidden within responded with a Low Sweep send Slice cashing to the ground. He jumped up and raked the blue face with a Metal claw attack. Patrick recognized the Pokémon, it was the same one the bodybuilder in the Mistralton City Park had. He couldn’t place its name.
“SAAAWWWK!” it screamed grabbing its face and staggering back. Patrick took a few seconds to take in its features, long, lean and one eyebrow. He was wearing what appeared to be a karate outfit, where he got it is a mystery. The Sawk then jumped back in to action and Patrick had no more time to wonder.
“Iron Head attack.” He said having no real need to command Slice he could handle it himself. The Iron head move connected as a glancing blow as the Sawk dodged. Planting a Karate Chop on Slice, somehow avoiding the blade covered areas which were few. Slice growing tired of the constant painful shots, swung Iron Head and as Sawk dodged he mauled him with Metal Claw until he put up no more fight. Slice stepped back allowing Patrick to throw his ball and catch the Sawk.
“Well that was nice.” Rachael said.
“That was Slice being crazy. I wouldn’t have him any other way.” Patrick replied. “Good Job Slice.” He called to him.
They made their way further down the path coming to a giant rock jutting up from the ground. It had a sign in front of it: Challenge Rock.
“Huh that’s interesting.” He said. He then looked around. “The path is looping back on itself lets head back to the city and see if there is a movie theater and if they have a good movie playing.”
“Ok.” Rachael agreed.
They arrived back in Nacrene City in no time at all, locating the nearest movie theater they headed in a passed the remaining time watching movies.
After three movies it was time for their flight so they headed to the airstrip, and were soon on their way home. They landed around sunset, Patrick grabbed his xtransceiver and called Greg. “Hey Greg we just got in, are you going to be working tomorrow?”
“Yeah.”
“We would like to invite you and the girls over for a party tomorrow night. If I can’t get ahold of Jess and Alex would tell them?”
“Yeah sure no problem. Right after work right?”
“Yep.”
“Alright see you then.”
He called Alex but she didn’t answer but he was able to get ahold of Jess while Rachael called Lisa and Penelope.
“Lisa said she can make it and so can Penelope.”
“I told Jess she said she can make it too, but Alex didn’t answer. I’m sure Greg will see her tomorrow.”
“Let’s go home I have to congratulate you on your Gym victory.”
She was in a hurry to get home as she nearly dragged him to their apartment. She was pulling off her clothes as soon as she hit the bedroom. “Come here.” she said dropping her shorts to the floor. All she had left on was a bra and a sheer pair of panties, Green to set off her hair. He walked over to her and she pulled his shirt off and pushed him over to the bed and down on it grabbing his pants and pulling them off as well. She then jumped on to his stomach and started kissing him all over his face. She stopped and turned around putting her ass in his face “Take off my panties, and no hands.” He pulled them down with his teeth smelling her aroma, she was highly aroused. He got them down to her knees when she stood up and finished removing them then returned to her kneeling position, she then pushed his boxers down and engulfed him to the base moving up and down slowly, she wiggled her ass to give him a clue. He dove in, she was dripping wet and moaning as soon as he started. She was licking and humming sending vibrations through his cock arousing him more and making him speed up. She could no longer hold it and released on his face, he licked up as much as he could but there was a lot. She returned to the sucking as her orgasm subsided and brought him off quick. She turned around and impaled herself on him riding him up and down in an ever quickening pace. Coming to orgasm again and finally bringing him to his second she collapsed on top of him resting her head on his chest. “MMM that was good.” she breathed as she fell asleep.
She woke up early the next morning to find him missing from bed, but the smell of food drifted in to the room delicious food at that. She hop out of bed grabbed her robe and made her way into the kitchen. “Morning.” he said as she entered.
“Morning. I didn’t know you could cook?” she replied quite surprised.
“Took a couple of lessons from mom a few months back. I was off, you were at work. I wanted to surprise you.”
“You did. What do you got?” she said taking a seat.
“Pancakes, sausage, bacon, and hash browns.”
“I can’t wait.”
They finished eating and moved to the couch. “We have to go get stuff for the party tonight and clean this place up.” He said. “You take one I’ll take the other?”
“And you leave me here to clean, not a chance.” She replied. “We both go and both clean. That way it will go twice as fast that way.”
They were leaving the store, she had taken one side he got the other, and were cutting across the park when “Hey!” he heard from off to their right.
“Oh dammit.” he recognized that voice.
The Rainbow Gang missing no one, but the one that called wasn’t Kris like last time. He hadn’t seen them for several weeks, now that he thought about it. “What the hell do you want?” he asked Scarlett the red head the one that had called.
“Where do you get off picking on Kris just because she was alone?”
“Really that’s what she told you?” he saw Kris in the back of the group shaking her head.
“She didn’t come out and say it, but we know what she meant.” Amber the blonde replied, so blonde it was bright yellow.
“Maybe you need to stop reading between the lines, you’re missing the story.”
“Shut up! We challenge you to a fight and this time we won’t lose.”
“You challenge us then.” Rachael said stepping up. “Two-on-two no Pokémon limit.”
“Agreed.” the girls chorused. Patrick saw a little internal debate, the others were trying to get Kris to fight and she was adamantly shaking her head. The girls called out their Pokémon and to his great surprise they all had a whole new array of color coded Pokémon along with their originals.
“Alright who the first victim?” Patrick said without any sense that he would be on the losing side.
Scarlett stepped up first “ME!”
“Just you or are you going to team up?” Patrick asked. Then Raven stepped up to join her.
An evil smile appeared on his face, Slice is going to love this he thought. He called out Slice and Rachael called out Digger her Drilbur.
Slice saw Scarlett and Raven and immediately started to sharpen his razor sharp blades then stopped and pointed at her “SHARP!” he yelled. Strangely they were unaffected by the theat.
They took their positions. “Fight.” Kris yelled apparently she was acting as ref.
“Dig Digger.”
“Slice, Kill.” Slice’s eyes flashed at the command.
“Zebstrika Discharge.” Raven called.
“Throh Seismic Toss.” Scarlett commanded. Both attacks were aimed at Slice, he dodged the Discharge and ran towards Throh to assault him, he threw a cut at Throh but he twisted to the right and using Slice’s motion he carried him through and preformed Seismic Toss. Zebstrika was struck with Dig sense he attacked Slice.
Slice pushed himself up and shook his head to shake off the blow. “Iron Head.” he heard called to him. He moved in again but was blocked my Zebstrika who collided into him with Wild Charge.
“They are targeting Slice only, I suggest Earthquake.” Patrick said to Rachael.
“That would hurt Slice too.”
“He’s going down anyway Throh will see to that and with Zebstrika blocking for him it will be near impossible to hit him. He replied. “Do it and you might eliminate Zebstrika.”
“Earthquake Digger.” Rachael called. Throh rode the waves far too easy. Zebstrika was tossed around like a rag doll, but not knocked out, Slice too was batted around but rode through it fairly easy.
“Superpower.” Scarlett whispered to Throh.
“Slice Iron Head attack.”
Zebstrika had been playing defense but know Rachael was going to take it out. “Mud-Slap.” Rachael called it smacked into Zebstrika face blinding him, unfortunately he wasn’t going to block the coming attack. “Dig.” Rachael called immediately following up the Mud-Slap, it stuck Zebstrika laying him out. Slice charged Throh who was standing there summoning his power. Right when Slice brought his head down for Iron Head, Throh swung back to avoid it and uppercut Slice sending him flying several yards in the air. Slice hit the ground and laid there unable to move. Patrick called out Golem.
“Zebstrika Wild Charge!” he had risen during the falling of Slice and saw an open shot on Digger as Rachael watched in awe as Slice was defeated, not something that happens often or ever before. Digger was rolled over by the attack.
“Earthquake.” Golem stomped him foot violently shaking the ground throwing Zebstrika, Throh rode it again as did Digger.
“Gothitelle.” Raven called.
“Vital Throw Throh.” Scarlett called. He hit Golem who just looked at him, he’s immune to that Patrick thought.
“Dynamic Punch.” Patrick said he just slammed his fist into the ground crushing Throh beneath it. Gothitelle launched a psychic attack at Golem. It brought him to his knees. Gothitelle was quickly hit with a Dig from Digger. “Shadow Punch the Gothitelle.” Patrick called. She had turned back to Digger who was getting off quite easy in this fight. The strike completely blindsided Gothitelle sending her sliding across the field.
“Metal Claw Digger.” Rachael said. He followed her as she slid and as she rose he raked her face with his claws. Throh was out cold he was laying in a fist shaped impression.
“Darmanitan.” Scarlett called. “Fire Punch.”
She couldn’t have called a worse move. “Focus Punch.” Patrick called.
She saw it seconds before it happened and “Stop Darmanitan!” But he was in midair and unable to cease his forward motion. Golems Fist glowed and as Darmanitan got in range Golem brought his fist up with devastating force. Darmanitan was launched into the air. A Psychic attack rippled across Golem seconds after the attack. Raven had tried to stop him when Scarlett called for Darmanitan to stop. Metal Claw was again raked across Gothitelle as she was distracted from Digger.
“Shadow Punch Golem.” Gothitelle was trapped between two crippling enemies. “Distract her” Patrick whispered to Rachael.
“Rapid Metal Claws.” She called. Gothitelle covered her face to block the relentless assault. A shadow covered them. Raven had been so engaged in holding her mental link and the fight she hadn’t seen Golem disappear.
“DIG, DIG, DIG.” Patrick said to Rachael.
She looked up and saw Golem descending “DIG DIGGER!” He hit the ground at the same time as Golem. “DIGGER!” she cried fearing he was crushed. The ground at her feet vibrated and he popped out. Golem rose and delivered one more Shadow Punch just to be sure Gothitelle was done.
“OVER.” Kris called. “Win to Patrick and Rachael.”
“You know why you lost right?” Patrick asked. “You attack one target and left Digger open to assault you.”
“We won’t do that again we got our target.” Scarlett responded. Patrick figured that was it, they wanted to beat Slice, that was the real motive to the fight. He decided if they did this again he wouldn’t use Slice.
Jade and Violet stepped up next. Jade had a Reuniclus, and Violet had a Haunter. “You really should have kept Woobat, he could be handy right now.”
“You can use him.” she said. “You don’t have one to take the psychic I do, Shadow.” He said tossing him out. “Oddly enough Ghosts are weak to Ghost moves.”
“So?” she said.
“Your Frillish is part ghost. Use her.”
I don’t think she is strong enough, she’s not a fighter.”
“Use her to distract the Haunter, I can deal with him in time.”
“Ok.” she said tossing out Frillish.
“Go.” Kris called once they were in position.
“Ren Psychic.” it passed over Shadow as he darted towards her.
“Night Daze.” His move hit Ren hard and he recoiled back.
“Haunter Shadow Ball.”
“Frillish Ominous Wind.” Rachael called. The two moves hit their target knocking both Pokémon down.
Apparently she doesn’t remember psychic can’t hurt dark type Patrick thought.
“Dizzy Punch Ren.” He moved in to deliver it but was caught by a Night Slash to his face. Shadow was just as crafty as Slice only a little less psychotic and bloodthirsty. He knew how to handle a psychic type enemy.
“Recover Ren.”
“Night Daze again.”
It hit Ren before he was fully done with recover so he got it full force.
“Shadow ball Haunter!”
“Ominous Wind again.”
They were exchanging blows but Frillish was weaker and losing the battle. While Shadow did his own thing Patrick quickly evaluated the battle, he could have Shadow take Haunter after Ren was beat and have Rachael call out a bird to distract Jade’s plant types.
“When Frillish is down call a bird.” he said.
“Right.” she replied. Minutes later Frillish took a Shadow Ball and fell. “Swoop.” she called. It was the male Pidove she had caught in the forest. It took flight and under Rachael’s command made Air Cutter attacks on the Haunter while his attacks could be dodged with relative ease.
“Night Slash.” Patrick called to Shadow, he raked Ren with it and he fell.
“Lilligant, Leaf storm.” Jade called.
“Night Daze on the Haunter Shadow.” He flew across the field and slammed Haunter with Night Daze a crippling dark type move bringing him to his knees, if he had them that is. “Night Slash.” He immediately delivered it almost before Patrick called it. He later wondered if Shadow would have done it anyway without being told or he just reacted that fast to the order. Haunter was out. Pidove was caught in the Leaf Storm Lilligant called. He was flying towards Shadow who caught him. Shadow proceeded to throw him towards Lilligant fastball style.
“Air Cutter.” Rachael called when she saw him do it. Although the look of horror was evident on her face as he did it. The air cutter hit Lilligant but it was a powerful Pokémon and incurred little damage from the bird.
Patrick recalled Shadow in favor of a type advantage, “Yeti.” Out popped a small white bear with a lite blue head. He only stood one and a little over a half foot he was only one third of Lilligant’s height, the girls all started to laugh, Patrick did too but for a different reason, he was stronger. “Slash.” He leapt at the Lilligant and slashed her, the Lilligant recoiled in pain. He called right after “Fury Swipes” ripping into Lilligant. Violet had called out her Leipard which was now engaged with Pidove. He was flinging sand attacks at him but his agility was high and he dodged them easy, and retaliated with Quick Attacks. He turned back to his fight. The laughing had died as the girls saw the power of the tiny teddy bear. He called another Slash attack and didn’t see the green energy ball gathering in Lilligant’s crown. She flung it at Yeti striking him and throwing him back at Patrick’s feet. “Come on get up, you can take her Yeti.”
“Cubchoo!” he confirmed with a nod of his head.
“Powder Snow.” It was a weak ice move but it was the only one he had. Funny he thought for an Ice Pokémon he had few ice moves. Yeti opened his mouth and shot out a flurry of snow striking Lilligant, and as he predicted it recoiled in pain under the ice move. He glanced at Rachael’s fight, the Leipard was now leaping at Pidove trying to land a Slash attack, missing every time. Then he got a lucky shot, as Pidove dived Leipard leapt up he swiped Pidove who hit the ground. He struggled to rise and spread his wings. He glowed and grew an extra foot in height. They all stopped to watch this.
“Tranquill!” it called out.
“Roost Swoop!” He recovered his health.
Patrick had to return to his fight or lose.
“Yeti Slash.”
“Leaf Storm.” The leaves swirled slicing Yeti and Tranquill. He had been training Yeti and Solider his Aron in his free time, he had to be close to evolution. “Energy Ball!” she called as the storm was dying. It struck Yeti rolling him back to Patrick’s feet. Patrick tossed him a berry as he rose. He bit into it, and was engulfed in a bright light, he grew to a massive eight foot tall. He bellowed a roar that got the attention of people in the opposite side of the park.
“BEARTIC!”
Patrick just smiled “Slash.”
“Bear!” he leapt across the field and slashed deep into Lilligant.
“Fury Swipes.” He called right after he slashed. Yeti continued to rake at Lilligant with his massive claws starting to draw lots of blood, he finished with a right cross. Lilligant collapsed in a small pool of blood. Rachael and Violet were both watching this fight completely forgetting they were engaged in their own.
Rachael was the first to realize and “Air Cutter.” It wasn’t enough to hurt Leipard.
“Maractus.” Jade called.
“Switch.” Patrick said. “Slash attack on Leipard Yeti.”
“Air Cutter on the…green one.” Rachael said.
Under the relentless assault from Yeti Leipard fell to the ground.
Patrick stopped to watch Rachael deal with the Maractus. “Air Cutter.” She called. While he watched her fight he recalled the girl had names for her Pokémon ones he couldn’t or care to remember, he also noticed she wasn’t using them either.
The Maractus wasn’t going to lose this battle he saw, it was only a matter of time before it struck hard. He only had to wait a few more minutes. “Pin Missile!” Jade yelled. It filled the air with tiny missile they pummeled into Tranquill, they were so plentiful he couldn’t avoid them. Tranquill hit the ground and trying to rise, “Needle Arm!” Jade called and in a back breaking move it hit Tranquill down. He had recalled Yeti and decided it was time to end this. He called out Flicker his Lampent.
“Inferno.” Was all he said. The field was engulfed in a ball of fire, three charred seeds feel next to Flicker. Leech seed Patrick thought. The fire died, Maractus was out. He recalled Flicker.
“Hey you still got us to deal with.” Amber said stepping up with Auburn. She called out her Galvantula and Auburn called out a Sawsbuck.
Rachael went to pull a ball when Patrick said to her “Call Audino.”
“But…” she started but was cut off.
“Just do it.” He said. Figuring he had a plan she did.
He called Slice. He appeared in a crouch position clearly injured. “Heal Pulse him first thing as soon as she says go.” he told her. “Then recall her and call whoever you want but keep that Sawsbuck busy.” She nodded understanding.
“Go!” Kris called.
“Heal Pulse on Slice.” Rachael called. The healing wave rolled over him and he rose to fighting position.
“Slice.”
“Sharp?”
“Teach.” He flew across the field, the Sawsbuck tried to stop his lightning fast move and was rewarded with a blade across the face. He stopped for a brief second in front of the spider before he unleashed Night Slash and Iron Head combined with Metal Claw on the tiny spider Pokémon. He looked over and saw Rachael had called Axew to deal with the Sawsbuck and he was doing fairly well, not much could hurt a dragon type.
“Dragon Claw.” Rachael called. Auburn still was too anxious and quick to call move correctly and one at a time, she called three different ones and Sawsbuck got confused and only succeeded in getting hit with Axew’s move.
“SHARP!” he heard and his head snapped back to his battle. Slice’s top blade was aglow and he let fall over Galvantula, in a body slam type fall. That looked like Guillotine Patrick thought. He glanced back at Patrick and gave him a thumbs up. She recalled her mangled Pokémon and tossed out one he had never seen before.
It looked like a large fox with nine flowing tails, he recognized it from the park. “You think you can take it?” Slice looked at him with an are you serious look.
“Ninetales.” It rang out in its purring feminine voice.
“It’s gorgeous.” he heard Rachael comment off to his right.
“Gorgeous or not, it’s going to lose.” He replied.
Her Axew was doing so good of a job on the battle challenge, Auburn’s Sawsbuck finally fell to the ground and submitted. She recalled him and sent out her Bouffalant. Slice’s eyes snapped on it as it appeared, he didn’t wait for orders he flew at it and rained blows upon his body.
“Ok attack Bouffalant.” Patrick said. “It’s fire, Panpour.”
“Right.” she said. Out he came. She was going to call him Spout but since she hadn’t had a chance to tell him she decided not to start yet.
“Brine attack.” Rachael said.
“Fire Blast.” Amber called. The moves collided and produced steam that covered the field. If Patrick had Shadow out he’d call him to strike Ninetales, if he could see in complete darkness then a little steam shouldn’t be a problem. The steam gradually began to thin, Patrick saw Slice standing over the Bouffalant that lay on the ground unmoving.
“Night Slash” he called. It completely blindsided Ninetales.
“Scald.” Rachael called. The burning water shot out of the puff on his tail holding like a fire hose and cascaded over Ninetales.
“Metal Claw.”
“Brine attack.”
They called in turns when one ended the other one started. Ninetales didn’t stand a chance it was down in a matter of minutes.
“Now are you girls done or do you want to continue to fight?”
“I have one more.” Jade said stepping up. She had grown in courage, she wouldn’t have volunteered when he first met them.
“Ok let’s get it over with.” Patrick told her.
“Let’s go Freddy.” She called out a Cacturne.
“Soldier.” He called his Aron.
“Go.” Kris called.
“Iron Head.” he slammed into Freddy sending his sliding back but still on his feet.
“Needle Arm.” It slammed into Solider but his armor shell wasn’t penetrated, the needles just bent on contact.
“Metal Claw.” It raked Freddy in the face causing him to recoil back holding his face.
“Absorb.” It sucked a little health from Aron but not enough to make a difference.
“Soldier.” He got no further as he evolved in a bright light to Lairon. “Iron Tail.” Its short stub of a tail glowed bright white as he swung his hind quarters in an arc connecting with Freddy’s midsection. He buckled at the waist wavered for a minute then collapsed. “There, happy now? I know I am.” he muttered the last part to himself but Rachael heard it too.
The Rainbow gang recalled their Pokémon and retreated except for Kris. “I’m sorry, they just didn’t listen to me.” She said.
“Maybe you need to get some better friends.” Patrick told her. “Just out of curiosity when did they get the time to go to the other regions and get those Pokémon and train them to such a high level?”
“Hahaha.” Kris laughed. “Those Pokémon weren’t theirs, they asked their brothers and sisters and I believe Throh was Scarlett’s dad’s. Its use to taking orders from her. He is extremely powerful they thought for sure he would take you down alone.”
“That would have been difficult.” Patrick said. Kris gave a questioning look. “Golem is immune to fighting type moves.” Patrick said.
“Oh.”
“And there isn’t too much that can take him either.” He said just in case she got the urge to try and fight him again. “Tell your friends not to bother me again, they will never win because as strong as they get I will always be stronger because I’m not stopping my training.”
“I’ll tell them but I doubt they will listen, every time you beat them you just make them madder.” Kris said.
“What changed your opinion of me?”
“You were nice to me in the forest I guess if you really were as mean as we thought, you wouldn’t have.” She responded.
“Well I’m glad you finally saw the truth.” He said. “If you ever need anything I’ll try to help you.”
“You already have.” she tossed out her new Pokémon. It was a Palpitoad. “I can beat that punk anytime now.” She said and headed off in the direction of her friends.
“Can we go home to get some sleep now?” he said totally drained. “I can’t even remember what we were going to do before we started that giant clusterfuck.”
“We were taking these home, and then going to clean it for the party tonight.” She said gesturing to the bags.
“Screw carrying them.” he called out Sawk and Shadow. “Grab a bag and let’s go.” He told them.
“Wish I had a Pokémon that could carry mine.”
“Golem, carry Rachael.” She was picked up and placed in the palm of his hand and happily rode there with the bag on her lap and legs swinging freely all the way back to their apartment. They hurriedly cleaned the apartment, there wasn’t much, they weren’t gone that long, and the party wasn’t for several hours but they wanted to relax and if they did that first nothing would get done. They got everything ready and crashed on the couch.
“Next Pokémon you catch make sure it does housework.” Rachael commented.
“I appreciated the help today, but I should have taken them alone.”
“Whys that?” Rachael asked getting slightly defensive.
“Your Pokémon aren’t fighters, you said so yourself. And a lot of them were the wrong type. I know you’re not a fighter and I’m not telling you to go out and catch fighters, but I could have handled them better alone, although I’m glad you had Audino to heal Slice for that second round, he needed to do that or he would only be mad now.”
“I just didn’t want to stand on the sidelines like the little cheerleader and be able to do nothing.”
They watched a movie to pass the time, the credits began when there was a knock on the door. “Who could that be? No one should be here for at least two hours or more.” Rachael said walking over to answer. Patrick went to the kitchen.
It was Penelope “Hi am I too early?”
“No not at all come in, we didn’t expect anyone yet but come in.”
“Didn’t Lisa tell you? I’m off today, I worked yesterday. I was at her place last night when you called. She had the morning shift.”
“No she didn’t mention it. I just assumed she’d tell you about it and you would come.” Rachael said.
Patrick arrived back in the main room with some drinks. “Hey Penelope. How are you doing?”
“Hi, I’m doing good.”
“Join us for a movie till the rest arrive?”
“Sure.”
He picked one at random but Rachael and Penelope started talking so he turned it down and joined them in the conversation.
The others arrived in short order, Lisa was first sense she had the shortest distance to go then Jess, Greg, and Alex, arrived. Greg had a cut on his face that ran from his forehead to his chin. Lisa saw him and was over in a flash “What happened to you?”
“Funny story.” Jess started.
“I got it.” Greg cut in.
Jess had relayed it to Alex on the way over and he didn’t sound too good in her retelling.
“I had a disagreement with one of the Skorupi. So he informed me of his displeasure, Krookodile informed him of mine. He threw him against a wall.”
“What was the problem?” Patrick asked.
“You know about it, I mentioned it several days ago.” Greg told him.
“They are still fighting?”
“Yeah, apparently that one wants to be the Alpha that bad. Of course now he won’t have a chance. With the Krookodile having beat him up so bad. Now…” He said.
“Wait, tell me about this.” Lisa said.
“I’m not poisoned, I’m fine.”
“POISONED?” his last comment drowned out by Lisa.
“Yeah Skorupi is a poison type, I had the doctor check me out, I’m fine. Now tell us about your crazy adventure, that might explain the Slice on your face.” Greg said choosing his words perfectly. They all got food and they began to tell of the hunt and how easy the first ones were to find.
They called out the new Pokémon, the Panpour the Pansage and told them of his Rufflet evolving, didn’t want to fill the room with a giant bird, and they had all seen Jess’s. Then he got to the ghost story part. He got half way into it when Jess, Alex and Penelope all said “I’ve heard it.”
“It’s told at Girl Scout camp outs all the time.” Penelope put in. “That’s where I heard it from.”
“So she told you a ghost story?” Jess asked.
“Not a ghost story, a true story.” Patrick said.
Really are you telling me you saw it?” Jess asked totally unconvinced.
“Yes, and caught it.” Patrick said.
“No way.” Jess continued. He recalled his Pansage as did Rachael with the Panpour.
“Well if you don’t believe me.” Jess was shaking her head. “Here.” Tossing it out. The large Pokémon took form in the room, it was a giant coiled snake measuring ten feet in length. It emanated a rasping hiss “SSSSEEERRRR.”
“There he is.” Patrick said.
A complete look of shock on Jess’s face. “Wow.”
“That’s a Serperior the evolved form of Snivy.” Greg said. After everyone had gotten over the shock of the ghost story being real and it sitting right in front of them, he continued on with the story. They called out the Pokémon as they came to their point in the story. Some they called out for Penelope’s benefit everyone had seen Greg’s Venipede except for Penelope and had no idea what one was despite being a nurse as she didn’t work the front desk a lot. Rachael had called her birds out one being evolved into Tranquill from the fight with the Rainbow Gang. Plus her Shiny Cottonee, all the girls oh’d and ah’d over it. He told them about the punk and the Pansear, and his challenge at the gym where he defeated the leader.
“Wow that’s awesome. Two down.” Greg said.
“Yep next stop, Icirrus City Gym.” the girls though he was joking but Rachael and Greg both could see that he wasn’t. They went through the whole course of events with the Rainbow Gang and showed the ones that evolved. As the story came to an end they all decided it was late and they’d better be going, most had to work the next day and didn’t want to over sleep. They picked up everything before they went to bed, and as they laid there Rachael asked him “Did you know that Penelope likes you?”
“She does?”
“She told me she did. It was before we got really serious. And if I hadn’t of taken that shift for her, you two might be together.”
“What?”
“That day you brought your Meinfoo in, she was supposed to be the one that was there, she called me and asked me to take her shift as she wasn’t feeling well. I don’t think she realizes it but she's the reason we are together and I can’t tell her, it will hurt her. She’s so lonely only because she's very shy.”
“She's very nice I’ve noticed that.”
“Well let’s get some sleep we have to work in the morning.”
<SEVERAL WEEKS LATER>
Rachael was on her way to work, it was early and not many people were out, but there was a lot of activity near the door to the Pokémon center. A large crowd had gathered, she then saw the antique stand hiker she and Patrick had run into inside the Mistralton Cave. He was setting up his stand and by the looks of it he had a large number of items to sell today. Huh Patrick’s birthday is coming up I should see if he has anything he could use she thought to herself as she walked by.
Lunchtime rolled around and she took the opportunity to check out the antique stand.
“Well hello little lady is there anything I can interest you in?” The hiker asked.
“I don’t know, I’m just looking right now, I’m not sure what he might need.”
“So it’s for someone else, do they have a Pokémon in need of one of these?” he asked holding up a handful of evolutionary stones. She scanned the baskets of stones. She saw Dusk stones, Shiny Stones, Dawn Stones, Moon Stones, plus one for every element.
“I’m not sure; do you happen to know what Pokémon need stones?” She asked.
“It’s my business to know.” He started to name off some of the more common ones she just shook her head. “And then there’s the monkey trio.”
“The monkey trio? Would one of those happen to be Panpour?”
“Yes it would, with the other two Pansage and Pansear.”
“He has both of those.” She said.
“Well then you would need this one.” he said handing her a leaf stone. It was a light green colored stone that could fit in the palm of her hand, it had a deep green leaf imbedded in it or just an image, she couldn’t tell.
“What about the fire stone?”
Ah sadly I’m out of those. Only had four this morning they went fast.”
“Do you have a water stone?”
“Just your luck little lady, I have one more.” It was a light blue rock of about the same size as the other, it also had an image she guessed of a water drop in a darker blue right in the center. She bought them both and headed back in to have lunch.
A few days passed until it was Patrick’s birthday. They had both got home from work and were going to his parent’s house for a nice dinner. She checked his pack while he was getting ready, she knew he wasn’t going to take all his Pokémon just his best, so she grabbed Pansage’s ball and pocketed it, she also had her Panpour with her.
“Are you about ready?” She called from the front.
“Yeah.” He replied walking out of the bedroom. “Can’t very well go smelling of Pokémon.”
“They should be here any minute to pick us up.” She said.
Sure enough they heard the distinctive honk of the car honk minutes later.
They arrived at his parent’s house and sat in the living room to wait for dinner. They asked him about his job and Rachael about hers. He mentioned they took a trip to Pinwheel Forest and told them the story of the giant Serperior and all the Pokémon he caught. “I didn’t bring any of them with me, I didn’t think I’d need them.” he told them.
“I have one.” Rachael said holding out Pansage’s ball.
“Why?” Patrick asked.
“Later.” Was all she said.
He called him out and told them all he knew about him, and all the moves he knew. “Rachael has one of the others, there are three, they are kind of set I guess you could call it. Do you have Spout with you?”
“Yes.” She said pulling his ball and calling him out. They looked over Panpour or Spout as Rachael had named him.
“This one could be useful around the greenhouses.” His father said as Patrick told them about him.
“Well it’s about time for dinner let’s move to the dining room.” his mother said at the sound of the timer ringing.
After dinner they brought a cake out and then his presents. His parents got him a huge box of DVDs.
“Wow this is awesome I can totally waste several days watching these. Thanks”
“I got you this.” Rachael said handing him a box that fit in his palm.
“What’s this?”
“Open and find out.” He slid the top off and saw the stone. “It’s an evolutionary stone one you can use on Pansage if you want.” She told him.
“I love it thank you.”
“I got one for Panpour too. He was out of fire stones.” she said.
He knew who she was talking about the guy they had met in the caves the antique stand hiker.
“So none of your coworkers could make it?”
“We didn’t invite them. Most of Rachael’s friends were working and it’s not a party without Lisa and Penelope so, Lisa said she would have a party at her place when everyone could make it, I think it’s the day after tomorrow?” he said glancing at Rachael. Rachael confirmed it with a nod.
His dad took them back to the city several hours later after they talked about everything they could think of.
The day of the party at Lisa’s Patrick just happen to be off so he decided to go to the park. Always a good idea he thought as he grabbed his Pokémon and headed out the door, but it was a nice day and he thought the Pokémon should get some time out of their balls.
He took his spot under the tree he always takes; it was in a fairly open area, lots of room to move around. He released the big ones first, he would recall them then let out the smaller ones, he didn’t want to have them all out at once. It would be mayhem, twenty six running around. After an hour he recalled Golem and Yeti plus several others that were fairly big. He then called out the ones he got from Pinwheel Forest; he hadn’t really had a chance to get acquainted with them since he caught them. They were the Archen, Pansear, Pansage, Tranquill, Serperior; he was already back in his ball, he was called out with the bigger ones. Plus Venipede and Sawk. He had called out Shadow and Slice as well they were his best friends even if they were a bit crazy. Slice was seated against the tree next to Patrick, and Shadow had ghosted up the tree and was perched on a branch overhead. He hadn’t used the stone he got from Rachael yet he wasn’t sure he wanted Pansage to evolve yet. As he was looking at Archen and Tranquill when he heard the guys walk up. It was pair of guys that looked to have just stepped off of bikes, both were slightly tall and thin, one had his hair spiked and was wearing shades and a leather jacket over his jeans, the other had his pulled back in a ponytail and also wearing shades and a leather jacket over jeans. Patrick decided to ignore them as he thought they weren’t there to see him.
“Hey kid.”
Damnit. He thought. He saw Slice glance over without looking like he did.
“Can I help you?” he said hoping it wasn’t what he thought it was.
“We heard you like to battle.” One said.
“Someone lied to you.” He replied.
“I don’t think so.” The other said.
“And who told you this?” he said standing up.
“You don’t need to know that.” the first one replied.
“I’m guessing it some girl with colorful hair.” He replied and seeing the first guys expression of shock he guessed he was right.
The guy quickly recovered. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“I think you do, and I suggest you learn the truth before you just assume she’s not lying. Now if you want to fight I’ll gladly defeat you but I see no point to that, it only wastes my time.”
At the offhand manner he said he would defeat them he got mad. “You think you can beat me? You have no idea who I am.”
“No, and I don’t give a shit either. Now go away, I’m trying to relax and you’re bothering me.” He said as he turned away.
“You little son of a---” he started but stopped short as the blade touched his neck. Slice had risen and in the blink of an eye he was pressing his blade into the punk’s throat.
“Sharp.” he said in a don’t even think about it kind of way.
“Does he need to explain further?” Patrick asked.
“No.” he replied softly afraid to move too much and cut himself.
“Go away.” Patrick repeated. “Slice yield.” He slowly lowered his blade never breaking eye contact with the punk. The branch overhead shook slightly despite no wind. The thugs looked up and saw nothing. They turned to leave.
“Zoroark.” he said flashing his claws. They couldn’t run fast enough to get away. Patrick smiled as he thought about the conversation those two would have later. He only wondered which Rainbow girl sent them.
Despite running the thug had some strong Pokémon, he was only frightened. I will go back later he thought as he leaned against a tree on the other side of the park. “He only surprised me.” he said to his partner in a defensive manner despite the fact that his partner had said nothing and ran the same as he did.
“We should go back and teach him a lesson.” He said finally finding the words to speak.
“Later, he would be expecting that. We will get him tomorrow.” the first punk responded.
He took a break and to meet Rachael for some lunch at the center. “You will never guess what happened before I got here.”
“Let me guess you encountered a rainbow?”
“Close. Looks like one of them told a brother or relative about me and I had to deal with them.”
“How do you know they represented the Rainbow girls?”
“Their reaction to my question about a colorful haired girl giving them the information about me liking to fight.”
“Well you do actually.”
“Yes but they don’t need to know that.” He laid out the rest of the story for her. I’m sure they will be back, just not today.”
After lunch he returned to the apartment and stayed there taking care of his Pokémon. He was having problems coming up with nicknames for them so he didn’t name them. He heard the key turn in the lock and in stepped Rachael. “You ready yet?” she asked.
“Almost.” he replied.
“Give me five minutes and I’ll be ready to go.” she said heading to the bedroom. He recalled all his Pokémon and pocketed his best, which consisted of Slice, Shadow, Golem, Mechanicum, and Serperior for its sheer power.
They arrived at Lisa’s place twenty minutes later as she lived not too far from Rachael’s place. They got there before everybody except Greg. Lisa’s place was close to Rachael’s in size and the layout wasn’t much different. Lisa pulled Rachael to the kitchen. “Let’s let the guys talk.” she said as she pulled her along.
“What is so important?”
“Did you ask Patrick to move in or did me ask you?”
“I ask him. Why?”
“I want Greg to move in but I didn’t want to scare him by moving too fast.”
“To tell you the truth I thought he was living here.” Rachael said.
He has stayed several times, but I just can’t get the courage to ask, and I…” she trailed off.
“So that’s the problem.” Greg said. He had laid out the same thing Lisa said to Rachael. He wanted to move in and take things further but he didn’t want to ask as he was shy, and she wouldn’t in fear of scaring him away.
“Greg, Rachael asked me so I can’t help you on this one, but if you really think about it she won’t say no. The way she looks at you, just ask, wait till we leave, do it now, but I guarantee she will say yes no matter when.” Patrick told him.
A look of relief passed over Greg’s face.
Back in the Kitchen
“If I ask and he does move in I wonder if he will ever have the courage to ask me to marry him?”
“He will, just be patient.” Rachael consoled. “I remember you asking me about this before.”
“It wasn’t right then I realized that, but now I think it is.”
They returned to the living room.
Lisa took her seat next to Greg. “I have to ask you something.” She said.
“Me too.” He said.
“Oh ok well go ahead.” she said glad to delay the fearful moment any longer.
“Lisa I’ve never been in a relationship before, you’re the first one that didn’t look at me like I was strange. We seem to be right, I was wondering if you would let me move in with you?” He could see her eyes filling with tears and wasn’t sure if he did the right thing. He threw a quick look of fear in Patrick’s direction. She suddenly threw her arms around him and cried softly on his shoulder.
“Greg?” Rachael said. “That’s a yes.”
He broke out in a relieved grin. “Oh thank God.” He whispered.
At that moment someone knocked on the door and Rachael answered it.
“Is this a bad time?” Jess asked seeing the crying girl on Greg’s shoulder. Alex behind her peeking around to see what was going on, Penelope was right behind her.
“No, no come on in.” Rachael said gesturing them in. “Tears of joy.” She explained.
After Lisa finally composed herself Greg asked her “Now what did you have to tell me?”
“Move in or I’m leaving you.” She said as they all laughed knowing she was kidding. “No I was going to ask you to move in. I think it’s time.”
Penelope walked over to Patrick and gave him a happy birthday hug and kiss.
They all sat around talking and joking while they ate, everyone had brought something, except Rachael and Patrick as the party was for him. “I was approached by the Rainbow gang’s enforcer today.” he casually tossed out. They all stopped and looked at him. “What?” he said as if he said nothing strange.
“WELL?” Jess asked.
“Well what?” he replied.
“What happened?” Alex asked.
So he explained the exchange they had, and he could barely contain his laughter at the point that Shadow had appeared behind them. “I’m sure to meet them again, I’m not sure which one sent them but I’m sure it was one of them.” he concluded.
“It’s time for presents.” Rachael said.
“Y’all didn’t have to get me anything.” he said.
“I didn’t? Well damn, wish someone would have told me!” Jess quipped with a smile. “Me first.” she added as she reached over Greg and handed Patrick a small wrapped presents. He ripped it open, it was a case with an intricate design on the top. He clicked it open it was a gym badge case. “I know you didn’t have one and if you plan to keep beating down Gym leaders you are going to need it.” Jess said.
“Thanks Jess I appreciate it.”
Greg handed him a bigger box. “I really didn’t know what you needed and I saw this and thought it was cool.” Patrick pulled the top off, it wasn’t wrapped. He pulled out a new hat it was an Indiana Jones style and a pair of gloves, the fingers were cut off and the wrist part went halfway up his forearm, it had clips for poké balls on in. “They are trainer gloves, you don’t need a belt with this. Plus it holds more than a belt does.”
He tried them on and they fit perfect. “Wow thanks Greg, these are cool.”
Penelope handed him a small box wrapped very pretty with delicate twine tying it all together. “I hope you like it.” He carefully unwrapped it and opened it. It was a dull purple stone.
“An evolutionary stone right?” he asked.
Her face broke into giant grin of pleasure. “Yes. I know you need it. It’s a dusk stone, for your Lampent.”
“Thank you Penelope I do need it.” he said briefly remembering what Rachael said about Penelope and wondering what now would be like if it was her he was with. Lisa stepped up and handed him a small box and then proceeded to sit on Greg’s lap surprising him quite a bit. It was quickly wrapped he noticed as he ripped it open. It was a fire stone he noticed immediately. He needed one of those too, but not right away. “Thank Lisa this will be quite handy.”
“Your little fire monkey can use it.” she said with a smile.
She could make anything sound dirty he thought.
“Did everyone think of stones?” Rachael asked.
Alex handed him a flat box that look like it carried a shirt. He opened and pulled out a bandolier. “Wow.” he said somewhat stunned.
“You hate it don’t you?” Alex said crestfallen.
“No not at all.” He noted all the clips on the front, ten sets of four.
“It’s for your poké balls.” She said.
“I love it Alex, thank you.”
A relieved look passed over her face as she smiled. “A bit of gag gift really.” She said. The gloves held ten apiece and the bandolier held forty. “Guess I have some work to do to fill them all up. I’ll have to quit work.” He said with a smile. Lisa brought out a cake and they all started talking again till late in the night.
He got up the next morning and headed for work. After he changed into his park ranger outfit he slipped on the gloves and bandolier plus the new hat, it was like his ranger hat except not red and not beat all to hell. He also put on his shades and sat with his feet up waiting for Jess Greg and most importantly Alex.
Alex came in the building and headed for the changing room, she opened the door and let out a shriek, then realized the sitting figure was Patrick. “You scared me.” She said. She then noted he was wearing the bandolier with about half the spots filled, She also saw the gloves and the six he had on them as well. He just smiled and waved. Greg walked in shortly after.
“What the hell?” he said upon see Patrick.
“Something wrong? Everyone seems so shocked this morning.”
“Could be the hardcore trainer people usually avoid sitting in the room.” Greg pointed out.
Jess walked in with a wave to them. “Hey Greg, Patrick.” she got halfway to the girls changing room when she registered what she had seen stopped dead and turned around. “Oh my god.” Was all she said. Greg and Patrick just exchanged looks like she was crazy.
“What?” Patrick asked. She just shook her head and proceeded to the girls changing room.
The door to the Pokémon center slid open Lisa glanced up and dropped her book. The strangest character she had ever seen walked in. She then realized who it was and started laughing so hard she was banging her fist on the desk. Rachael hurried out followed by Penelope. Penelope suppressed her giggles Rachael just looked at him “Really? Stop laughing.” she said lightly slapping Lisa on her arm. He pulled off his shades. “You’re scaring people Rambo.” Rachael said motioning to the trainers waiting in the waiting area.
“Good, maybe I can get some peace in the park.”
“Or become a target for stronger trainers.”
“I wanted Penelope to see Lampent evolve sense she gave me the stone.”
He pulled the ball off the bandolier and opened it, he then pulled out the stone and held it up to Lampent. He started to glow; he grew an extra foot and sprouted four extra arms tipped with fire and his other arms curled upwards at his sides.
He stopped glowing and cried. “Chandelure.” Being a shiny his flames were orange instead of purple and eyes were also orange instead of yellow.
“Wow.” Penelope said. “He’s so beautiful.”
“It’s all thanks to you Penelope. Thank you again.” He said as she smiled shyly. “Rachael you got time to grab a bite?”
“Sure I can, let’s go.”
They ate at the sub place across the street. “So what’s with the Rambo getup?”
“You don’t like it?”
“It looks like a little much. Especially your bandolier.”
“I will only wear it when we go out Pokémon hunting. I only wore it today for Alex, to show her I don’t hate it. I think its kind of cool, easy access to my Pokémon.”
“I see Slice and Shadow are on the glove.” He had marking on his poké balls so he could easily locate them when circumstances warrant. She had come to recognize these markings at a glance.
“Along with my others strong ones, Golem, Serperior, Mechanicum, and Meinfoo.”
“It looks like you are looking for a fight.”
“When have I ever had to look? They just seem to fall in my lap, which is not a good thing. Maybe if they think I look like I know what I’m doing some will steer clear.”
“Good point, but you could still attract some people who are looking for that kind of fight.”
They finished up lunch and he headed back to the park to finish up his shift.
“Did Rambo go back to work?” Lisa asked as Rachael returned.
Rachael looked at her with that certain look. “Yes.”
“I think he looked hot.” Lisa put in with a smile as Rachael went through the door, but heard the comment.
He arrived home dressed normal, save for the gloves, which had his Pokémon attached.
“I see you’ve changed.” Rachael said glancing up from the couch.
“I told you I wasn’t going to wear it all the time.” He repeated.
“What are we doing for dinner?” Rachael asked as if he said nothing.
“Pizza.” He replied.
Scarlett was sitting in the café with her friends when the two guys entered. They approached her table. It was Alex, Scarlett’s older brother and his traveling partner Dave.
“Did you take care of him?” Scarlett asked.
“Yeah about that.” he started.
“It’s been two days Alex!” She huffed.
“You had dad’s Throh and you couldn’t beat him, what makes you think I could? And it’s Axel.” He preferred to go by Axel, he thought it sounded tougher than Alex.
“Correction, I did beat him he just got me with his others.” She stated. “You go back and don’t come back until he is beaten.”
As he walked out he regretted telling all those stories about defeating trainers, because although they were true he sought out weaker trainers and then made the battles sound harder than they were, and a few he took as his own after seeing the fight between others.
“Are we going to go back?” his buddy asked him.
“We kind of have too.”
“What if you lose?”
“I’ll just tell her I won.” He concluded. He had to at least see this kids Pokémon, if he beat all of them then they must be something.
“Was that really necessary?” Kris asked.
“Yes he attacked you and Raven when you were both alone.” Scarlett said.
“No, you didn’t listen that’s not what I said.” Kris started. “You just jumped to conclusions and made up your own story.”
“Even if he didn’t attack you, he still attacked Raven, and that’s not…” Amber put in.
“Shut up!” Kris shouted. “He didn’t attack Raven either, did he?” she directed the last part to Raven who looked away guiltily. “I’m leaving.” She finished as she got up and stormed out.
The battle had to wait until Patrick had a day off although he was unaware it was coming. Two weeks passed, every other day Scarlett had asked have you beat him yet, and his answer was no every time. “Well why not?” she demanded.
“He hasn’t been to the park since that first time I saw him.” he responded.
“Well you better find him I’m tired of asking.” She said.
“Then shut up.” he said walking away.
“What?” she called after him. He just hurried away faster.
Axel went to the park to see if he would be there that day. He had out all his Pokémon and was wondering if he should use them all, if he did it would be a long battle, from all she said about him he had a few strong ones. Axel used mostly fighting types with the exception of Nidoking, Nidoqueen, and Druddigon. “I think my team can take him what do you think?”
“I have no idea what he’s got.” Dave responded.
“The answer is yes idiot.” Axel told him.
“Yes idiot.” Dave responded. Axel just looked at him, and then glanced around catching sight of his target.
It was fairly cold the day Patrick had off, but he needed to let his Pokémon out, he hated to leave them in their balls all the time. So he dressed warm grabbed the bandolier and gloves and headed to the park.
He arrived and took his seat under the tree and let out a few at a time except for Slice and Shadow they were always free. Sometimes they didn’t even go in their poké balls. He had out Vanillish called Snowcone, Cryogonal called Cryo, and Beartic called Yeti. It was cold enough for them to enjoy it. He wasn’t expecting anything to happen today, most people stayed in during cold weather, he was surprised when he saw who was coming.
“Well look who it is Dave.” Patrick didn’t bother to rise he continued to lounge against the tree, and wondered if he ignored them would they leave. No was the answer. “Hey I’m talking to you.” Axel said snapping his fingers to get his attention. The annoyance was obvious in Patrick’s eyes when he snapped his gaze on him.
“What is it; can’t you see I’m relaxing?” He asked.
“I’m looking to fight, and I have it on good authority you like to fight.”
“You might not remember this you look simple, but we had this conversation before and I know who sent you and why, so get lost, that shouldn’t be too hard for you.”
“Alright so I’ll drop the pretext, I want to fight you so get up and fight.”
Seeing no way out of this he rose. It was then that Axel got a good look at his appearance. He saw the bandolier partially hidden underneath his coat and the gloves, and from what he could tell about half the ones on the bandolier where filled as were several on the gloves. “My friends don’t like you.” Patrick said. Axel glanced around and noticed the Pokémon he had out had encircled them. “How many?”
“I doesn’t matter how many you use, I’ve never lost and I’m not about to start now.”
“Ok, twenty six.” Patrick replied.
It was then that he realized his mistake, he gave him an advantage. “No I don’t have that many so you can’t use that many.”
“You said it didn’t matter so I’m using them all, it was your failure to state a number and leave to decision up to me. Double battle or single?”
“Single.” He said quickly not giving him a chance to decide, he was use to controlling the process, but Patrick’s ability to take control so easily was throwing him off.
Dave was surprised by the speed at which Axel lost control of the fight, he was usually much better, but this guy’s certainty and uncaring manner seemed to throw him off.
Axel reached into his pack and pulled out his strongest ones. Machamp, Poliwrath, Golduck, and Primeape. He figured he’d start with these and if things got bad he’d pull out the rest of his fighters. Patrick recalled all his before the fight began.
He sent in Golduck first, Patrick sent in Slice his Bisharp. This was exactly what Axel wanted.
“Ready?” Dave called who had taken roll as the judge.
“Ready.” they both replied.
“Hydro Pump Golduck.”
“Iron Defense” the water broke around him pushing him back slightly. He remained relatively unharmed. Axel was in shock this was usually his morale breaker. He’d blast his opponent with it and he would be almost defeated. He realized he would have to think up a new fighting style on the fly and hope it worked.
“Is that all you got?” Patrick asked. And he’s taunting me Axel thought, complete role reversal he realized. “Slice Teach.” Slice’s eyes flashed with delight as he leaped to Golduck and started to pummel him. Golduck was being relentlessly beaten with Metal Claw and Iron Head attacks in such quick succession that he had no chance to recover or fight back. “SLASH!” He called, Slice used his wrist blade and as he slashed he also delivered an uppercut to Golduck’s beak finally sending him flying. “Should we just stop now or do you want the beating to continue?”
“Shut up!”
Patrick just shrugged “Ok.”
Axel called out Poliwrath.
“Slice return.” Slice glanced at Patrick. “Return now.” He reluctantly returned.
“Serperior.”
The giant green snake appeared “SSSSSEEEERRR!” it hissed.
“Ready?” Dave was ready to help Axel in the judging but utter defeat was kind of hard to swing his way.
“Ready.” The both replied.
“Dynamic Punch!” Axel yelled.
“Leaf Storm.” Patrick said. In the flurry of leaves Poliwrath was unable to see and his attack flew wide.
The leaves finally settled, Poliwrath was sliced and injured all over and looked to be barely standing.
“Body Slam!” Axel yelled.
Serperior was unable to dodge the hit and was knocked down by the force of it, he rose again.
“Giga Drain.” Serperior wavered back and forth sucking the life from Poliwrath, when he was done Poliwrath was out cold. “Guess he couldn’t handle it.” Patrick said.
Axel hadn’t expected this, he was told he used dark, and he was mainly a fighter user. He was supposed to be an easy mark, now he was going to be beaten. His Nidos where ground, weak to grass, he still had his fighters. He called out Machamp.
Patrick recalled Serperior and sent in Braviary. Damn it. Axel thought. This wasn’t playing out how it should.
He didn’t last long, a few Air Slash and Fly attacks, and he was down. An idea struck Axel, it was perfect and he would never know. He called out both his Nidos, and stood there falsely deciding which one he would use, he already knew he just had to make a show of it.
“Don’t have all day, lets get a move on.” Patrick called to him.
“Fine Nidoqueen.” he fainted certainty.
“Seismitoad.” Patrick called out. That should nullify her ground attacks and he’s water. Patrick concluded.
“Ready?” Dave called.
Both nodded.
“GO!”
“Body Slam Queen!” Axel called.
“Hydro Pump.” Patrick said.
Axel’s eyes grew wide as the blast hit Queen holding against her attack in midair. Right as the Hydro Pump died Toad merely stepped aside to avoid the body slam. Queen hit the ground. She rose slow and being so close to Toad Axel called a double kick. It took toad by surprise as it connected sending him falling back.
“Drain Punch.” Patrick said.
Just what Axel was waiting for, an actual physical attack. “King, just what we trained for.” Axel muttered to Nidoking. He’d send a slight trimmer through the ground, thinking would cause Toad to stumble, it failed, as Drain Punch connect to Queen’s jaw sending her flying back.
Toad quickly retreated to his side of the battle area.
“Toad, Siemitoad.” He said to Patrick moving his legs in a shaking fashion.
“Really?” Patrick said glancing at Axel’s side. He was standing directly in front of his Nidoking which he wasn’t using, so why was he out? Patrick wondered. “Again” he told Toad.
“Didn’t work, do it harder.” Axel muttered to King. It failed again, and again Drain Punch connected to Queen knocking her down. Patrick this time had watched King closely and saw the movement Axel attempted the hide he also felt the trimmer this time as well.
“Serperior.” he called out. “Wrap the Nidoking.” He quickly pulled three more balls from his glove. Calling out Yeti, Snowcone, and Slice.
“Hey what’s the deal?” Axel cried outrage fainting ignorance.
“You’re cheating and don’t play dumb, I know that might be hard for you.” Patrick said not able to keep from putting in that jab.
“Ow yeah how?” he asked figuring Patrick was just guessing.
“You’re Nidoking was shaking the ground trying to throw off Toads move, he’s ground type too by the way that’s why it didn’t work. I saw him do it and I felt it too.”
“Bullshit.”
“I was beating you too bad so you tried to cheat to win, that’s kind of sad really. Now go tell the girls you lost and I won’t have Slice teach your Pokémon anything.”
He threw out his remaining Pokémon. Primeape, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Druddigon.
“Ice Beam Snowcone.” He said without hesitation. He caught both Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan full force freezing them solid and it also caught Primeape’s foot pinning him down.
Druddigon was rushing him. Before he could reach him a giant icicle crashed into him sending him sprawling. Patrick saw Nidoqueen was standing again.
“Slice teach Nidoqueen.” Slice was there in a flash tearing into her with blades galore.
Axel recalled his Pokémon and ran away. Patrick recalled his except for Slice and called out Shadow. “Now let’s see where he goes.” Patrick said as he chased after him.
He returned to the Scarlett and her group of friends. Kris was with them again. “Did you beat him?” Scarlett asked.
“Yeah sure no problem went down easy, almost had him begging,” he said laying it on a little thick.
“You better not be lying to me, if you are I’ll…” she looked out the window. Axel followed her gaze. She saw Patrick standing there with Slice on one side and Shadow on the other. Just staring at her with a slight smile.
“Liar!” she said. turning back to Axel and swinging a hard left knocked him out cold.
The fight had run long, well into lunch, so he grabbed a sub and swung by the Pokémon center. He walked in a saw as usual Lisa manning the front desk book in hand, with a rather bored look on her face. It immediately brightened when she saw Patrick enter. “Hello Rambo.” She said using the nickname they had given him.
“Hi Lisa, Rachael here?”
“She’s in the back.”
“Mind if I go back?” He asked.
She waved her hand for him to pass.
“Where were you?” was the first thing she said.
“Sorry had to deal with an idiot that didn’t know how to take no for an answer.”
“I assume you mean the guy that you met last time you went to the park? Maybe you should stop going.” She added the last part as an afterthought.
“Yeah the same, tried to cheat to, he wasn’t very good at it.”
“It’s just as well then, I ate lunch without you, I waited ten minutes and you didn’t show.”
“I just hope I’m done with those girls, every time they lose, and every time it’s my fault.”
“Well it kind of is your fault.” Rachael added.
“You know what I mean, they blame me for whatever and then fight me and lose.”
“I’m going to go home, sorry I missed lunch.” He said giving her a kiss.
“Don’t worry you can make it up to me tonight.” She said with a wink. He walked out giving Lisa a wave and good bye.
Rachael came in the door carrying some pizza boxes. “Dinners here.” She said.
As they were eating Patrick said, “Greg said he had some big news but he didn’t want to say anything till we were all there, Jess was off yesterday. And he said to make sure we had no plans for tomorrow night. We are going out with him and Lisa.”
“She didn’t mention it.” she said.
“Yeah I don’t think she knows yet. Be sure to invite Penelope.”
“So what does that sound like to you?”
“Oh my god.” She said in complete shock.
Rachael walked in the next morning. “Hey Lisa.”
“Hey Rach.” She replied.
Rachael noticed she didn’t mention dinner; it must be a surprise Greg was planning for her.
“Hey Penelope. Dinner tonight at…he didn’t say, just stay close when we get off.”
“Ok.” Penelope said a little confused.
“And don’t say anything to Lisa I think it’s a surprise.”
“You got it.”
Greg and Patrick were sitting at the break table waiting for the girls to appear. Finally Jess and Alex come out of their changing room. “Ok so what is this big news?” Jess asked.
He pulled out a small box and flipped it open holding it up them; a gold ring with a good size diamond was inside.
Since Alex was right in front of him it looked like he was proposing to her.
“I will.” she cried “but I don’t think Lisa will understand.”
They all laughed. “At least I have a backup if she says no.” Greg said knowing full well that Alex liked him. “Tonight at the center when we go pick her up. Less people, less pressure.”
“She won’t say no there is no way, she loves you man.” Patrick reassured him.
They all walked in the center just when Lisa Rachael and Penelope were getting ready to leave. “Oh damn.” Lisa said.
“What is it” Penelope called.
“I see like four trainers coming, so much for leaving.” Then she recognized Patrick and Greg. “Oh wait it’s just the guys and Jess and Alex.”
Rachael and Penelope joined her in the front. They all greeted one another. “I was hoping we could all have dinner tonight.” Greg said. They all agreed.
“What’s the occasions?” Lisa asked.
“Nothing, just dinner with friends.”
“Oh ok.” Lisa replied.
He pulled his hand out of his pocket and dropped his poké ball. “Opps let me get that.” he said.
“So clumsy.” Lisa joked. Everyone smiled, Rachael and Penelope’s eyes wide in surprise. Lisa was completely oblivious as she had her back to them, and the ball had rolled behind her.
“What’s taking you?” she asked turning around.
He was holding the box up to her.
“Why are you…” her voice died as she saw the ring.
“Will you marry me Lisa?” Greg asked looking her dead in the eyes, something he rarely did.
She was speechless for several minutes just looking at him. Finally she said “Yes” and started crying bending down to hug him.
Alex leaned over to Jess and said “Guess he won’t need his backup.” Patrick heard her even though she whispered. Jess just patted her on the shoulder and gave her a comforting one armed hug.
“Someday.” she said thinking about herself as well.
They all headed to the restaurant to enjoy a nice meal with the new couple.
